  • Woman in court for gripping, squeezing manhood

    A 31-year- old woman identified as Jennifer Ola has been arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate court for gripping and squeezing the manhood of one Luis Adjuya.

    Jennifer was said to committed the offence alongside one Israel Idowu, aged 29.

    Both were said to have committed offence on March 29, 2019 at No 8 Akali Street off Ekenwan Road, Bénin City.

    Israel was accused of assaulting Luis with fist blows.

    They both pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

    Police Prosecutor, Inspector Shaibu Mohammed, told the court the offences are punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code cap 48 vol II Laws of the defunct Bendel State now applicable in Edo State.

    Presiding Magistrate, J. O Uwushiren, granted them bail to the sum of N100, 000 each and a surety in like sum who must gain fully employed.

    The case was adjourned to April 15, 2019 for hearing.

     

     

  • How I caught my wife with my pastor, husband tells court

    A 35-year old man, Mr, Paul Nosakhare, has told an Oredo Magistrate Court of how he caught his newly married wife, Stella Maris Alegbe, with his Pastor, Joseph Igwemoh, Head of the Global Influence Ministry.

    Pastor Igwemoh was last year arraigned on two count charges bothering on abduction and act likely to cause breach of peace was accused of sleeping with Stella inside his church.

    At the resumed hearing of the case, Paul, during cross examination told the court he served as an Assistant Pastor to the suspect before the sexual scandal broke out.

    Paul said he met Stella through Pastor Igwemoh and they courted for four years before they got married on March 24, 2018.

    He said marriage lasted only three months as his wife moved out in July after the Pastor rented an apartment for her.

    He stated that Pastor Igwemoh warned them not to have sexual intercourse until proper marriage is done while they were courting.

    Paul said his wife denied him sex on the first and second night of their wedding which was conducted by Igwemoh.

    According to his statement on oath before the court: ”I reported my wife refusal for me to have sex with her to my pastor who invited us to his office and advised both of us to be using condom for the period of three months.

    “I was puzzled but I did not say anything because he is my pastor.

    “There was a day I returned Pastor’s car to him in the church. I met one Pastor Comfort who told me Pastor was inside the office. After knocking severally, the Pastor refused to open the door but he switched off the light.

    “After five minutes, I saw my wife coming out of Pastor’s office ruffled and sweating profusely. Pastor came out of the office and was wearing boxers and singlet.

    “On June 17th, I went to the Pastor’s office and met my wife. The pastor was lying down in the bed while my wife was sitting on the floor very close to the Pastor.

    “I asked my wife to follow me home but she refused saying she has not finished with the pastor. She returned home at 7pm.”

    Paul said all efforts for him to make the marriage work failed as his wife moved out on July 6th, 2018.

    Presiding Magistrate, I.U. Iyioha adjourned further hearing to March 21, 2019.

  • Pastor docked for abducting, sleeping with married woman

    A 34-year old Pastor of the Global Influence Ministry, Mr. Joseph Igwemoh, has been arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate Court for alleged abduction and having carnal knowledge of a married woman identified as Stella George.

    The woman is said to be a chorister in his church and it was Pastor Igwemon that wedded her to her husband, Mr. Paul Nosakhare.

    Pastor Igwemon who was arraigned on charges bothering on abduction and act likely to cause breach of peace was accused of sleeping with Stella inside his church.

    He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    According to the charges, “That you Pastor Joseph Igwemon on the 15th day of October, 2018 at about 1200 hours in your church, Global Influence Ministry at No 16 Owosenj Street, off Mission Road did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by having carnal knowledge of one Stella George who is a chorister in your church having wedded her and her husband one Paul Nosakhare and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo State.

    “That you Pastor Joseph Igwemon on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial district did abduct one Mrs. Stella George by keeping her in your house for months knowing that she is married and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 361 of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo State.”

    Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Isi Ukhun Iyoha, granted the Pastor bail in the sum of N200, 000 and a surety in like sum who must be again fully employed.

    The case was adjourned to November 29, 2018 for definite hearing.

  • Man arraigned for stealing N330,000 copper

    A 23-year old man identified as Umaru Mohammed has been arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate Court for copper wires worth N330, 000 after vandalising a transformer belonging to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

    Umaru was said to have committed the offense on June 29, 2018, around Ogbe-Ibuya quarters in Bénin City.

    He however pleaded not guilty to the two count charges preferred against him.

    Police Prosecutor, Inspector David Akigbe, informed the court that the offence are punishable under section 516 and section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap Vol. II of the defunct Bendel State laws as applicable in Edo.

