  • Monarchs back Oyetola for Osun governor

Traditional rulers and chiefs in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, the home of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 22 governorship election, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, have expressed their support for him.

They addressed reporters on Tuesday in solidarity for his candidature at Iragbiji, headquarters of the local government and Oyetola’s hometown.

On behalf of other monarchs, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, described Oyetola as their son, a responsible, God-fearing and capable man to occupy the position of the governor.

Among the monarchs at the event were the Olona of Ada, Oba Abimbola Abioye; the Alaagba of Aagba, Oba Rufus Ogunwole and the Olororuwo of Ororuwo, Oba Qamarudeen Adeyanju.

Oba Olabomi said: “Oyetola is neither a Lagosian nor a foreigner, as some people want the people of Osun State to believe. He has been a community man, playing active roles in the development of Iragbiji and Boripe Local Government Area for more than three decades. An insinuation that he is not one of us is a mere farce.

“We know Oyetola as a philanthropist whose kindness, without noise, is unprecedented and noteworthy. He has helped many youths with educational scholarship and women through empowerment programmes.

“We also know him to be very intelligent, industrious, people-friendly, full of capacity to serve, respectful and virtuous. We know his family background. Through his neighbours, friends and acquaintances and other members of the public, we know he is most qualified to receive the baton from a visionary and courageous Governor Rauf Aregbeosla.

  • Osun West monarchs to support Oyetola

The traditional rulers of Ile-Ogbo, Kuta, Ikoyi and Oluponno in Ayedire Local Government Area in Osun West Senatorial District have assured the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 22 governorship election, Mr. Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, of their support.

They spoke in turn as they received the team of IleriOluwa Campaign Organisation, led by Mr. Oyetola, in their palaces.

The royal fathers rallied support of their people for the APC candidate.

The monarchs said they were confident that Oyetola would not let the people down.

The Olu of Ile-Ogbo, Oba Abeeb Adetoyese Agbaje, said he was impressed by Oyetola’s profile but advised him to ensure even development of the state, as seen under the Rauf Aregbesola administration.

A statement by the Media Officer of the IleriOluwa Campaign Organisation, Dayo Fasola, said the Olu of Ile-Ogbo told his people that he invited Oyetola to the community as mark of honour.

He said: “I am delighted to have you here. We invited you to receive our blessings. We have identified in you our good qualities of a governor and leader and we are ready to massively support your aspiration to ensure your success.

“If we deliver at least 24,000 out of our 25,000 votes, which is our electoral strength, would anybody object to that? No! We are for you and so shall it be. I would implore you however not forget Ile-Ogbo when you become the governor.”

The Olowu of Kuta, Oba Oyelude Adekunle Makama, said: “Sir, Omoluabi Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, people who know me would tell you I don’t mince words. I am a straightforward king. I want your assurance that Osun would continue to advance during your tenure. Our economy, agriculture, education and other sector must not go down because you already have our votes here in Kuta.”

The Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Oba Afeez Adigun Badeji, urged his people to support the APC candidate, saying: “Our votes here in Ikoyi are for no one else but Alhaji Oyetola.”

The Olupo of Oluponno, Oba Onaolapo Oyeleso Oyebamiji, said: “There is a hundred per cent assurance that you will be our next governor. We invited you to our town, Oluponno, for blessings from my throne.”

Oyetola said he had been energised by the support he received from the communities.

The APC candidate, who promised to rededicate himself to the service of the state, added: “I thank our fathers and their people for receiving me with open arms. I am giving you an assurance that I am indeed here to serve. In the end, Osun people will have nothing but prayers for me.”

  • Osun 2018: ‘Oyetola is best to succeed Aregbesola’

The deputy national youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Afeez Bolaji Repete, has described the candidate of the party for the September 22nd Osun governorship election, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, as the “best man to succeed Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Repete, who spoke while handing over his team’s campaign materials, including posters and educational booklets in support of IleriOluwa Campaign Organisation in Osogbo, the state capital, said Osun State deserved the best to carry on from where the incumbent governor will stop his “visionary tenure.”

He said the Aregbesola administration, no doubt, has performed excellently in all sectors of the economy in the last eight years.

He said Oyetola as a major contributor to the administration would not let down the people of the state if elected into office as governor.

In a statement by the Media Officer of IleriOluwa Campaign Organisation, Dayo Fasola, the youth leader was quoted to have said that “governance is no longer business as usual. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s administration has shown that so much can be acquired with so little and within the span of eight years. So we are here to contribute our own quota in our own little way.”

