    Court remands Man for impersonation

    An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 53-year-old man, Tajudeen Bamigbola, in Illesa Prison for allegedly impersonating to secure freedom of an Oba on trial.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Awodele, ordered the remand of the convict after he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of impersonation and false testimony.

    Awodele described the offences as grievous and directed that the convict should remain behind bars until Sept. 25 for sentencing.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Joshua Oladoye, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 5 at about 10:00 a.m. at the premises of Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court 2.

    Oladoye alleged that the accused falsely presented himself as one Bamigbola Azeez, already deceased, to secure the freedom of one Oba Akadiri Okanola and four others facing trial in a land dispute.

    He said the accused intentionally committed the offences by giving false testimony to secure the freedom of Oba Akadiri Okanola from being sent to prison.

    He said the offences contravened Sections 117 and 484 of Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

    Counsel to the accused, Mr Abimbola Ige , prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the convict.

    An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of four men in Ilesa Prison over alleged armed robbery.

    Sales representative docked over theft of rice

    A  35-year-old woman, Bukola Omotayo, was on Wednesday arraigned in  an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged theft of 15 bags of rice.

    Omotayo is facing a charge of  stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Insp  Taiwo Adegoke, told the court that the accused committed the offence in July at Ayoola street,  Osogbo.

    Adegoke told the court  that the accused stole 15 bags of rice which the complainant, Muyiwa Agarah, kept in her care as sales representative.

    “The accused was a former  sales representative working for the complainant, but she failed to remit the money for the 15 bags of rice which she sold,’’ he said.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Awodele, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Awodele said the sureties must reside within the court’s  jurisdiction and show  evidence of tax payment.

    He also ordered the two sureties to submit two passports photographs each to be  attached to an affidavit of means.

    The case was adjourned till  Sept. 6 for hearing.

    Man docked for unlawful possession of 22 goats

    A 28-year-old man, Musibau Okunola, was on Friday arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged unlawful possession of 22 goats.

    The prosecutor, ASP Mireti Wilson, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 28, 2016 at about 3:50.a.m within Osogbo metropolis in Osun.

    Wilson said the accused was arrested while conveying the 22 goat in a bus with registration number KJA 178 XE, and was unable to give satisfactory explanation of the ownership of the animals.

    He said the offence contravened sections 517 and 430(1) of the criminal code cap 34 vol.11 laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, Mr Ato Atobatele, prayed the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Awodele, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Awodele said the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction, show evidence of tax payment, attach affidavit of means and provide two passport size photographs.

    The case was adjourned to Nov. 13, for hearing.

    Driver arraigned for knocking down motorcyclist

    A 30-year-old driver, Busari Akeem, who allegedly drove his car recklessly and knocked down a motorcyclist, on Monday appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    Akeem, who is facing a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving and manslaughter, was released on N100, 000 bail.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Oladoye Joshua told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 8 at 10.00 a.m. at Kabelo Filling Station area in Osogbo.

    Joshua alleged that the accused drove a Toyota Corolla car with registration no. AAA 815 EM recklessly and killed a motorcyclist,  Ibrahim Abdullahi.

    “The deceased was riding an unregistered Honda motorcycle when he was knocked down by Akeem.”

    The offences contravened Sections 18(1), 27, and 7(1) of the Road Transport Act, Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr Sunday Atofarati, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

    In her ruling, Magistrate Olubukola Awodele granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    She said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also produce evidence of tax payment to the government.

    The case was adjourned until Aug. 25 for mention.
