    Stakeholders commend Oyo Assembly’s intervention in Ogburo dispute

    Stakeholders in Oyo State including Chiefs, Baales, Mogajis, prominent sons and daughters of Ibadanland have applauded Oyo Assembly over its intervention in Ogburo, a boundary community between Oyo and Osun State.

    They described the intervention as a welcome development, saying the step taken by the House would give relief to residents of the area.

    There has been dispute over who owns Ogburo between Oyo and Osun State which has leading to fracas in the community.

    A statement jointly signed by President of Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative, (ICPI) Barr. Niyi Ajewole, who also double as the Central Council of Ibadan Indigiens (CCII) President-General, ICPI Coordinator, Mogaji Asiwaju Nurudeen Akinade stated that the intervention is capable of bringing lasting solution to the dispute.

    According to him, relationship between Oyo and Osun State has been cordial from time immemorial, warning those causing trouble in the area to desist of face the wrath of law.

    They said: “Odo Oba remained the common boundary between the two States just as Asejire is well known as a natural boundary at the Ibadan – Ikire ends. One wonder why the some people will agree with the Ibadan/Ikire assertion and refused to recognise the Odo Oba theory.”

    Ibadan Chiefs warned those behind causing crisis at Ogburo community, Odo-Oba to desist, saying the community belongs to Ibadanland and not Iwo in Osun State.

    They said the community can only have one monarch, which is the Ologburo of Ogburo, His Royal Highness, Oba Victor Oyedepo Olabamji recently installed by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, HIM, Oba Mohood Olalekan Ishola Balogun, Alli Okunmade ll saying any other monarch aside that is none and void.

    According to them, Ibadanland owns Ogburo community from time immemorial, saying all the past Oluwos of Iwo are aware of the fact that the community falls within Ibadan area.

    Police apprehend man with fresh human head in Oyo

    The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a 45-year-old suspected ritualist, Hassan Kolawole with a fresh human head in Ibadan.

    Kolawole was paraded at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan alongside nine other suspects arrested for various crimes at different locations.

    Other items found in Kolawole’s possession include fresh human hands and one HP Laptop.

    The suspect, according to the police was arrested at Ogbere-ti-o-ya in Ona Ara local government area.

    Speaking with journalists, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying that the fresh human head and two hands found in his possession were for ritual purposes as a result of the financial difficulty he was going through.

    He said: “I have one wife and two children and things are very hard for me in taking good care of them, I met one Waheed, who is also an Islamic cleric at a Maolud, we discuss it and he told me that he knew how to do money ritual that would require the use of human parts.

    “I told him that I didn’t know how to get the human parts and he promised to get them for me, he later brought the human parts to me at Amuloko where we met early in the morning and I kept them in my office where I use to attend to people who need spiritual assistance.”

    “The police came to search my office on the day Waheed gave me the fresh head and two hands.”

    The suspect said that the person who gave him the human parts is now at large.

    In a related development, nine suspects have been paraded for various crimes ranging from murder, kidnapping, cultism and theft.

    The suspects were arrested at different locations across the states.

    Items recovered as exhibits, according to the police reports include; One Boxer Bajaj Motorcycle with Reg Number NRK 754 QW, an improvised gun, dual faced axe, one HP Laptop, one human head, two human hands and seventeen wraps of weed and fifty-three wraps of Colorado.

    Oyo NSCDC commandant orders clampdown on power distribution facility vandals

    The commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State Dr. Michael Adaralewa, has directed a state-wide crackdown on vandals of electric transformers and other power distribution facilities.

    Adaralewa gave the order at the monthly briefing at the Area “A” Command Headquarters, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

    A statement by the command’s public relations officer DSC Samuel Opebiyi quoted Adaralewa as saying: “I am giving a marching order to all area commanders and divisional officers to go after vandals of transformers and other power distribution facilities  in Oyo State.”

    The monthly commandant’s briefing is an important forum for reviewing NSCDC operations, assessing security challenges and providing directives to enhance internal security across the state.

    The briefing was attended by all the heads of departments, units, area commanders, sectional heads, unit commanders and divisional officers.

    Adaralewa expressed concern over the rising cases of vandalism targeting power transformers and other electricity distribution facilities in several parts of Oyo State.

