The Executive Director, National Film and Video Censors Board (NVCB), Mr. Adedayo Thomas has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of late veteran actor, Olumide Bakare and football the football fans who died at a public viewing centre in Calabar, Cross River state as a result of electrocution.
Mr. Thomas also commiserated with the people and government of Cross River state, urging them to bear the irreparable loss of the seven football fans with fortitude, and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured 11 persons currently receiving treatment at the University of CalabarTeaching Hospital.
“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace,” said Thomas In a statement signed by his Special Assistant, Mr. Pelumi Oludayo.
The NFVCB chief, who earlier this month assumed office as the head of the NFVCB, regulators of the film and video sector, as well as exhibition facilities such as cinemas, theatres and viewing centres however disclosed that plans are being firmed up to standardise viewing centres across the country.
He said the exercise will include a baseline mapping for a much needed data base, and expose viewing centre operators to new opportunities that will lead to facility upgrades and improved safety for the benefit of all viewing centre clients across Nigeria.

Actors Guild mourns Nollywood veteran, Olumide Bakare
Mr Agility Onwura, the Chairman, Abuja chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), on Sunday, expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Olumide Bakare.
Bakare passed on in the early hours of Saturday at 65 due to respiratory disorder.
Onwura, while reacting to the sad news, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Bakare’s demise was a big loss to the entertainment industry and Nollywood in particular.
He said “we received the news of his death with sadness.
“He died when the wealth of his experience and contribution was most needed in the industry.
“However, nobody can question God since death is a debt everyone will have to pay some day.”
The AGN boss added that solace should be drawn from the fact that the late artiste lived a fulfilled life as a professional and role model to many.
He, therefore, prayed that God would grant the family of the late icon the fortitude to bear the loss, while urging them to draw inspirations from his life.
Born on Nov. 26,1953, Bakare was a veteran actor who was well known for the major role he played in Nollywood, especially the yoruba movie industry in Nigeria.
He was known as Chief Koko by many of his fans, a name that emanated from the role he played as ‘troublesome landlord’ in the TV Series, ‘Koko Close’.
During his time as an active actor, he took part in so many block-buster movies and soaps, notable among them was the popular “Papa Ajasco and Company” by Wale Adenuga.

The story has changed from January 2014, when veteran actor, Olumide Bakare, did not require help from the public to foot his medical bills. In fact, then the actor denied that he had anything serious other than the normal age-related ailments that required constant medical check-ups.
Today, the lively and frank-speaking thespian has confirmed his illness, begging not to be allowed to die just yet.
His worsening medical situation has prompted him to call on public-spirited Nigerians to come to his aid, as he lies on his sick bed, at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan since last week.
Reports say, aside suffering low blood flow into the heart, there are also indications of a lung-related disease. The actor is said to have spent over a million naira so far, and still require about N30, 000 daily for treatment, including dialysis.
Speculations were rife in 2014 when the actor travelled to the United States, where he was received by his son, Olabode, who is a pastor in Pennsylvania. Incidentally, the actor was also booked for a movie shoot in the U.S., putting to rest insinuations he went for medication.
At that time, Bakare was quoted to have expressed appreciation to his fans and well-wishers, but maintained that he does not require financial assistance from anybody to foot his medical bills.
This, the ailing actor noted, was not about being indispensable, but to caution his fans not to get swindled by unscrupulous individuals who might want to cash in on the situation.
Today, the man genuinely asks for prayers and financial supports.

Don’t contribute money for me, says ailing actor, Olumide Bakare
There are strong indications that veteran actor, Olumide Bakare, who is down with a heart ailment, is presently in the United States of America for further treatment and healthcare, E24-7 Magazine revealed yesterday.
Efforts to get him on the phone in the last three days proved abortive.
Report says the actor arrived the US Wednesday, and was received by his son in Pennsylvania.
Bakare was quoted to have expressed appreciation to his fans and well-wishers, but maintained that he does not require financial assistance from anybody to foot his medical bills.
This, the ailing actor noted, is not about being indispensable, but to caution his fans not to get swindled by unscrupulous individuals who might want to cash in on his present situation to cheat unsuspecting members of the public.
