Court to Daniel: Present property documents within two-week period given by govt

Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu yesterday directed former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, to present the necessary documents requested by the state government.

At the resumed hearing of Suit No: HCS/371/2025, Otunba Justus Gbenga Daniel and Anor vs the Governor of Ogun State and Others, Justice O. S. Oloyede directed Senator Daniel to present his papers to the government in line with the request made to him and other residents in the area.

O.T. Olaotan (Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice), who represents the government, alongside R.B. Kadiri (DCL), A. E. Odukoya and W. A. Onawole informed the court that an interlocutory injunction and counter-affidavits have been filed in response to the motion by Daniel and served on the claimants’ counsel.

The counsel noted that the matter was not ripe for hearing and that the court was also not inclined to take the application.

However, A. O. Kotoye (SAN), with O. T. Are and A. O. Adeniyi for the claimants, applied for the court to extend the interim order earlier granted, which will automatically abate after seven days.

The defence argued that the court should order the claimants/applicants to take advantage of the two-week extension announced by the government and furnish the Ministry of Physical Planning with the necessary documents, which others served with the same notices have been complying with.

Justice Oloyede thereafter asked the parties to maintain the status quo. He also urged the parties to explore settlement options.

He further directed the claimants/applicants to take advantage of the extension and furnish the relevant government agency with the necessary documents as requested by the government.

Counsel for the claimants and defendants both agreed that the matters be adjourned to October 13.

The court consequently adjourned the matter to the date agreed by the parties for the hearing of the pending applications.

OGD, others mull investment in STEM for future growth, continuity

Former Ogun State governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) has made a case for conscious investment in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in order to guarantee a steady stream of practitioners to take over the operations of industries.

Daniel, spoke in Lagos at a public forum organised as part of activities to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Kresta Laurel Limited.

The serving senator, who is also the Founding CEO and the chair of the board, said it makes good investment to upskill the capacity and experience of young, aspiring engineers because of the complexities and innovations around the practice.

The event, called the Students’ Interactive Programme, was held at the company’s headquarters in Maryland, Lagos, and brought together engineering students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University (LASU), and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).

In his keynote address, Daniel, reflected on the company’s journey and ongoing commitment to the country’s development.

“For 35 years, Kresta Laurel has led the way in Nigeria’s engineering sector by investing in knowledge development and human capacity,” he said. “Our focus has always been on building a sustainable future through engineering leadership.”

Echoing similar sentiments, the Managing Director of Kresta Laurel, Engr. Dideolu Falobi, added that the event was about more than celebrating a milestone. “This initiative is not just about looking back—it’s about looking ahead,” he said. “We want to help young Nigerians connect their academic training with what happens in the real world of engineering.”

The programme was packed with practical sessions and engaging conversations designed to give students a taste of real industry challenges and expectations. They explored key areas such as leadership, safety, and global quality standards.

Highlights included a session on Leadership and Career Development by Mr. Kehinde Sogunle, Fire Safety Awareness by Mr. Sunkanmi Adegorite, Workplace Safety by Mr. Habib Lukman, and Quality Management Systems by Mr. Peter Adewumi.

Academic leaders from UNILAG’s Faculty of Engineering were also present, including Professor S. O. Adeosun (Dean), Dr. Oyekeye, Dr. Lawrence Osoba, and Dr. (Mrs.) Obidiagwu. Engr. Osho represented LASUSTECH, most of whom shared interesting insights on how to turn the tide in the STEM sector.

For more than three decades, Kresta Laurel has built a reputation not only for engineering excellence but also for mentoring and developing young talent. The 35th anniversary celebration was a reminder that the company’s eyes remain firmly on the future—supporting young engineers, sharing knowledge, and contributing to national growth.

  • Ex Ogun governor underscores entrepreneurship

Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has appealed to youths to remain focused and be tenacious in pursuing their dreams and entrepreneurship ideas, adding that fortune only favours the brave.

Daniel spoke at the third annual Young Leaders Entrepreneurship Conference (YOLEC) organised by Sparklight Entrepreneurship Show which held at the Afe Babalola Hall, University of Lagos.

