  • Bamidele returns from United States after medical treatment

…Says APC victory in governorship election will be icing of the cake.

Stalwart of All Peoples Congress (APC) Opeyemi Bamidele on Thursday returned from the United States after his medical treatment.

He said he was grateful to God for saving his life after the stray bullets that hit him in the build up to Ekiti State governorship election.

Bamidele said he was not only excited over the victory of governor elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, but that people of the state will have a better deal.

He , however, said the victory of APC in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election will be the icing of the cake for the ruling party.

Speaking on arrival at the international wing of the Lagos Airport, Bamidele said he was grateful to political associates, friends and associates that paid for and facilitated his trip for treatment abroad after the unfortunate incident in Ekiti.

Bamidele in a few days, he will address the nation to share his thoughts on the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration

Besides, the victory of the APC in Ekiti, Bamidele said re-electing the party in Osun will pave the way for the journey ahead for the 2019 presidential election.

Bamidele said: “I am happy to be back home, and I want to express gratitude to God and my family, friends and associates that have shown love to me during the period of my trial after the unfortunate incident.

“I am very grateful to the people of Nigeria and Lagos State for the love they have shown , even the sons and daughters of Ekiti State, they have all be wonderful.

“What is important today is to give glory to God, and to thank all the people that God used to pay for my hospital bills, to fly me out of Nigeria, visit me in London and the United States and to ensure that get the best rest and treatment.

“I am happy I am back on my feet, I did not come back on any wheel chair, I am happy I did not come back on a stretcher, glory to God. For me, it is a new season, it is a new beginning.”

He went on: “Well before the 2019 election, we have one major election ahead of us, which is the governorship election in Osun State. By the grace of God, APC will be re- elected in Osun State.

APC, being re- elected back in Osun State will be the icing of the cake to the victory that God gave us in Ekiti State. From then, we can face 2019.

“For me, it is a very straight turf, it is a clear vision, and the understanding all of us must have is that President Buhari may not have done, what he did in the last few years if not for corruption fighting back, most of the things, we are seeing in the country now is organized response by who felt Buhari administration has not allowed them to do what we have known them for in this country.

” Nigerians need to be resolute in their bid to re- elect Buhari at the centre in 2019.It will be the new beginning of all the things , he has done in the last years, and Nigerians will be happy for it.”

On his thoughts on the re- election of Fayemi , he said : ” I was part of the election campaign of Fayemi as the director general of the support campaign group, despite tghe unfortunate incident, i continue to campaign for him in my sick hospital bed.

“Ultimately, I am grateful to God and the people of Ekiti State for giving the APC victory. I have no doubt that Dr Fayemi of today different. Most of the fear that people had should be a thing of the past, Ekiti people are in for a new deal, a better deal under the administration of Fayemi and the APC.

    “The success story continues.”

On speculations that he was gunning for the Senate seat in the state, Bamidele said he has always left everything in God’s hands.

He said: “In my life and political career, I have always left everything in God’s hands. Within the next few days, I will address the nation on the things that God is calling me to do , as the next step of my political journey.”

  • Fayemi visits Bamidele in London

Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has paid a get-well visit to the Director General of his Campaign Council, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele in London, United Kingdom.
Bamidele was shot on June 1 by a trigger-happy policeman at the premises of the All Progress Congress (APC) during a welcome rally organised for Fayemi after stepping down from the Federal Executive Council  (FEC) as Minister of Mines and Steel Development.
The former House of Representatives member was rushed to the State University Teaching Hospital where he was operated upon and stabilised before being flown abroad to recuperate.
Bamidele who has been discharged from the hospital is still in London as an outpatient.
In a statement on Thursday night by his media aide, Ahmed Salami, Fayemi who left Ado-Ekiti for Lagos immediately after inaugurating his Transition Committee arrived London earlier in the day to pay Bamidele a morale-boosting visit.
The statement said Fayemi spent quality time with Bamidele, his wife, Mrs. Yemisi Bamidele, and other members of the family, Mr. Abiodun Bamidele and Mrs. Folasade Bamidele.
Fayemi and Bamidele also reviewed issues regarding the fiercely contested July 14 governorship election.
The reunion sparked up celebration of victory and praise and worship  sessions from the two eminent Ekiti leaders.
  • Ekiti 2018: Oni, Others Working For Fayemi’s Victory, says Bamidele

The Director General of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organization, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) entertain no fear about the victory of its candidate in the July 14 governorship poll.

