Oyo State Police Command has recovered the remains of five Forest Rangers killed at the National Park Service Office, Oloka, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The remains, according to the Command’s Spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, were recovered on Wednesday while the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Femi Haruna led other security chiefs for an on-the spot assessment of the scene.
The CP, it was gathered, was accompanied by heads of sister security agencies and the Commandant of the National Forest Rangers.
The police also said tactical teams including Mobile Police Force officer of the NPF and EOD have been deployed to the affected area, on the orders of the CP to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Painting a picture of how the crime was committed, Olayinka said preliminary reports indicate that the attackers, numbering about 12, emerged from adjoining bushes, opened sporadic gunfire on the Rangers’ Office and fled the scene.
He said investigation had commenced and credible evidence already yielding promising leads to aid the identification, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible.
The Nation reports that suspected gunmen attacked the facility on Tuesday, leaving five officers dead.
Olayinka said contrary to some media reports, the attack was solely directed at the National Forest Rangers’ Office but the swift, proactive deployment of police personnel prevented any further escalation in the surrounding community.
He also pointed out that the site has been forensically swept to collect all available evidence.
He said during the visit of the CP to assess the security situation of the facility, he also held an interactive session with community leaders of Oloka Community, where he expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives and reassured them of the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
He noted that immediately upon receiving information about the attack, the CP deployed all available operatives and operational assets to the area, preventing further attack by the assailants and averting a potential breakdown of law and order.
Oyo State Police Command on Friday said it is ready to ensure a hitch-free activity before, during, and after the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party slated for Ibadan, the Oyo State capital city, on Saturday and Sunday.
In a statement, the spokesman of the Command, Adewale Osifeso, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said the Command is ramping up security measures to guarantee a safe and peaceful event.
He added that, anticipating a large turnout, the Command, in partnership with other sister services, has meticulously developed a robust security strategy which includes proactive patrols designed to build public confidence, increased surveillance activities, and intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations throughout the state.
He also issues a clear warning against any forms of public unrest, including unauthorized rallies or gatherings within the city before, during, or after the event.
He furthered that attention will be heightened at all key access points into and out of Oyo State, especially around the convention venue, adding that critical locations such as public parks, train stations, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan will be closely monitored.
The statement reads in part, “With the upcoming National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party taking place on Saturday, 15th, and Sunday, 16th November 2025, at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, the Oyo State Police Command is ramping up security measures to guarantee a safe and peaceful event.
“This significant gathering is set to attract key political figures, international observers, media representatives, guests, and participants from across the nation.
“Anticipating a large turnout, the Oyo State Police Command, in partnership with other sister services, has meticulously developed a robust security strategy.
“This strategy includes proactive patrols designed to build public confidence, increased surveillance activities, and intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations throughout the state.

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a “prophet” of Cherubim and Seraphim, Dotun Ogunlade (aka Arole Jesu), for allegedly killing a 25-year-old housewife, Bosede Oguntade, for money rituals.
Ogunlade was said to have started a friendship with Mrs Oguntade on facebook.
The police said the “prophet” allegedly strangled the woman on her arrival from Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, when she sought Ogunlade’s help for her spiritual problems.
Police Commissioner Shina Olukolu, who led a team of policemen to where the woman was buried, said the head and arms of the victim were cut off before she was buried.
Reliving how the victim was killed, the police chief said on her arrival in Igboora, the fake prophet told her to first get over the fatigue the stress of her trip from Ilorin to Igboora caused by taking sleeping drugs.
He said Ogunlade allegedly injected her with an overdose of sleeping drugs and subsequently overpowered and strangled her.
Olukolu said Mrs Oguntade head and arms were removed for rituals while the remaining body parts were buried in a shallow grave at Ogboja, Igboora.
The police chief added that following credible information and diligent investigation, the command arrested the fake prophet and his accomplices.
“Further investigation revealed that parts of her body were burnt and ground into powder for rituals to become powerful and rich. Two knives used to kill and cut her body parts, a white clothing bag containing substance inside a gourd where the alleged powdery parts were kept and a bottle of Stallion Schnapps were also recovered,” he said.
Olukolu urged the residents to give timely and useful information to the police to enable them serve the state better.
“The police will continue with their resolute determination to stamp out crimes and criminality in the society. Members of the public should be careful about having absolute trust in individuals or groups who are strangers, especially those they meet on the social media or those who claim to possess the power of clairvoyance or ability to combat and treat terminal diseases or possess solutions to social and marital challenges,” Olukolu said.
Addressing reporters, Ogunlade said he gained experience from his former boss who was also a prophet of Cherubim and Seraphim.
He said: “The woman and I have been chatting on facebook since January. I later invited her to Igboora.
“Mutiu, a friend of mine, had told me about his challenges. He told me he was ready for money rituals. So, I decided to use the woman for money for him.
“When the woman later arrived from Ilorin, I went to pick her and bring her to Igboora from Iseyin. On her arrival in my house on May 31, I gave her sleeping drugs after she complained of body pains. She slept off and I cut off her head and arms. Her head was later burnt to ashes for money rituals,” Ogunlade said.