The event tagged: ‘An entrepreneurial mindset: A solution to the high unemployment rate in Nigeria’ brought together hundreds of students, youth corps members, and unemployed graduates within and outside the university system.

It featured a seminar, breakout sessions, CV Review, mentoring session and sessions on digital skills and technologies like data science and analytics, cyber-security, cloud computing, block chain.

Daniel, who praised the organiser for putting the event together, mentored youths on the importance of leadership training and how youths could be financially independent as entrepreneurs.

“Above all, if you look at the lives of successful entrepreneurs in the world, there is one thing that’s common to them all- perseverance. None of them gave up at any point in time,” he added.

He noted that challenges and obstacles will always come but successful entrepreneurs are people who never give, but are rather tenacious in achieving their dreams.

Earlier, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration and Acting Director, Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Centre, University of Lagos, Dr. Sunday Adebisi, said the University of Lagos has turned all its courses to entrepreneurship.

He said:”We have started to support entrepreneurship ideas among the students and provide the needed institutional support to grow those ideas. Our desire is to create as many Mark Zukerbrg in UNILAG,” he said.

He, however, stressed the need to create an eco-system that will make entrepreneurship to thrive in Nigeria as the rising spate of unemployment is mind blogging.

He said Nigeria is the second country with the highest rate of unemployment in Africa with over 46 million active citizens unemployed or underemployed.

He called for a national entrepreneurship policies that would guide and give the youths the impetus that their ideas and aspiration are been supported.

“We need an entrepreneurship starts up bank that will provides soft loans with less encumbrance for five years. This will help to develop the skills ideas and accelerate its benefits within a short period of time because the eco system is favourable,” he said.

  • Lafenwa-Itele-Ota road: Pain in residents’ neck

When the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel constructed the Lafenwa-Itele Ota Road in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, residents were happy that they would experience easy movement to and from anywhere. DAMOLA KOLA-DARE reports that the residents’ joy was short-lived as the road failed three years after completion.

There is a deafening rumble. Suddenly the cloud darkens and the sky rips open and empties its bowel. Rain dances on the landscape. The road is sated and groans under the weight of the deluge. It is a home to grime and puddles. It is a bed of frustration, nightmare and agony.

Welcome to Lafenwa-Itele-Ota Road, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State. One wonders whether residents and road users are praying for a deus ex machina or hopelessly waiting for Godot, or they have resigned to fate.

The Lafenwa-Itele Road, which serves as the link between Lagos end of Ayobo and Ogun State through a bridge, has become a disgraceful symbol of utter neglect and a synonym for untold hardship. A mishmash of eroding tarred patches, gullies and miry pools, it starts immediately after descending the Ayobo Bridge, with a roundabout ahead (MOPOL Junction) which points to Aiyetoro Road from the left, then turning to the right, runs straight to Ota albeit through other routes such as Lafenwa Junction, Odan-Otun and Koro Otun. It is also a connecting point to border towns such as Seme and Idiroko.

Heavy duty trucks laden with laterite ply this route daily. Their presence not only contributes to traffic bottleneck but also worsens the condition of the almost impassable road as motorists, motorcyclists and commercial bus drivers prefer to use a detour to avoid being stuck in grimy mud on major parts of the road.

It is sheer purgatory for some surrounding communities such as Onifade, Adeleye, Kogi-Kajola, Aparadija and a host of others  during the dry season when dust and fog envelope the whole area, and during the rainy season. A journey on this road reveals a grim picture of government insensitivity to the plight of residents of the area.

With a slew of shops along the road closed and abandoned, the area wears a soulless garb and comes across as a backwater region that needs the fresh breath of modernisation. The potholes and craters perfectly sum up the pall of retrogression that hangs unabashedly over the Lafenwa-Itele horizon.

This reporter felt the pulse of some residents in what turned out to be a meld of complaints, disappointment and appeals to the state government.

An ex-corps member, Taiwo Raji, spews bile as she laments the “pitiable” state of the road and seemingly heartless commercial motorcyclists who charge purse-tearing fares.