Bamidele said he has implicit confidence in the leadership of the party in Ekiti State, including former governor Segun Oni and his group working for Fayemi to make the victory a resounding and collective one.

The Director General said these in a statement from his office and signed by his Media Aide, Ahmed Salami in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Recently, Former Governor Oni was linked to a litigation purportedly filed in Abuja seeking the nullification of Fayemi’s victory in the party’s primary on account of his refusal to resign as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Commenting on the event that has been eliciting ripples in APC, Bamidele said he has no reason to doubt Oni and his commitment to Fayemi’s victory in this election.

He said the PDP had also spread the rumour that the APC had been dealing with those who defected to the APC, including former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and others with caution, suspicion and restraint, describing this as a lie from the pit of hell coming from demented minds.

“We are not ruling out the possibility of people having some ill-feelings about certain issues in our party, but that should not degenerate to the level where people can act as fifth columnists in their own party.

“Ekiti APC can’t be immuned from crisis just like every other parties because we have diverse backgrounds and our temperaments differ in the way we handle issues. Let me say this, the doors of the party are wide open to entertain complaints and trash them in the interest of everybody.

“This is not the time to suspect anyone unduly. We should see ourselves as one big family and prevent anyone from hiding under social media to break our ranks.

“As the leader of Fayemi’s campaign for this election, we are ready to work with everybody and urge the leaders of all committees working within our campaign structures to be receptive to everybody and refrain from act that can lead to rancor and polarization before this election.

“Dr Fayemi in his address after clinching the party’s ticket displayed humility by openly expressed his readiness to work with all groups. He later visited other 32 co-contestants for the ticket and this prevented the widely envisaged defections of bigwigs in APC.

“We are not going into this race with divided mind. We are going into this election to win and we are rest assured that all our members will contribute to this victory.

Bamidele told Adeyeye, who facilitated the defections of the PDP members to APC that their rights would be protected and there won’t be any form of discrimination against them.

“We have no reason to be suspecting these men who decided to join the APC’s moving train, because our party is receptive and we have constitution that guarantees safety for all members.

“There is no class differences in APC, you can only get that in  PDP and that was why the party had always been in perpetual crisis. Our party has respect for everybody, regardless of whether you are old or new members”, he added.

  • Akeredolu to Fayose: You can’t stop us from coming to Ekiti

Ondo State government on Tuesday criticised the statement credited to Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose through his Media aide, Lere Olayinka, castigating Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Fayose had alleged that Akeredolu brought no fewer than 150 policemen to Ado-Ekiti last Friday to instigate the gun attack in which about four persons, including an APC chieftain, Opeyemi Bamidele, were injured.

He equally repeated the accusation that Akeredolu had planned to use Ondo State’s two months’ allocation to fund the electioneering of the APC governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

A statement by the Ondo state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Yemi Olowolabi said” Ordinarily, we would have ignored all the deliberate lies and falsehood, but we felt that we would not be fair to the unsuspecting larger members of the public if such lies were not debunked.

“For the information of the doubters, Governor Akeredolu, even if provoked, cannot debase his personality to a level that he will sacrifice the interests of his people for pecuniary gains.

“Instead of engaging in hypocritical activities like eating at motor parks and cutting ponmo at the market square, Akeredolu is currently applying the public resources for the betterment of the lives of the people of the state.

“So, it is interesting to state that Ondo is witnessing massive infrastructural development in all sectors of the state. On Monday at the state executive council meeting, a number of projects were approved for execution. That’s how development is moving in Ondo State.

“Governor Fayose and his boy should be reminded that the Akeredolu led administration has performed creditably well in the last one year and few months.

