  • I won’t drop stomach infrastructure, says Olusola

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola, has promised to sustain the stomach infrastructure policy of his boss, Governor Ayo Fayose.

The deputy governor who unfolded he manifesto, the ‘SHIELD Agenda,’ at the weekend, said the manifesto will build on the achievements of Fayose.

Olusola promised to make tremendous impact in the areas of security, social welfare and sustainable human capital development, healthcare delivery, infrastructure and industrial development, education, all-inclusive leadership and governance as well as development of agriculture and tourism.

The  PDP flag bearer promised to partner with private investors to industrialize the state by providing enabling environment for private sector to partner the state.

On security, Olusola said his administration would make Ekiti safe for residents to be able to attract investors,  while also improving the social welfare for vulnerable groups and unemployment youths through effective empowerment and job creation.

He promised to upgrade the state comprehensive health centres across the 177 wards to cottage hospitals , to be able to deal with incidences of child and maternal mortality and render  robust healthcare services to the masses.

Olusola said: “What we intend to do is to draft the consultants in Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital to these cottage hospitals to offer consultancy services once or twice a week. Our people must be healthy mto be able to enjoy the dividends of democracy.”

Olusola said his government shall devote resources and commitments to the construction of inter and intra city roads,  particularly those in the remote towns , while also improving on the urban renewal in Ado Ekiti and local government headquarters initiated by Fayose’s government.

“There is need for Ekiti to attract industries to this state, because most of our youths are not gainfully employed. The State alone can’t employ them and  any economy that will achieve this must work with the private sector”.

He said the state will establish recreation centres in some selected local governments to serve as places of leisure that can develop local economy and prevent rural-urban drift. Olusola said his government will promote technical education by developing the three Technical Colleges across the State starting with the one in the capital city.

“I will start by introducing ICT in all our schools, so that all the teachers can comply with the new trend   in education. I believe teachers can stay in the office and communicate with students, this is very essential.

“During my time, the Technical Schools will not be vocational centres alone, it will be entrepreneurial and skills centres. We are also going to make technical education academic by upgrading the College of Education in Ikere Ekiti to a University of Education since the College has a better technical department that needs only upgrading.

  • Olusola alleges destruction of billboards by ‘APC thugs’

The campaign organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola, has condemned the wanton destruction of its billboards by those it described as All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs.

The Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation (KOCO) said in a statement issued yesterday that billboards and posters in Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government, Ikole-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti/Ado Ekiti road and other towns were destroyed.

But the statement which was signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Lere Olayinka, added that “destroying billboards won’t save the APC from defeat”.

The statement reads: “Today, Ekiti State witnessed a return of crude and animalistic display of political intolerance, as thugs on the campaign train of the APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, went about destroying campaign billboards and posters of the PDP.

“The thugs that openly wielded guns, matchets and other dangerous weapons, were directed and controlled by Fayemi himself to destroy our billboards, as they move from one town to the other.

“It should be noted that there had been no political violence in Ekiti State until Fayemi declared his ambition to run for the governorship.

“Even his party members have not been spared in his usual display political thuggery. The whole world saw what happened at the APC primary election.

“With what was witnessed today, it should be clear to Ekiti people and the entire world that Fayemi is back with his army of destroyers and killers.

“However, we wish to state that destroying campaign billboards and posters will not stop Fayemi and his APC from suffering worse electoral defeat than they suffered in 2014.

“Ekiti people are resolute and on July 14, they will speak with one voice against Fayemi and his agents of political and economic tyranny that plunged the state into debt and put jobs of thousands of government workers, especially teachers on the line.

“Like the locusts that were shown the way out of Ekiti in 2014, they will be dislodged finally on July 14, no matter the level at which they display violence.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the July 14 governorship election, Prof Kolapo Olusola, has promised to make education affordable for every child, if elected governor in the July 14 election.

Olusola added that Ekiti will become once again the academic hub of the country, where every child will see education as the best legacy he must embrace for a rewarding future.