Oyo State Police Command said it arrested 21 suspected robbers terrorising the residents of Ibadan and its environs between January and March.
It said the suspects would be arraigned after investigation.
Items recovered from them included exotic vehicles, phones, motorcycles, tricycles, locally made pistols, live cartridges, cutlasses, charms, axes, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, driver’s licence and N12,550 cash.
Addressing reporters at the Eleyele, Ibadan headquarters of the command yesterday during the parade of the suspects, Police Commissioner Shina Olukolu said the command was poised to nip in the bud activities of criminals, adding that the arrest of the suspects was part of the efforts to stamp out crimes.
Among the achievements of the command in the attempt to flush out criminals was the recovery of hijacked truck loaded with 22 new tricycles intercepted at gunpoint from the driver, one Mohammed, male, and two motor boys, around Akinyele trailer park, Ibadan, along Ibadan/Oyo Expressway by gunmen.
“Sequel to this, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives led by CSP Olusola Aremu swung into action and this led to the recovery of the truck with 18 out of the 22 tricycles at Sagamu in Ogun state,” the Commissioner of Police said.
Some of the robbery suspects arrested by the police included a prime suspect, Gabriel Olatunji male, and four criminal receivers, Lekan Ajayi, male, Ismail Ogunsola, male, Akin Alonso, male, and Tope Ezekiel, male.
Items recovered from them are five exotic cars, including a Honda Accord car with registration number MUS 481, Toyota Camry car with number plate LSR 514 EH, Toyota Camry car marked FE 379 LND, Toyota Camry car registered as KJA 747 BH and Honda Bull Dog car with registration number KEY 827 ET.
According to the Commissioner of Police, on March 17, around 9:30 pm, one Saidi Eniola was attacked and dispossessed of his Toyota Camry car at Iyana Church area of Ibadan by hoodlums armed with guns and other weapons. Consequent upon this, a distress call was put across to the police, who later arrested the prime suspect and four criminal receivers.
Speaking further on the arrest of two prime suspects, Adeleke Fatai, male, Opoola Muritala, male, and others at Oyo town , the police commissioner narrated how some notorious hoodlums, who specialised in attacking motorcyclists and dispossessing them of their motorcycles in different part of Oyo State were arrested by his men.
“Sequel to a distress call, a team of SARS operatives led by CSP Sola Aremu swung into action and in the process, two of the hoodlums, who later identified themselves as Adeleke Fatai and Opoola Garuba, were arrested in their hideout.
“Upon interrogation, they confessed to have masterminded series of such criminal activities in various parts of Oyo State. The confessional statement later led to the arrest of four of their criminal receivers. Five Bajaj motorcycles, which they confessed to have snatched from their owners, were recovered from the hoodlums and the criminal receivers,” he said.
THE Oyo State Police Command said yesterday that over 18 suspects have been arrested for various electoral offences during the Saturday’s governorship/state House of Assembly elections.
It said the 18 suspects would face criminal prosecution after conclusion of investigation.
Their offences ranged from ballot box snatching, violence and other related electoral fraud committed in different parts of the state during the Saturday’s polls.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Shina Olukolu, who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), explained that the suspects, who were being held at the
State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), were arrested at various polling units during the polls.
He said the names of suspects were still being withheld by the police in order not to tamper with the ongoing investigation.
According to the police chief, seven guns, 30 live cartridges and some other miscellaneous items were recovered from the suspects.
He added that the suspects, who are being held at the SCIID, would soon be transferred to Abuja for further investigation in line with the directives from the Inspector General of Police (IG) before prosecution.
The Oyo State Police Command said no fewer than 18 suspects had been arrested across the state for various offences during Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
Fadeyi said the offences committed by the suspects ranged from attempt to snatch ballot boxes and ballot papers to violence.
He said that seven assorted guns and 30 live cartridges and other dangerous weapons were recovered from some of the suspects.
He said that the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at Iyaganku, was currently carrying out preliminary investigations on the suspects.
Fadeyi said that the suspects would be transferred to Abuja for further investigation after completion of initial checks at the state level. (NAN)
Suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed the Officer-in-charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Saki Area of the Oyo State Police Command.
The officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, whose name was not disclosed by the Command was said to have been macheted to death by the suspected Fulani herdsmen during an operation in a forest around Saki-Ogboro Road in the Oke Ogun area of the state.
The incident is coming barely two weeks after the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude and other top officers of the Command held a stakeholders meeting to address issues and crisis between farmers and herdsmen in the state.
The meeting held at the Eleyele Headquarters of the Command in Ibadan.
According to a top Source who pleaded anonymity, a combined team of police officers and men of the SARS operatives in the area had arrested some suspected Fulani herdsmen on the ground of disturbing public peace a day earlier, but that the men were ambushed by another gang of herdsmen during another attempt to arrest two other suspects involved in the public chaos.
The source added that the development has led to palpable fear in Saki and its environs.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu who confirmed the incident said four suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of the officer.
He, however, added that the Command has commenced an investigation on the incident while assuring people in the area to remain law-abiding and calm.
The Oyo State Security Trust Fund Friday handed over 10 refurbished patrol vehicles to the Oyo State Police Command.
