    ‘We’re strengthening girls’ potential to overcome challenges’

    The foundation arm of Cakasa Nigeria Company Limited, Cakasa  Ebenezer Foundation (CEF) has partnered Ornaments of Grace and Virtues Initiative (OGAV) on a two-week Girl’s Leadership & Mentoring (GLAM) Summer Camp.

    Managing Director, Barnabas Olise, noted the partnership would strengthen the girls’ potential to overcome life’s challenges and excel.

     In its 11th edition, the summer camp is underway at Government Senior Secondary School, Agege, Lagos.

    Olise, represented by CEF’s Executive Director, Mrs. Helen Egbe, said: “At Cakasa Nigeria Company Limited, we believe in the power of education and the potential of our youth. This camp is a testament to our commitment to nurturing leaders of tomorrow. We are honoured to partner OGAV, an organisation that shares our vision of empowering young girls to greatness.

    “This camp is a journey of self-discovery, learning, and growth. In the next few days, you will engage in activities to build your confidence, enhance your skills, and inspire you to dream big. You will learn from accomplished mentors, make new friends, and explore new horizons.”

    Referencing Pakistani education activist, Malala Yousafzai, he urged the girls to believe in their ability to change the world through education and skill acquisition.

    Olise said: “To the young ladies here, your dreams, aspirations, and hard work will shape Nigeria of tomorrow. Embrace this with open hearts and minds. Learn, grow, and let your light shine.”

    The managing director thanked OGAV and CEF teams for their passion in empowering young girls and for making the camp a reality.

    Egbe urged the girls to be diligent to make a difference in society.

    OGAV’s Chief Executive Officer, Olubusola Kolade, said GLAM 2024’s focus is “academics – career exploration, soft skills, health & wellness as well as financial literacy.”

    “At OGAV’s core is our goal to empower girls to make informed career choices and pursue their aspirations. Education is key to transformation. A sure way to avert poverty is through education, she noted.

    “Our objective is to empower girls… This is where parents’ input, care and observations are important; to help actualise the talents & skills.

    “As we create a safe space for you to have fun while learning, you must have a goal to achieve in these two weeks: to know who you are and choose careers that best suit your personality.”

    A 2019 beneficiary of CEF Two-Tier scholarship, Bakare Zainab, encouraged the girls to take make a difference.

    Guests and participants at the event included officials of Lagos State ministries of Education; Youth and Social Development, Lions Club and over 1,000 pupils.

    Permanent Secretary of Education District 1, Adeboye Bashir Adebowale, thanked CEF and OGAV for continuing with GLAM despite the challenging economy.

    He urged the girls to cooperate with camp facilitators.

    “I represented my chairman last year and I am amazed at the number of participants this year. Despite the daunting economy, the number is more than last year’s. You are empowering future generations,” Adebowale said.

    Mrs Onipede Adeshola, representing Ministry of Youth and Sports, sensitised the girls to how they can protect themselves from persons seeking to exploit them.

    The New Seraph urges patience, prayer for Nigeria to overcome challenges

    The current challenges facing Nigeria are not of recent origin, but rather a culmination of years of systemic failures,  founder of The New Seraph, Iya Aladura General, Dr. Yomi-Sholoye has said.

    She spoke at a news conference to announce The New Seraph 2024 Annual General Conference.

    Dr. Yomi-Sholoye said that the present situation of the country did not begin today. It’s cumulative. If you ask me, it’s been cumulative for a long time .

    She expressed profound gratitude for the church’s resilience and growth over the past century, attributing it to divine providence.

    She emphasized the need for proactive measures in shaping the future of the church.

     Under the banner of “A Paradigm Shift,” she called for collective action to ensure a positive trajectory for the C&S Church, stressing the importance of growth and progress.

    Notable dignitaries, government representatives, and royal figures are expected to grace the opening ceremony.

    The news conference, held in the presence of eminent Seraphs, district heads, church leaders, members, friends of the Cherubim & Seraphim Churchmembers of the press, and distinguished guests, outlined the pivotal role this conference will play in shaping the future of the &S church.

    With the theme: “Approaching C&S Centenary; Shaping the Future,” the conference serves as a prelude to the upcoming centenary celebration of the C&S Church next year. .

    Renowned speakers and panelists, including Pastor Thomas Adekunle Fakile JP, Pastor Tosin Faremi, Sar Leader Jesubi Temitope, Moth. Bola Odeyinde, Reverend Ola Joseph Okikimile, Evang Tunde Jedidah, and Ap. Seyi Odufuwa, will lead discussions on charting the course for the future of the church, while Chief panelists Supt Ap. Eng’r. Niyi Afolabi and Supt. Ap. Olatunde Ogunkunle will provide invaluable insights during the conference sessions.

    The conference schedule encompasses a range of activities, including lectures, panel discussions, and a variety night, culminating in a national stakeholders meeting with Her Grace Iya Aladura General on the second day.

    To ensure the safety and convenience of all delegates, robust security and traffic control measures have been implemented.

    Highlighting the need for patience and collective action, Dr. Yomi-Sholoye called upon Nigerians to exercise faith and prayer. “So I will tell Nigerians that we need to be patient. One, we need to pray for this government. We need to pray for our leaders. They need our prayers. Especially at this time. We need to pray for the right sense of direction for our leaders. We cannot do it without God. They need our prayers.”

    Moreover, the President stressed the importance of practical action and solidarity among citizens. “And in addition to all this, I’ll say, let us cut our coat according to our size. This time is a time that we should do what is most important. Not frivolous things. What you know that you are in need for. It’s a time that we need to be highly disciplined.

    “It’s a time that some of us need to show love to one another. If you are gifted, if the Lord blesses you. Show that blessing to the next person,” she said.
