APGA mocks Ozigbo for seeking governorship ambition in LP

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) said the governorship hopeful of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra, Valentine Ozigbo, has no political wherewithal to challenge Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the 2025 gubernatorial poll in the state.

The party described Ozigbo as a broke man seeking Peter Obi’s favour to fund his ambition, adding that he is no match for Soludo in the forthcoming election.

APGA described as laughable Ozigbo’s claim that he is better than Governor Soludo, calling him a toothless bulldog.

The party said the LP governorship aspirant has no electoral value but is banking on the support of Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.

The national coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, stated this in a statement made available to The Nation on Tuesday in Awka.

He said: “Valentine Ozigbo is banking on whipping Peter Obi’s sentiment to become Governor but disappointment awaits him.

“I have heard many people say that Valentine Ozigbo does not have the muscle to contest the 2025 governorship election.

“He is hoping to be funded by Peter Obi but I reliably gathered from Peter Obi’s camp that he is not ready to sponsor any candidate for the 2025 election and that anybody contesting the election must be financially buoyant to fund his election.

“This is what made some people close to Peter Obi to be pushing him to support Engr Barth Nwibe because he has a financial war chest.

“The implication is that Valentine Ozigbo is not in Peter Obi’s consideration table and that is to say that he is deceiving himself.

“As for us in APGA, Governor Soludo remains the best choice for Anambra electorate in 2025 and they will do everything humanly possible for him to clinch a well-deserved second-term mandate. This is because the Anambra electorates believe that one good turn deserves another.”

Obigwe maintained that Soludo remained the best for the job, adding that he would not be compared with anybody.

Obigwe said: “Anambra is not a banana republic where political nobodies will be jumping up and down making unnecessary claims.

“Ozigbo’s visit to Ogbaru Local government is a waste of time because the actual people that made him win Ogbaru in 2021 are now in APGA and they will deliver Governor Soludo in 2025 in that local government.

“He is busy chasing shadows in other local governments because he knows that he cannot win Aguata 1 and 2 constituency as long as Governor Soludo is concerned.

“In 2021, Valentine Ozigbo only managed to win Amesi his community but lost Aguata constituency 1 and 2 to Governor Soludo.

“He lost his Aguata constituency 1 and 2 to Governor Soludo in the 2021 and 2023 elections. That is a clear indication showing that he does not have one single electoral value.”

    • Promises to transform Anambra in 4 years

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) during the last election, Mr. Peter Obi and the Senator, representing Anambra Central, Dr. Victor Umeh, failed to attend the stakeholders meeting in the zone, organized by Mr. Valentine Ozigbo.

But no reason was given for their absence as Ozigbo intensified efforts in his governorship pursuit in 2025 on the platform of LP.

Though he had already made his intentions known to his party, the majority of the members of his party are not happy with him, as they allegedly prefer Senator Umeh.

Some of them, who spoke with The Nation at the weekend, said Ozigbo was just wasting his time, describing him as cunning.

According to one of them, who preferred anonymity, Umeh is the person the party members are rooting for.

The source added that Ozigbo had started his back yard politics again in LP, the same thing, they said, happened in PDP.

The stakeholder’s meeting was  held at Grand East Hotels, Awka, without the two key members of LP in the Central zone (Obi and Umeh).

It was further gathered that Obi had perfected plans to dump LP again, as other options are in the offing.

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting, Ozigbo thanked those present and the people of Anambra Central for coming out  despite what he described as short notice .

He assured the populace that he would lead the state to a more enviable height and for only one term of four years if voted to power.

He boasted that he  would surely hand over to another competent candidate from Anambra Central after his four year tenure, which some of his party members described as “joke of the year”

He further stated that four years would be enough for any serious government to impact lives positively.

“Anambra State under me as governor would be repositioned and transformed to an enviable height within four years because of my competence, leadership quality, and proven records of excellence.

“As an advocate of zoning, I will honour the principles of zoning, I’ll transform Anambra State within four years, and hand it over to any other competent person from Anambra Central. I am a man of integrity, ” Ozigbo added.”

Prof Chinyere Okunna, Peter Obi’s former Chief of Staff and current Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul’s University, said, “Val’s character is 100% and this is what makes him fit and proper for this job.

“Some erroneously think that by being humane, civilized and gentlemanly, you are weak in politics, but these are actually his greatest strengths,” she said.

Guber 2025: Ozigbo commits to rotation, promises to transform Anambra in 4 years

Mr Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra, has said he would transform the state in four years if elected governor in 2025.

Ozigbo said this at an interactive session with political office holders elected on the platform of the LP and stakeholders from Anambra Central in Awka.

He said he was a strong advocate and respecter of zoning and would do one term of four years during which he would restore the glory of the State by running a government that would the best in its history.

He said he would take Anambra to an enviable height and gladly hand over to another competent candidate from Anambra Central after his reign, as four years would be enough for any serious government to impact lives positively.

Ozigbo, who cited Gov Alex Otti od Abia  as an example, said he would replicate the effect in Anambra while calling on the people to vote for the change they desire in 2025.

According to him, “Anambra under me as governor will be repositioned and transformed to an enviable height within four years because I have competence, leadership quality, and proven records of excellence.

“As an advocate of zoning, I will honour the principles of zoning, I will transform Anambra within four years, and hand it over to any other competent person from Anambra Central.

“I am a man of integrity,” he said.

In their various responses, the stakeholders expressed confidence in Ozigbo’s ability to redefine governance in Anambra.

Prof Chinyere Okunna, a former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Anambra, described Ozigbo as a man of impeccable character who was best suited for the job.

Okunna, who is Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul’s University, Awka, said Ozigbo’s humane quality, civility and calmness were his greatest strengths.

According to her, Anambra needs someone who is emotionally intelligent and can connect with people, just like Mr Peter Obi, and this is what stands Val apart.

Chief George Ozodinobi, member representing Anaocha/Dunukofia/Njikoka in the National Assembly, said he would mobilise his constituents to work towards the success of Ozigbo at the primary and main election.

“I will lead the battle in my constituency,” he said.