Also, aspirant of the APC for the House of Representatives, representing Olorunda/Osogbo/Irepodun/Orolu federal constituency, Engr. Sola Oladepo; aspirant for House of Representatives in Ife federal constituency, Prince Sikiru Ayedun, and their counterpart to represent Obokun/Oriade federal constituency, Arch. Babatunde Desmond Ojo, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Aregbesola administration.

Responding, Oyetola expressed joy for the gestures and promised to live up to the expectations of the people of the state. He said: “I am always humbled by the people’s display of support for my aspiration. From God and your support, I have drawn a great strength to move on.”

  • Oyetola: lovers of development will vote for APC

The Osun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, has said those yearning for continued development in the state will massively vote for him and the party in the September 22 election.

Addressing members of the Forum of the Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), who visited him at his IleriOluwa Campaign Office on Gbongan Road in Osogbo, the state capital, Oyetola said the election would be another key to prosperity and productive era for Osun State.

He pledged to provide an enabling environment for wealth and job creation for the residents.

According to him, votes for him will further propel development and ensure positive economic turnaround for the state.

Oyetola, who is the Chief of Staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, said his victory would be for everybody, adding that he is just the symbol to take the state to the next level from where “our leader and performing governor will stop his good work”.

The APC candidate urged lovers of progress to join hands with him to defeat his opponents at the poll.

The chairman of the forum, Bashir Lawal, hailed Oyetola for extending the olive branch to his former rivals during the July 21 party primary.

Also, prominent indigenes of Osun State have endorsed Oyetola.

They endorsed the APC candidate during their visit to his Iragbiji country home and IleriOluwa Campaign Organisation in Osogbo.

A community leader in Ede, Bashir Biodun Adewimbi, a retired Brigadier-General, assured Oyetola that the people of Ede Federal Constituency were behind him.

A statement by the Media Officer of the campaign organisation, Dayo Fasola, said the Ede community leader said he and his people believed Oyetola is most qualified among the contestants.

From Ile Ife and environs, 12 traditional rulers have pledged the support of their domains to the APC candidate.

Leading the monarchs, the Asoya of Ile Isoya, Oba Muraina Babatunde, extolled the APC candidate’s virtues, advising him to ensure that he runs an issue-based campaign.

The APC Elders’ Council in the state, led by Alhaji Wale Lasisi, is also supporting Oyetola.

The council said the administration in which he has been serving as Chief of Staff to the Governor for almost eight years is the best in the history of the state.

Lasisi, who is the chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, noted that Oyetola is the best man to succeed Aregbesola.

He expressed confidence that the residents and indigenes of Osogbo will continue to enjoy further dividends of democracy from the incoming government of the APC, “which certainly will continue and consolidate on the sterling performance of the Aregbesola administration”.

  • I will lead Osun with fear of God, Oyetola assures Imams, Alfas

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in September 22 Osun State governorship election, Mr. Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, has pledged to rule the state with the fear of God if elected into office. He promised to be fair to all, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, social and economic status.

Speaking yesterday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, after a prayer session with Imams and Alfas in Osun State, he explained why he came out very late to express his intention for the exalted office. Oyetola said he took his time to seek the face of God and to consult widely before taking the decision to join the governorship race. According to him, he resolved to vie for the governorship position after receiving an assurance that it was the will of God to do so, adding that he must make efforts and ask for people’s support to make  God’s plan come to fruition.

The governorship candidate, who is also the Chief of Staff to Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, solicited the support of the Imams and Alfas in the state, noting that “your prayers could make a whole lot happen.” Oyetola, who said he would never promise what he could not deliver, assured that he would live up to expectations of the people because “I have been around in the state for enough time to know how the people feel and what they need.”

Making reference to his pedigree as a son of a Chief of Imam, he promised to give due recognition to religious leaders.

  • Oyetola to consolidate on Aregbesola’s achievements

•APC candidate meets with Osun group

The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the September 22 election, Mr. Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, at the weekend met with members of a leading socio-political group in the state, the Osun Positive Force (OPF.)

He assured them of running an all-inclusive government, if elected into office.

Addressing the group at the Government House Annex at Okefia in Osogbo, the state capital, the APC candidate said he would consolidate on the achievements of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Oyetola, who is also the Chief of Staff to the Governor, expressed gratitude to members of the  OPF and the APC during the party’s recent primary.

Assuring not to disappoint them, the APC candidate said he is in the best position to continue and sustain the giant strides of the current administration in the state.

He said he carefully picked the name, Ileri-Oluwa (God’s Own Project) as his campaign slogan to reflect the “Supremacy of God”.

Oyetola called for the people’s support in the forthcoming poll.

The APC candidate, who hailed Aregbesola for transforming the state in the last eight years, said he was fulfilled working with the governor.

