    17 passengers trapped as gas truck rammed mini bus into Osun river

    No fewer than 17 passengers were trapped when a gas-laden truck rammed a mini bus into a stream in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Thursday. 

    The Nation gathered that the incident occurred at Old Toll Gate close to Sabo-Lagere along Ife-Ibadan expressway via Ife Grand Resorts around 12:45am 

    Security source disclosed that some of the passenger in the mini bus died while others were trapped in the incident. 

    It was gathered that the gas laden truck lost control and rammed into the mini bus conveying no fewer than 17 commuters.

    Osun Commandant of the Federal Rod Safety Corps(FRSC), Taofeek Sokunbi explained that his men were on ground to rescue the passengers and evacuate the vehicles involved.

    The spokesperson of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke confirmed that 17 people were trapped in the accidents 

    She said: “Operatives of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Police and NSCDC are making frantic efforts to evacuate those trapped. 

    “Others that were seriously injured were being conveyed to hospital. Efforts are being made as well to tow the wreckage of the vehicle and the truck to the Police Station for further investigation.“

    Man jumps into Osun river after alleged harassment by thugs

    Residents of Osogbo capital of Osun State were thrown into confusion after a man jumped into Osun river after harassment by some groups of hoodlums.

    It was gathered hoodlums had beaten one Femi Apatanku over a yet-to-be-known matter after which he left the scene to the Gbodofon bridge where he jumped inside the Osun river, which is less than 200 meters away.

    An eyewitness Sikiru Yusuf claimed the incident occurred around 10:30am on Saturday causing confusion around the area.

    He said: “Femi jumped into the river,he kept saying that a group of gang members had beaten him mercilessly at Finger Licking area adjacent Gbodofon bridge where he jumped inside the river.

    “Officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) later came to the scene to retrieve the corpse.”

    Osun Civil Defence Corps spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident.

    He said: “The body of the said man has not been recovered but efforts are ongoing.”
