Why I avoid employing female secretaries — Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has clarified that his long-standing decision not to employ female secretaries is a personal precaution to avoid temptation, not an act of gender discrimination.

In a viral video, Adeboye explained that he adopted the policy early in his ministry to prevent situations where he might be left alone with a female secretary, especially at night.

He noted that such circumstances could create risks or temptations, stressing that he is mindful of his own vulnerabilities.

Adeboye added that his position does not imply that women are incapable or untrustworthy. Instead, he said it is a safeguard to maintain integrity in his ministry.

He recalled having a female secretary in the past who was a committed Christian but admitted that, despite good intentions, certain situations can become awkward or compromising.

Adeboye said, “From the moment I got to this campground, from the moment I got to a stage where at night I still have to work, I ceased to have a female secretary. Some people think it is gender discrimination. I know myself. I knew who I was before Jesus saved my soul. And I know the possibility of dangers of being left alone at night with people of the opposite sex.

“Oh, but if we were to get a secretary like the last one I had—she was a wonderful child of God, a true child of the living God. And when I got here, I knew I’ll still be in the office at 3 AM.

“Can you imagine after a long day’s work, everybody’s gone, we’ve seen the last visitor, and then my secretary comes in at 2:00 AM: “We are through now, sir. Is there any way I can help you? You know, a cup of tea to relax?” At two o’clock. Jonah must go.”

Quoting Genesis 26:24, Adeboye reminded followers that God is always with His people, blessing and multiplying them for His glory.

He further affirmed that God’s presence will locate His children wherever they are and open doors that no man can shut.

Adeboye wrote on X, “Yesterday, I made a surprise visit to four of our parishes in Boun, just before Simawa in Ogun State. I went quietly, simply desiring to worship and fellowship with the brethren, without any form of prior notice or preparation. Beloved, it was a glorious time in God’s presence, a reminder that wherever God’s children gather in spirit and in truth, His presence will surely be there.

“Now, welcome to September, your month of destiny and divine visitation. This month, the Almighty will single you out for favour. He will rewrite your story for good, and every long-awaited promise will find fulfilment in your life in Jesus’ name.

“For those in Nigeria, for those in Africa, and for all our brethren in every nation of the world, no matter where you are, the presence of God will locate you. You will not miss your day of visitation. This September, the Lord will open doors that no man can shut, and He will grant you peace on every side.

“And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.” (Genesis 26:24)”.

Pastor Adeboye to youth: Focus, hard work, prayer are keys to greatness

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised young people to remain focused, hardworking, diligent, and prayerful, describing these qualities as vital for achieving true greatness.

He gave the charge during the RCCG’s monthly thanksgiving service held at The Throne of Grace headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, where he delivered a sermon titled “Exceedingly Great.”

Pastor Adeboye also offered prayers for students at all levels — from secondary school pupils to university undergraduates, including candidates preparing for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations and those seeking admission both locally and internationally.

He emphasised that attaining “exceedingly great” heights requires unwavering focus, consistent effort, and steadfast prayer.

“In God’s plan, there is no impossibility, especially when you belong to Him by surrendering your life to Jesus. Once you’ve done that, your destiny is to be exceedingly great,” Adeboye said.

However, he cautioned that meeting the spiritual requirement is just the beginning. “You can’t afford to relax after that. Keep working hard and stay prayerful. Slacking off leads to disappointment and frustration because, even in heaven, there’s no room for laziness.”

Highlighting the importance of having a clear vision early in life, Adeboye noted that while greatness has no age limit, it is best pursued with purpose and direction from youth. He illustrated his point with the biblical story of Jacob, who became exceedingly great by being focused, diligent, hardworking, and prayerful.

Adeboye also reminded students that no level of spirituality can substitute for academic preparation. “You must study hard; knowing God alone won’t help you pass your exams without effort,” he said.

Adding to the message, Pastor Dele Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer (Admin) and Pastor in charge of Region One, encouraged the youths to put Adeboye’s advice into practice, reaffirming that diligence and focus are keys to becoming exceedingly great.

How RCCG pastor was arrested abroad for saying ‘ladies and gentlemen’ – Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has expressed deep concern over the sharp decline in moral values globally.

Adeboye made this known during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service at the RCCG’s Throne of Grace, the national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, on Sunday.

He said the pastor was arrested for addressing those in attendance at a programme “Ladies and gentlemen.”

Speaking on the topic “My Father’s House” Adeboye highlighted the increasing moral decadence in the world.

He urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith, emphasizing that the end times are near.

“The end is nearer than you think,” he warned. “Things are getting worse, and this is a wake-up call. One of my pastors abroad was arrested, and his offence was simply addressing a gathering as ‘ladies and gentlemen.’ Some people reported him for discrimination, asking, ‘What about those who are neither ladies nor gentlemen?’”

Pastor Adeboye also recounted another troubling anecdote about a woman who referred to her dog as her husband during a discussion.

“She was asked about her husband, and she replied, ‘I took him to the vet before coming. He doesn’t talk.’ When asked who her husband was, she described a very handsome dog. Brethren, we are closer to the end than ever before,” he said.

He admonished Christians to take their faith seriously, urging them not to be swayed by the world’s moral decline.

“Those of you already in Christ, take this matter seriously. Do not let anyone weaken your stand. God is holy. Those still playing church—singing, clapping, and enjoying things without genuine commitment—remember, Jesus is coming back. The devil wants to harvest you, but you must not give him the opportunity. I want to see you in my Father’s house,” he emphasized.

Pastor Adeboye also reflected on the moral uprightness of earlier generations, noting their reverence for God and commitment to His commandments.

“In the olden days, people feared God, lived morally upright lives, and followed His commandments. Let us strive to return to that path,” he urged.

  • I didn’t ask Christians to stop tithing – Pastor Adeboye

I didn’t ask Christians to stop tithing – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has denied claims that he asked Christians to stop paying tithes.

The cleric had on Thursday apologised for saying in one of his messages that anybody who does not pay tithe will not make heaven.

However, he said his apology message was misinterpreted, stating how surprised he was by how quickly false reports spread online claiming he had discouraged tithe payment.

Making clarifications during the church’s October Holy Ghost Service on Saturday at the Redemption City on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, Adeboye addressed the misrepresentations that have now stirred controversy among social media users.

Adeboye acknowledged that he had apologised for any previous statements on tithing that may have been misunderstood.

“The issue of tithing became contentious, and I decided to apologise for anything I might have said wrong. Yet, within an hour, it was being circulated online that I said Christians should stop paying tithes,” Adeboye said.

He further explained that he encouraged believers to give more than the traditional 10 per cent, referencing an encounter at Kenneth Hagin’s church where a man shared how his financial situation improved after committing to tithe 90% of his income.

He said: “Today, I’m close to giving 90%, but I am far from 10%. So, I said it is wrong to limit yourself to 10% when God can take you to a higher percentage.

“As you grow in the Lord, you should grow in praising Him, winning souls, and in giving.

“I said that for beginners, the minimum is what God calls 10%. I said, from now on, begin to increase what you give.

“Of all I said, the only thing they put on the internet is that Adeboye apologised, and therefore, people should no longer pay their tithes.

“I said 10% should be the minimum.”