    He, however, commended the officers for their diligence and encouraged them to continue being above board in the discharge of their duties. He also ordered increased security presence at worship centers on Fridays, Sundays and through the yuletide season to curb the anticipated rise in criminal activities.

    The NSCDC boss also reviewed and rejigged strategies and directives aimed at improving the corps’ effectiveness and service delivery to the people of Oyo State.

    Adaralewa charged all officers and men of the corps to brace up for the enormous task ahead as the year nears end.

    He assured the people of the state of NSCDC’s commitment to protecting lives and property during the Yuletide and beyond.

    Oyo vows to shutdown ‘mushroom’ primary schools

    The Oyo state government has said it would work with Education secretaries, and heads of sections in all local governments towards shutting down substandard primary schools in the state.

    The commissioner for education, science and technology, Prof. Soliu Adelabu, in a meeting with basic education stakeholders on Wednesday said “mushroom” schools would not be allowed to operate in the state.

    Speaking in Ibadan, he said the ministry and OYOSUBEB will work closely with relevant stakeholders to tighten the noose on operators of mushroom primary schools.

    He charged the education secretaries, and heads of Sections in the 33 local government areas of the state to get set, as the meeting was part of steps and institutional preparations towards the crackdown.

    Prof. Adelabu, who expressed dissatisfaction with the report he gathered on the field, during a recent inspection, identified ways to forestall some basic errors in the basic education sub-sector.

    He called for unwavering commitment by all stakeholders, charging them to be part of the moving train, to better the lots of children in the basic education sub-sector.

    The Commissioner also admonished relevant stakeholders, to step up their game in the proper supervision of schools under their watch.

    He said: “Let us commit ourselves to the betterment of our public schools, as this will ultimately impact the lives and future of the students under our care.”

    The commissioner also said that the state government under the supervision of Governor Seyi Makinde is making moves to address infrastructural decay in primary schools.

    He noted that the governor had given the ministry a matching order to identify schools with urgent need of infrastructural overhaul.

    He added: “The Oyo state government is doing everything possible to bring every child of school age on board. However, we must not compromise our commitment to quality and standard education in the state”.

    Speaking on the lingering issue of recruitment of primary school teachers, the Education commissioner said, “We are aware that teachers are retiring, and the staff strength in our primary schools is reducing. I assure you that, by God’s grace, we will recruit more teachers in the basic education sector by February 2024.”

    The commissioner stressed that standards in education must not dwindle, and appealed to education secretaries and private school owners to take the issue of standards in schools seriously.

    Speaking earlier, the coordinating director, OYOSUBEB, Mrs Olaide Ladipo said the board is committed to the betterment of public primary schools.

    She noted that the recent inspection of the Commissioner for Education, along with the management team of OYOSUBEB brought forth the areas where schools fall short, and where urgent attention is needed.

    Represented by the director of administration and supply, David Isola, the coordinating director, said the meeting serves as a pivotal platform to address the challenges.

    In his response, on behalf of his colleagues, the education secretary of Ido local government, Bukola Adigun, assured the state government of their dedication to improving education in the state.

    The meeting was attended by Education Secretaries from 33 local government areas. It also had in attendance Heads of Sections in the 33 local governments from Standard and Quality Assurance; Schools Services; Planning Research and Statistics among others.

    Ibadan mogaji’s, chiefs and concerned indigenes of Ibadanland have supported Alhaja Saratu Konibaje as the Iyaloja-General of Oyo State.

    They said she remained the only Iyaloja of Oyo State, having followed due process. According to them, any process besides the one that produced Alhaja Konibaje was null and void.

    A statement by the President, Association of Ibadan Mogaji, Asimiyu Ariori, who is also the coordinator, Ibadan Security Initiative, advised impostors to desist, saying Konibaje’s choice was a joint decision by traders.

    The statement said it was an erroneous belief that since the Babaloja of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekini Abass, was from Ibadan, the Iyaloja should not also come from Ibadan.

    It added: “Alhaja Konibaje is the real Iyaloja of Oyo State, her emergence followed due process. We can’t have two Iyalojas. Ibadan people have endorsed due process that paved the way for the emergence of Konibaje.”

