    …says new crime prevention strategies underway 

    Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has warned criminals to change their ways or pack out of the state.

    Jimoh gave the warning at his maiden briefing after assuming office as the 41st CP on Tuesday afternoon.

    According to him, Lagos would be too hot for criminals and trouble makers under his watch as the police in collaboration with sister agencies would work assiduously to ensure that law abiding Lagosians and their properties were secured.

    The police chief said there would be new crime prevention and control strategies in the state, adding that specialised units like the marine police, tactical squads would be empowered for more effective service delivery.

    CP Jimoh said the marine police would be equipped and deployed to patrol Lagos creeks and riverines in order to wade off criminals who take advantage of such areas to enter the state and commit crimes.

    He said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has acquired gunboats and other gadgets to adequately equip the marine police, adding that the unit was a major part of the IG’s strategic policing.

    He said: “New and varied Crime Prevention, Control and Management Strategies will be adopted and implemented to nip in the bud all forms of crimes, most especially violent crimes and promptly detect those crimes that may occur. 

    “The command will be more proactive in crime fighting and prevention to detect, act and deal according to the laws, with early warning signals of crimes and other threats that can snowball into disturbances of public peace and safety, or breakdown of law and order appropriately.

    “The strategies, tactics, methods and techniques being implemented by the command to fight crimes such as traffic robbery, robbery, cultism in all 

    ramifications, curbing of violent crimes around identified black spots and other 

    notorious crime scenes will be reinvigorated and improved upon to achieve results and get the criminals off the streets of Lagos. 

    “The full weight of the law will be applied to criminals in the state. They are hereby strongly warned and advised to repent, abandon the crimes or leave Lagos State. The state will be too hot henceforth for the men of the underworld and it will be a no-go area for criminals and their cohorts.”

    CP Jimoh commended officers and men of the command for their dedication to duty that have culminated in reducing violent crimes, urging them to do more in their respective areas of responsibility.

    He stressed the need for the respect of human rights, warning that any violation of the rights of the people, no matter how small, would be met with sanctions.

    “It is pertinent to acknowledge that my predecessor and the senior officers have thoroughly briefed me on the crime situation and all other issues of concern in Lagos State. They have done their best under the leadership of my predecessor 

    to ensure peace, security and protection of all Lagosians in the state. 

    “Their achievements will definitely be improved upon and strengthened to further reduce all forms of crimes and criminalities throughout the length and breadth of Lagos state to the barest level. 

    “Though crimes and criminalities in the state is not alarming and is 

    surmountable, the Police under my leadership will redouble our efforts and work assiduously with the Government and good people of the state to further 

    reduce the fear of crime, the commission of crimes and all forms of criminalities to minimum level to enable the law abiding people of the state and corporate entities both local, and multinationals to go about their daily businesses peacefully. 

    “The police under my command will work very hard to ensure protection of the huge investments of all investors (Government Investments, and Local and Foreign Investments in the state),” he said.

    CP Jimoh thanked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving as Lagos Police Commissioner, assuring that policing with international best practices, a key vision of the IGP would be strictly.

    “As lead internal security agency in the state, the Lagos Police Command has crucial roles in combating crimes and criminal activities so as to make the state safer for all the people.

    “To achieve these objectives, the command will work closely with Government of the State, prominent and eminent personalities, critical stakeholders, investors, public-spirited individuals, the traditional rulers, religious leaders, and all other stakeholders and groups that are committed to partnering with the police to ensure security and safety.

    “The Lagos State Police under my leadership will prioritize effective synergy, partnership and cooperation with sister security and safety agencies and services in the state. This is to sustain, further improve and strengthen the already established cordial relationship between the police and other security and safety agencies in the state. 

    “I, therefore, respectfully wish to assure these critical security stakeholders of the commitments of the command in this regard. It’s imperative to emphasize that under my leadership, the command will foster more closer collaboration with key security agencies complementing the police to implement unified strategies to tackling crime in Lagos State,” said CP Jimoh.

    BREAKING: PSC appoints Moshood as Lagos CP

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Olohundare Moshood Jimoh as the Commissioner of Police (CP) at Lagos State Command.

    The appointment was announced by the spokesman for the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement on Monday afternoon.

    Until his appointment, CP Jimoh was in charge of the Port Authority, Eastern Ports Command, Rivers State.

    His appointment followed a Monday morning interview by the Chairman and Commissioners of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd, retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Adamu Paul Galmuje, and DIG Taiwo Lakanu rtd.

    CP Jimoh appeared before the Commission today. Present were the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd mni,

    A former Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Jimoh, a native of Kwara State will bring to bare his wealth of experience in police operations, administration, and strategic communications.

    His previous appointments included Deputy Commissioner, Airport Command; Deputy Commissioner, Finance and Administration and Deputy Commissioner General Investigations.

    He has undergone several professional trainings including Combat Operations Course, Mobile Training College Maiduguri; African  Union Mission in Darfur Sudan;  Weapons of Mass Destruction  Counter Measure, First Responder Training Institute, United  States;  Social Construction and Management Training,  Reform  China Executive Leadership  Academy Pudong China; Maritime Rescue and Salvage for Developing Countries training at the China Maritime Academy, Ningbo, as well as Anti- hijacking techniques and tactics for developing countries, Yunnan Police College,  Kunmung, China. He was also at the Police Training Institute, Seoul South Korea.

    CP Jimoh is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Public Relations Personality of the Year in recognition of his sterling qualities and outstanding contribution to the development and use of Public Relations by the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations.
