…launches free digital artisans training to mark 2025 World Youth Skill Day

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has revealed that 43% of youths in Osun State lack access to decent jobs, while 36% struggle to secure capital for business startups — a situation it says is negatively impacting the state’s economy.

To mark the 2025 World Youth Skills Day, the council launched a free digital and artisan training scheme aimed at reducing unemployment and empowering young people across the state.

Speaking at a press briefing in Osogbo on Monday, the Director of Employment and Job Creation at NYCN, Enoch Ogunsanya, said the council is set to partner with the Osun State Government to provide practical skills and entrepreneurship support for the youth.

He lamented the rising rate of youth unemployment, underemployment, and limited access to vocational and digital opportunities in the state, describing it as a challenge common to many parts of Nigeria.

“Many of our young people are willing to work, to learn, and to contribute meaningfully to the economy, but they lack access to training, funding, information, and support systems,” Ogunsanya stated.

He said the council’s intervention is a step toward building a more inclusive, skilled, and economically productive youth population in Osun.

“A survey we conducted under this Directorate revealed that 43% of youth lack access to decent jobs, 36% struggle due to capital and business support gaps and youths in rural areas, artisans, and even students in higher institutions are neglected in empowerment drives.”

He urged youths to embrace digital literacy and modern skill sets like data analysis, cybersecurity, and tech innovation.

However, he said that the council said, “We have begun implementing strategic initiatives aimed at empowering youth across Osun State by launching digital skill, artisan-focused training for free for youths and partnership with organisations for more inclusiveness and data-backed solutions.”

He tasked youths to join the NYCN drive in tackling unemployment in Osun State, adding that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is ever ready to tackle unemployment.

Apeaking at the grand ceremony of the inauguration of the corps on Thursday held at Freedom Park via Old Garage, Adeleke noted that the scheme would address joblessness in the state.

He noted that the programme is transitional arrangement designed to provide opportunities for our youth in several sectors in the state.

According to him, “Today’s gathering is a continuation of our efforts to provide job opportunities for our teaming youth. Ten thousand youth spread across the 332 political wards are engaged to provide services in the area of health, security, environment and education.

“The newly enrolled Imole Youth Corps members are to be trained to deliver support services across the grassroots economy and sectors.”

He charged the corps members to demonstrate strong commitment in whatever sector you are assigned, tasking them “to justify the confidence reposed in you by working diligently in your posted areas”.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Moshood Olagunju commended Adeleke for the successful take off of the programme, noting that “the governor has demonstrated now and then his love and passion for youth development.”