    BREAKING: Makinde grants N25,000 for workers, N15,000 for pensioners in Oyo

    Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the payment of N25,000 for workers and N15,000 for pensioners as wage awards in the state.

    The governor said the payment will be for six months at an additional N2.2 billion to the wage bill of the state.

    Makinde made the disclosure in the company of labour leaders including Comrade Kayode Martins (NLC), Comrade Bosun Olabiyi (TUC), Comrade Olaonipekun Oluwaseun (JNC Public Sector) while addressing workers at the entrance of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

    Other government functionaries including, Special Adviser (Labour Matters), Comrade Adebayo Titilola-Sodo, the Executive Assistant to the governor, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe among others also accompanied the governor during the address.

    The workers had stormed the Governor’s Office as part of a decision taken during a Congress on Monday to ensure the issue is resolved once and for all.

    As part of measures to avert an impending strike action, labour leaders in Oyo state have begun an emergency negotiation meeting with government officials.

    The labour team members at the meeting include Comrade Kayode Martins (NLC Chairman), Comrade Bosun Olabiyi (TUC Chairman), Comrade Olaonipekun Oluwaseun (JNC Public Service Chairman), and Comrade Segun Abatan (Secretary, NUP).

    It was gathered that the meeting was led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Olanike Adeyemo, who was accompanied by the Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni among others.

    While the meeting is ongoing, members of the NLC, TUC and their affiliates in their hundreds are at the entrance gate singing solidarity songs.

    Mild drama ensued while the workers sang and danced as the security operatives called for backup.

    The arrival of the men of the state anti-crime task force codenamed Operation Burst caused a lot of scare as a little altercation started between the security operatives and the workers.

    Normalcy was however restored as some of the labour leaders on the ground and some senior military officers brokered peace.

    Wage award: Oyo workers may declare indefinite strike Monday

    Without prompt intervention from the state government, Oyo workers and pensioners represented by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliated groups might initiate an indefinite strike in the state starting on Monday, November 6.

    A congress where the decision might be taken had been fixed for Monday morning by the Labour leaders as parts of the decision taken at the State Advisory Council (SAC) and State Executive Council (SEC) meetings of the two Labour centres at the Labour House, American Quarters, Agodi, Ibadan last week.

    Arising from the meeting, the labour leaders had directed all workers to pick their personal effects and assemble at the Labour House on Monday morning for briefing and update on the ongoing negotiations between the government and the Labour unions, particularly on the wage award and welfare of workers and Pensioners in the state.

    The labour leaders also at the meeting condemned the attack on the National President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajero in Imo state last week Wednesday.

    A communique issued at the end of the meeting reads in part “We, the Oyo State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), stand united and strongly condemn in totality the recent attack on the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress by the Nigerian Police in Imo State on Wednesday 2nd November 2023 by the government of Hope Uzodinma and police Force.

    It said: “We view this egregious incident as an affront to the fundamental rights and liberties of the Nigerian labour force and an alarming manifestation of the tyrannical tendencies displayed by some state governments towards the labour movement.

    “It is evident that the principles of social justice and the rights of workers are being disregarded in some quarters. We strongly assert that the labour movement is a vital pillar of our democracy and must be allowed to function without fear of harassment or intimidation.

    “In conclusion, we, the Oyo State NLC and TUC, wish to make it clear that we will not take this attack on the National President of the NLC or any Labour leader lightly. We stand resolute in our commitment to defending the rights and welfare of workers in Oyo state and throughout Nigeria.

    “We call upon the labour community, civil society organizations, and all well-meaning Nigerians to join us in condemning this act and demanding justice, only constructive negotiations that would lead to agreements and implementation can lead to good governance.

    “Our struggle for workers’ rights and social justice will not be deterred by acts of tyranny. Together, we shall prevail in our pursuit of a just and equitable society, where the rights and dignity of all workers are upheld and protected.

    “After the expiration of the ultimatum served on the State government who are yet to proffer lasting solution to our grievances, all workers (should pick all their personal belongings from office on Friday 3rd November 2023) and Pensioners in the state are to resume at NLC Secretariat Agodi Gate on Monday 6th November 2023 for the largest Congress in the history of Oyo state for further directive.

