    Osogbo to launch digital data bank to promote unity, social welfare

    Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, is set to unveil a digital data bank designed to unite its indigenes and enhance social support within the community.

    The initiative was discussed during a town hall meeting organized by the Osogbo Affairs Forum (OSAF) over the weekend. 

    The event, themed “Galvanising Osogbo Indigenes Towards Unity, Patriotism, and Goal Getting,” brought together prominent sons and daughters of Osogbo for its inaugural edition.

    Notable speakers included the former Field Commander of Amotekun, Amitolu Shittu; Osun Budget Commissioner, Professor Ademola Adeleke; and Gani Ola-Oluwa, among others.

    Addressing journalists, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Alhaji Toyin Yusuf, stated, “The primary goal of this gathering is to foster unity among Osogbo indigenes and residents.”

    “We have gathered here to tell people that we have a monarch who deserves our respect in all spheres. Despiting having cases in court challenging his enthronement we must all respect him. 

    “We are making moves  to have a data bank for Osogbo people to identify the professions and social status of our indigenes. This will help the indigenes to help each other to know who to go meet when they need help. This gathering is apolitical moves to ensure the growth of the community.”

    Dismissed soldier arrested for armed robbery in Osun

    A 34-year-old dismissed soldier, Anthony Emmanuel has been arrested after several robberies of residents of Esa-Oke community in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

    The Nation learned that Emmanuel perpetrated the crime alongside three others who were also dismissed soldiers.

    Parading the suspects at the Osun State Police Command, the Police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola disclosed that Emmanuel alongside others took their victims into a bush and forced them to transfer N3 million to their account before they were released.

    “They also robbed one Olawumi Oluwaseun and Ishola of their iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 respectively, valued at N1.25 million before they were also freed. They carried out their operations in military uniform.”

    She noted that the Anti- Kidnapping Squad of Command led the operation and Emmanuel was arrested and discovered that one David Agbebaku who they carried out the operation together had been arrested in Oyo State for another offence.

    Speaking with the suspect, he explained, “I and David, another dismissed soldier, kidnapped a young man who transferred money into an account. David later transferred N2million to my account.

    “The victim didn’t transfer money to me. The military paraphernalia is all mine, I bought the rank and put it on. David brought me for the operation from Ibadan to Esa-Oke. I served in the Nigerian Army for fourteen years and nine months. I went on a foreign mission with the United Nations in 2014 under the 35 192 battalion and went for a mission in the North East.

    “I was court-martialed for misconduct to the service, indiscipline, insubordination, and desert. I was dismissed as a corporal in January. I know I have committed an offence against the Military and Nigeria and I hope I can be forgiven. This will not repeat itself.”

    Outrage as policemen beat, detain NSCDC officer in Osun

    Condemnation has trailed the beating and detention of a officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) by policemen in Osun for preventing them from allegedly invading an estate without arrest warrant and means of identification. 

    The Nation gathered policemen in mufti attempted to invade Elizabeth Estate via Osun State Secretariat on Wednesday for arrest but the NSCDC officer on duty denied them entry over questionable identity. 

    A source in the estate said: “Policemen from Ataoja came to our estate for arrest without warrant and the NSCDC urged them to provide one, else he won’t allow them in. It resulted to altercation where 20 police reinforced to the scene and they beat him up and injured two residents brutally.” 

    Reacting to the incident, spokesperson of Osun NSCDC, Kehinde Adeleke, condemned the act of the police operatives.

    She confirmed the arrest of its officer by policemen, adding that his uniform was torn while he was handcuffed, arrested and detained at Ataoja Police Command. 

    The Osun Police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident, saying, “the NSCDC officer beat up two of our men and deflated the tyres of their vehicle.” 

    But convener of Dialogue 365, Comrade Waheed Saka, berated the police describing the act as barbaric. 

    He said: “There are rising cases of police brutality in Osun State lately. The recent extrajudicial activities of police may result to another massive protest against police.”

    Ghanaian palm wine tapper, friend stab selves to death in Osun

    A sexagenarian Ghanaian palm wine tapper, Ali Baba, and his friend, Kayode Olete (52), have stabbed each other to death after a heated argument.

    A statement by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, said the remains of the duo were found in a pool of blood.

    She explained that the two friends who were said to be living together stabbed each other until their intestines were ripped out.

    Adeleke said: “On Thursday evening, around 9:05 pm, we got a report that the two friends were fighting at Baale Okunoye Compound, Inisa.

    “Nobody knows what led to their fight as the house where the incident happened is isolated and dilapidated.

    “Passersby later saw them in a pool of blood as they had stabbed and matcheted themselves.”

    She added that the corps contacted the chairman of the LCDA and the elders of the community about the incident, adding: “When we got to the scene this morning, it was discovered that the two of them had passed on. The families of the two victims were contacted and they gave their consent for them to be buried.”