“This road is a deathtrap, especially during the rainy season! While I was serving, I ply this route once a week. It is quite sad that for close to two years now, nothing has been done to address the pitiable condition of this road.

“This has made okada riders have a field day as they exploit passengers at will by charging exorbitant prices even when there is no rain. Since it is a major highway that link Seme border, those in authority should do something about it,” she said.

Ayobami Ololade, a secondary school student said: “We are facing hell with regard to the poor condition of this road. Commercial bus drivers, private car owners, even those selling by the roadside are not left out. Once there is excessive rainfall, people are snarled up in traffic, and at times unable to go to work. The presence of tankers and trucks has not helped matters too as this can result in fatal accidents and do further damage to the road. The state government should come to our rescue.”

Oyekunle, a commercial motorcyclist, noted that he does not ply the route because of the deplorable condition and extortion  by highway touts. He added that authorities in the state cannot feign ignorance as an ex-governor once embarked on a tour of the region about four years ago.

In the same manner, a furniture maker, Yakub Ibikunle, spoke candidly as he complained of lack of patronage and dearth of funds to pay his long overdue rent at his current workshop.

“The condition of this road has crippled economic activities. There is an alarming decrease in sales. This is supposed to be an expressway but buses and bikes are facing big problems here. The government should remember us and not concentrate only on Abeokuta. We want to feel the impact of the state government here too.”

According to Bayo, a commercial bus driver and poultry farmer, “the road is simply damaging our vehicles. From MOPOL Junction to Oju Ore, it is a mess. When there is heavy rainfall, transporters find it extremely difficult to move. Before anything, proper drainage system should be constructed to ease the flow of water.”

Also contributing, Pastor Fagboyo said: “We are really suffering here. When the Ayobo end was being tarred, we thought it would be extended to Lafenwa, but it was not to be. Some residents have even abandoned their houses pending when the road will be fixed.”

Obviously dissatisfied with those at the helm of affairs, Bola Oyegunle, a hotelier, decried how her once-booming business had nosedived and the cruelty of double taxation (at state and federal levels) in this era of austerity. The hotel that previously buzzed with many customers now looks drab as a result of the decrepit road.

While making a plea to the new administration to “come to our aid”, she frowned on government officials because “they only come to solicit votes when elections are near, after which they disappear.”

The newly-installed monarch of Aiyetoro-Itele Town, His Royal Highness (HRH), Oba Adewumi Adeniji, deplored the condition of the road which had been a source of suffering by residents and motorists. He added that the road which was constructed during the era of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state, was shoddily done and as a result washed off within three years.

He said: “Generally, the road is very bad right from Ota. It was constructed during the time of Otunba  Gbenga Daniel but it was not solid enough. Once there is heavy rainfall, residents and motorists suffer so much. At the roundabout at times, they are held up for many hours because of the sorry state of the road. Hence, I send my men down to control and ease the flow of traffic.

“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid because all the communities in Ado- Odo Ota, the industrial hub of the state, are still backward in terms of social infrastructure,” he said.

  • Gbenga Daniel for minister!

AS ‘facts are emerging,’ so are events unfolding on the drama of last week involving former Ogun State governor and director-general of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

OGD, as his admirers call him, shocked not a few last week when he renounced his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and quit partisan politics.

Just as analysts and observers were wondering what could have happened came a report that he would join the All Progressives Congress (APC). His supporters, mostly women, thronged his palatial residence in Shagamu, wailing, rolling on the ground, cursing, vowing not to leave until he rescinded his decision to quit politics and lead them to the APC. Some, we were told, even held his legs, saying they would not let him go unless he agreed to take them to the APC. As a man of the people, he concurred. But less than 24 hours later came another statement saying that he was not APC-bound.

Sentry immediately went in search of the real gist, the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Before his appointment as the DG of the Atiku campaign organisation, Daniel’s political ambition was said to have been hurt when the PDP caved in to pressure from the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, to change the zoning of the national chairmanship position of the party from the South West to the South-South, with Wike-backed Uche Secondus becoming the National Chairman of the party.