He described Aregbesola as a great man and a most resourceful, consummate and creative governor in the history of Osun State.

He said: “I seek your hand in partnership as the flag bearer of our party. I want to build on the giant strides already made by the current administration of Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola. Having been a privileged member of the team that has brought the current transformation to our state in the last seven and a half years, I know what the issues are. I know what our people need is an agenda of continuity and revitalisation that will deepen the current gains in infrastructural development.”

He urged those who had not collected their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), including OPF members, to collect them and educate others around them to do so.

The founder of the group, who also doubles as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, praised God for giving Oyetola to the party.

He said: “We are happy because God answered our prayers. The last time we met here, less than two weeks ago, all of us collectively resolved to support Alhaji Oyetola as the flag bearer of our great party, the APC.

“By His grace, God assisted us to perform excellently well to the extent that the margin between our aspirant and other aspirants is so wide than the distance between East and West. We give thanks to God.

“We also give thanks to God for the success of our party’s direct primary. All logistics problem was surmounted without any security incident in the 332 wards. This is also commendable for our party and for members and leaders of OPF.

“We also thank God that of all the aspirants, majority of them, have come back to accept the verdict of the party. They have pledged their support for the party. All those aspirants: we thank them and we pray that God will be with them as they continue to support the effort of the party.”

He urged members of the OPF to canvass for Oyetola to make him and the APC win the September 22 governorship election.

  • Oyetola will build on Aregbesola’s legacies, says Adewole

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has assured residents of Osun State the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 22 governorship election, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, will consolidate on the legacies of outgoing Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Adewole spoke during a visit to the Ilerioluwa office of the Gboyega Oyetola Campaign Organisation in Osogbo, the capital.

He said: “Over time, I have convinced myself that we need someone who can build on the infrastructure Aregbesola has put in place, someone who can continue with good speed and in the right direction. I’m happy the larger percentage of APC members found you worthy. I have no doubt in my mind that you will perform excellently well on assumption of office, by the special grace of God.”

On the outcome of the party’s primary, he said: “In this contest, there’s no winner, there’s no vanquished. I am happy you have kick-started the process of reconciliation, which is a good attribute of sportsmanship.

“The presence of other aspirants, like Dr. Ismail Saka-Layonu and Chief Olugboyega Alabi, in your office today is a testament to your humility. We must all work together to win the coming election.”

Pledging his loyalty to the party and its candidate, the minister said he would support the project.

He said: “While I will use this medium to thank Mr. Governor, our party chairman and the leaders of the party across the state for the steadfastness in steering the ship of the state, I charge us all to deliver Osun not only to ourselves but deliver it in September 2018 and in the 2019 general elections.”

  • Osun APC candidate Oyetola to boost IGR

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the September 22 governorship election in Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, said on Monday he would boost the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) if elected into office.

Oyetola assured civil servants in the state he would pay their salary arrears within 12 months of assuming office.

He also said Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration has paid up to date, salaries of junior workers in the state.

Oyetola stated these at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

He was at the party secretariat to formalize his governorship bid and subsequently forward the documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for processing in readiness for the governorship election.

He said the decision of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, to contest the election in another party would not affect his chances in the poll.

He said: “First of all, most states in Nigeria are challenged by paucity of funds. But there is this misconception about Osun State on workers’ salaries. We pay salary regularly, from level one to seven. We are not owing anybody in that category. We pay at least 75 per cent of those on level 8 to 10. Those we are owing are those on level 12 to 17 and the pensioners.

“So, when you talk about workers’ salaries, people tend to forget that it is not across board. Salaries for those on level one to seven are paid up to date. For Level 8 to 10, we pay 75 per cent. For level 12 to 17 they are being paid 50 per cent.

“Yes, it is a challenge that we all recognize. But we believe that will not persist for too long. My attitude and the method I want to adopt is not to entirely rely on allocation that comes from the federal government but to look at ways to seriously develop the IGR, not necessarily by increasing tax, but by ensuring efficiency in terms of collection and by bringing people who have been evading tax to come into the bracket. You can still get more by doing all of that without necessarily increasing tax.

“So we are committed to paying whatever that is outstanding and we are looking forward to paying the full salaries subsequently. In any case, why do we want to be in government if we cannot think outside the box? We must be very creative, that is the essence of being in government anyway. I believe in another one year things would have changed for better.”

“Well, the SSG is my brother. I would have loved that he remained in the party. But as a matter of choice, he decided to leave the party. There is nothing anybody can do about that.

