    Omawumi thrills at World Food Prize ceremony

    Nigerian singer, Omawumi, thrilled guests at the recently held World Food Prize Foundation ceremony, held in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.

    The event, which was in partnership with President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, set to establish the World Food Prize Africa Institute, featured the songstress who held everyone spellbound with ‘Africa’, and ‘Butterflies’, from her ‘Timeless’ album, earning a standing ovation at the end of the performance.

    According to the anchor, organisers, at the end of the year, look for music that is appropriate for a befitting finale, before picking Omawumi.

    An excited Omawumi, a mother of two, said of her performance: “The response from my last performance was amazing. Thanks to everyone who watched, commented and shared. I’m deeply humbled. Thanks to the @worldfoodprize for the invitation and congratulations to Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina for being a beacon of Nigeria”.

    The singer was also spotted with ex-Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo.

    Born Omawumi Megbele, the Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress is a brand ambassador for top brands such as Globacom, Konga.com, and Malta Guinness.

    She’s also part of the campaign called “Rise with the Energy of Africa”. Omawumi came to limelight as the runner-up of West African Idols competition in 2007.

    The event follows the award of 2017 World Food Prize to Mr. Adesina, where he announced his decision to dedicate the $250,000 cash prize to providing financing for youths of Africa for agricultural development.

    Telecoms giant, Globacom said arrangements have been concluded for top A-list music and comedy artists to thrill fans at its Benin City music and comedy show.
    It said Benin City was picked to host the first show because of it large subscriber base.
    Speaking at an informal media luncheon hosted by Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator, Mid-West Territory, Mr. Augustus-ndi Offor, said the Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour and the Glo Laffta Fest was to reward its customers in the State.
    Mr. Offor explained that the two shows would also go round other 26 major cities across the country
    Among the first-rated artistes to perform in Benin City included Olamide, Flavour, Runtown, Omawumi, Yemi Alade, PSquare, Phyno, Timaya, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Di’Ja and Kiss Daniel.
    Expected comedians are Gordons, Basketmouth, Bovi, Salvador from Uganda, I Go Dye, Dan D Humorous, Bash, Seyi Law, Omobaba, Acapella, Senator, Helen Paul, Osama, Princewill, Mr. Patrick, Frank D Don, MC Tagwaye, Kenny Blaq, Funky Mallam, Arinze Baba, 2CanTalk, Maleke, Still Ringing and AB Simple.
    He further disclosed that the  Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour would commence in Benin on April 7 at the Best Western Hotel, Etete, GRA, Benin City and Glo Laffta Fest comedy shows will commence on April 9 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos and then move to 26 other cities.
    According to him, “we are running the spectacular shows as a way of saying thank you to our teeming subscribers across the country for their loyalty, support and abiding faith in the Glo brand over the years.”
    “The shows are specially designed to celebrate and reward our teeming subscribers and to demonstrate to them that we will spare no efforts at delighting them at all times as they are the reason why we are in business. The icing on the cake is that all these arrays of mega-stars will be entertaining our esteemed subscribers in all the locations free of charge”, the telecommunications giant added.
    “Subscribers who desire to be invited for the Glo Mega Music Tour are required to use N3,000 one month preceding each show and text “Music” and their preferred location to 207. A subscriber who wishes to attend the Ibadan event for example, should text  “Music Ibadan” to 207.  Subscribers wishing to attend the Glo Laffta Fest shows are also encouraged to use N3,000 before the show and send “LOL” to a short code, 240.
    “Benin city will be hosting the first show because of the importance of the city to Globacom business, while the first Glo Laffta Fest will hold  at the Eko Hotels Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday, April 9.”

    OMAWUMI: I’M GLAD I DIDN’T ABORT MY FIRST PREGNANCY

    SOULFUL singer, Omawumi Megbele, known as Omawonder, whose first child was a year older on June 18, 2016, has shared with fans that she is glad she did not get rid of her first pregnancy; which she was delivered of a baby girl in 2011.

    She wrote on her Instagram page, “It was my daughter’s 5th birthday. She had a small party and whispered to her Godmother @officialwaje ‘I’m so happy! Don’t tell anybody'(I wonder why at such a young age she don already know to hide herself).

    “But that’s not the reason for this post. I just remembered the journey and how everything just arranged itself. What if I had done it differently waiting for the appointed time? Who knows whether it would have turned out all wrong? …I hope I’m not raining on anyone’s aspirations, my own na say find happiness in the moment.”

    The Globacom ambassador, who gained attention as the 2007 runner-up on West African Idols, later got married to the father of her daughter in 2015 at the Ikoyi Registry in Lagos.

    The couple was in 2015 blessed with a baby boy.

    Songstress, songwriter and actress Omawumi Megbele is out with a new video, featuring legendary Francophone music diva Angelique Kidjo. Titled Play na Play, the single is a soulful ballad rendered in pidgin English; the unofficial lingua franca of her native Niger Delta region of Nigeria. A subtle reminder of the common adage, “Look before you leap” Especially when dealing with crooked people.

    The video is a completely different kind of sound from what current holds in the Nigerian music scene, where she seeks to take her listeners on a musical journey. An infinitely enjoyable soothing yet danceable video, set to break records by a being part of an entirely live video. Her third album is expected to be out sometime in the year.

    It was shot in New Jersey by George Stuber for Monstar film, with the Live Production arrangement by award winning producer; Cobhams Asuquo, and was produced by Bukola Are for Of Kind Creatives.

