    Osun police arrest nine for killing NSCDC operative

    •Monarch calls for investigation

    The Osun State Police Command has arrested nine suspects, allegedly involved in crisis over kingship tussle at Araromi-Owu in Ayedade Local Government Area which led to the killing of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operative and one other.

    The Nation recalled that a crisis ensued on Tuesday, which resulted in the burning of Araomi-Owu Palace and several houses, destruction of property and loss of life after a group kicked against the installation of the king.

     Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, said: “We have arrested nine people in connection with the crisis in Orile-Owu and Araromi-Owu.”

    Meanwhile, the Olowu of Orile-Owu, Oba Dauda Akinfalabi in a petition through his lawyer, Bola Adebowale, urged the Commissioner of Police to arrest those that engineered attempted murder, unlawful attempt to install a king at Araromi-Owu and conduct likely to breach of the peace in the area.

    Police arrest suspected gunman for molesting 18-year-old girl in Osun

    A gunman named Jelili Ogunbunmi has been arrested by Nigerian police operatives for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl in Osun State.

    The incident reportedly took place last Thursday at Adewumi village near Olode in the Ife South Local Government area.

    A community source, speaking on condition of anonymity, informed our correspondent that the incident occurred around 8 PM when the victim, Blessing, went to buy a soft drink with her boyfriend, identified as Daniel.

    The source said: “While Daniel and his girlfriend were returning from the errand, Ogunbunmi who was armed with gun waylaid them and threatened to kill them but Daniel run for safety leaving his girlfriend with the suspect. 

    “Then, the gunman dragged Blessing into the bush to rape her and he threatened to kill her if she resisted. Meanwhile, he has been arrested because Daniel reported the matter to the police.”

    When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident on Sunday, June 23.

    She disclosed: “Ogunbunmi has been arrested and a dane gun used to perpetrate the act was recovered. The matter has been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department.”
