Speaking on behalf of the group, The Progressives Frontliners (TPF), Comrade Ajijola Ayodele appealed to Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, and other leaders to reach a consensus on zoning the ticket to Osun West.

He noted that such a decision would strengthen the party ahead of the primaries and encourage other districts to intensify their campaign efforts.

Osun monarchs demand 2026 governorship ticket for Osun West

…say no monarch will support guber candidate outside West zone

No fewer than 70 traditional rulers in Osun State have called on political parties to zone their 2026 governorship tickets to the Osun West Senatorial District.

Led by the Akire of Ikire-Ile, Oba Abdulazeez Adebamiji, the monarchs made the appeal in a communique issued after their meeting in Iwo on Wednesday.

Citing justice and equity, they argued that Osun West has been politically marginalized since the state’s creation.

“We implore all political parties in the state to select their governorship candidates from Osun West in the forthcoming 2026 election,” Oba Adebamiji stated while reading the communique.

“We are blessed with capable, qualified, and mentally stable individuals across the 10 local government areas that make up Osun West that can successfully steer the ship of the State.”

He stressed: “Anything short of this is clear in consideration, injustice, and marginalization of Osun West and its people.”

“They noted that they are not opposed to Governor Ademola Adeleke, hence they applauded his developmental strides in the state.”

It added: “However, so as not to be seen as being biased and antagonistic, we implore every registered political party in the state to shop for their gubernatorial candidates from Osun West only.

Adebamiji disclosed: “We have resolved that no Royal Father from Osun West will mobilize his subjects for any gubernatorial candidate picked outside Osun West. This is not an empty decision. We mean what we say.”

2026: Ex-Osun LG chairmen urge APC to zone governorship ticket to Osun West

Forty-one former local government chairmen in Osun State have called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.

Speaking at the APC secretariat in Iwo, Hon. Aderemi Abbas, chairman of the forum, read a communiqué signed by all the ex-council bosses from the district.

The group also passed a vote of confidence in the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Addressing concerns about power rotation within the party, they stated, “If Oyetola decides not to contest again, the ticket should be zoned to Osun West for fairness and equity.”

The forum highlighted Osun West as a key APC stronghold, noting that the party secured victories in six out of the ten local government areas in the district, despite the PDP candidate hailing from the zone.

Responding to questions, Abbas dismissed claims that APC national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, from Osun Central, is opposing their agenda or harboring governorship ambitions. He clarified that Basiru has not declared any interest in the contest.

“The national secretary of the party has never come out to say he wants to contest for governor, he has never addressed anybody, and we have never heard that he is coming out to contest, so claims that he is behind it are ill-conceived.”

“Our agitation is not against any individual but issue-based. Even during the presidential election, the northern elders and governors agreed to zoning of presidency to the south for cohesion, stability and unity.”

2026: Group kicks over alleged opposition to zoning governorship ticket to Osun West

…I don’t respond to faceless groups — Senator Basiru

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State is embroiled in a zoning controversy as the Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG) accused the party’s national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of opposing the zoning of the 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Director of Public Engagement and Operations, Samuel Iwolode, COAIG alleged that those resisting the zoning proposal were doing so to serve Senator Basiru’s interests.

The group reiterated its unwavering stance on zoning the governorship ticket to Osun West, emphasising that such a move is crucial to ensuring equity and fairness within the party and avoiding a repeat of past electoral setbacks.

COAIG further highlighted that the growing advocacy from various groups in favour of Osun West producing the APC governorship candidate in 2026 aligns with the broader interest of the party.

“The antagonists of Osun West Advocacy should prioritise the interests of the party over the personal ambitions of the APC National Secretary regarding governorship.

“Senator Basiru, who is opposing zoning, is a beneficiary of his current position. He emerged without undergoing an election.”

Reacting to the allegation, Senator Basiru, in a terse message, said, “I don’t respond to faceless groups and unknown individuals.”
