As  part of efforts to enhance the well-being of his constituents, the Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District in the Senate, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has donated a 24-bed obstetric hospital to his home town, Oka Akoko in Akoko South/West Local Government Area.

Boroffice, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, said the need to provide adequate health care for his people motivated him to carry out the project which was one of the projects he intends to execute.

He said: “My constituency needs facilities for health delivery, more so as health is one of the aims of the Millennium Development Goals.

“Though it is called obstetric care hospital, it also has a maternity facility,” he said.

Some features of the obstetric centre include operating theatre, delivery room, antenatal ward; doctors’ consulting rooms, nurses residential quarters and electric-motorised wheel chairs.

It also has pharmacy department, medical records department, waiting room for patients, 24-hour solar-powered electricity, solar-driven borehole for potable water, even as all rooms and offices have air-conditioners.

The Senator said the project would be handed over to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owo for optimal use.

According to him, the centre will later be expanded when more doctors are available.

He promised to make financial provisions for the health centre his priority, saying he would not abandon it.

In his remarks, a member representing Akoko Southeast/Southwest Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Babatunde Kolawole said the project is commendable.

Kolawole noted that the centre would bring medical care to the doorsteps of residents of the constituency unlike before when they had to travel to Owo to access health care.

He said the facility would also reduce the risk associated with travelling to a far place to receive medical treatment.

The Olubaka of Oka-Akoko, Oba Adebori Adeleye noted that the project would have positive impact in the lives of members of the constituency, saying it was people-oriented.

The monarch said: “This is better than when politicians give out money. I urge you to make judicious use of the facility. I also encourage Senator Boroffice not to relent in his efforts to make life significant for members of his constituency.

Earlier, the Acting Head of Clinical Services, FMC, Owo, Dr Kunle Adesokan said the Senator had brought quality tertiary health care to members of the constituency.

Adesokan said FMC Owo would ensure availability of skilled personnel at the centre.

He called for provision of facilities and equipment needed for basic surgical and obstetric procedures and the ability to make diagnostic test and enhance medical and paediatric consultations.

According to him, there must be plan for maintenance of the equipment, even as he said the facilities would be expanded and upgraded.

Dr Adesokan expressed his optimism that if the seed of the project is well watered and nurtured, it would blossom and be beneficial for all and sundry.

The Chairman of the project committee, Alfred Omosola said the project was just a tip of the iceberg when compared with other ones facilitated by the Senator in the constituency.

Some of the projects, Omosola said, include Biofuel Ethanol Plant, Ajowa, the Incubation Centre, Iwaro Oka and skill acquisition centre, Oka, among others.

He said the health care facility was another landmark achievement of Senator Boroffice for his constituents.

The Chairman, Akoko Consultative Forum (ACF) in Akoko Northwest Local Government Area, Mr. Christopher Olorunfemi, described the project as a good development, saying it would enhance the health status of the citizens.

Ondo guber: Tinubu, Akande have no anointed candidate – Boroffice

The Senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State to disregard the rumours on purported endorsement of any of the 25 governorship aspirants of the party by its national leadership.

A statement in Akure, the state capital by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, described the rumor on endorsement as needless distraction that will never aid its promoters.

He urged the over 3,000 delegates in the party to remain vigilant and steadfast as some desperate politicians may have ignited the rumor in an attempt to derail the focus of the party on free, fair, credible and transparent primary election.

Boroffice said he got assurances from the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former interim National chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and  party leaders in the Southwest geopolitical zone that there is nothing like anointed aspirant or endorsement as far as the governorship primary election of the party is concerned.

The Asiwaju of Akokoland said: “As an aspirant and democrat, I have had intimate interactions and engagements with party delegates over the years.

“The support I enjoy from them is reassuring. No distraction, whether calculated or accidental, can derail our focus on August 27, the scheduled date for primary election. My supporters and I are ready to participate and win.”
He urged the party loyalists to comport themselves and ensure that the desired change in governance needed in the state is realised from February next year.

NDDC nomination: Boroffice calls for calm in riverine communities

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has appealed for calm due to the palpable tension in the oil-producing communities in Ondo State over nominations for the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The Senator made this appeal on Friday in a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide,  Kayode Adeniyi.

The APC Chieftain said: “I have received countless calls, text messages and electronic mails from concerned people of Ondo State, particularly our brothers and the sisters from the oil-producing communities in Ondo State on the issue of nominees for the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

“Some of the people did raise petitions and expressed dissenting views while some threatened to embark on protests as regards the composition of nominees for the Board of NDDC.
“However, the NDDC Act is clear with no iota of ambiguity on the requirements that must be fulfilled.