He said the administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose has made the state the best in National Examinations Council (NECO) in 2016 and 2017 respectively, pledging that his government will build on this achievement and make it part of the state policy to retain the position.

The PDP flag bearer appealed to governments, corporate bodies and philanthropists to spend less on programmes like Big Brother Nigeria (BBN) at the expense of education, describing this as a misplaced priority that would take the country nowhere.

The deputy governor made the remarks in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, yesterday during the grand finale of the annual Spelling Bee competition.

The programme was co-sponsored by the Deputy Governor, in partnership with Ekiti indigenes resident in Canada under the aegis of Ekiti Kete Canada, as well as corporate bodies like Indomie.

In the Senior Secondary School category, Miss Mercy Fasoro of the Shepherd International School, Ado Ekiti emerged overall best and received a cash prize of N250,000.

At the Junior Secondary School level, Tumise Dada of Ekiti State Government College, Efon-Alaaye came first with a cash price of N200,000.

For the primary cadre, Emmanuel Balogun of VINPET standard School, Ado Ekiti came first and he received a cash reward of N150, 000.

Olusola, who commended the recipients for exhibiting academic brilliance, said such academic prowess will help the country in the future, if the awardees are given the right impetus.

He said: “When a youth or a child does well in academics, he must be well rewarded, but it has to do with exertion of mental ability. But when they are not properly rewarded, this may not help our nation.

  • I won’t derail from Fayose’s populism, says Olusola

Ekiti State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the July 14 governorship election Prof Kolapo Olusola has promised not to deviate from the populist approach of Governor Ayo Fayose.

Olusola said he would build on the relationship between his principal and the people of the state by ensuring that their moods are adequately gauged before siting any project.

The PDP flag bearer made the remarks while commissioning two blocks of market stalls and four boreholes donated to Ifaki Ekiti by the Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Modupe Alade.

He lauded Alade for the projects, saying these were done in line with the grassroots approach being adopted by Fayose in project execution.

He said: “There is no way you can pass through Governor Fayose that you won’t value development. Mrs Alade did these for his people, based on request and that accounted for the popularity of our leader and his government.

“I want you to support our government in the coming election so that these good projects can continue. Let me assure you today, I will never derail or renege on the populist approach laid down by Fayose if you vote for us in the coming election”, he said.

The SSG said she was motivated by the good work of Governor Fayose to give back to her community by embarking on the projects that will be beneficial to her people.

She said: “The market buildings were requested by my people when the market stalls in this market became inadequate. The boreholes were also drilled to meet the water need of the people.

“Early last year, I empowered 900 youths in Ido Osi local government with some funds so as to make them self-reliant.

“I have also been giving social security and empowerment to aged people in the two wards in Ifaki Ekiti since my appointment three and half years ago, who have been receiving financial benefit from me on monthly basis.

“Ifaki community is grateful to Governor Fayose for my appointment and that of the Chairman of Ido/Osi local government, Hon Tunde Aladegbami.”

  • My priority is people’s welfare, says Olusola

THE Ekiti State governorship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Kolapo Olusola, has assured the people that their welfare would be his first priority, if he wins the July 14 election.

Olusola, who is also the incumbent Deputy Governor, said God sent him on a divine mission to Ekiti State to cater for the welfare and interests of the people.

He spoke in his office yesterday, while addressing representatives of teachers, local government staff, staff of government parastatals and civil servants resident in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The meeting was conveyed at the instance of the Osoko Mass Movement, led by, Hon. Wale Ayeni.

Speaking on salary arrears being owed Ekiti workers, Olusola said he worked as a lecturer for 24 years and knows the importance of salary payment and therefore does not require any lecture on the topic.

The PDP flag bearer assured workers that outstanding salaries will be cleared immediately funds are available.

He said: “For over two months, we have been cleared to get the remaining 50 per cent of Paris Club refund that the Federal Government refused to release to states for political reasons you and I know.