While Daniel was still smarting from the injury inflicted on his plan for a shot at the chairmanship seat of PDP, and perhaps as a way of appeasing his bruised ego, he was offered an appointment as the DG of Atiku’s campaign organisation. On account of his appointment, he toured the length and breadth of the country campaigning vigorously for Atiku. But like a bolt from the blue, Atiku brought in the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as the de facto director-general of his campaign organisation, sidelining Daniel and re-designing his function. Saraki thus became the big boss and the all in all, so much so that even the disbursement of campaign funds was entirely his game.

Although Daniel was far from being a happy man, he endured the situation in the hope that Atiku would win the presidential race and he (Daniel) would be compensated or appreciated. But the election came and it was President Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who emerged victorious. Daniel’s hope was thus dashed and his expectation of serving at the federal level, perhaps as a minister, became a pipe dream.

It was in the foregoing circumstance that Dapo Abiodun, the governorship candidate of APC in Ogun State (now governor-elect) offered Daniel a window of opportunity. The two are not only kinsmen from Remo land, they have been very close friends. Abiodun was reputed to be very close to Daniel while the latter held sway as Ogun State governor. To those who know how close they had been, it was not a surprise when Daniel publicly endorsed Abiodun and disowned Buruji Kashamu, the candidate of PDP.

In the fight between Ladi Adebutu and Kashamu over the governorship ticket of the PDP in Ogun State, Daniel had supported Adebutu who, incidentally, was the candidate recognised by the party at the national level. But because of the crisis over who was the right candidate, Atiku skipped Ogun during his presidential campaign. That again infuriated Daniel who believed that Atiku should have stood by him and the candidate recognised by the party at the national level. What mattered the most at that point was principle, but Atiku was neither here nor there.

Then came the carrot Abiodun allegedly dangled before Daniel, which became the joker upon which Daniel publicly endorsed him and eventually quit the PDP. Reliable sources told Sentry that the Ogun State governor-elect had promised to nominate Daniel for ministerial appointment. President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to run an all-inclusive government; the implication being that Daniel’s chances of ministerial appointment would be brighter if he is not in PDP.

But tongues are already wagging in the state over Abiodun’s alleged promise of ministerial appointment to Daniel. Apart from the imbalance in the spread of appointments which such a gesture could cause, many are asking how Chief Olusegun Osoba and other party chieftains who worked hard for the party’s success would react to it.

  • Why Atiku picked Peter Obi as running mate

The Director General of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation, Otunba Gbenga Daniel yesterday gave reasons why former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, was picked as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement last night, Daniel said Mr. Obi’s choice was largely influenced by his youthfulness, vast knowledge of global and local economics as well as being a financial expert, all experience which Nigeria is in great need of at this point in time.

“This ticket will be able to steer our nation back on the path of progress, economic prosperity and unity,” Daniel said.

In line with its pre-primary election zoning formula, Atiku yesterday picked ex-Governor Peter Obi as his running mate for the 2019 presidential election.

With the development, the party has returned to the winning formula of the defunct National Party of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983 in which ex-President Shehu Shagari paired with the late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme.

PDP’s zoning of the VP slot to the South East was allegedly designed to woo the Igbo who had been complaining of marginalization.

Since the conclusion of PDP presidential primaries, party leaders have narrowed the choice of vice presidential candidate to the South-West and the South-East.

But Atiku and the party leadership have opted for the South-East in order to address “the marginalization of the zone.”

Already, the PDP has given a copy of the nomination form to Obi to fill with the ex-governor having audience with Atiku at about 5 pm yesterday.

It was also gathered that a South-South governor may be appointed as the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the PDP.

Investigation conducted by our correspondent revealed that the PDP leadership had presented some guidelines to Atiku on how to pick his running mate.

A top source said: “Earlier on Monday, the PDP presented guidelines to Atiku and eventually, it was agreed that ex-Governor Peter Obi fits into the criteria set out.

“The concession of the slot to the South-East was also in line with the wish of Atiku.

“In its power sharing formula, the PDP had conceded the VP slot to the South-East and reneging on the agreement would have been fatal for the party in 2019.

“Apart from being a prudent leader, Obi has rich experience in the private and public sectors which will help him manage the nation’s economy as the Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC).

