    Ifelodun LCDA distributes palliatives to 2,000 residents

    No fewer than 2,000 residents of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have benefited from food palliatives and financial aid ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

    The initiative, championed by Council Chairman, Olufemi Okeowo, is part of ongoing efforts to alleviate poverty in the area.

    Speaking during the distribution, Okeowo said the gesture was in line with the council’s commitment to supporting the vulnerable, noting that similar interventions have been sustained for over a year.

    “This edition is special because of the approaching Eid celebration. We expanded the number of supplies to accommodate more beneficiaries,” he said.

    He added that beyond food items, the council has consistently provided monthly stipends to unemployed youths, the elderly, and other indigent residents.

    “We have run this programme for more than 13 months and intend to sustain it beyond the 2027 election, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

    Okeowo reiterated his administration’s focus on infrastructure development and grassroots empowerment.

    “We are committed to meeting the growing needs of our people by building facilities and supporting them with available resources,” he said.

    The chairman also urged residents to participate actively in the forthcoming local government elections, saying their voices matter in shaping decisions at the grassroots.

    One of the beneficiaries, Habbeeb Awolere, described the exercise as well-organised and impactful.

    “The process ensures the support reaches those who truly need it,” he said.

    Another beneficiary praised the consistency of the programme, describing it as a lifeline for many.

    “Our chairman is doing well. They’ve never failed to distribute every month. It gives us hope,” he said.

    Council canvasses consistent clean environment

    The Chairman of  Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Olufemi Okeowo, has called for regular and proper clean environment among residents.

    He spoke at the Sensitization and Public Enlightenment program which was graced by dignitaries to sensitize the residents on cleaner surroundings as the rainy season approaches.

    According to Okeowo, it is the responsibility of all in achieving a cleaner and safer environment for healthy life. He added that good health is similar to wealth.

    The council boss talked on some of the palliatives and projects that the residents benefitted.

    He stated that 500 youths, 500 adults, 200 families are receiving N10,000 social intervention every month from the council.

    He added that N12 million were distributed to students, free drugs were given out to 200 residents with special ailments monthly and N50,000 were given to 100 petty traders every month.

    He also stated some projects done by him include roads and market expansion.

    The Head of Waste Management and Environmental Services Sanitarian, Ezekiel Obideyi urged the residents to dispose their waste properly at the designated place where the collectors could easily access them.

    He said that as the government is doing its best, it is left to us to ensure that our surroundings is clean at all time and proper personal hygiene is maintained.

    The Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Japheth Olugbogi, advised the people to patronise Primarily Health Centres (PHCs) near their houses.

    “Ifelodun LCDA is blessed with medical personnel; they are engaged to take care of your health needs, kindly patronize our PHCs. Whenever you fall sick, come for proper examination. Checkup is at no cost,” he stressed.

    The Council Manager, Azeez Abiodun advised the community members to take their personal health seriously because when one is healthy, one is wealthy.