“It is true we’re owing, but trust me we will pay; ours is not a government that will pay half salaries as it is done in Imo and Osun under the APC. The Paris Club refund belongs to Ekiti State. If they like let them release it before or after our election, it’s your money and you will get it; trust me.”

Olusola also called on Ekiti people not to fall for the antics of fraudsters moving around the state, asking for electorates’ Voter Identification Number (VIN) and fingerprint in the name of fake, non-existent empowerment programme.

His words: “Some fraudsters are in town, asking for the VIN and fingerprint of voters; they said they are here to empower our people — empowerment they did not do last year. I call on you not to fill any fraudulent form.

“Tell them to empower you without collecting your voter’s card. Any promise of empowerment that makes the submission of your voter’s card number a criteria to benefit is an attempt to defraud you; don’t fall for it.”

The PDP flag bearer also used the medium to intimate Ekiti people about his plan for industrial and agricultural revolution of Ekiti State.

He said: “Fayose gave me direct access to information at Abuja. I am already talking to people on Independent Power Generation for without power, we can’t develop.

We will have a massive industrial park in Ekiti that will be powered by this Independent Power Projects.

“I will turn Ekiti around in terms of industrialisation. I want to build on existing structures, put in place by Governor Ayodele Fayose to catapult Ekiti into another realm.

  • Ekiti lawmakers back Olusola at highway sitting

Members of Ekiti State House of Assembly yesterday held a special sitting on a major highway in Ado-Ekiti, the capital, to back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.

The lawmakers, who held their plenary at the foot of the Ado-Ekiti Flyover inaugurated by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan last Saturday, warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Ekiti is “a no-go area for rigging”.

During the sitting, which started at 12.13 pm, the lawmakers resolved to work for Olusola’s victory to ensure realisation of the continuity agenda of Ayodele Fayose’s administration.

Led by Speaker Kola Oluwawole, the lawmakers pledged to resist any attempt by the Federal Government and its agencies “to scuttle the wishes of the people through their votes at the July 14 governorship election”.

In the lead debate by House Leader of Business, Mr. Olatunji Akinyele, the legislators affirmed their loyalty to the governor for using his mandate for the benefit of Ekiti residents.

Akinyele hailed Fayose for “changing the face of Ekiti” with people-oriented projects, including the dualisation of roads in Ado-Ekiti and other major towns.

The lawmaker noted that this culminated in the inauguration of the flyover last Saturday by Jonathan.

He added: “We support Prof Olusola for the governorship of Ekiti State and we urge the people to vote for the continuity of Fayose’s legacies.

“We also warn that the Federal Government should steer clear of the governorship election because rigging will not be allowed in Ekiti State.”

The lawmaker representing Ijero Constituency, Mr. Dayo Akinleye, said Ekiti residents would not be intimidated by federal might at the election.

He said: “The federal might cannot intimidate us because the PDP is on ground in Ekiti. We call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the real votes of the people and the police should not allow themselves to be used for dirty jobs.”

The lawmaker representing Oye Constituency I, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, claimed the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was not popular at home.

Omotoso said: “Fayemi is from my constituency; he is not popular at all. For several elections, Fayemi has only been able to win his one ward of six wards in previous elections.

“I have not seen how such a candidate can be helped. This is a message to INEC and the Federal Government that Fayemi is like a patient the doctor would say has poor prognosis.

“The coming election is like that for APC: they cannot win and can never win. We are united in continuity under Fayose and we have confidence in Eleka, who is a professor of Building Technology, unlike a doctorate degree holder in War Studies, who would only destroy.”

Speaker Oluwawole said: “This plenary is special in the sense that the government of the day has performed well. We were elated and we have decided to come to the open to commend the performance of Fayose.

“I want to correct an impression. We have only one member on suspension; the other six who are not here have obtained permission.

