    Following the backlash that followed Omoni Oboli’s outfit choice to the private screening of her movie ‘Being Mrs Elliot’ at Aso villa, the actress has defended herself saying there was nothing wrong with it.

    “I styled myself and I thought the outfit appropriate because there were no vital parts showing. Sometimes the angles with which pictures are taken can portray certain things you do not have the intention of portraying” she said in an interview with The Punch.

    Omoni Oboli screens Being Mrs Elliot for Jonathan

    It was, undoubtedly, a momentous occasion at the weekend when Nollywood star, Omoni Oboli, was received by President Goodluck Jonathan during a private screening of her movie, Being Mrs Elliot, at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.

    The event was graced by other dignitaries, including Vice President Namadi Sambo, AY Makun, Lepacious Bose, Mahmood Ali-Balogun and Chioma Ude, among others.

    Prior to the screening, the actress had promised Nollywood movie lovers a treat when the movie starts showing in Nigerian cinemas. “This movie is one of the best to have come out of Nollywood.  The attention to detail, characterization and professionalism all come together to make it a must-watch.  When you watch the movies, you will see a high level of professionalism and revolution in the way the movie was produced,” she said.

    Being Mrs Elliott is the story of a successful married woman, who is torn between two worlds after a life-changing incident.

    The movie, which opened the Nollywood Week Film Festival in Paris recently, also received 11 nominations at the Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA) in California, USA.

    NOLLYWOOD actress, producer and director, Omoni Oboli, has said that her new movie, Being Mrs Elliott, will be a cinema treat for movie lovers.

    Speaking about the movie, she said; “If you enjoyed The Figurine, Half of a Yellow Sun and Anchor Baby, you will definitely enjoy Being Mrs Elliott. This movie is one of the best to have come out of Nollywood, given the attention to detail, characterization and professionalism. When you watch the movies I mentioned, you would see a high level of professionalism and revolution in the way they were produced.

     “With this movie, I can assure you that movie lovers are in for a special treat when it goes to the cinemas. Though it is my first directing effort, it is not going to be a slap in Nollywood’s face. I am sure that it will be a reference point in movie production in the Nigerian movie industry.”

    The movie is the story of a successful married woman, who is torn between two worlds after a life-changing incident.

    Being Mrs Elliott, which opened the Nollywood Week Film Festival in Paris two months ago and got 11 nominations at the Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA) in California, USA, would be in cinemas across the country later this year.

    The movie starts screening in Nigerian cinemas on September 6.

    Actress and movie producer, Omoni Oboli, recently made her directorial debut with the movie, Being Mrs Elliot.

    But as questions are being asked about her credibility as a movie director, the thespian has disclosed that she did not jump into an unfamiliar field without seeking adequate knowledge.

    “Not only have I picked up on-the-field experience, I also went to one of the best film schools in the world, the New York Film Academy (NYFA) to learn directing specifically. My lecturers were impressed with my project and I remain one of the few female practitioners in the industry who have gone to the school. If my years of experience and NYFA education don’t qualify me, I wonder what will. For those who know about movie and those who have taste for good movie, Being Mrs Elliott will more than impress,” she said through her publicist.

    Being Mrs Elliott is the story of a successful married woman, who is torn between two worlds after a life-changing incident. She finds out that the best life has to offer is not necessarily things, but moments.

    NOLLYWOOD actress cum producer, Omoni Oboli, was the guest speaker at a programme tagged “Mentors Breakfast” organised by GLEEHD Foundation and The Dream Centre on Wednesday, July 2,  in Gbagada, Lagos.

    The event provided an opportunity for young people to interact with the award-winning actress who shared her success story with them.

    During the session, she revealed that the biggest decision she had ever made was turning down a job in an oil and gas firm to pursue a career in acting with a determination to succeed in the industry.

    Omoni, who also took time to direct an impromptu play during the session, advised members of the audience to choose their spouses very carefully, adding that they should marry people who support their dreams and visions.

    She also said New Nollywood had been trying to reduce stereotypes and address the ills that characterised the early Nollywood movies.

    It was a memorable for the participants as the top Nollywood star gave out free copies of her movie, Anchor Baby, at the session.

    THE fifth edition of the Best of Nollywood, BON, may have come and gone, but it lingers in the memory and minds of the organisers as well as the guests of the occasion.

    Like in previous editions, the event, which was held in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, was organised to reward acting talents whose sweats had placed the Nigerian movie industry, otherwise known as Nollywood, on the global map.

    Welcoming guests to the BON Awards, convener of the rewards system, Seun Oloketuyi, stated that the success story of the Nigerian movie industry is due majorly to the sheer ingenuity and foresight of the Nollywood stars.

    “From scratch and nothingness, some of the people here today have turned Nollywood into a multibillion-naira business employing hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, while bringing joy to many homes and playing an important role in shaping the social and economic development of this country,” said Oloketuyi.

    Among the winners of the BON Awards are O.C Ukeje (Best Actor in a leading role in an English movie, Alan Poza); Omoni Oboli (Best Actress in a leading role in an English movie, Brother’s Keeper); Mike Ezuruoyen (Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Yoruba movie, Unforgivable); Joke Muyiwa (Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Yoruba movie, Ayitale); Alex Ekubo (Best Actor in a Supporting Role in an English movie, Weekend Getaway); Rita Dominic (Best Actress in a Supporting Role in an English movie, Finding Mercy); Odunlade Adekola (Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Yoruba movie, Aja); Fathia Balogun (Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Yoruba movie, Irugbin) as well as Oyinda Lanpejo (Best Child Actor, female in Finding Mercy), among others.

    Oloketuyi further said that “The journey here has not been entirely hitch-free. Indeed, we are like a newborn baby who has had to go through the whole process of growing up, from crawling to taking the first tentative steps and actually walking.”

    Top flight Nollywood actress yesterday took to her twitter handle to mourn one of the victims of the ill-fated flight of Thursday,October 3, Deji Falae who would have added a year October 9.
    It was in the indeed a heartfelt message that caught the attention of other sympathizers who couldn’t hold back the urge to reply with comments, consoling the actress as well as families of the deceased.

    Omoni in her message said, “Death took you Deji, a few days to your birthday. God knows best. Father you are worthy of our praise.

    Happy Birthday! RIP! Forever in our hearts. In another tweet the actress said, “Happy birthday Deji, you would have been a year older today. We remember you dear friend. RIP!
