Ose youth urges IGP to investigate alleged police killing of two in Ondo

The Ose Youth Development Forum has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to launch a thorough investigation into the alleged killing of two youths by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Ifon Division Headquarters, in Ondo State.

In a statement issued on Monday, the forum’s president, Adekanmbi Olawole Nelson, condemned the incident, describing it as a gross violation of human rights and a threat to national security.

According to the statement, two young men were arrested and allegedly tortured by the police. One of them died while being transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, while the other remains hospitalized.

“The killing of innocent youth is not only a tragedy but also erodes trust and confidence in the police force, which is supposed to protect and serve the citizens,” Nelson stated.

The forum urged the IGP to take immediate action by investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest, including the complainant’s report; identifying the statements of both the complainant and the accused; bringing the perpetrators to justice; providing compensation and support to the victims’ families and implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The statement read: “On behalf of the Ose Youth Development Forum, I am writing to express my condemnation and outrage over the recent killings of our youth (two) by men of the Nigeria Police Force, Ifon Division Headquarters. This heinous act is unacceptable and a gross violation of human rights.

“The killing of innocent youth is not only a tragedy but also a threat to national security and stability. It erodes trust and confidence in the police force, which is supposed to protect and serve the citizens.”

The group also called on the Ondo State Government and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to intervene and ensure justice is served.

“The youths of Ose Local Government and all Nigerians deserve to live without fear of extrajudicial killings and police brutality,” the statement added.
