  • Otunba Lekan Osifeso’s birthday surprise

A new and interesting trend is emerging among highbrow socialites. As they grow older, they tend to leave behind their extravagant ways, settling for low-key lifestyle. The trend seems to be more pronounced among socialites who are advancing in years.

And the trend is visible not just in their general lifestyle but also when they have one thing or the other to celebrate. Rather than throw mouth-watering shindigs, they prefer to hold simple ceremonies that fly under the radar.

The latest to be bitten by this bug is Otunba Lekan Osifeso, the Executive Chairman of EBLA Construction Limited and Lekai Group of Companies. The popular socialite turned a year older on Wednesday. Incidentally his birthday fell on the day the Akwa-Ibom Ibom State governor, Deacon Emmanuel Udom, flagged off the construction of 55.1-kilometre Ibom super highway, a project handled by Osifeso’s EBLA Construction Limited.

It was double celebrations for the Ijebu-born businessman. After the flag off ceremony , instead of throwing a big party, he settled for showing his philanthropic side by spending the day with the less-privileged. He visited several orphanages and showered the excited inmates with gifts.

  • Otunba Lekan Osifeso in unusual birthday celebration

Otunba Lekan Osifeso, popular socialite and Chairman Lekai Construction Company, one of the big names in construction business in Nigeria, a few days ago added another year to his age. But the ijebu-Ode born politician did not roll out the drums. Neither was champagne popped as was expected from a socialite of his pedigree.

Otunba Osifeso opted for a low-key celebration and chose to celebrate with the needy. Otunba showed his philanthropic side by visiting several orphanage homes in Abuja to donate handsomely to them.

The well connected socialite seems quieter than ever these days, concentrating more on his business. He seems to be letting go of his old ways, preferring to devote a few naira only to important celebrations.

THOSE who know Otunba Lekan Osifeso, popular socialite and Chairman of Lekai Group of Companies, would attest to the fact that although he was born into an aristocratic family, he derives a lot of pleasure from mingling with ordinary people.

Not even his detractors would deny the fact that he does not find it difficult to share and spread love. As it has become customary for the President of the Association of Indigenous Contractors, the month of Ramadan has provided another opportunity to show his humanitarian side. Since the Ramdan fast began last Sunday, the gates of his mansion have been open for the Muslim faithful to break their fast with free meals.

Reports say that in the process, the Otunba Adeshemowo of Ijebuland has also provided employments for caterers, whose services he has secured to ensure that sumptuous and hygienic meals are provided in large quantity. Still fresh in the memory of many is the launch of a foundation named after his father sometime ago.

Less than two months ago, he was conferred with the Special Recognition Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day for his contribution to the growth of the union. Not surprisingly, many think he might be doing all this to prepare the ground for his advent into politics. But those who should know insist that Osifeso has distaste for politics. The months ahead will certainly lay the controversy to rest.

One who has gone ahead has gone far. That is one saying whose veracity has been reinforced by the life of the President of the Association of Indeginous Contractors, Otunba Lekan Osifeso. He was honoured last Saturday with the Special Recognition Awards by the Nigeria Union of Journalists on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day.

The event, which was held at Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, saw the umbrella body of journalists acknowledging the contributions of the Otunba Adeshemowo of Ijebuland to the growth of the association. The Ijebu-born contractor, who has built a global brand in his company, Lekai Nigeria Limited, is a study in the power of determination.

Osifeso appears to have found early in life that diligence would take him to where luck would not. As such, he has been giving his all to his business. Lekai is one of the few indigenous companies that are leading the way in the construction sector. He has managed to become a major force in the effort to address unemployment and youth restiveness in Ogun State by taking many jobless youths off the streets.
