I do not believe God created Nigeria – Paul Adefarasin

Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, has sparked controversy with his assertion that Nigeria’s creation wasn’t an act of divine will, but rather a product of British colonial interests.

According to Adefarasin, Nigeria was formed to serve British financial agendas, citing agreements between Queen Elizabeth I and the Ottoman Empire.

Adefarasin disputes the notion that Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, and Nnamdi Azikiwe were Nigeria’s founding fathers.

Instead, he attributes the country’s formation to British colonial officials, specifically Lord Lugard and men from Whitehall.

He claims that Lugard’s partner coined the name “Nigeria.”

The pastor also questioned the legitimacy of Nigeria’s constitution, stating it was authored by the military rather than the people.

He likened Nigeria’s situation to a building on unstable foundations, referencing Psalm 11:3, and criticised the country’s leadership and corruption.

Adefarasin also pointed to poor road construction as a symbol of Nigeria’s broken systems, stating that some roads are intentionally substandard to secure repeat contracts.

He said, “Nigeria, I do not believe it was created by God. I don’t believe it. I believe that Elizabeth the First got into a deal with the Ottoman Empire, and they had a deal concerning the Sudan, and those who care to buy the book, buy the book. It’s written by a fellow called, the name of the book is The Martyrdom of Man.

“As far as Africa was concerned, two empires got together and decided that this land would go to the sons of Ishmael. It is self-evident, but let’s not go there. This is not a political forum. This is a church, and the church has responsibilities to get right what man got wrong. She’s the light of the world and the salt of the earth. That’s important.

“I have no problem with people of any faith being in charge, but they must adhere to the Constitution of We the People. And when a constitution is proposed to be of the people, and it is not, it’s some soldiers who wrote it, you have to question why we obey that constitution.

“Nigeria cannot be a solid nation that is properly grounded, going towards its destiny. We started to go, but the Bible says, Psalm 11, verse 3, if the foundation is corrupted, if it is destroyed, what can the righteous do? To build a sustainable building, you have to build a solid foundation. You do a soil test, you do your engineering statics, and you determine what will carry this building and make it last for a long time.”

“There’s a difference between any road and the road that they build that takes you to the Lagos airport. That’s a proper road. Why they build roads and resurface them wrongly, I don’t know.

“Somebody suggested to me that it’s that kind of road because they want the same contract next year. That means that somebody sitting down somewhere making decisions has no sense of equity and justice. Do you understand? I hope you get me.

“There was a colonial conquest coming from the Maghreb, the Sahel, and it was interrupted by another colonial conquest of the British. And the British are not, let me say it another way, Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, and Azikiwe, they are not the founding fathers of Nigeria in my opinion.

“The founding fathers of Nigeria are some men from Whitehall and a fellow called Tob Goldman, his girlfriend, who named the country, and also Lugard.

“This nation was created for the business of the British purse so they wouldn’t have to bear the bill for the less prosperous and wealthy part of the country.”

I did not point firearm at anyone, Paul Adefarasin addresses viral video

Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church has addressed the viral video controversy where he was accused of pointing a gun at a content creator.

Adefarasin, during a sermon on Sunday clarified that he doesn’t own or carry a firearm and didn’t point any such item at anyone.

He attributed the false allegations to “click baiters” seeking financial gain.

He expressed shock and hurt but emphasised his trust in God’s sovereignty, citing Romans 12:19.

The Pastor stated that his church doesn’t dignify hate speech or false accusations, and with this statement, he considers the matter settled.

He said: “The enticement of the enemy is always the love of money and the root of all evil. What we have had to witness was click baiters just looking for more money.  I probably wasn’t even their target.

“Their target was to make more money.  And I was falsely accused of bearing a firearm, pointing a firearm, at an aggressive content creator who came within personal distance.

“The only thing separating me and him was about maybe three quarters of a meter and glass.

” I do not have a pistol license for a firearm. I do not carry a firearm. And I pointed no firearm at anybody.

“Amen.  And it’s our policy not to dignify hate speech, false accusations.  We believe that God is bigger than that.

“And we believe in what is said in Romans 12 and verse 19. And it was unique because it came home on a Saturday when I observe Sabbath. Because it’s a great time for me.

I don’t make a huge law out of Sabbath, but I believe in the principle of Sabbath. And unfortunately, several persons called me and sent me many videos. I was shocked.

I’ll be candid with you. I was shocked. I was hurt.

“I am human.  But God is touched with the feeling of our infirmities and is able to first give us succor. And what the enemy means for evil, he works it for good. On that note, I will lay that matter to rest”.

The cleric also extended appreciation to friends and supporters who have journeyed with them over the years.

He wrote on Instagram: “Dear Ifeanyi, to the world, success is often measured by prominence, ease, and tangible outcomes—the visible fruits of ambition, relentless effort, and societal recognition.

“Yet in the counsel of God, success takes on an altogether different form. It is the quiet becoming of all He designed you to be, the faithful execution of a divine mandate stewarded with integrity, humility, and a heart yielded to His will. It is not so much about what is outwardly accomplished, but who one is inwardly is becoming in alignment with His eternal purpose.

“Within that sacred context, success as God defines it is a rare and priceless gift to walk life’s journey intimately with a few true hearts who are deeply committed to you, who stand with you and lend strength to the God-ordained causes entrusted to your care. They are real Disciples of Christ. These are the ones who labour with you in your service to the God you honour, the people you shepherd, and the generational destiny divinely assigned to you and your house.

