APC to Mimiko: Explain how you spent Ondo funds
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has asked Governor Olusegun Mimiko to explain why there is only N3.4billion in the coffer of the state. The party said the Governor must tell the people of Ondo State how he managed the Federal allocations collected between January and May.Addressing reporters in Akure, the State capital, State Publicity Secretary of the party, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya said Governor Mimiko has not explained how he got the N3.4billion and how he has spent the allocations from January. The APC said one would wonder why the Governor can not put two months allocations together to pay the workers salaries. It lamented the level of the pains and suffering of workers who are daily hoping to hear the good news from the Governor.“We noticed the arrogance and challant attitude of the Governor while addressing the workers on Tuesday“We want to say unequivocally that this Governor believes that he needs nothing from the people of Ondo State“Mimiko will never addressed workers like that in 2012 while he was seeking a second term in Office “Adesanya saidHe said the governor has not denied running various bank accounts on behalf of Ondo State.“This worker have information, we are begging them to release it. They are aware that tax payers money is stashed in some bank accounts“Governor Mimiko is only hiding this money to spend during the forthcoming governorship election ” APC alleged. The party wondered why they cannot borrow money as he did for the local government elections.“What value had the local government elections added to the welfare of workers, if the Governor can borrow money for local government elections, can’t he borrow to pay workers?“Mimiko said he has been borrowing for capital projects, then what has he been doing with Federal allocations? What happened to the state IGR?” the statement read. -

Mimiko’s foreign trip: PDP critises APC
The Ondo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state over its comments on the recent working visit to the United Kingdom (UK) in spite of the ongoing industrial action by workers in the state.
A statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Ayo Fadaka said even though the workers strike is unfortunate, but such action is not restricted to Ondo State as the spate of industrial action is ignited by the poor understanding of economic management of the APC led Federal Government.
PDP said: “It is widespread development across the nation as the factors responsible for it, here is a common development across the nation. It is instructive to declare that the insinuation concerning the Governor’s trip abroad in spite of the workers strike demonstrates clearly the poor understanding of the APC operatives on the workings of government.
“The fact that the Governor embarked on a working visit does not in any manner indicate that the apparatus of governance equally took a walk.
It explained that while the Governor was away, the Commissioner for Finance was in Abuja in respect of the N14billion staggered loan the State is accessing to settle Workers salaries, the Deputy Governor equally attended a NEC meeting with the Vice President and the House of Assembly also sat to give approval to the Executive’s quest to get the aforementioned loan.
The statement said”It is also germane that we emphatically declare for the umpteenth time that Governor’s trip to the United Kingdom was sponsored by the authorities of the Chattam House who also took care of his stay and feeding while he was their guest.
“It was a working visit for the Governor who used the opportunity to enunciate the many achievements that have been recorded in our health sector, a factor that is responsible for his invitation in the first instance, and the need for the Governor to share this experience on a world platform.
“It is germane to mention that the Ondo model in health care will be of help in many developing nations since it has been made public in a cathedral of policy formulations that the Chattam House represents”.
PDP said the APC operatives in the State should learn a lesson in playing opposition, saying” It is our sincere opinion that it should constructively criticize developments in our State without being outlandish and pedestrian.
“The claim that the Governor lives in opulence in the Government House is the kind of cheap talk that reigns in a drinking joint, they should learn how to logically proffer the other view without being petty and it is only when they do this that they will attract the attention of the people.”
It maintained that the APC current stance of peddling abuses on the person of Governor Mimiko confirms their limitations, manners, quality of upbringing and ability to efficaciously play an opposition’s role.

Ondo State ripe for a youthful leader’
Michael ‘Laolu Adeyeye, one of the governorship aspirants in Ondo State contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is convinced that the state needs a youthful leader in order to achieve the vision of its founding fathers.
Speaking in an interview with The Nation at the weekend, Adeyeye, a lawyer, while justifying his gubernatorial ambition, said a lot has gone wrong with the state in the last couple of years since the advent of the outgoing administration.
“Been a governor in Ondo state is an ambition that I have nursed very quietly and prayerfully for a very long time. And I believe very strongly that the time is now. I looked around and I can see that there is a gap that needs to be filled. There is a need for an energetic leader for Ondo State, a young visionary leader for Ondo State. The state needs a leader with a modern outlook, a leader that can marry modern technology with traditional governance system and achieve great results for the people.”
A leader who understands the dynamics of governance in the 21st century and is not bogged down by the politics of sentiments and subjectivism. I realised that there is that gap and I have looked at the field and I have spoken to my people and they have said the only leader that they want to see now is a youthful, visionary leader and I believe by the grace of God I meet those specifications.”
Adeyeye who says he eschews godfatherism and all other ills associated with it, is convinced that there is need for a paradigm shift as far as governance is concerned.
“We’re not here to splash money around. We’re here to make sacrifice. We’re here to effect visible and transparent change that does not need to be sugar-coated or window dressed. That is why we’re in this race,” he stressed.

