    • Says team mates must recoup loss points in Warri

Two goal hero during Akwa United’s 2-3 home loss to Enugu Rangers, Fortune Omoniwari has rued the Promise Keepers’ loss to the Flying Antelopes in Uyo while stressing that he and his team mates must fight like wounded lions in the remaining 10 matches of the season to recoup loss points.

Omoniwari told SportingLife that he would have loved to swap his goals with Akwa United’s victory if he had the chance to do that but that they must  be prepared to surmount the remaining matches with all calmness starting from their road trip to Warri against Warri Wolves on Sunday.

Omoniwari told SportingLife: “This is a very painful loss because we had anticipated a home win to add to the progress we have made. I would have

loved we won the match than the two goals I scored today(Saturday).

“We must work harder to ensure that we get back the points we have lost at home and we must commence that with our road trip to Warri Wolves on Sunday.”

Akwa United, who are on 36 points from 26 matches, have been beaten three times at home this season by Abia Warriors, Enyimba and now Enugu Rangers and the latest loss will be a big blow to their aspiration to end the season within continental slots.

Omoniwari, who was magnificent during the match, warned his colleagues not to be carried away by the allure of the win and forget some of the mistakes they made during the match, especially the one that resulted in Pillars’ opener.

He said the season has come to a stage that teams must learn to limit errors and strive to supply top notch performances always if they are to get good results.

“I want to thank God for this win. It was a tough one. We must not forget that we made some mistakes that we need to correct before our game with Plateau United this weekend and in the remaining matches too,” Omoniwari told SportingLife.

The Pride of Makurdi pulled all strings in their armoury to get the equaliser but Heartland’s defence marshalled by goalkeeper, Ebele Obi and skipper, Chinedu Efugh stood their ground to claim all points.

Before yesterday’s match, Heartland had played four games without a win with a paltry two points to show but the win over Lobi has taken their points tally to five from five matches.

He told SportingLife that his target is to score as many goals as possible this season and that if fielded against Warri Wolves on Sunday in the league opener, the Seasiders would feel his pulse throughout the duration of the match.

Omoniwari confessed various offers  almost turned his head but that after he considered the love and affection shown to him by the fans of the club, fellow players and the management, he chose to remain with the team to grab at least a continental ticket.

The former Sharks player joined Heartland during the last mid-season and he made instant impact for the team and scored some crucial goals as the Naze Millionaires ended the campaign seventh on the log with 56 points from 38 games.
