    Edo: Prophet remanded for defiling daughter 

    An Ogbeson Magistrate Court has remanded one Prophet Benjamin Bernard to prison custody for allegedly defiling his seven years old daughter.

    Prophet Benjamin, aged 41, is one of the presiding pastors of Destiny Explosion Ministry located in Benin City.

    He was alleged to have committed the incest on 26th January 2016.

    The victim was his third daughter

    Prophet Benjamin pleaded not guilty to the offence. 

    The victim during her testimony by the prosecuting Counsel from the state Ministry of Justice, Kenneth Ugiagbe, told the court that her father used a white handkerchief to clean her private part after committing the act.

    She said her father warned her not to mention the act to anyone or he would kill her. 

    Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Taye Omoruyi ordered the accused remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to March 16 for further hearing.

    Police hunt driver, conductor over woman’s death

    Men of the Edo State Police Command are currently hunting for a commercial bus driver and his conductor over last Saturday’s killing of a 51-year old woman during an argument over N20 change.

    Witnesses said the woman collapsed after she was hit on the chest with a spanner by the bus conductor and the driver was forced to take her to the hospital.

    Her corpse was later found dumped along the road in the morning by family members.

    The woman who was identified as Helen Ero was a trader at New Benin Market and had boarded a bus going to Oluku at about 8:00pm.

    She was said to have paid for two girls inside the bus before an argument ensued between her and the conductor.

    Edo Police spokesman, Osifo Abiodun, said the police had intensified efforts to arrest the suspects.

    He said intelligence officers had been deployed to nab the suspects.

    The Chairman of the Drivers’ Welfare Association at the Ugbowo axis, Comrade Jude Anormhen, said they are working with the police to arrest the suspect.

  • Man arraigned for defiling minor in Edo

    A 40-year old man, Johnbull Omoike, has been arraigned before an Egor Magistrate Court for allegedly defiling an eight-year old girl.

    Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Lucky, told the court that the offence was committed at Uwelu Street in Egor local government area of the state.

    Sergeant Sunday said the offence was punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal a Code.

    Johnbull was said to have committed the offence at the residence of the victim’s father.

    He was however granted bail in the sum of N200,000 or a surety in like sum who must be a level nine civil servant.

    Presiding Magistrate, P.E Akhere, adjourned the case to September 9 for hearing.

    Policeman dismissed for ‘killing’ two women in Edo

    A police corporal identified as Ali Christopher has been dismissed from active service for accidentally killing two nursing mothers at a funeral in Fugar town, administrative headquarters of Etsako Central local government area of Edo State.

    Ali was dismissed after he was found culpable in an orderly room trial conducted by the state police command.

    The Spokesman for the state police command, Stephen Onwochei, who disclosed this in a chat with journalists, said two police officers were arrested and at the end of investigations, one of them was found wanting.

    “That person has been tried in orderly room. He is a corporal and as I speak to you, he has been dismissed.

    “Hopefully by next week (this week) he will appear in court. Police officers should be guided by Force Order 237 which spells out the use of arms by officers.”

    It would be recalled that two nursing mothers were killed at a funeral by a stray bullet in Ivhiokhile quarters in Fugar.

    A two-month-old baby strapped to the back of one of the victim narrowly escaped being hit by bullet.

  • Man kills wife hours before twins’ naming ceremony

    Tragedy recently struck a couple who was preparing for the naming ceremony of their twins, as the wife, identified as Osarumwense was reportedly killed, by her husband.

    The incident was said to have occurred as a result of an argument on when the deceased mother should breastfeed the babies. Witnesses said the couple celebrated the birth of the twins last week Sunday and was preparing for the naming ceremony when the tragedy occurred. It was gathered that the husband, Endurance Enadeba, hit the wife on the head with an object which resulted in to her death. Enadeba had insisted that the wife breastfed the crying babies, with the latter insisting that she needed to urinate first. As a result, the husband approached the urinating wife and a fracas ensued, which led to him hitting the wife on the head.

    Father of the deceased who gave his name as Eghenayayore was seen weeping and cursing profusely over the corpse, while lamenting that his daughter had called to inform him of the incident, but died before she could be rushed to the hospital. He disclosed that the husband, Enadeba, fled immediately the wife collapsed.

    According to him, “He killed my daughter because of breastfeeding the twins. The twins are at home now, who will give them breatsmilk? Why did he kill my young daughter. This girl was born in 1996. We were preparing to name the babies tomorrow because it was their first issue.”

    Police spokesman, DSP Moses Eguavoen, confirmed the incident. He said the husband has been arrested from his hide-out.