“This is to correct an impression that some people are boasting that 10 of us are defecting. That is a fallacy. Fayemi is a serial loser who has never won any election. The last one was through judicial abracadabra.  He will lose on July 14.

“I say this for the record. We are a united house and we remain dogged. We cannot be intimidated nor harassed or kidnapped. We are commitment to Fayose who has demonstrated that he is committed to the service of humanity in Ekiti…”

  • Olusola under attack for alleged lies against Fayemi

The JKF Centre, a leadership training and development outfit in Ado-Ekiti, has accused the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, of lying against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi “to score cheap political points”.

The centre slammed Olusola for alleging on an interview on Channels Television that Fayemi owed three months arrears of workers’ salaries at the time he left office in October 2014.

In a statement signed by its Director, Mr. Biodun Omoleye, the centre also took exception to Olusola’s demand that Fayemi must make restitution over alleged misconduct while in office between 2010 and 2014.

Olusola made the demand in a statement issued by his campaign outfit, Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation (KOCO) on Monday.

Omoleye said the people of Ekiti are shocked that Olusola, whom he described as a pastor in Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) could resort to lies when he knew that Fayemi only owed workers one month at the time he left office.

He said Fayemi could not pay September salary of 2014 because Olusola’s boss, Governor Ayo Fayose, blocked the pre-arranged bank facility to pay workers by issuing threats to the bank to stop the facility.

Omoleye urged the authorities of CAC to sanction Olusola for allegedly telling lies “recklessly and shamelessly”.

He said Olusola resorted to deceiving unsuspecting members of the public and the global television audience because the administration in which he is serving “has made lying its official state policy”.

Omoleye said: “This shameless accusation and lies from the supposed man of God, a Pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) is not a surprise, considering the character that nurtured him as a politician.

“We can understand the moral pedigree of a supposed man of God in an administration battling with accusations of serial murders, salary padding, contract scams, over-invoicing over which several permanent secretaries that refused to cooperate had been sacked.

“We can only pity a man of God dining with a rogue administration that secretly took N56b loans to pay salary and for development projects but criminally diverted all to cronies’ companies for personal benefit, but still shamelessly insisted that it didn’t borrow one kobo.”

Omoleye, said it is an insult and affront on the good people of Ekiti State for Olusola, who is the number two in a “cloudy and fraudulent administration” that has left the state in ruins and state’s work-force devastated over 10 months unpaid salaries, including N56b debts overhang, to accuse Fayemi of misconduct in government for which he must make restitution.

He added: “The CAC ought to punish Eleka (Olusola) for his brazen and shameless lie on an international television station that Fayemi owed three months salary when the fact available to all Nigerians is that Fayemi owed only September salary because Fayose blocked the pre-arranged bank facility to pay workers by issuing threats to the bank to stop the facility.

“When federal allocation for September (2014) was paid to Fayose in October (2014), he refused to spend it to pay September salary as was the case in salary payment protocol in force at the time.

“Instead of hiding his face in shame for debasing his religious practice by associating with crooks in government, he abandoned issue-based campaign for hooliganism in his baseless accusation to score cheap points in his continuity agenda that holds no promise for Ekiti development.”

  • Olusola, Fayemi: A clash of scholars

Two scholars-Prof. Kolapo Olusola and Dr. Kayode Fayemi- are the major governorship candidates for the July 14 election in Ekiti State. Who succeeds Governor Ayodele Fayose between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearers? Group Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU examines the preparations for the poll.

The die is cast between Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka, Ekiti State deputy governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, and Dr. John Kayode Folorunso Fayemi, out-going Minister of Mines and Steel Development and the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A clash of intellectuals is imminent in the Fountain of Knowledge. The two candidates parade intimidating credentials. Both scholars have a date with history on July 14. Who succeeds out-going Governor Ayodele Fayose?

It is a two-horse contest. Although smaller opposition parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP), are also fielding candidates, they do not seem to have that capacity to match their PDP and APC counterparts.