“On the Friday’s gun attack in Ekiti, we would like to refer Fayose to a statement by the Ekiti State police spokesperson, Caleb Okechukwu, cleared the air on the issue. Investigation by the police had revealed that the shooter was a police officer brought from Lagos by an Ekiti politician.

‘For this revelation, we believe that the Ekiti governor and his cohorts will now bury their heads in shame.

“We, therefore, call the security agencies in the country to take note of the false accusation leveled against Akeredolu by Fayose and his town crier, who only a few years ago wrote a detailed report about the devious activities of his master.

“It is also important for Lere and his boss to know one very important fact, that unlike his boss, we are committed to the progress and peaceful co-existence between the state and Ekiti. I mean, aren’t we one before October, 1996? The seed of discord Fayose is trying to plant between the
two states will not germinate no matter how much cunning he is.

“We will love to state here categorically without mincing words that Governor Akeredolu reserves every right to show support for the candidate of his party in Ekiti state, just as Governor Nysom Wike and the rest are showing support for the PDP in the state.

“There is no law that prohibits that Fayose and the PDP are making issues out of this because of the smell of defeat that has overwhelmed them.

“Fayose also tried to rewrite the sad incident that occurred on Friday, claiming that the tear gas canisters that hit a taxi driver were fired by the policemen that accompanied the thugs from Akure.

Residents of Ekiti and those who were present during the incident knew that the pandemonium that greeted the shooting at the APC secretariat necessitated the tear gas canisters fired by the policemen.

“Please note that the Policemen who fired the tear gas canisters were duly drafted to the secretariat by the Ekiti state police command to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
On several occasions, we have come out straight to debunk the lies of Lere and his boss over an alleged statement made by Governor Akeredolu that he was ready to use two months allocations from his state for Fayemi’s election.

“But again, such lies can only be told by people of low esteem. As we speak, the workers’ friendly governor in Ondo state has paid the May salary of workers. We are not owning a dime.

“And unlike Governor Fayose who is owing the state workers between seven and eight months’ salary arrears, Akeredolu has paid up to date and also cleared four out of seven months backlog of salary inherited from the immediate past administration in the state”.

The statement pointed out that Ekiti election is July 14, and Akeredolu has paid May salary with the allocation for May,but Ekiti state government is still pushing the story of the governor planning to use two months allocation to pursue Ekiti election.

It added; “For the records, Akeredolu has recorded landmark achievements in the last 15 months of his administration in Ondo state. Fayose and Lere should take a ride to Akure and see what Akeredolu has done at Iwalewa and Abusoro. Or better still, Fayose should take a trip to the whole of Ondo State and see projects.

Projects like construction of Iwalewa Road, Akure, Construction of Sabomi Road, Ese Odo, Construction of Abusoro, Ijoka Road, Akure, Construction of Opasorun road, Bajare/Okemayo, Construction of St. Joseph Road in Idanre, Construction of 3 box culverts at Oyinmomo  Ishakunmi and Megida Rental Road , Ikare.

Others are Construction of Jubilee – Ugbe Road, Ikare, Construction of Oke Alafia Road, Supare,  Construction of Ogbomo Ifedara, Ajegunle Streets and Howlet Road, Ifon,  Construction of Ilara Mokin /Ikota, otherwise known as Gulf C road, Ilara, Construction of Police Road, Ore,  Construction of Virgin road network within GRA to Prison, Owo, Construction of internal and access roads within the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) Okitipupa, Rehabilitation of the deadly Iwaro Oka hill and the
ongoing work at the notorious Oke Alabujoto in Ikare Akoko are there to mention  a few.

“Fayose and his boy also attempted to drag Governor Akeredolu into the attack by the herdsmen on Chief Olu Falae’s farm. What we don’t understand is whether Fayose understood what he was saying and the import of his statement.

“Akeredolu sympathized with Chief Falae over the attack and also issued a strong warning to Herdsmen to vacate the state. No single incident has been heard since them. We are aware that same herdsmen kidnapped Chief Falae under the PDP administration in the state.

“He, who comes to equity, must come with clean hands. We want to urge Nigerians to disregard the blatant lies being spread around by Fayose and his attack dog, Lere.