“The banking sector, which is the mainstay of the nation’s economy, will have a new lease of life with Obi in charge.

“More importantly, the marginalization of the Igbo was one of the issues which PDP had promised to address.

“Since Ekwueme lost the presidential primaries to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Igbo have not had a fair share of power at the centre.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “The nomination of Obi will foster the nation’s unity and create a sense of belonging for all tribes.

“It is like a return to the winning formula of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) between 1979 and 1983. The ultimate objective of PDP is the preservation of the nation’s unity.

“More permutations by the PDP will emerge in the next few weeks. We want to make the election of the PDP a fait accompli with interplay of dynamics.”

At press time, it was gathered that a South-South governor could be appointed as the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Organization of PDP for 2019 poll.

It was learnt that the said governor is on the verge of completing his second term, a development which has narrowed the choice to Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State.

But consultations were still ongoing last night on the campaign structure.

A reliable source said: “The thinking in PDP over the DG of the 2019 campaign is to pick a governor from the South-South who is almost completing his second term.

“The idea of the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki being the DG is out of place because he leads the National Assembly, which is a strategic arm of government. He has a lot at hand; we do not want to distract him or any of the serving governors.

“I think the DG might be a PDP governor who is almost completing his second term in office.”

Although the source was not forthcoming, it was learnt that the Governor of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson, might be appointed the DG.

“Dickson played a key role in mobilising support and perfecting strategies which earned Atiku the presidential mandate, “a member of the National Working Committee of PDP added.

  • Scores injured as youths scramble for Atiku’s money in Delta

There was pandemonium Tuesday at the Unity Hall in Delta State Government House, Asaba over money allegedly released for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) delegates during the consultative visit by the ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Trouble started shortly after Atiku exited from the meeting venue when irate youths pounced on the party officials whose duty it was to allocate money to various delegates from the 25 local government areas of the State.

The scramble for the money resulted in injuries as security men shot sporadically inside the hall.

Delegates in their desperation snatched huge bundles of money and made away with others in hot pursuit around the Delta State Government House grounds.

Security personnel attached to many party leaders shot into the air to scare away the youths as the situation threatened to degenerate.

An unidentified youth who was chased around the grounds and beaten up by youths as he tried to escape with wads of naira notes.

He was stripped naked and beaten to stupor.

Torn five hundred naira notes littered the grounds as desperate youths attempted to escape with the loot.

Several hours after the ex-vice-President departed from the venue, many youths loitered around the grounds hoping for more largesse.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar Tuesday harped on the need for restructuring of the federation to make progress.

A government house press release made available to The Nation stated that the former Vice President was in the state to consult the people on his aspiration for the Presidential ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Atiku disclosed that he has been in the fore-front for the restructuring of the country since 2004, stressing it will bring out the best among Nigerians.

Alhaji Abubakar had said that his aspiration to be Nigeria’s President was borne out of his passion to ensure that the country make progress, disclosing, “the security architecture of the country must be reviewed and decentralized.”

He decried situation where security agencies does not take orders from the state governors, asserting, “As an individual, I don’t think this is true federalism, we must restructure the security architecture.”

The former Vice President also listed ways to tackle unemployment in the country observing, “to create jobs, you must liberalize the economy, support the private sector, create incentives to make the private sector boom and open up the economy to foreign direct investment.”

“I will have a very small federal government with powers and resources devolved to the states to manage the affairs while they pay tax to the federal government; with this, each zone can survive on its own without leaning on oil money,” he emphasized.

Okowa commended Atiku Abubakar for engaging in consultation visit, assuring that delegates to the Presidential Primaries of the PDP will make their decisions based on acceptability, reach, experience and level of intelligence of the individual aspirants.

He urged the aspirant not to relent in moving to different states of the country, stating that more efforts should be made for the PDP to be in control of more states of the country to enable it clinch the Presidential position in 2019.

Others who spoke at the event include, former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, his Imo State counterpart, Chief Achike Udenwa, former Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, among others.

  • I’m a crisis manager, able to lead PDP – Daniel

I’m a crisis manager, able to lead PDP – Daniel

Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun State, says he is a crisis manager, and best suited to lead the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as national chairman to regain power in 2019.

