    It was a shocking moment at Orlu local government area of Imo state as the entire area was completely deserted by voters while a few staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who courageously reported to duty became idle and confused as the expected registered voters for the exercise stayed away.

    At Central School 1, Umunna, Orlu only 23 accredited voters had voted out of 391 registered voters.

    Polling Officer who gave his name simply as Obi said only 23 accredited voters had voted out of 391 registered voters.

    He said: “The election is peaceful but people are not coming out to vote and that is the only challenge.”

    An army officer, Cletus C in the area, said that INEC and the press did not do enough to educate the public about the need to come out and vote.

    Voting was disrupted at Uzuna Umu ward 1, booth 008 at Mgbidi in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State as a result of the fight.

    A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Joseph Ikpubundu from the area alleged the fight was caused by supporters of PDP who opposed the alleged vote buying by APC.

    He alleged each voter was given N2,000 before casting their votes.

    Imo monarch denies hijacking Orlu LG electoral materials

    The chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Emmanuel Okeke has denied diverting electoral materials for the Orlu local government area of the state to his palace.

    Okeke was reacting to the allegations that he and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) hijacked and diverted electoral materials belonging to seven wards in the area to his palace.

    But reacting to the allegation, Okeke said there was nothing of such going on in his palace.

    While expressing surprise at the allegations, the monarch invited newsmen to visit his palace to ascertain the true situation.

    Also, the Labour Party agents have accused the APC of diverting electoral containers gathered at the Okigwe stadium and moving them to the local government secretariat in Okigwe where no other agent is allowed in except the APC.

    However, the spokesperson of the APC in the state, Cajetan Duke, said that he could not ascertain the authenticity of the allegations, but insisted that opposition members rather than concentrate on the election, had been busy making wild allegations.

    He added that the party did not have the capacity to be involved in any electoral crime.