“…Through many dangers, toils and snares, we have already come. Twas grace that brought us safe thus far…” And so, to the faithful warriors who have shared the trenches with us, who have stood shoulder to shoulder through the battles of life and the crucible of calling, I extend my heartfelt gratitude.

“Of notable mention is my fellow soldier and long-standing co-parent, companion in marriage, the wife of my youth and my partner at life; dear Ifeanyi, thank you for being a helpmeet through the turns and the transitions. Thank you for walking this long road with steadiness and faith, for standing through the 30 years and for remaining present through each unfolding season. Happy 30th anniversary to you, Still Waters. With love, ‘Deolu.”

  • Paul Adefarasin erects stunning mansion in Banana Island

Although the Bible admonishes Christians to lay up their treasures in heaven, many Nigerian Pentecostal pastors have tweaked the doctrine to suit their posh, flamboyant lifestyles. They are rather laying up their treasures on earth, in the shape of private jets, luxury vehicles, palatial mansions and multibillion naira auditoriums. It would seem now that there is a race among church leaders to prove the strength of their purses.

The bug of choice properties acquisition appears to have also bitten Pastor Paul Adefarasin, a televangelist and founder of House on the Rock Church. He recently completed the building of a multibillion mansion situated in a choice location on Banana Island. The chin-raising new abode of Adefarasin in the heart of the most expensive estate in Africa is a study in architecture.

  • N800m land suit: Pastor Adefarasin, church to maintain status quo

N800m land suit: Pastor Adefarasin, church to maintain status quo

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Igbosere yesterday renewed its order restraining Paul Adefarasin and his church, House on the Rock, from taking action concerning parcels of land whose ownership is disputed by businessman, Gerald Chukwueke.
Justice Adebisi Akinlade ordered the parties to maintain the status quo which existed on March 15, 2016, when the defendants were served with the processes in the suit, pending the hearing of an interlocutory application filed by the claimants.

Chukwueke and four others filed an N800m suit against popular cleric and General Overseer of House on the Rock Church, Adefarasin, for allegedly trespassing on their land in Ikate, Lekki, Lagos.
The petitioners claimed that the pastor and the church converted some of the land to their church cathedral situated at Lekki Fourth Roundabout, Lagos.
Justice Akinlade had on March 17, 2016 restrained the defendants, “their servants, agents or privies from demolishing or removing any structure whatsoever, be they temporary or permanent on the claimants’ premises located at plots 15, 16, 17 and 18 located at 188 Ikate, Lekki, Lagos.”
The court also barred the defendants from commencing any development, construction, building or erecting any structure whether temporary or permanent in any manner whatsoever on the land.
At the resumed hearing of the matter yesterday, counsel to the  claimants, Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN) told the court that he had served all the defendants with the processes in the matter.
Onigbanjo also said “the defendants have filed a counter affidavit to our motion on notice and an application to strike out the name of the first defendant has also been filed, which we have responded to.”
On his part lawyer to the first and second defendants, Gabriel Uduafi, agreed with the position of the claimants’ lawyer but said he would file the statement of defence before the expiration of the 42 days allowed by the law.
Before the judge adjourned the matter, Onigbanjo urged the court to renew her earlier order restraining the defendants by directing parties to maintain status quo.
He argued that it would be in the interest of justice for the court to grant his request so that the subject matter could be preserved.
The application was opposed by Uduafi, who countered that his clients had already taken possession of the land with a valid registered title.
In a short ruling, Justice Akinlade overruled Uduafi, and ordered parties to maintain status quo pending the hearing of the interlocutory application.
The suit was adjourned till June 2, 2016 for mention.
In the suit, Chukwueke, and other claimants: Chinelo Chukwueke, Mrs. Martha Chukwueke, Germaine Logistics Limited & Germaine Auto Centre Limited are seeking the sum of N800 million as damages against Adefarasin and his church for allegedly trespassing on their land located in Lekki area of the state.
The claimants, who are also seeking the sum of N180 million as solicitor fees, want the court to bar the defendants from further trespassing on the disputed land.
Other defendants in the suit apart from Pastor Adefarasin are: the Incorporated Trustees of the Rock Foundation, the Registrar of Titles, Lagos State Land Registry and the Attorney-General of Lagos State.
In the motion on notice, the claimants alleged that Pastor Adefarasin and his church sometimes in January 2016 repeatedly trespassed on their premises.
They also averred that when their lawyer wrote them over the illegal action, the first and second defendant claimed that they acquired ownership and possession of the property by virtue of a Deed of Assignment registered as No. 98 in volume 2513, executed in their favour by Diamond Bank Plc.
The claimants also alleged that investigation revealed that the purported acquisition of the property was fraudulent.
According to them a forged Deed of third Party Legal Mortgage between Diamond Bank Plc and the 4th and 5th claimants was purportedly executed on March 5, 2012 mortgaging the property in favour of the bank.
The claimants also alleged that the deed was not executed by the directors or any authorised signatory of the 4th and 5th claimants.
They are therefore seeking a declaration that the Deed of Assignment between Diamond bank and the Incorporated Trustees of the Rock Foundation be declared null, void and of no effect whatsoever.
The claimants are praying the court for an order directing the Lagos State Government and the Registrar of Titles, Lagos State Land Registry to revoke the Deed of third Party Legal Mortgage between Diamond bank and the Incorporated Trustees of the Rock Foundation.