Daniel is one of the aspirants eying the national chairmanship position of the party, to be determined through election at its Dec. 9 convention.

He was in Kogi on Wednesday for a  meeting with the party delegates from the state to seek their support.

Daniel said he could lead the PDP to bounce back and  “change the change” at the federal and state levels it had lost, come 2019.

He described the PDP prior to the 2015 elections as crises-ridden and promised to deal decisively with all the crisis that bedevilled the party and robbed it of its prime position in the country.

“I’m a crisis manager as I have just told you; and not only that.

“ I’m a tested hand. I understand what it means to run an election. I have manned a state before and I have managed people.

“The bulk of the challenge we have in the party is just people’s management.

”For you to be successful, you must have the capacity to manage interlocking interests.

“As crisis managers, we must strive very hard to underplay areas of division”, he said.

The former governor said he was presenting himself for the position of the national chairman to rebuild the party.

Daniel attributed PDP’s defeat in the just concluded Anambra governorship election to imposition of candidate.

He promised to entrench the culture of internal democracy, if successful in his bid at the forthcoming convention.

Responding, State Chairman of PDP, Mr Sam Ohuotu, commended the former governor and his team for bringing their campaign train to Kogi, assuring him of members’ support.

Ohuotu described the aspirant as a leader with capacity to lead the party to victory in view of his antecedents.

He, however. warned that it was not going to be a smooth sail, saying: “if we start by attacking ourselves from the beginning, then we have lost it’’.

“My opinion therefore is that there might be issues, but we must not personalise such issues, and I believe we will resolve our issues. Regrettably, we didn’t show that we have learnt any lesson.

“From my own little investigation, people said that the PDP candidate in Anambra election was a good candidate.

“But what we keep hearing was that the process that brought that candidate was faulty and that is precisely what I keep talking about.

“That this is about management of human beings. We could still have brought that up without pressing on anybody’s head,” he said.

Ohuotu, however, declared that the PDP was poised to bounce back in 2019, as the ruling party was not doing enough for the people.

  • Daniel blames Sheriff Loyalists for Ogun PDP crisis

Daniel blames Sheriff Loyalists for Ogun PDP crisis

An aspirant for the national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP ), Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has blamed the leadership crisis in the state’s chapter of the party on the loyalists of the sacked national chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff.

Daniel, who was governor of Ogun State from 2003-2011, spoke with journalists on Wednesday shortly after he collected his nomination papers at the Abuja secretariat of the PDP.

He described the crisis as a play-off of the Sheriff-Makarfi tussle that lasted 14 months before the Supreme Court eventually sacked Sheriff in a July 12 judgment.

Two factions emerged from a recently conducted congress in Ogun, with both factions laying claim to the leadership of the chapter.

The national leadership of the PDP had, on August 23, set up a Caretaker Committee for the chapter, with Mr. Tunde Odanye as chairman.

But in a swift reaction, another group, led by a serving senator representing Ogun East senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu had rejected the Odanye-led caretaker committee from the outset.

Daniel however said the crisis in the chapter would not affect his chances of winning the chairmanship seat in the December 9 national convention.

“This crisis is not peculiar to Ogun State because many state chapters are experiencing crisis. Only that the crisis in Ogun is more reported than others”, Daniel said.

The ex-governor described his ongoing trial for alleged corruption as mere persecution, saying that also, would not work against his aspiration.

Readd: PDP crises grow in states

He insisted that he remained innocent of all the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), until proven otherwise by a competent court.

“I don’t want to go into the politics of our own state but I am very sure that there is really no issue about my trial. If there is issue, I will not come to say I want to be chairman. And when you look at what is going on now in our country, who is in PDP that is not being tried?

“Virtually everybody who is in PDP is being tried for one thing or the other. They are being arrested on a daily basis and I think the media has a lot of work to report what is going on. As far as I am concerned, I cannot pronounce myself as innocent but I know that I am innocent”, he said.

Otunba Daniel slammed some members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) for attempting to exclude him and a few other aspirants from the chairmanship race without consulting the affected aspirants.
