  • Ondo Assembly extends council chiefs’ tenure

    The Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday extended the tenure of 18 local government Caretaker Chairmen by six months.

    The motion for extension was moved at plenary by the Majority Leader in the Assembly, Mr. Ifedayo Akinsoyinu.

    Akinsoyinu represents Ondo West Constituency II in the assembly.

    The motion was seconded by Mr. Banso Adeyinka who represents Akoko North-West Constituency I.

    Akinsoyinu said the motion for extension followed the request from the governor for the extension of the tenure of interim caretaker chairmen in the state.

    He said the extension of   the chairmen’s tenure became imperative given its expiration on Wednesday.

    “ Mr. Governor has sought for six months extension and I hereby move the motion for the extension,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the lawmaker as saying at the plenary.

    The House, which was presided over by the new speaker, Mrs. Jumoke Akindele, resolved that extension of the chairmen’s tenure would enable them complete ongoing projects in their councils.

     

  • Ondo Assembly to give Speaker state burial

    ONDO State House of Assembly has said it would give a befitting State burial to its late Speaker, Mr Samuel Adesina. Adesina died on Tuesday at the age of 53. The Deputy Speaker, Dare Emiola dropped the hint while receiving the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Adewale Omirin at the Assembly Complex, Igbatoro road, Akure. Omirin, who led the delegation of lawmakers from Ekiti State, also expressed the condolences of Governor Kayode Fayemi to members of the Ondo Assembly and the family of the departed Speaker. He said the deceased was a committed member of the Conference of Speakers, adding that he lived a fulfilled life and served his state diligently with passion. Omirin charged the legislators to emulate Adesina’s sterling qualities and build on the legacies he left behind. The Ekiti Assembly Speaker assured that the Conference of Speakers would actively participate in the burial ceremony of their late colleague. Responding, Emiola said the house would not forget the wisdom and knowledge with which the late speaker piloted the affairs of the House in the last four years.

  • Ondo Assembly approves N15.02bn for power sector

    The Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday approved the release of N15.02 billion for the Power Sector Special Intervention Fund by the government.

    The Speaker, Mr. Samuel Adesina, announced this in Akure during the presentation of a report by the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Fidelis Akinwolemiwa.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the committee was assigned on June 13 to work on a letter sent to the house by Governor Olusegun Mimmiko, asking for approval to pay the state and 18 local governments’ share of the fund.

    In its report, the committee said it invited the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Rotimi Adelola, for findings about the fund before it made recommendations for the consideration of the house.

    The house, however, urged the government to strictly monitor the fund deducted to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, and ensure that it was judiciously utilised.