According to observers, Ekiti is warming up for a historic poll. Olusola, a professor of Building at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife is flying on the wings of his populist boss, who defeated Fayemi four years ago. The poll will be his first baptism of fire. Many believe that a transformed and more combative Fayemi is on a revenge electoral mission, having claimed that he was robbed in 2014 by the  coalition of Fayose, former Minister of State for Defence Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and former Police Affairs Minister Jelili Adesiyan, who used soldiers and police to scatter his foot soldiers.

However, the poll is not only about Fayemi, but also about the Southwest progressive bloc’s yearning for the return of Ekiti into its fold, and for the purpose of commencing the envisaged second phase of the rescue mission. More importantly, the July 14 election will determine how far the APC can go in next year’s general elections in the rustic and far-flung state.

For Fayose, it is a make or mar election. His future may as well be determined by the succession battle. If his succession plan succeeds, he may become more relevant in the state and in his party. But, if it fails, he may face a perilous political future. Since the contest is also principally between Fayose, a street-wise politician, and Fayemi, a war scholar, it will be tough. To Fayemi’s supporters, it is another war of liberation.

In four years, there is a reverse of positions of strengths and weaknesses. While the “federal might” was deployed in Fayose’s aid in the previous election under the Jonathan administration, the advantage is gone. It may now be the turn of the APC, which was oppressed and suppressed during the disputed poll, to leverage on its status as a chapter of a ruling party at the centre endowed with the indomitable weapons. But, since the poll is likely to be free and fair under President Muhammadu Buhari, the fate of the principal contenders will be decided by the people in an atmosphere of electoral sanity.

The strength of Olusola, a native of Ikere, lies in the perceived formidable machinery of the governor, who against all odds, regained power in 2014, eight years after he was impeached in error by the House of Assembly. However, during the campaigns, Ekiti will beam the searchlight on his worth and fitness for the exalted position.

This year’s governorship debate will be hot. Two dons endowed with adequate verbal facilities will be in the ring. Olusola will justify the continuity of the PDP administration beyond this year by reeling out what he believes to be the achievements of Fayose in the last four years. Fayemi will fire salvos at the PDP and expose the hollow in the score card of the governor. The former governor will delve into history, emerging with the evidence of effective and prudent management of resources when he was in charge. Ekiti elite will be divided between two egg heads in hot competition for the seat of government.

Also, there will be a clash of strategy. Following the footsteps of Olusola, who has selected Deji Ogunsakin from Ado-Ekiti as his running mate, Fayemi, who hails from Isan-Ekiti, in Ekiti North Senatorial District, is also likely to pick his running mate from the state capital. The choice of running mates from Ado may continually fuel the perception that Ado and Ikere are the major deciders of governorship victory, to the consternation of other big towns like Ikole, Efon, Ijero, Ilawe, Otun and Omuo.

But, how healthy and formidable are the two main parties? The PDP primary has generated bitterness, although only Olusola, who polled 1,191, and former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, contested. The prince of Ise, who got 771 votes, has discredited the supposedly free and fair contest, saying that delegates were induced. He said he was on his way out. Fayose has dismissed his vituperation as the ranting of an ant. He said the PDP will win without the former PDP caretaker publicity secretary. PDP national leaders are still trying to reconcile the aggrieved with the governor.

Generally, it is believed that the PDP may not suffer extreme polarisation, owing to few aspirants who fought for the ticket. The APC had 32 aspirants who tested their popularity within the party. But, to prevent further division, Fayemi, who was not carried away by his victory, instantly begun reconciliation. He offered an olive branch by visiting co-aspirants, including former Governor Segun Oni, who came second, in Ifaki-Ekiti, Senator Gbenga Aluko, Femi Bamisile in Ado, and Wole Oluyede in Ikere. His media aide, Yinka Oyebode, said he will meet other aspirants between today and tomorrow.

