    Osuchukwu secures vital draw for Braga

    Former Dolphins of Port Harcourt and Flying Eagles midfielder, Chidi Osuchukwu was the hero for Sporting Braga as he came off the bench to rescue a point for the side in a 1-1 draw on Monday.

    The Portuguese Liga de Honra side were playing against bottom placed Trofense in an away game.

    Osuchukwu, who was left on the bench for the kick off, was brought into the fray in the 63rd minute in place of Burkina Faso midfielder, Zidnaba Jubril.

    That was after Mateus Fonseca had given Trofense an unlikely lead with a 59th minute goal.

    And Osuchukwu did not disappoint as he fired the equaliser after just 10 minutes on the pitch.

    Osuchukwu has made only three starts for Braga this season, and has been brought on as a substitute twice.

    FUTAA.COM has learnt that Flying Eagles midfielder, Chidi Osuchukwu was transferred to Portuguese club, Braga for the princely sum of 500,000 euros (N106m).

    Osuchukwu, who was with Dolphins football club of Port Harcourt, was whisked away from Turkey immediately the Nigeria U20 team were knocked out of the tournament.

    The creative midfielder, who is always one of the first players to report back to Dolphins after national assignments, has been tipped to succeed with the Portuguese premier league side.

    He has since settled with the B side of Braga, but many believe that his stay with the second team is only temporary.

    Portuguese journalists in Kayseri have been asking after Flying Eagles star Chidi Osuchukwu who is bound for a top club side in the country – Sporting Braga.

    Several reporters and photographers accosted Flying Eagles media officer Samm Audu during the team’s final training at the Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri on Thursday demanding to know more about the left-sided Dolphins forward.

    MTNFootball.com reports that interview bookings have also been made with Osuchukwu after Friday’s showdown with Portugal.

    Braga has announced Osuchukwu, who can play on the left side of attack or as a central midfielder, has signed a four-year deal pending a medical.

    Another member of the squad who has attracted interest in Kayseri is goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu.

    Eighteen and half years after he played for Kayserispor in the Turkish league, Agu has returned to his former base.

    It was a happy reunion for Agu and several of his former teammates at Kayseri’s biggest club when the Flying Eagles filed out at the impressive Kayserispor training ground.

    “It’s really amazing what Kayseri has become since I left the city,” said an impressed Agu.

    “The city has simply been transformed. It’s unbelievable.”

    The former Eagles skipper said he remembers Kayseri as a city that loves its football.

    Agu spent two and half years at Kayserispor.

    Last season, the club finished fifth in the Turkish top league and may well feature in the UEFA Europa League should Besiktas and Fenerbache be found guilty of a match-fixing allegation next week.

    Nigeria U-20 national team midfielder, Chidi Osuchukwu may return on Thursday against Heartland as he has been training with the team since Saturday.

    Osuchukwu a key player with Dolphins for three seasons now was on duty with the U20s at the Africa Youth Championships and returned to Port Harcourt after the Flying Eagles qualified for the World Cup.

    Another player that may make his return to the starting lineup is former Hanoi T and T striker, Ifeanyi Onuigbo who sat out the game against Sharks as he was suspended.

    “If both players return to the starting lineup on Thursday against Heartland they will help in our quest to beat the Owerri based side,” Media Officer of Dolphins, China Acheru said.

    “Osuchukwu is very tricky if he plays on the wings or in the center of midfield and we all know Onuigbo’s all-action style will keep opposing defenders busy as long as he remains on the pitch.”