“Today in Ekiti, politics has been turned into a do or die affair by Fayose. His only strategy is lying and concocted stories. We are therefore, advising him and his cronies to go and prepare for the election”.

The statement emphasised that thousands of Fayose cannot stop Akeredolu and other APC governors from coming to campaign in Ekiti state.

  • Bamidele’s shooting: EKSUTH rejects claim of lack of equipment

The management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) has faulted the claim that former House of Representatives member,
Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, was moved to Lagos for further treatment because the hospital lacks required equipment.
The Chief Medical Director, Dr. Kolawole Ogundipe, faulted the statement credited to Bamidele’s media aide, Ahmed Salami.
Ogundipe in a statement signed by EKSUTH Head of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Rolake Adewumi, on Monday described the allegation of inadequate equipment at EKSUTH as “unfortunate and derogatory.”
Ogundipe said Salami supposed to have stated the true story instead of maligning the image of the hospital that rose to occasion to save the lives of his boss and other victims of the shooting.
The EKSUTH boss, noted that the story was ill motivated, full of ingratitude and a deliberate falsehood directed at smearing the image
    of the hospital.
According to him, the decision to move Hon. Bamidele by the family was based on social reason only and not due to dearth of any equipment or personnel as Salami falsely stated.
The CMD added that the treatment and attention given to Hon.  Bamidele and other victims by Medical experts in the Hospital was in accordance with the world best practices in the Medical Profession.
He pointed out that EKSUTH has received accreditation of both the West African and National Post graduate Medical Colleges in virtually all the departments.
Adding that the hospital even recorded one Hundred percent success rate at the just concluded Part One examination in the Department of Surgery of the National Postgraduate Medical College held in May 2018.
But Salami in another statement on Monday said Bamidele did not show ingratitude to EKSUTH saying the alleged dearth of equipment was made in good faith and not to malign the hospital.
Salami said: “The position I maintained that there was dearth of equipment and personnel in the course of treating Bamidele’s gunshot wounds was made in good faith and not intended to neither denigrate nor impugn on the integrity of the hospital.
“I want to restate that our position and that of the APC political family remains that the EKSUTH’s doctors did excellently well within
the limit of the available facilities and Bamidele shall eternally grateful for their proficiency and candour in saving his life.
“As much as we align with the CMD’s well expatiated position that social reason accounted for why Hon Bamidele was moved to Lagos for further treatments, it is our humble position that he needed more sophisticated facilities for post surgery recuperation.
“Our position on my principal’s movement to Lagos could have been needless, but for online postings by some interested individuals
painting a hopeless and lugubrious pictures of his health status that had stabilized shortly after he was brought into EKSUTH drenched in blood and in critical condition.
“We even stated shortly after he was relocated that he had stabilized and this further accentuated our beliefs and profound appreciation of the expertise of the doctors at EKSUTH.
“We want to restate that our position shouldn’t be misinterpreted to mean a desecration of the tertiary health institution as we hold the facility in high esteem.”
  • Police dismiss cop who shot Bamidele, five other APC Members

    … To face trial soon

The Police have dismissed the trigger-happy mobile policeman who shot former House of Representatives member, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele and five other party faithful on Friday.

The culprit whose name was yet to be revealed opened fire at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat last Friday at the welcome rally held for the governorship flag bearer, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Bamidele and five other injured party members were hospitalized but the former federal lawmaker has been relocated to Lagos for post-surgery treatment.

The officer was battered by angry party members who smashed his head, inflicted injuries on him and dispossessed him of his service rifle.

Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Bello Ahmed, disclosed on Monday that the mobile policeman has been dismissed from service to pave the way for his trial in court as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.

The police boss who spoke on a live programme on Channels Television disclosed that the politician who brought the policeman to Ekiti State from his Lagos base has been detained and he is being grilled by interrogators.

Ahmed said the politician will also be arraigned in court as soon as the Police conclude their investigation into the shooting incident.

He said: “The policeman involved is dismissed already and even though he’s nursing some injury.