Unlike the aggrieved PDP aspirant, some APC contestants demonstrated maturity by congratulating Fayemi. “We all won,” said Bamisile, former Speaker of the House of Assembly, who called for unity and cohesion. “We haven’t got to the finish line. We have a great assignment ahead, so that we can secure victory against the PDP and other contending parties,” he added.

Also, in the spirit of reconciliation, an aspirant, Muyiwa Olumilua, said: “From this point, we no longer have any aspirant; we now have a candidate. All parallel structures must be dismantled and fused into one single force. We must all stand firmly behind our chosen candidate.”

Lauding the shadow poll, Oni congratulated the Al-Makura Committee and the winner, Fayemi. He said he will not quit the party, stressing that he is a loyal party man.

Fayemi was magnanimous in victory. He cautioned against post-primary partisan abuse, urging his supporters to avoid being rude to his rivals at the intra-party poll.  The lesson of the primary is that delegates rejected the push for zoning in Ekitiland, which is one zone. Since the primary was approached like war by all aspirants, Fayemi called for cessation of hostilities.  It is acknowledgement of the fact that he would need more than delegates’ votes to bounce back to power. “I plead that we put our differences aside and work together as one strong and indivisible party for success in the upcoming election,” he said.

In Fayemi’s view, the APC can displace the PDP, if the there is unity and harmony among the gladiators.

The next critical step for the APC candidate is the setting up of a campaign structure for the election. A chieftain said: “The campaign organisation must reflect the spread of aspirants, districts and party leadership. We must go for the election as one family. Fayemi should not permit vendetta. No exclusion. To win the governorship election, all the critical stakeholders must work for victory.”

Last week, Fayemi congratulated his opponent, Olusola, for emerging in an orderly and peaceful primary. But, he told him that whoever becomes the APC candidate will be the preferred choice of the electorate. Yesterday, he beat his chest, saying he would be more acceptable to Ekiti than the PDP flag bearer.

However, Fayose has challenged Fayemi to a duel, saying that he will lose his deposit at the poll, reminiscent of 2014. “I thank the APC for giving Ekiti people a candidate they love to vote against all times. Fayemi should not celebrate this pyrrhic victory yet because it is nothing but a flame that will be quenched on July 14. He should expect to suffer worse defeat compared to that of 2014,”he said.

Fayose’s bravado, according to analysts, is premised on the gains of the PDP as the dominant party in Ekiti. All members of the State Executive Council and functionaries across the 16 local governments are his loyalists. All the members of the House of Assembly, except a defector, are PDP chieftains. Party members are also on the state boards and parastatals.

To the PDP chairman, Gboyega Oguntuase, 9 lawyer, APC cannot withstand the PDP structures, especially at the grassroots, where he said, Fayose is popular with the people. Other party chieftains are basking in the euphoria of the power of incumbency, despite its limitation. The APC family has disputed the PDP’s strength while making reference to the confession of Dr. Tope Aluko, who said the 2014 was rigged. In his victory speech, Fayemi also punctured the notion of token populism premised on stomach infrastructure. “We have seen a cynical approach to politics that exploits the penury of the poor and the vulnerability of the marginalised. We have seen the entrenchment of the disdain for elders, traditional institutions, and all forms of constituted authorities.

“Instead of continuing the quest for freedom from ignorance, disease and want, what we have seen is a paradigm that deepens captivity to these ills. In short, the last four years have called into question all that we stand for as a people; the timeless values of honour, dignity, nobility and civility encapsulated in the omoluabi ethos have been eroded,” he said.

Observers predict a clash of incumbency powers as the PDP and the APC do battle on the slippery field of politics. A right activist and potential election observer said that Ekiti may be enveloped in anxiety and tension during the poll.

Born in Ibadan on February 9,1965, Fayemi, a pro-democracy activist, was the Director of the Centre for Democracy and Development, a research and training institution dedicated to the study and promotion of democratic development, peace building and human security in Africa. He is a product of Christ School, Ado-Ekiti and Federal School of Arts and Science, Ondo. He attended the University of Lagos where he studied History and Politics, OAU where he obtained a Masters degree in International Relations and Kings College, University of London, England where he obtained a doctorate in War Studies.

