    ‘I’ll enlighten, empower women’

    Chairman of Badagry Local Government in Lagos  State, Olusegun Onilude, has assured women his administration will ensure they are enlightened and empowered.

    He spoke at the Sixth Badagry Women Symposium, organised by Department of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) of the council: ‘Women Beyond Borders: Unleashing Potential, Transforming Lives’.

    Onilude said: ‘’My administration will continue to provide system and resources for women to be empowered to lead.

    ”My administration, in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, will pull resources together to see that our women are not only enlightened, but also empowered.

    “We have made provision for resources that will empower many women.”

    Wife of Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, said the event was an opportunity for them to revise the strategies for enhancing women’s socio-economic empowerment.

    She said the choice of the theme ‘’will serve as the starting block for the new approach in 2025 to ignite the potential of women.’’

    Padonu-Hassan, the supervisor, said through the symposium, ‘’one will get insight into how to reach the world from wherever.’’

    She said since its inception, the selected themes and guest speakers had been carefully chosen to provide women with the opportunity to learn, unlearn, dine and wine.

    Vocational centre graduates 1,000 students

    Chairman of Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, Olusegun Onilude, has said over 1,000 students of Badagry Vocational Training and Skill Acquisition programme have graduated.

    He spoke at the 20th graduation and matriculation of more than 300 students of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Vocational Training Centre in Badagry, organised by Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) department of the council.

    The chairman said his administration ensured graduation and matriculation took place in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

    Council Supervisor of WAPA, Risikat Padonu-Hassan, said the centre offered training in eight departments – Computer Studies, Catering & Event Management, Fashion Design, Barbing, Hairdressing, Makeup & Gele, Bag Making and Craft .

    Vice Principal and Instructor in Computer Department, Mercy Iroegbu, urged them to see their graduation as a stepping stone.

    Seseyon Bello, a graduating student from Catering Department, advised youths to face their career, to achieve greatness.