    The Globacom, Konga, and Malta Guiness ambassador has come a long way from her days as a contestant in Idols West Africa; the Reality Show which is part of the Idols franchise. Although she didn’t win, it brought her to public idea where she has remained ever since, parleying the success by going on to perform with the likes of P-Square, 2face Idibia, D’Banj, Banky W, M.I, Sasha, 9ice, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Carl Thomas, Angie Stone, Donell Jones and lots more.

    The lawyer, turned entertainer is one of the most commercially viable musicians in Nigeria, commanding performance fees as high several millions per show.

    CONTRARY to African belief that women usually grow big after delivery, Nigerian singer/songwriter, Omawumi Megbele, who recently gave birth to her second child, is still looking beautiful.

    Megbele, who is suspected to have hit the gym to maintain a good body shape, was one of the performing artistes at the 2face Idibia’s 40th birthday gig, tagged #Fortyfied.

    The mother of two, who gave birth to her second child, a baby boy with husband, Tosin Yusuf, is said to have gotten engaged secretly to avoid making a public show. Her fans have said that she is also jealously keeping her private life out of her career.

    In a recent interview, Megbele who is yet to change her maiden name, revealed that it will not be easy combining family with her career, but promised to do her best not to disappoint her fans.

    “I just want to use this opportunity to tell people that I will try as much as possible to be a normal artiste and I want to encourage people to try and enjoy my music. It’s not easy but they should just try not to be concerned about my private life. They should know that I’m a human being and they should try to understand that I try to be a person that people can look up to.”

    Close friends of recording artist Omawumi on Sunday, 12th April 2015, treated her to a surprise baby shower at Intercontinental Hotel Lagos which Waje, Latasha Ngwube and her husband Tosin Yussuf who were the chief organizers kept it under wraps.

    It was a star studded party in one of the Presidential suites of the hotel. The events of the day were trailed by laughter, games, snacks courtesy the hotel’s Bar 150 and tears from the second time mum to be who doesn’t like surprise parties as she stated on her instagram page.

    “Lying in bed after my friends threw a surprise baby shower for me… Today is the first day that I’ve had a surprise anything because I always bully my friends that I don’t like surprise parties” she said

    “Guess what happened? I cried like a baby! I felt (still feel) so loved!!! Thanx to all my friends who made this surprise happen! Thanx so much for the love, I selected my friends well! Different personalities, beautiful inside out, and real lovers of God” she continued

    It was a star studded shower which had in attendance Tiwa Savage, Toke Makinwa, Lami Philips, Rita Dominic, Toju Foyeh, Kunbi Oyelese, Sasha P, Toolz, Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, Toolz, Damilola Adegbite, Andrea Giaccaglia and Chigul who was a much needed comic relief.

    Omawumi’s first pregnancy was shrouded in secrecy as she was yet unmarried to Tosin Yusssuf.

The mother of one who is presently rocking baby bump married her baby daddy, Tosin Yusuf at Ikoyi Registry few weeks ago. Come April, the lawyer turned musician will be having her traditional engagement with her beau in her hometown, Delta State.  The ‘if you ask me crooner hugged stardom when she became the first runner-up in the first ever Idols West Africa and her career has continue to soar since then.

    When the media first got wind of Omawumi’s out-of-wedlock pregnancy, everyone wanted to know the father. Unfortunately, Omawumi decided to keep the details to herself and there were many reports suggesting the father to be a popular south south governor but Omawumi debunked those claims.

    She welcomed her child, Emmanuella Kamillah Yusuf on Saturday, June 18, 2011 in the U.S and new reports surfaced  claiming that Tosin Yusuf, one time co-owner of Zamunda night club was in fact Kamillah’s father. All through this period, Omawumi kept mum. However, Waje, who is Omawumi’s close friend and godmother to her daughter tweeted on the 7th of May, saying:  ‘you don’t even care what your silky stories would be doing to her. Tosin Yussuf is fine and well, leave the poor girl alone. Tufiakwa!!!’

    His name was on record, thanks to Waje, but there was no picture of him whatsoever. In late 2013, Omawumi herself released a blurry picture on instagram of her nuclear family that included herself, her daughter and Tosin Yussuf, with the caption ‘Thank you so much for your patience. Clearer photos and good news sooner than you know. God is always good’

    The rumours may now go to rest, Tosin Ibrahim Yusuf is indeed the father of Omawumi’s baby and sources say Omawumi is planning on tying the knot soon. Could it be to Tosin Yusuf? We may have to wait to find out.

    Tosin Ibrahim Yusuf holds a degree in Business Management and an MSc in International Business from De-Montfort University, Leicester.  He was part owner of the now defunct Zamunda night club in Lagos. He is the founding director of ‎Lloyd Gate Ltd, located in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos and he is now a big player in the real estate industry.

    IN the spirit of the Valentine’s Day, award- winning singer, Omawumi, has just released three new songs that capture the essence of the season for lovers.

    One of the songs, Finally, produced by E-Kelly, is a powerful music narrative that has a mind of its own. It dwells on the issue of love between a man and a woman. The rhythm and melody express some personal ecstasy in the way she delivers the song.

    The second single, You Must Love Me, is more receptive due to its mid-tempo masterpiece. The lyric is enthralling with the profession of true love. It was produced by Sizzle Pro.

    Serious Love Nwatinti (remix), which is the third single, highlights her love for live instrumentation. One will also notice that the tempo of the song has increased compared to the original version on her debut album, Wonda Woman.
