    For two days, the bustling tech hub popularly known computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos took a new feel to celebrate the Yuletide. The occasion was the annual Computer Village Carnival which held on December 18 and 19, 2018 and had music star and ‘yahooeze’ crooner, Olu Maintain and other entertainers in attendance.

    Sponsored by Africa’s smartphone giant, Tecno, the carnival featured parades and performances.

    The icing on the cake was the appearance of Olu Maintain who performed many of his hit songs. The presence of the TECNO mascot T-boy also thrilled the crowd as they had the opportunity to take selfies with him while dancing to electrifying songs by the DJ.

    The fun and excitement continued into the night, with various gifts won by participants.

    OLUMIDE Edwards Adegbolu who goes by the stage name Olu Maintain, recently released a new single titled Cinderella. The single is meant to relaunch the Yahooze crooner into the Nigerian music scene after a long absence.

    The single features 2face, and is a fusion of highlife and pop music. Music critics agree that performance of 2face and Olu is a must watch/listen and has the makings of a chart topper.

    The former member of the group Maintain which ruled the airways in the 90s before going solo went down in history of entertainment as the singer who shot the most expensive video in Nigerian history when he shot Enough Efizzi. It cost millions of naira to shoot as it had a Jacuzzi set up inside a private jet.

    The new single it is hoped will launch the ‘Yahooze’ crooner back to mainstream music especially with 2face being featured on the single.

    Cinderella takes one down memory lane by sampling great classic Nigerian Music. With ‘Eddie Quansa’ by the Peacock’s Guitar Band, the sound track of the 90s popular sitcom, The New Masquerade, interposed with lyrics from legendary Nigerian Highlife Maestro, Sir Victor Uwaifo’s classic, Mami Water.

    Olu Maintain, Def Jam signs deal

    As part of efforts to further popularise and make his brand of music more accessible to his fans across the globe, Nigerian pop star Olu Maintain has signed a worldwide distribution deal with Dej Jam.

    Dej Jam, an American label predominantly into hip hop and urban music, is owned by Universal Music Group and operates as part of The Island Def Jam Music Group.

    Olu Maintain, who noted that the new arrangement would help him and other Nigerian acts to break new grounds, said: “I have a distribution deal with Def Jam Records since digital distribution is an inevitable way to distribute our music to different parts of the world. This is because CDs in hard copy don’t move numbers any more. My latest album, Chosen One, as well as my new video, Enough Efizzy, will be released on iTunes. This will be the first time my material will be available on any marketing digital portal online for easy accessibility by fans, who crave my music.”

    Other Nigerian stars like P-Square and D’Banj also have a worldwide distribution deal with Universal Music Group and Dej Jam.

    FRIDAY, November 22, it was a charged ambience at Ikeja, heart of the nation’s former capital as younger sister to the popular Olu Maintain, Adegbulu Opeyemi, who goes by the stage name Oprah Alade, thrilled fans all night.

    Oprah was the cynosure of all eyes at the prestigious Eagles Park Hotel, Ikeja where she entertained guests with her live band. The last child of the Adegbulu family, Oprah Alade took guests on a delightful adventure of great musical fun and back to the days ‘when men were boys and women were girls’, with her melodic rendition, performing an eclectic fusion of Juju, Hi-life, Afro, Hip-hop and more.

    Chief Marketing Officer of the Hotel 1960 Group, Ochola Jocelyn, explained that the hotel wants to add variety to Friday night life.

    Oprah Alade, who spoke after the show, said that she was coming with her own kind of songs, which is different from that of her elder brother. “I love Hi-life and Juju music and always derive pleasure from performing them. I have been in the music industry for the past three years, with an album Happy Faaji, released in August this year.”

    Apart from Oprah Alade’s performance, comedians also spiced up the show. Notable among them was Kelly Blind who kept people laughing till the end of the show. Guests were elated as they commended and showered encomiums on the organisers of the show.