“Therefore, I want to alert concerned and aggrieved citizens of Ondo State that the leadership of All Progressives Congress at the topmost level has intervened and taken up the issue.  Our people should be rest-assured that justice will be done on the issue.

“Finally,  as members of one big political family, I appeal to concerned citizens to back out from any planned protest,  if any,  since the issue will be resolved soon.”

Boroffice urges Ondo indigenes to ‘troop out en mass’ for CVR

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice on Monday urged the people of Ondo State to troop out en masse for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the State.

According to a statement issued by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, the exercise is scheduled to take place between Wednesday, June 22 and Sunday, June 26, 2016.

The senator, in the statement, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), “to embark on the wholly cleansing of the voters’ register and thereafter safeguard the register from desperate politicians whose antecedents have shown the manipulative capacity to hijack and play foul with voters register by injecting invisible voters.”

“Those persons who did not register in the previous voters’ registration exercise and have reached 18 years and above should endeavour to participate in the CVR exercise. It is also an opportunity for registered voters to transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to preferred polling units.

“The assurance from INEC on the credibility of the exercise is welcoming. Beyond the assurance, INEC should embark on a general cleansing of the voters’ register and safeguard same.

“Meanwhile, our people should be reminded that the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain the only instrument that can enable them to exercise the franchise to determine who governs Ondo State. It represents the power with which workers can change the party which government has made non-payment of salaries a matter of policy. It is also the only instrument with which the people can install a responsible government.

“I urge the people of Ondo State to troop out en masse to participate in the CVR exercise. They should rise and take charge of the process. I wish them hitch-free registration exercise,” the statement read.

  • Alleged misuse of public funds: Boroffice replies Mimiko

Alleged misuse of public funds: Boroffice replies Mimiko

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has reiterated his unwavering commitment towards the peace and progress of Ondo State in the wake of state-sponsored falsehood against his personality.

This is contained in a statement signed by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, in which the Senator condemned media reports wherein the Ondo State government through its Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade‎, alleged that Senator Boroffice is planning to cause unrest with his comments on unpaid salaries of workers in the state.

According to the Senator, the allegation is baseless and unfounded, adding that there is no such plan.

“Akinmade must have realised that he failed to wave off the patriotic appeal made by Senator Boroffice to leaders of labour unions in the state to defend their colleagues, with his first reaction wherein he lied that the Senator condemned move by the Mimiko-led administration to secure refund for money spent on federal roads in the state.

“It is a matter of public records, that Senator Boroffice only advised the federal government to thoroughly verify claims by the state government in view of conflicting figures which emanated from the Mimiko-led administration.

“The second statement issued by the government on the same issue which is obviously an afterthought ‎is baseless and unfounded as there is no such plan to cause unrest in our dear state.

‎‎”The government is yet to explain how an appeal to the leadership of labour unions in the state to defend their colleagues‎ can equate to “deep-seated opposition towards the progress of the state,” the statement read.

The Senator stressed that beyond the recent wild allegations and incoherent ranting of Mimiko’s hireling, the drowning Mimiko-led administration, that is frightened and terrified due to the acceptability of Senator Boroffice across the nooks and crannies of the state, had put up media machinery that is wholly funded from the state government treasury to purposely attack the personality of Senator Boroffice.

It further said: “However, irrespective of the evil plans, Senator Boroffice is undeterred as he will continue to stand by the people of Ondo State on the issues of governance.

“Also, the allegation that Senator Boroffice manipulated the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission to write a report contrary to its monitoring team’s findings is strange and absurd. Senator Boroffice doesn’t supervise or tele-guide the operations of the ICPC. The allegation should be discarded and disregarded by the people.”

According to the Senator in the statement, the ‎claim by Ondo State government that ICPC has written a formal letter to retract its initial report on diversion of bailout funds, whether false or not, is immaterial as it is evident in the state that bailout funds were either diverted or out rightly stolen.

More so, the Senator queried the delay of about six month‎ salaries and pensions, since the government has reportedly received the inflow of over N50billion in the past few months, requesting that the Mimiko-led administration should account for the N2billion it received from federal government as ecological funds in 2015.

“On a conclusive note, if unrest is about protests and demonstrations, so far the Ondo State government continues to treat workers with contempt and refuses to halt the condemnable diversion of workers’ salaries in the state, ‎there is likelihood.

