  • Two men remanded in prison over alleged armed robbery

    An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded two brothers, Olowosola Abiodun, 30 and Olowosola ‎ Sunday, 35 in prison over alleged armed robbery.

    The accused of no fixed addresses are facing a charge of armed robbery.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Omolola Akosile, ordered that they should be remanded ‎and adjourned the case until Nov. 1 for mention.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 29 in Ikole-Ekiti.

    Ikebuilo alleged that the two brothers robbed Mr Taiwo Isaac of N1.3 million‎ at a filling station, Taiwo Petrol Nigeria Ltd., Ikole-Ekiti.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 1 (3) of Robbery and Firearm Special Provision Act.

    She urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending outcome of legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    However, plea of the accused were not taken when the charge was read to them.

    Man in court for stealing employer’s N2.7m

    The Police on Thursday arraigned a 26-year-old man, Adoni Chukwudi, ‎before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft.

    The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a count charge of theft.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 16 at about 0430hrs at Arowolo House, at Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti.

    She alleged that the defendant, who is an employee, did burgle the window of warehouse of Real Great Emmab Option Concept and stole the sum of N2, 715, 850.00 belonging to one Mr Okeke Emmanuel, director of the company‎.

    She said that the offence contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap C77 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

    The prosecutor asked the Court for adjournment to enable her to study the case file and present her witnesses.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    His counsel, Mr Joe Onumiya, urged the Court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Omolola Akosile, granted bail to the defendant ‎in the sum of  N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, the sureties to
    present evidence of landed property.

    Akosile adjourned the case until December 4 for hearing.

  • Pastor arraigned for allegedly stealing N350,000

    A pastor, Ajayi Pius, 45, was on Monday arraigned before Magistrate Omolola Akosile of  an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court, Ekiti, for  allegedly stealing N350,000.

    The accused is facing a charge of stealing.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometimes in June 2013 at Falana area of Ado-Ekiti.

    “The accused who is a pastor in an indigenous church (names withheld) situated at Basiri, in Ado-Ekiti, was alleged to have stolen N350, 000 kept in his car.

    “The amount was to be used by one Rufai Mercy to rent an apartment.’’

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 383 and was punishable under Section 390 (8b) of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The prosecutor, however, applied for adjournment to enable her study the case file ‎and assembly witnesses.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    His counsel, Mr Simeon Ojo, applied for his bail on liberal terms and promised that the accused would not jump bail.

    The magistrate, Mrs Omolola Akosile, granted the defendant N 50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

    She said that the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction and must have verifiable addresses.

    The magistrate adjourned the case till April 27 for hearing.

    Two men arraigned for threatening to kill counsel

    For allegedly threatening to kill a counsel, Mrs Adeola Adetayo, two accused: Adefemi Awe, 58 and Taiwo Okunade, 33, appeared in an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

    The accused, whose addresses were not given, are facing two-count-charge of breach of peace and threat to life.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the two accused conspired with one other to commit the offence on Feb. 2 in Fajuyi area of Ado-Ekiti.

    Ikebuilo further said that Awe and Okunade threatened to kill Adetayo for being the counsel in a case against their brother.

    “While the counsel was discharging her duties, the accused went to her and threatened her life, saying she allowed the court to send their brother to prison on a cyber-stalking case,’’ he said.

    Ikebuilo urged the court for a short adjournment to enable her study the case file and assembly her witnesses‎.
    The offences contravened Section 517 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The two accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The counsel to the accused, Mr Ayodele Motiru, however, urged the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms.

    The Magistrate, Omolola Akosile, granted the prayer of Motiru and granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case to Feb. 13 for hearing.