Fayemi has worked as a lecturer, journalist with the Guardian and City Tempo, researcher and strategy development adviser in Nigeria and United Kingdom. He taught at the Police College, Sokoto during his national youth service. He was responsible for the founding and management of the opposition Radio Freedom, Radio Democracy International and Radio Kudirat. He also served as an adviser on transitional justice, regional integration, constitutionalism, security sector reforms and civil-military relations to the Governments of Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Uganda Rwanda and Ghana. He was the main technical adviser to Nigeria’s Human Rights Violations Investigation Commission (Oputa Panel), technical expert to ECOWAS on small arms and light weapons and to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa on governance issues.

Fayemi is a visiting scholar in Political Science Department, University of Ibadan and Fellow of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Ibadan. He was an Adjunct Professor of Security Studies at the African Centre for Strategic Studies, National Defense University, USA, and a Scholar-In-Residence in African Studies Programme at Northwestern University, Evanston, USA in 2004. He has many academic papers and well researched books to his credit.

Olusola, a priest, is a professor of Building Technology at OAU.

Forty nine years old Olusola is the son of Pa Ojo, the Eleka of Ikere-Ekiti. He attended St. Mathew’s Primary School and Annunciation School, Ikere before proceeding to the OAU to study Building. He holds a Master’s degree in Construction Technology from the University of Lagos and a doctorate degree in Building Technology from OAU. He started his career as a Graduate Assistant in 1990. He became an Associate Professor in 2009. Few months ago, he became a professor.

In 2014, he became the deputy governor. He has been described as a stabilizing factor in the Fayose administration. His special interest is the education sector. As the supervisor of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ekiti received the award of the ‘Best First Timer Performance’ nthrophy during the international debate in Singapore. It also won the ‘Best Performance in Junior Engineers, Technologists and Scientists (JETS) in Interstate Quiz Competition last year and overall best student performance in the 2016  Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN)-organised science written and quiz competitions.

  • Fayemi congratulates Olusola

…denies walking out of S/West leaders’ meeting

All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof Olusola Eleka, for his emergence as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s flag bearer for the July 14, governorship election in the state.

Prof Olusola on Tuesday emerged winner of the PDP governorship primary held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Dr Fayemi, Minister of Mines and Steel Development and a former governor of the state, said the emergence of Prof Olusola in an orderly and peaceful primary, is a welcome development.

He however said the APC would give the PDP flag bearer a good fight for the Oke Ayoba Government House come July 14th, adding, however, that the APC still remains the preferred choice for the generality of Ekiti people.

The Minister, according to a statement by his Media Office, said he is confident that whoever emerges as APC flag bearer in the party’s rescheduled primary on Friday, would be more acceptable to the Ekiti electorate.

Meanwhile, Fayemi, has denied media reports that he stormed out of a meeting of the party’s South West leaders with Ekiti State
governorship aspirants in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Minister said contrary to misleading media reports and social
media posts purporting that he walked out of the meeting, he only left the venue, like other attendees, at the end of the meeting.

The Minister in the statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said there was no basis for him to storm out of the meeting which was called by the leaders to proffer way forward for the party, in the face of the rescheduled Ekiti governorship primary.

The Minister, however said he could not make the second part of the meeting when it reconvened later in the evening, having earlier taken permission from the leaders to attend another meeting.

“It is thus worrisome and highly embarrassing reading reports of purported ‘walk out’ on our leaders when nothing like that actually took place.

“We implore well-meaning members of the society and members of our great party to disregard the misleading reports, “the statement added.

  • Don’t sell Ekiti to fraudsters, Olusola urges voters

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prof. Kolapo Olusola has warned the electorate to vote wisely during the election.

He warned against voting for those he described as “fraudsters.”