    “We condemn the continued verbal assault and insult by the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Mr Titi-Lola Sodo to workers, Pensioners, and the Labour Movement of Oyo state.”

    Court jails 41 internet fraudsters in Oyo, Ogun

    The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of  41 internet fraudsters to various jail terms in Oyo and Ogun states respectively.

    They were jailed after pleading guilty to a one -one-count charge each preferred against them by the EFCC. 

    According to the Head, of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale in a statement, Justices Ladiran Akintola and Adebukola Olajide of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan; Justices Abiodun Akinyemi, A.A. Babawale and B.B. Adebowale of the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta and Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, jailed the 41 convicts.

    The convicts are Siyanbade Timilehin Omobosola, Ilugbo Emmanuel Adekunle, Odude Ayomide Michael, Aderounmu Gbenga Michael, Oluwole David Dare, Habeeblahi Abdullateef Akande, Ololade Sunday Olamide, Ibrahim Victor Abayomi, Adewusi Mojeed Adedeji, Afeez Lekan Jimoh, Peter Seyi Iyanuoluwa, Olatunde Abass, Alan-Oni Joseph Opeyemi, Adetunji Abolaji Adeola and Ogunmola Oluwabori Micheal.

    Others are Ajayi Raymond Damilare, Cyril Stephen Oluwaseyi, Adekunle Solomon, Olalekan Taoreed Miller, Oladipupo Imoleayo Falohun, Moboluwaduro Olalekan Soetan, Ibikunle Oluwadamilare James, Olumoroti Ayomide Segun, Fetuga Olajide Abiodun, Agbolade Mayowa Oluwafemi , Felix Folorunsho Ayodele,  Dauda Rokeeb Opeyemi, Adeife Adeleke Oluwasegun, Agbe Simon Abuo, Alonge Timileyin Israel.

    The rest are: Lasisi Hassan Ayobami, Olakode Ajibola Ibrahim, Ogundiya Fredrick Olajide, Emmanuel Chidi Peter, Ayanmo Taiwo Wasiu, Daud Sodiq Temidayo, Hammed Ibrahim Ola, Adenuga Tope Lekan, Ibrahim Odewande Olasumbo, Adekunle Habeeb Olamilekan and Monday Blessing Patrick.

    Oyewale added that upon their arraignments, they all pleaded “guilty” to the one-count charge when it was read to them individually. “Consequently, facts of the cases were reviewed by the prosecution as they prayed the courts to convict and sentence the defendants accordingly.

    “The courts, having listened to the submissions and prayers of the prosecution and defense counsels,  convicted and sentenced Patrick, Olasumbo,  Lekan, Ola, Temidayo, Olajide, Ibrahim, Ayobami, Israel, James, Soetan, Solomon and Oluwaseyi to one-year imprisonment each while Olamilekan was sentenced to nine months jail term and Falohun to ten months imprisonment.

    “Also, Wasiu, Peter, Oluwafemi, Abiodun, and Olumoroti bagged three months imprisonment each but Oluwafemi, Abiodun, and Olumoroti were given the option of a N50,000 fine each instead of their sentence.

    “Furthermore, Oluwasegun, Opeyemi, Ayodele, Damilare, Micheal, Adeola, Opeyemi, Abass, Iyanuoluwa, Jimoh, Adedeji, Abayomi, Olamide, Akande, Michael, Adekunle, and Omobosola were convicted and sentenced to six months community service each as Adekunle and Omobosola got a N50,000 and N100, 000 fine alongside their sentences respectively.

    “The courts also convicted and sentenced Abuo, Miller, Dare, and  Michael to three months community service each but Abuo got a N50,000.00 fine in lieu of his sentence while Michael was to pay a fine of N30k alongside his sentence.

    “The convicts were ordered to restitute their various victims and forfeit all items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria, including a green colour Toyota Highlander with Registration Number: LSD – 400 – GX and one sky blue colour Toyota Camry with Registration Number: DG – 453 – FT”, the statement added.

    All 41 convicts bagged their imprisonment when they were arrested by operatives of the EFCC for internet-related offenses.  They were investigated, prosecuted, and convicted