Mimiko’s wife is gift to humanity – Boroffice
The senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has showered encomium on the First Lady of Ondo State, Mrs OluKemi Mimiko as she marks her 49th birthday anniversary. In a congratulatory note issued by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, the senator said Mrs Mimiko is an indescribable gift to humanity.“Over the years, through her accomplishments and interventions, she has distinguished herself as a virtuous woman and role model that is worthy of emulation by her contemporaries and the younger feminine population.“I draw inspiration from 2 corinthians 9 : 15, to join other family members and well wishers to appreciate God for this indescribable gift to humanity. I wish her many more celebrations in good health,” he said. -

In Ondo APC, Boroffice holds the ace
Reminiscence of the days preceding the April 14, 2007 governorship contest in Ondo State, when the coinage – Iroko ravaged the length and breath of the state like an organism infested by staphylococcal contagio, active actors and meticulous observers of political happenstances and developments will concur with the assertion, that barely few months to the November 26 governorship election, the name – Boroffice has become an household name in Ondo State.
Beyond the seeming uniqueness of the name as not many families can claim ownership to such rare identity, the name has been subject of political discourse in the nooks and crannies of the state, on radio programmes, beer parlor arguments, conversations in homes and even unprovoked attacks from the state government and its agents.
While now sounds Portuguese, it is an anglicised yoruba that belongs to the descendants of the prominent Omololu family from the Oka-Akoko part of the state. Interesting, many persons have chosen to codify the name to various versions that suit them. While many people in the state now pronounce Boro-fix-it, some other persons especially, the aged and illiterates, prefer the Yoruba version; Boro fix eee.
Therefore, when a visitor hears Boro-fix-it on visiting any part of Ondo State, it is a reference to the senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Professor Roberts Ajayi Boroffice. A quick read on this personality will show a man with humble background. He started career as a university lecturer and rose to become acting Vice Chancellor; the highest level any lecturer can attain within the university system. He became Director-General of many federal agencies, which is the apogee attainable by civil servants, where he recorded landmark achievements of global attestations.
And a man presently serving in the highest legislative body in the country, the Nigerian Senate. While this piece isn’t designed to look at his antecedents as only volumes of books can address that, I will be restricted to writing about few instances that portray him as the most influential politician in the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, the platform upon which he has launched ambition to govern Ondo State.
Though, Boroffice claims not to be a professional politician, he has a political machinery in the state through which thousands of people have been empowered and gainfully employed. The political machinery has made it quite possible for a lot of people to articulate and accomplish their political ambitions. It is a viable vehicle that has transported people to executive destinations and aided the election of a number of persons who have been sworn in as parliamentarians at both the state and federal legislatures. With the strength and intimidating successes of the structure, only a naive politician will disagree that the structure holds the ace in the Ondo State chapter of the APC.
Some months ago, Boroffice was rumoured to have imposed the incumbent Minister of State for Niger Delta, Prof. Omoyele Daramola, as the minister representing Ondo State in the Federal Executive Council (FEC). At that time, it was clear the sponsors of the rumour were some leaders who crashed out from the ministerial race. Perhaps, they were deeply pained and decided to get at a perceived enemy. They must have forgotten that the President has prerogative powers to appoint whoever he likes to serve in ministerial capacity.
When the rumour hit town, I held and still hold the view that these guys might have appropriated more powers to the senator than he actually has. By the way, whether he indeed influenced the appointment of the minister or not is not what I can confirm. However, it is evidently clear that the senator and the minister belong to same political family and the duo share a cordial relationship that dates back many decades ago.
One will recall that after the failure of the defunct ACN in the 2012 Ondo State governorship contest, many party leaders including the party’s candidate deserted the state. In fact, some of the aspirants had fled before the day fixed for the poll. At about this time, the PDP-led state government, aided by security agencies, launched what appeared to be widespread attacks against members of the ACN. Party members were arrested on flimsy reasons, prominent party members were bullied, intimidated and attacked in their homes, and some persons were shot. Boroffice became the rallying point for venerable members of the party. He organised a summit for party members and encouraged them not to despair. At the summit, he preached hope and spoke glowingly about the future like a prophet. I believe party members are joyous that the same progressive coalition has formed the federal government barely 2 years after those trying period but he who stood by the party in those trying period, he who offered hope and support to despondent party members also deserves applause.