“At the appropriate time, he will face the law of course. Nigerians will be briefed on the outcome of our actions.”

Ahmed also spoke on the readiness of the command to regulate the activities of political parties to prevent violence and other acts that could lead to breakdown of law and order.

Part of the measures, according to him, was the deployment of armed policemen from neighbouring states which he said would be a continuous exercise as election approaches.

He added: “We have robust arrangement to regulate and observe these political activities as they unfold in Ekiti State, in fact in the entire state.

“We just got a robust deployment of mobile policemen and that will be increased as the campaigns are progressing.

“You know what is on the ground will determine what will be done. If the satiation on ground dictates we behave otherwise, we will do provided it is within the confines of the law.

“This morning (Monday) I’ll be having a meeting with all the political parties’ chairmen. We have programmes for them.

“We are going to regulate every inch of activity in the state. We will not sit down and tolerate any act of lawlessness, whoever is involved.

“The police, we are willing, competent to take action against any group or persons, either individual or groups as far this campaign is concerned.”

Meanwhile, political parties have promised to rein in their members and maintain peace before, during and after the July 14 poll.

They gave the commitment at a meeting held with the Police Commissioner, Bello Ahmed, at the state police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.

Ekiti State APC Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe, described the meeting as a fruitful deliberation, saying the police boss spoke frankly and expressed his feelings about the comportment of political parties.

“The police boss spoke frankly and he told us to warn our supporters to respect the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act and this we have to do in the interest of our dear state.

“We want to rule over living and not dead people, so we need to exercise restraint in the way we conduct ourselves”.

The PDP Chairman, Chief Gboyega Oguntuase, said what the police boss preached at the meeting was civility and decorum from all political parties, which he assured his party will comply with.

“As much as we believe in this, he must also not be unaware of something, you can’t rig election and be expecting decorum.

“What our people will resist is corruption and rigging and once the police and other security agencies are ready to be neutral, then there will be peace”.

National Democratic Liberty Party (NDLP) Chairman, Mr. Ifedayo Iyaniwura, said parties urged the CP to ensure security at the poll in which 35 parties will participate unlike the 18 that took part in the 2014 poll.

Speaking at the forum, Ahmed said the command won’t fold its arms and allow people to breach the 1999 constitution and the Electoral Act in the name of election.

He said the meeting convened for stakeholders to brainstorm on how to ensure peaceful conduct of the coming governorship election and that the riot act has been read to them to serve as a guided principle.

The Police boss assured that his men will be neutral in the July 14 election and won’t do anything that would make them look as if they were working for a certain political party.

“What I want from men is professionalism. We are going to be guided by the instrumentality of the law, because this election is going to be a different ball game”.

On the deployment of more anti-riot policemen to Ekiti since last week, Ahmed said:  “You know what is on the ground will determine what will be done. If the satiation on ground dictates we behave otherwise, we will do provided it is within the confines of the law.

“We are going to regulate every inch of activity in the state. We will not sit down and tolerate any act of lawlessness, whoever is involved.

“The police, we are willing, competent to take action against any group or persons, either individual or groups as far this campaign is concerned.”

  • Ekiti Shooting: Bamidele in stable condition

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, is now in stable condition after he was shot by a policeman on Friday.

The Mobile Policeman (MOPOL) shot Bamidele and five other All Progressives Congress (APC) members at the party secretariat in Ado-Ekiti at the governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his entourage were leaving the place.

Fayemi, his wife, Bisi, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and other senior party figures escaped death in the shooting incident.

But an aide to Bamidele, Ahmed Salami, said in a WhatsApp post that his boss is now in a stable condition.

“He is in a stable condition.”

  • Opeyemi Bamidele, two others shot at reception for Fayemi

Fayemi, his wife, Bisi Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, deputy governorship candidate, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi escaped being shot.
A yet-to-be identified Mobile Policeman (MOPOL) fired shots which hit a former House of Representatives member, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele and two others.
One of those who was hit by the bullet was feared dead, but the trigger-happy cop was disarmed by angry party members and beaten up.
Shooting happened at about 5.00 pm
