CCC group commemorates Oshoffa’s 40th transition with quiz

True Word in Season, a group in the Celestial Church of Christ, yesterday held an International Juvenile Bible Quiz Competition as part of its commemoration of the 40th transition anniversary of its founder, Pa Samuel Bilewu Joseph Oshoffa.

Thirty parishes participated in the competition held at the CCC National Headquarters Archdiocese, Makoko, Lagos, with home boys Babalola Jeremiah Hassan and Oluwaseun Abraham carting home the star prize of $1,500 for CCC National Headquarters Parish, while Mokola Parish came second (N500,000) and Sharon parish came third (N250,000).

Tracing the origin of the competition, the convener, Bro. Samuel Ademola Bolaji said the competition first took roots in 1979/80 during the lifetime of Pa Oshoffa, and that it was revived to further the late founder’s legacy.

“This competition began in 1979/80 during Pa Oshoffa’s lifetime. That’s why we showed the participants images of the 1982 version. I participated as a 7-year-old and I can tell that this was papa’s way of passing down a legacy. It was also a way of inspiring the Sunday school children, such that the knowledge of the bible and the doctrine of the church are passed and there is no confusion.”

Shepherd in Charge, Venerable Superior Evangelist Afis Kiki said the quiz competition “is the first of its kind and the best we can think of as far as futuristic missions are concerned.”

He implored youths of the church to leverage on their IT knowledge to further the CCC message and take it to the next level.

The True Word in Season will hold an International Juvenile Choir/Musical Concert on May 27 alongside a concurrent 116 days of testimonies for members to share their physical and spiritual experience with the late founder.

  • My father had three wives when God called him- Oshoffa

Son of the founder of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) and Shepherd of CCC International Headquarters Church, Superior Evangelist Olatosho Oshoffa, has lambasted Nigerians who criticise his late father, Rev. Samuel Bilewu- Oshoffa, for marrying thirteen wives.

The 49-year-old evangelist, in an exclusive interview with our reporter, explained his late father was a humanitarian and a spiritual man to the core, who was already a polygamist before God called him.

He noted the late Oshoffa never had a concubine besides his thirteen wives.

Olatosho, who was recently appointed the head of the International Headquarters Church, wondered why critics of his father would question God’s judgment who had found him worthy to found a church that has remained vibrant after 72 years.

His words: “The ways of God are mysterious. God is not human. If Papa could have three wives and God would still find him worthy to found Celestial Church of Christ, who are we to judge?

“He had three wives when God called him and asked him to found CCC which is still a vibrant spiritual church today.

“If God could find him among three wives and ask him to found CCC and 72 years after, the church still exists vibrantly in the world, we have so many churches that have been founded by people and they don’t exist anymore.

“God had left those that had no wife, those that had gotten one wife, God had not made them founder of CCC.”

He continued:” God is not interested in hypocrisy. If you want to marry ten wives, let your family know you are married to ten wives officially.

“If you say you are married to one wife and you have 10 to 20 concubines, it is after your death, at your burial, that many women would claim you are the father of their children.

“What type of embarrassment is that? That was what Oshoffa avoided. All the wives were inside.

“He never had a concubine outside. The children knew one another and I am proud of him anytime. I have no regrets at all.”

On his appointment as new head of the International Headquarters of the Church, Oshoffa expressed gratitude to God and the Pastor and Spiritual Head of the church, Rev. Emmanuel Oshoffa, for the rare opportunity to serve, adding that he was a product of grace and mercy.

He however dismissed insinuations in some quarters that he lacks the experience to head the International Headquarters Church.

According to him, God had formed him locally and internationally for the tasks ahead.

He said he was the de facto shepherd of the mother parish of the church in Germany and a parish of the church in Dakar Senegal from 1993 to 1997 and 1997 to 2001 respectively because of the confidence reposed in him by shepherds of the parishes.

  • Oshoffa urges Nigerians to be hopeful

The Pastor and Spiritual leader of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide, Rev. E.M.F Oshoffa, has urged Nigerians to be hopeful of a better future amidst uncertainties beclouding the country.

Oshoffa maintained that the current administrations at all levels have the capacity to transform the fortunes of Nigerians if backed with prayer.