The crises which rocked the National Assembly after its inauguration on the 9th of June, 2015, offered another chance to mirror a senator who has unconditional loyalty to his party, the APC. He had options. Some were quite lucrative. But the actions of Senator Boroffice showed a reliable personality that the APC can trust through thick and thin. His actions have shown a firm believer in party supremacy in no small measures.
One must not fail to allude to the reality of his achievements as a senator. His interventions can be felt from the home front by his primary constituents and by extension, across Ondo State. In the areas of rural electrification, agriculture, education, health, industrial establishments and financial empowerments, his interventions are noble, impactful, people-oriented and landmarks. It is on record that the senator has sponsored the building of blocks of classrooms and toilet facilities in schools in his senatorial district and a gigantic school complex at Christ Pry School, Oka Akoko. He has built Skill Acquisition Centres in Ifon and Ikaram – Akoko. There is an ICT building at Iwaro – Oka, courtesy of the senator. He built an emergency Obstetrics care unit, Iboje – Oka. The hospital is christened emergency care unit, yet massive and magnificent. He has sponsored solar powered borehole at Arigidi and many others communities. He facilitated solar powered streetlights in Ido – Ani, Idogun, Oka – Akoko and other communities. He built Gari processing industry at Iboropa – Akoko and established Cashew nut processing factory in the zone. He has sponsored rural electrification and distributed transformers in many communities in Ose and Owo axis. He also supported farmers in Owo local government with seedlings and gave them financial empowerment. Artisans, hairdressers, vulcanisers and petty traders are not left out. They are beneficiaries of generators, grinding machines and financial supports from the senator. He has distributed scores of tricycles to constituents and empowered APC leaders, drivers and other beneficiaries with over 40 vehicles.
With this flawless, though incomplete, testimony on the impacts of a senator on his constituents, why many groups from Ondo South and Central are working for his election as governor should surprise nobody. It is simply decisions informed by the quest for development. Many people from other zones have confessed. They said if this man can make all these interventions without executive powers, he would make a good governor. I do not disagree. The multitude of delegates and groups that have endorsed his guber ambition are therefore on point.
His portray into politics has not been without controversies and challenges. After he joined the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in 2012, Governor Olusegun Mimiko deployed all his powers and political arsenal in a bid to declare the seat of the senator vacant. The rubber-stamp state legislature was manipulated to pass a motion to recall him from the Senate. As expected, it held no water beyond the fact that it made headlines in the newspapers. Still on same plot, principal lawmakers were offered bribes in hard currency but the purpose for which bribe was offered was frustrated by the highly-intelligent strategies and political networks of the senator. Lo and behold, he completely his term as a member of the 7th Senate.
One will also recall that when the senator had to dump his governorship ambition to support the governorship candidate of his party in 2012 due to the political exigencies of those times, Governor Mimiko, who was facing re-election campaign, reportedly gloated at his perceived misfortune and celebrated it at Government House.
In the 2015 general election, the machinery of the state government was practically relocated to Ondo North senatorial district. The agenda was simple and straightforward, the re-election bid of Senator Boroffice must be stopped. In the days preceding March 28, the easiest way to make money in Ondo State is to visit the goverment house and parade yourself as aggrieved supporter of the senator, you will not only be offered cash and sovernirs, you will also be honoured with gubernatorial handshakes and sometimes hugs. Not a few known persons exploitated the desperation of the government to make cool money in those days. At the end, the senator floored the governor and the candidate of the PDP at the poll because the governor actually contested the election.
While a fair and transparent primary election is non-negotiable, the party leaders and elders alike must be forthright. They are expected to guide the delegates of the party from repeating the mistakes of the past and also prevent graver mistake.
Without prejudice to politicians who defected to the APC after their party lost the presidential election, they cannot be trusted to implement the party manifestoes on education and industrial revolution. They cannot be trusted to adhere with party’s standards on probity and transparency because they might have only defected to the APC in the body while the soul belongs to the former party. With a history of unconditional loyalty to the party and unchanging commitment to the development of Ondo State and her people, Boroffice has the capacity to implement the agenda of change and progress in Ondo State.
In 2015, the man, Boroffice, severally hit airwaves and headlines as being considered for the position of vice presidential candidate of the APC. At the end of the process, a professor and devoted Christian like him, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was chosen. I believe Boroffice has paid his dues, it is time for the party to compensate a loyal party man. I agree with those groups that have been speaking out and telling whoever cares to listen that the APC can only win the forthcoming election if its best aspirant is presented as its flagbearer. As a threat to the status quo in Ondo State, I believe the senator is well positioned to lead the onslaught against PDP in Ondo State.