“The workers do not require any prompting from Senator Boroffice before down tooling or protesting like they have done in the past. Some agencies of the government have been on industrial action since 2015.

“Just as health workers protested against unpaid salaries and shut down hospitals in the state on Tuesday. The government spokesman should stop passing the buck to Senator Boroffice’s table as it stops at Governor Mimiko’s desk,” it observed.

  • Ondo: Boroffice replies Mimiko, insists govt lied

Ondo: Boroffice replies Mimiko, insists govt lied

The Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has replied the Ondo State Government over its reactions to the controversial sum of N11bn allegedly spent by the state government on federal roads in the state.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senator said that the reaction of the Mimiko-led administration to his honest observations raised more questions than answers.

“The Media Office of Distinguished Senator (Prof.) Ajayi Boroffice has noted the reaction of the Ondo State Government, through its Commissioner of Information, Kayode Akinmade, to the appeal made by Senator Boroffice to the Federal Government on the need to exercise circumspection on the issue of reimbursement of funds reportedly spent on federal roads to the Mimiko-led government.

“The twin-ground of appeal are: firstly, it was in view of the conflicting figures emanating from the governor and his appointees. Secondly, it was due to the fact that most of the federal roads, for which the Mimiko-led administration is seeking reimbursement, are presently death traps that require the urgent intervention of the federal government.

“Therefore, the under listed points must be stated: That the reaction of the government falls short of gubernatorial mien. It was hogwash from a sloppy commissioner who glaringly failed in the cruel bid to muddle up issues with his expressed befuddlement and confusion. Obviously, he knows little or nothing about the government he speaks for.

“Meanwhile, the insinuation that Senator Boroffice is working against the interest of the state‎ is false and misleading. That was a poor shot at blackmailing the federal lawmaker for his honest observations.

“Why is the government seeking to wipe sympathies of the people like a forsaken-crying baby? A man who has been at the forefront of attracting the intervention of the federal government to fix bad roads in Ondo State cannot be said to be working against the interest or hate the same state. He should also not be expected to keep mute when there is a coordinated plan to defraud the federal government,” the statement read.

Similarly, the Senator noted that it is a known fact that the N11bn claimed to have been expended on federal roads in Ondo State is an accumulated figure from past administrations.

The Lawmaker further said: “Of course, the Mimiko-led administration couldn’t have claimed it single-handedly spent N11bn on roads when roads are not built inside a dome – the official conduit pipe to siphon public resources. The emphasis of the government on an obvious fact is therefore a mere distraction. It doesn’t address the issue of conflicting figures”

‎Putting the record straight, Senator Boroffice noted that on Tuesday, 10th of November 2015, Governor Mimiko claimed that the state government was owed N7bn on federal roads. Senator Boroffice also noted that on Thursday, 29th of January 2015, the state commissioner for Works, Gboye Adegbenro‎ said‎ that N11bn was spent on federal roads.

Presently, Akinmade has claimed part of the N11bn incurred by the state government had been paid three years ago with N9bn balance yet to be paid. If this administration were to be a transparent one, should it take the observation of Senator Boroffice to bring it to public domain that it received N2bn in 2013?

The Senator raised further questions saying: “If the state government was paid N2bn out of N11bn in 2013, why did a commissioner of works, Gboye Adegbenro, claim that the amount yet to be received by the state government was N11bn in 2015? Was the money received without the knowledge of the state commissioner? Was it received through the backdoor or did Adegbenro deliberately lie to the people on behalf of the government?

“Considering the fact that Akinmade has said N9bn is the balance yet to be paid, why did Governor Mimiko claim it was N7bn in November, 2015? Does it mean Governor Mimiko made an uninformed comment? Who should the people believe between Governor Mimiko and Akinmade? Who is in charge?

“Rather than reconcile figures, the commissioner has only confirmed that indeed, the figures brandished by the Governor and other officials of the government ‎are conflicting. ‎A competent government official would not seek to wave off issue of accountability and transparency by resorting to political innuendoes. That is being clever by half.

“As clearly analyzed above, Akinmade needs to acquire basic rudiments of arithmetic as much as he needs fundamental knowledge of space technology.”

On a reiterating note, Senator Boroffice maintains the view that most of the affected roads are death traps and the people of Ondo State would prefer the federal government to fix them rather than pay such funds to an administration that lacks accountability and transparency.

“‎Finally, given the established conflicting figures as admitted by the officials of the Ondo State Government, the federal government should exercise caution on this issue. And the Hon. Rotimi Ameachi-led team should make its report and recommendations available to the public,” the Federal Lawmaker maintained.
