    • Group names Falae chairman National Executive Committee

Pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to allow state governments implement the planned establishment of National Forest Guard.

It said allowing them to implement the policy would be part of the decentralisation of the country’s security architecture.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of Afenifere caucus meeting held at the Akure home of its leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

The communiqué said a former Secretary of the Federal Government, Oba Olu Falae, was appointed as chairman of National Executive Committee of Afenifere.

It said the appointment of Oba Falae was meant to reinvigorate the organisation with a view to ensuring the House of Oduduwa was back on track to project the Yoruba mandate.

Afenifere, in the communiqué, noted that the most important panacea for the challenge facing the country, insecurity, was forest guard.

It called on President Tinubu and the National Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, set machinery in motion to restructure the country.

The organisation urged President Tinubu to make restructuring one of the major policies in its third year in office.

On the security situation in the country, Afeniferi reiterated its long-standing advocacy for the immediate take-off of state police.

It congratulated Tinubu for turning two years in office and expressed hope that the President would use the remaining period of his tenure to address issues bothering the country.

According to the communiqué, “while we take note of the National Bureau of Statistics’ report on inflation, we wish to emphasise that food inflation and transport costs are still very bothersome.

“We note the good intention of the Federal Government on the initiative of the National Forestry Guards, but it is the opinion of Afeniferi that implementation should be by the states as part of the decentralisation of security architecture.

“Afenifere thanks the President for releasing funds for the rehabilitation of Ibadan-Ife-Ilesha Expressway.’’

Oba Falae hoped he would be able to unite factions in Afenifere.