Ondo workers begin indefinite strike June 1
Civil Servants in Ondo State are to begin an indefinite strike action on Wednesday, June 1, to protest non-payment of over five months salary.
The strike notice is contained in a communiqué issued in Akure by the state Chairmen and Secretaries of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
It said that the decision followed an emergency meeting of the labour unions which reviewed the failure of the state government to pay the workers since January 2016.
“It has become unbearable that workers have not received salaries for the past five months at a stretch.
“That non-payment of salaries to workers have affected the wellbeing of workers/pensioners economically, socially, psychologically and health wise.
“That workers of Ondo State can no longer bear this situation, in view of the untold hardship suffered by these workers,” it added.
The unions, therefore, directed all civil servants in the state to remain at home beginning from June 1, until the government settles the salary arrears.
The communiqué was signed by the state NLC Chairman, Bose Daramola, NLC Secretary, Adewale Sanusi, JNC Chairman, Sunday Adeleye, his Secretary Akinlolu Oluwole, as well as TUC Chairman and Secretary Ekundayo Soladoye and Fatuase Clement, respectively.

APC alleges conversion of bailout funds to soft loans in Ondo
The All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo State has accused the state government of alleged diversion of the bailout funds as loans to members of NURTW, Artisans, market women in exchange for their voter’s cards.
The fund was initiated by the Federal Government to many states to settle outstanding workers’ salaries, allowances and pensions owed the people.
A statement by the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, said “we have uncovered a new strategy by Governor Olusegun Mimiko to hoodwink the people of Ondo State and to illegally acquire their voter’s cards under the guise of soft loans to certain groups of people and associations in the state.“These groups include: the National Union of Road, Transport Workers (NURTW), artisans, market women associations, the Okada Riders Association, Tipper union and others.
“Using his surrogates planted within these associations, the governor has started witch-hunting and intimidating members who refused to submit details and photocopy of their voter’s cards.“He has threatened to deregister and expel them as members of such association/group and that he will not allow them to function within the state.
“Mimiko’s plan is to give soft loans of between N60,000 to N100,000 to every member in exchange for their voter’s card ahead of the 2016 gubernatorial election in the state. He also promised any member with children of voting age an extra N100, 000, depending on the number of children. “This is obviously robbing Peter to pay Paul. He is robbing the workers in the state of their salaries to give loans to the artisans, NURTW, market women in exchange of their voter’s cards.
“We appeal to these groups/associations and the people of Ondo state not to fall for this evil plot by the Governor. Voter’s card or its information should not be released to anybody or government agents as pre condition or license loan. Doing so will amount to selling their future and that of their children.
“We challenge Ondo State Police command, Directorate of State Security, Ondo State command, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the State to quickly investigate this matter and unravel the government agents behind this dastardly act and bring them to book.” -

Tanker explosion kills two in Ondo
Two persons Thursday lost their lives at Ofosu community along Ore-Benin expressway in Ondo state following an explosion of a tanker, which was carrying 33,000 litres of diesel.
The two victims, which were the driver and one other person who was in the vehicle were burnt beyond recognition.
The third occupants also sustained severe injuries and he is presently receiving treatment at General Hospital in Ore.
Eyewitnesses, who said the incident occurred around 2pm, accused the tanker driver of driving recklessly.
The tanker was said to have ran into a ditch and spilled its content before bursting into flames.
The accident however caused gridlock on the ever busy road for more than two hours as motorists were stranded on the road until some residents of the area came out to put off the inferno which lasted for over two hours.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, said the tanker was coming from Ore, heading towards Benin when the accident occurred in Ofosu, around Levante Company.
He said” the truck was coming from Ore on its way to Benin and when it got to an area called Levante, the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle and the tanker laden with diesel tumbled and subsequently caught fire while the driver and one person with him, were burnt beyond recognition and the third person who was injured was taken to hospital for treatment.
“All efforts to put off the fire did not work and this caused traffic delay on the road for more than two hours but our men are on ground to clear the wreckages from the road to allow free flow of traffic on the road.”