“But on whether it will affect my fortune during the election; I don’t think so. One, if you look at the result of that election, I had 127,000 votes. These are purely members of our party. We are going to have the opportunity of other voters.

“On the average, we usually have about 600, 000 or so of serious voters. If you look at the percentage of that from members of our party alone and with the kind of programme I want to run, and the fact that people seem to have that level of trust in me, I believe I will have more not only from the APC which is our base, even from the generality of the people.

“So, I wish him well. He is somebody I have some regards for too.  Sometimes politics is like that. You part and meet again. I wish him well.”

  • Oyetola emerges Osun APC governorship candidate

Oyetola who currently serves as Chief of Staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola  came tops in the party’s direct primaries held yesterday with 127,017 votes .

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege announced Oyetola’s victory last night on behalf of the chairman of the 5-member   electoral panel, Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari of Zamfara State.

The Secretary to the State government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, Senator Babajide Omoworare, and Elder Peter Babalola, pulled out of the race moments before the commencement of the process.

Adeoti hinged his action  on “his resolve to abide by a resolution of the Osun West Senatorial District wing of the party dissociating itself from the exercise.”

But he said “he is still very much in the race to contest and win the governorship election come September 22, 2018.”

On his part,Omoworare said he would not  “present his ward agents, mobilise his supporters or deploy resources” for the primaries “in view of obvious political realities which are beyond our control.”

He added: “this development is with the ultimate view of ensuring party cohesion and for All Progressives Congress to secure victory at the September 22nd governorship election in the state

  • Oyetola: Why I should succeed Aregbesola

Gboyega Oyetola, Chief of Staff to Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, is among the 17 governorship aspirants in the All Progressives Congress (APC). Group Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU examines his chances at the primary.

He is not controversial. He prefers to work behind the scene. He loathes public glitz. Despite the enormous influence he wields, he is reticent, humble and unassuming. Although he is perceived as the major pillar behind the Rauf Aregbesola administration, he has never displayed the peculiar trait of a political gladiator. He is loyal, non-combative and goal-oriented.

However, having worked assiduously to ensure the success of his boss, reality dawned on him that, for the legacies to be protected, there is need for continuity. Governor Rauf Aregbesola will bow out of office in November. The question is: who succeeds him? No fewer than 17 aspirants are scrambling for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the September 22 election. But, according to observers, Gboyega Oyetola, the Chief of Staff, stands tall among the contenders. He is a technocrat with a difference. Many believe that Osun will gain a lot from his experience and savour more dividends of democracy like Lagos State under the indefatigable leadership of former Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and his successor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

So popular is the suave and urbane ‘politician’ from Iragbiji that those who cannot measure up to him are evolving the previously non-existing criterion of zoning to edge him out of the race. While zoning did not play any role in the emergence of former Governors Bisi Akande, Olagiunsoye Oyinlola and Aregbesola, external forces have instigated some party chieftains to intensify their agitation for power shift or zoning to Osun West to knock out the Chief of Staff, who is from the Central District.

A man of many parts with vast experience in politics, finance management, business and public administration, Oyetola is a man of deep conviction and a religious devout, who has progressed in his endeavours through the grace of God, the dint of hard work and uncompromising position integrity. In appreciation of his loyal services, Aregbesola has acknowledged him as the cornerstone of his government, who has endowed his office with honour and wisdom, unlike some chiefs of staff in other states who have earned public condemnation. In the time of crisis, Oyetola has handled government/union relations, thereby earning the applause of political leaders and civil servants.

Born in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government, Oyetola attended Ifeoluwa Grammar School in Osogbo before proceeding to the University of Lagos, Akoka where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree in Insurance in 1978. He obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1990 from the same institution. He did his mandatory one year National Youth Service between 1978 and 1979 at Potiskum, Yobe State, where he lectured at the Staff Training Centre.

In 1980, he joined Leadway Assurance Company Limited as Area Manager. In 1987, he left for Crusader Insurance Company Limited as Underwriting Manager. In 1990, he moved to Alliance and General Insurance as Technical Controller and served in that capacity until 1991.

In 1991, he established Silvertrust Insurance Brokers Limited. He served as Managing Director until his appointment as Chief of Staff in 2011. Oyetola was Executive Vice-Chairman, Paragon Group of Companies, with interest in Oil and Gas, Mining and Real Estate. He was also Chairman of Ebony Properties Limited. He was a Director of Pyramid Securities Limited.

Oyetola was a founding member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Osun State. He was a chieftain of the defunct Action Congress (AC) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN). Although he is not a political noise maker, he is a silent worker and effective grassroots mobiliser. He is a philanthropist of note, who has empowered many indigenes. No fewer than 400 people have benefited from his scholarship scheme for indigene students.

