JUSUN disowns ongoing protest, strike over Osun CJ

    • Union says action politically-motivated

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has dissociated itself from the ongoing protest and strike by some of its members against the embattled Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Ojo, suspended by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The JUSUN leadership described the picketing by judicial workers as a means to settle political score, “which is against the tenets of the union.”

This warning is coming barely 24 hours after the state Chairman of JUSUN, Gbenga Eludire, declared indefinite strike as Justice Ojo resumed in office.

A circular by the National President of JUSUN, Marwan Adamu, which was signed by his deputy, Emmanuel Abioye and addressed to Osun chairman of JUSUN, which was copied, the chief registrar, Osun State High Court, noted that some unscrupulous elements are causing confusion in the name of the union in Osun State judiciary.

The statement said: “JUSUN as a responsible union has never and will never take any perceived or real partisan position in all its activities with any individual or organisation.

“Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria has never directed or approved that any of its members should proceed on any protest or picketing in Osun State Judiciary or any other state to settle any perceived or real political scores.”

It added: “Consequently upon the above highlighted position, JUSUN hereby dissociates itself from any action taken so far by any set of people whatsoever under whatever guise and the national secretariat views such action as a calculated attempt by some set of people to play cheap political game with the intent to blackmail the union and tarnish our good image and good reputation built over the years.”

The JUSUN national leadership warned its members against participating in any illegal picketing, protest or job boycotting whatsoever.

‘Leave Adedoyin out of Osun CJ travail’

The family of Chief Rahman Adedoyin has distanced itself from the travail of the Chief Justice of Osun State, Mrs. Adepele Ojo.

Chief Adedoyin, who is at a correctional centre in Lagos, was convicted over the death an MBA student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, Timothy Adegoke.

According to a statement by the family, signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the conglomerate, Dr Kunle Awojoodu, titled: ‘Removal of Justice Adepele Ojo: Leave Dr Adedoyin and his family out of political drama’, the family of Adedoyin condemned the defamatory rumours being peddled in various media, social and print, linking Dr Adedoyin with Governor Adeleke vis-a-vis the travails of “Chief Judge” Adepele Ojo and her current travails on allegations of corruption.

The family said: “It is disheartening that some never-do-well elements within the society could, simply, for selfish and face saving reasons, descend to the abyss of pedestrianism alleging that it is because of Dr Adedoyin’s case that Governor Adeleke is pitched against the CJ and, at the same time, being called to account by the Osun State lawmakers.

“It smacks of unwarranted malice and sheer hypocrisy that anyone could level this type of mischievous allegation against Dr Adedoyin, a renowned educationist, who has never been a politician, had nexus with politics or sought any political contract whatsoever,  in their mad rush either to corner undue public advantage or circumvent unavertable responsibilities.

“The family of Dr Adedoyin wishes to categorically make it clear that we do not have any relationship with Governor Adeleke or his family.

“The public is equally informed that neither Dr Adedoyin nor his family has any special relationship with any politician or has link with the current travails of Justice Ojo. Hence, the family strongly dissociates itself from unfounded rumours being peddled and negatively marketed, as usual, to this horrible effect.”