He spoke at the Celestial Church of Christ, Ogudu Expressway Cathedral, Ogudu, Ori-Oke, during a visit which coincided with the celebration of the church’s ‘Cantata’ (service of songs) tagged: ‘Ebenezer’.

Oshoffa, who prayed for the country and a peaceful election, said: “Nigeria, like other countries, is passing through economic stress, but with prayer and proper management of the situation, Nigerians will smile again as we journey towards the election in 2019, which I pray will be successful without violence and blood-letting.

“To achieve a greater tomorrow, we must continue to live together in harmony, peace and unity. There is no society, no matter how puny, is devoid of rancour. Let us inculcate in ourselves the spirit of forgiveness, togetherness and one love.”

The Shepherd-in-Charge, Sup. Evang. David Olaleye, thanked Oshoffa and promised the faithful continual support for the hierarchy.

  • Oshoffa preaches love, humility among members

Pastor and Spiritual Head of Celestial Church of Christ(CCC) Worldwide, Rev. Emmanuel Oshoffa, has urged members as well as Christians in Nigeria to love one another, live in peace and embrace the spirit of humility.

Oshoffa spoke last Sunday after honouring the invitation of CCC Oko-Oba Parish III shepherded by Superior Evangelist Amos Victor.

He said only the pure will receive the blessings of God, urging Nigerians to consecrate themselves to the Lord.

He urged the church members to abide with the doctrines of the church accordingly and detach themselves from terrestrial members performing atrocities with the name of the church.

Citing several Bible passages, he insisted that being humble is the best way to attract the presence of God.

  • Oshoffa visits Oko-Oba parish III today

Pastor and the Spiritual Head of Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide, Rev. Emmanuel Oshoffa, would be in Lagos today to bless the congregation of Celestial Church of Christ, Oko-Oba Parish III, at Jonathan Coker Road, Abule-Egba.

  • Fear of God will fix Nigeria, Oshoffa assures

Pastor and spiritual head of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Worldwide, Rev. Emmanuel Oshoffa, has called on Nigerians to fear God to change the nation.

He said leaders must also stop relying on their intelligence to fix the nation.

Oshoffa said they must depend on God to move Nigeria out of the woods.

He spoke last weekend at the Holy Mary Service and Prayer for the Nation as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the church in Lagos.

The prayer session with the theme “Time to rebuild and restore’’ attracted members of the church from Africa, America, Asia and other parts of the world.

He said the glory of God will radiate in Nigeria and peace will be established when all Nigerians turn to Jesus in humility and obedience to his word.

He noted that God led the Israelites into slavery when they forsook Him but restored them when they turned to Him in repentance.

“Nigeria can become the sanctuary of God if we change our ways, fear God, shun sin and wickedness, then peace like a river will flow throughout the country,” he said.

Oshoffa assured that God has the answer to the nation’s problems, saying the teething socio-economic problems facing Nigerians are only threats from the devil, which cannot undermine the precious promises of God for the country.

The cleric pointed out that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, saying “wisdom, prosperity, peace, progress and abundance is with God and he can give us in abundance when we look unto him.”

He added that sustainable peace and development can only be found in Jesus Christ and until Nigerians come to the knowledge of the truth in Jesus, peace may continue to elude us.

The cleric added that human intelligence brought the nation to the point of poor economy, ethnic crises, kidnapping and other problems, saying it would be compounded except Nigerians return to God.

He said: “Let us then stand in awe, and sin not. Let us fear and seek God. Let us turn away from our evil practice, hope in his mercy and walk in His commandment.

“Then national mercy is assured. He will hear our grievances from heaven and restore Nigeria, our country.”

He explained the Holy Mary day is in commemoration of the divine encounter the founder, the late Mobiyina Oshoffa, had with Holy Mary 39 years ago.

Owing to it, he recalled the founder set aside every first Friday in July for the celebration.

Chairman, Organising Committee of the anniversary, Emmanuel Soyemi, said that with fervent prayers and embracing a lifestyle of holiness, the nation’s current challenges would be a thing of the past.

“The present challenges confronting the nation is for a period but with the right things in place, the problem will not last long,’’ he said.

The Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria Lagos State Chapter, (Dr.) Israel Akinadewo, who commended the effort of Celestial Church for the prayer for the nation, said prayer and good works practiced by everyone will take Nigeria to greater height.
