Group canvasses support for Patani’s candidacy for Reps

A Patani-based pressure group, the Movement for the Rotation of Power in Bomadi/Patani Constituency, popularly known as Patani Agenda 2027, in collaboration with the Concerned People of Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, has canvassed support for a Patani candidate at the 2027 general elections.

The groups, holding a town hall meeting at Kpakiama in Bomadi local government council, Delta State, Thursday, noted that the incumbent lawmaker representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, who hails from Bomadi council area, had overstayed the seat and there was the need for a Patani indigene to take over the reins from him.

The leader of the Concerned People of Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, Comrade Chris Anthony, in his opening speech disclosed that the essence of the town hall meeting was to brainstorm about the need for a change of the mantle of leadership regarding Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency to a Patani indigene, after Mutu’s twenty-eight years of occupying the seat.

In a communiqué jointly issued by the groups at the end of deliberation, signed by Mr Meshach Selekeowei and Comrade Chris Anthony and made available to newsmen, they urged the constituents to do justice and fairness to Patani by voting massively for a candidate from Patani local government area.

The communiqué reads: “Today, we gather not in anger but in strength, we gather not to destroy but to rebuild, and we gather not for one man but for the destiny of an entire people. For 26 years, one man has been sitting in the Green Chambers holding tightly to a seat that belongs to all of us, the people of Bomadi/Patani.

“Enough is enough, Democracy is beautiful when it breathes, when it rotates, and when every part of a constituency can taste the fruit of leadership. We are not fools and we say no to stagnation, power must rotate to Patani and if APC dares to give Hon. Mutu the ticket again, resistance awaits them at the polls.

“Bomadi/Patani is underdeveloped and there are no visible federal projects and there are no sustainable youth empowerment programmes to address unemployment in the area. In the spirit of equity, fairness and justice, we demand that the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency seat be zoned to Patani LGA in 2027. “Our move is not negotiable, it is the voice of the people and it is the beauty of democracy.”