    Counsel to the accused, Mr P. A. Ugheoke, applied for bail and for a proof of the evidence to be made available at the next adjourn date.

    Presiding Magistrate V. E. Oyekpen led granted the accused bail to the sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum.

    She subsequently adjourned the case to July 31 for hearing.

  • Man jailed for stealing tin tomatoes

     

    A 32-year old man identified as Austine Ibe has been jailed by an Oredo Magistrate Court to two years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing 75 cartons of tin tomatoes valued at N315,600.

    Austine was said to have committed the offence on October 14, 2017 at No 4 Butcher Street off Forestry Road Benin City.

    The tin tomatoes were said to have been stored at a warehouse belonging to one Paul Okafor.

    Austine was arraigned on a two-count charge bothering on stealing and break-in and entry.

    He was found guilty on guilty on both charges by the presiding Magistrate, F.E Akhere.

    Prosecuting Council, DSP Patrick Agbonifo, had earlier informed the court that the offenders were punishable under sections 414(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code 48 Vol II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976 now applicable in Edo State.

    Magistrate Akhere sentenced Austine to two years imprisonment without an option of fine.

  • Three arraigned for assaulting two sisters 

    Three arraigned for assaulting two sisters 

    Three men identified as Olaye Daniel, Arogho Odion and Patrick Aleakhue have been arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate Court sitting in Benin City for allegedly using broken bottle to inflict injuries on two sisters; Ynonne Justice and Peace Justice at a bar house.

    The accused persons were alleged to have stolen gold necklace, earrings and hand chain valued at N1.4 million belonging to the complainants.

    They pleaded not guilty to the three count charges bordering on assault, threat to life and theft.

    Police Prosecutor, Patrick Agbonifo, told the court the offences were committed at No. 20 Oghosa Crescent, off Ihama Road, GRA Benin City.

    Agbonifo said the alleged crimes contravened section 355, 86(1) and 390 of the Criminal Code cap. Vol. II laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo State.

    Presiding Magistrate, F. E Akhere, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.

    He adjourned the case to October 23 for hearing.

    Man jailed for fraud in Edo

    A 33-year old man identified as Musa Baba has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for defrauding one Moses Achebe.

     

    The convict, who was jailed by an Oredo Magistrate Court, was said to have defrauded his victim the sum of N140,000.

     

    Police Prosecutor, A.O. Enababor, informed the Court that the accused committed the crime between August 18 and 31, 2015 by presenting himself as an employee of the Nigerian Army to sign army guarantor form.

     

    Enababor said defrauded his victim by obtaining the sum of N140, 000 under the pretence that he would help him secure employment into the Nigeria Army.

     

    He said the offence contravened section 108 and 419 of the criminal Code.

     

    Presiding Magistrates, Mrs M.C. Ojobo, found the accused guilty on both the two count charges preferred against him. 

     

    Ojobo convicted Musa to 12 months imprisonment of an option of N100, 000 fine in each of the count.

     

  • Man defecates in court to evade trial 

    An 18-year old man identified as Abdullahi Mohammend Tuesday caused a stir at the Oredo Magistrate Court when he defecated on his body shortly before he was to be arraigned.

    Abdullahi who was accused of stealing four cartons of powder milk belonging to one Favour Nwachukwu was brought to the court by some policemen led by Sergeant Aigbochie Iruonagbe.

    After defecating on his body, he started walking around the court premises even while policemen that brought him looked for alternative clothes for him.

    Despite being handcuffed, Abdullahi took off his trousers and took to his heels but policemen caught up with him.

    The policemen later bought a bag of sachet water to clean him up and gave him some clothes to wear.

    The prosecutor, Inspector Thomas OJo, told the court during arraignment that the offence was committed on October 8, at Mission Road in Benin City.

    The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

    Presiding Magistrate, J. O Ejale adjourned the case to October 14 for hearing and ruling but remanded the suspect to prison custody.

    Police arraign job racketeer in Edo

    A 40-year old man identified as Gideon Arinze, has been arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining N120,000 from one Tony Iwamal on the pretense of giving him a job.

    The suspect was alleged to have promised to secure a job with a shipping firm for his victim but failed to do so.

    Police prosecutor, Inspector Thomas Ojo said the offence was committed on November along Mission Road in Benin City.

    Ojo said that the offence contravened sections 419, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code

    The accused person pleaded not guilty to the two count charges filed against him.

    Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joyce Ejale granted the accused person to bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum who must be gainfully employed and resident in Benin with N100, 000 in like sum.

    The case was adjourned to September 2 for hearing.