    For his public service, he has received many honours and awards. They include Distinguished Merit Award by Ifeoluwa Grammar School, Osogbo (2014), the Guardian Award for Exceptional Chief of Staff in the Federation (2017); Distinguished Award of Excellence in Public Administration by Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council (2015), Leadership Award for Outstanding Performance by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Osogbo Branch (2016); Award of Excellence by Osun State University, College of Law, Ifetedo (2016); Award of Excellence as ICON of Good Governance by Network of Non-Governmental Organisation (NETNOS) State of Osun Branch. November, 2017; Award for Exemplary and Exceptional Support and Fellow of Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke, January 2017; Grand Patron of the Local Government Chapel of Osun State NUJ, November 2016; and Leadership Award by International Association of Lions Club, District 404B2, Nigeria, February 2016;

Others are NAOSS-NHQ Award of Excellence in Administration and Good Governance, May 2016; Award of Excellence in Public Administration by Rotary Club of Osogbo, Rotary International, July 2016; Meritorious Award by NAOSS, Obafemi Awolowo University Chapter, February 2017; African Students Union Parliament (ASUP), and Pan-African Distinguished Leadership Honour as Icon of Nation Building in Nigeria 2018.

Oyetola is an Associate Member, Chattered Insurance Institute of London and Nigeria. He is also a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM). He is a member of the prestigious Ikoyi Club. He is married with children.

Declaring his intention in Osogbo, the state capital, he adopted the slogan: Ileri Oluwa (God’s promise). Oyetola noted that, in the last seven and half years, he has been actively involved in “service-driven governance, a government of purposefulness, of untainted vision and of courageous leadership,” which has resulted into “massive infrastructural renewal and revolution in agriculture, education, job/wealth creation, health and other social investments.”

The aspirant said on the threshold of history. He said he decided to offer himself for leadership and service, to take Osun to greater heights by buiding on the giant strides of the Aregbesola administration. He added: “Having been a privileged member of the team that has brought the current transformation our state has witnessed these past seven and a half years, I know what the issues are. I know what our people need is an agenda of continuity and revitalization that will deepen the current gains in infrastructural development.

“I know what we need is to continue to work and even harder to increase our revenue base to support the payment of salaries, pensions and other deserved emoluments of our teeming workers. In furtherance of the enormous achievements we have already made, we need a leader with steady hands, whose words are his bond, who can further invest in the prosperity of our people.

“We need a bridge builder, who would continue with the leadership values of the incumbent administration to unite our people, inspire them to jettison primordial sentiments and work for the development of their people, and secure a prosperous state for the benefits of our generations yet unborn. What our state needs urgently is to further soar with inclusive, innovative and unwavering governance. We cannot afford to retrogress. Not anymore. The job at hand is too urgent to be left alone for just anyone unprepared.”

Oyetola promised a government of prosperity, saying that, if elected as governor, his administration will come up with stronger strategies to ensure prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, pursue workers’ welfare, seek a gradual and inclusive civil service reform, make the work environment more conducive, stimulate development, introduced reward mechanisms and keep workers morale high. He said he will promote an enviable culture of excellence and service.

Raising and spending of money is the business of government. Oyetola reflected on the poor revenue base of the state. He said: “We will, working with our well-meaning bureaucrats, urgently increase our internally generated revenue (IGR) base, block all leakages and waste of the Osun commonwealth.”

He added: “While working even harder to improve our IGR, we will specifically continue to cut leakages in tax collection and tax administration processes. Consequently, we will run a transparent and accountable government, steeped in single-minded pursuit of reducing dependence on federal allocation as a means of funding government.”

Oyetola also unfolded his programme in education, which he said, will build on the achievements of Aregbesola in the sector. The aspirant said there will be an innovative way of providing jobs for unemployed youths. He said: “Job creation is uppermost in my mind. A study that we commissioned has indicated that 25-30 factories employing over 30,000 workers can be created within a period of three to four years across the length and breadth of the State of Osun.

“I will therefore, pay critical attention to the establishment of light manufacturing industries, such as those focusing on agricultural processing, meat and fish preservation and packaging, leather goods, building materials production, woodworks etc.  This is because Osun has the necessary inputs for a competitive labour intensive manufacturing sector.”

Oyetola also said he will continue to fight the infrastructure battle in the State of Living Springs.

He said: “With the PPP model, our administration will focus on upgrading facilities and infrastructure available for education, health, sporting activities, skill acquisition, poverty alleviation and environmental care.”

Oyetola promised to boost agriculture and food security by strengthening the laudable programmes introduced by Aregbesola