They were a tranche of a total of 21 vehicles refurbished by the fund which are being handed over as they are ready.
Friday’s 10 vehicles went to the police but heads of other security agencies were in attendance. Five had been given to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) while the DSS got one. Another set of five is being refurbished for the police.
Presenting the vehicles, the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on security, Mr Segun Bolarinwa, explained that government refurbished the vehicles to enhance patrol and other related security activities in the state.
He said government was convinced that no meaningful socio-economic activity can take place without peace and security.
He pointed out that the security agencies have challenges in several areas, pointing out that the fund helps in areas of communication gadget, emergency call centre, armor vests and pepper spray in addition to vehicles.
“We need to maintain all our facilities to ensure all security agencies are working well in the state.” He said.
Bolarinwa put the cost of refurbishing the vehicles at N25 million.
The Executive Secretary of the Fund, Mr Femi Oyedipe, explained that the vehicles were refurbished as a way of encouraging maintenance culture in addition to exorbitant cost of buying new ones.
Oyedipe said others would soon be handed over in the second phase. He thanked all the security agencies for cooperating with the state government in its efforts to keep the state safe for all residents.
Responding on behalf of all security agencies, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude, expressed gratitude to Governor Ajimobi for coming to the aid of the command by refurbishing 10 patrol vans.
“We know this is the first phase. This further confirms state government understands of our challenges. We shall ensure that the vehicles are well maintained to make Oyo State safer.”
At the event were heads of the DSS, Air Force and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Oyo state police Command have arrested and paraded ten criminal suspects who have confessed to be responsible for series of armed robbery attacks in different parts of the state.
Out of the ten suspects paraded with handcuffs, claimed to have been sent to prison in the past, and later returned to the heinous crime.
Among them, Yekini Saheed ‘m’ (33) , Sunday Peter ‘m’ (27), and Mohammed Azeez ‘m’ (28), have all served various sentences at Agodi Prisons before returning to crime after been released.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude who led other senior police officers including Mr Sanusi Buba, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations told newsmen on Friday that Yekini Saheed and his gang had raided several houses, robbing victims of their phones, cash and other valuable property in the city of Ibadan and environs.
He said during the robbery, the deadly gang shot a victim in the eye at Ayedun and killed a night guard who stood in their during a robbery operation at Ehin Grammar area of Ibadan.
They suspects while answering questions from newsmen confessed to the attack and pleaded for clemency.
One of the robbery suspects Jamiu Morufu ‘m’ (24) appealed for forgiveness, while others promised never to go back to crime when released.
Other criminal suspects paraded at the weekend were Lateef Olalekan ‘m’ (37), Ojo Adebayo ‘m’ (40), Olayiwola Akeem ‘m’ (28), Victor Joseph ‘m’ (25), Oluwaseun Aderibigbe ‘m’ (27), and Isaiah Rafiu ‘m’ (28).
Confessing to the crime, Oluwaseun Aderibigbe , a graduate from the University of Port-Harcourt said it was frustration out joblessness that forced him into crime , having waited for about five years without gainful employment.
He was to have broken into the apartment of her former boss in Lagos, where he did his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in the night time and carted away several valuable property including victim’s Sorenzo Kia Jeep in which the stolen valuables were taken away.
To cover his track, the Aderibigbe and his partner in crime, Isaiah Rafiu were said to have vandalized a CCTV camera installed in the house and made away with the PVR decoder.
The police Commissioner told newsmen that nemesis however caught up with the suspects when , through credible intelligence , they arrested at their criminal hideout at Cele Adaba , Apete area of Ibadan by operatives of Special Anti-Riot Squad .
Items recovered from the suspects included One Sorenzo Kia Jeep, a Dell laptop, one Samsung ipad, one Samsung S4 and an itel phone , a PVR CCTV decoder and assorted jewelry, expensive perfumes and four pieces of ankra fabric .
The state police boss who stated that all the suspects would be arraigned in court after conclusion of investigation, allayed fears of members of the public especially this period when ember months are around the corner.
He said “we are conscious of this , and we are resolutely determined to allay such fears by insulating the state from any form of criminal activities either before or during the period and even beyond.”
The Oyo State Police Command on Monday confirmed the death of one person in the violence that trailed the public outing of the Ege masquerade in Ibadan on Sunday.
The police spokesman in the state, ASP Adekunle Ajisebutu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Monday that two suspects were also arrested in connection with the incident.
NAN reports that violence had marred the Egungun festival on Sunday as many residents were assaulted while properties were destroyed.
The festival, which often featured displays by masquerades, is meant to showcase the rich culture and tradition of Ibadanland.
Ajisebutu, however, said that the command had beefed up security in the area where the Egungun festival was taking place.
He said the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, had warned all masquerades and their followers to refrain from violence.
The police, he said, would not hesitate to deal with any individual or group attempting to cause a breach of the peace..
Meanwhile, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has expressed displeasure with Sunday’s violence.
He said several meetings were held with stakeholders on the need to keep the peace before the festival commenced.
Adetunji, who commiserated with victims of the violence and their families, pledged that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
