  • Court sets December 17 for suit to wind up BBNaija sponsor Payporte

A Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday fixed December 17 for hearing a winding-up petition filed by Vacant Board Limited against sponsors of this year’s Big Brother Naija (BBN) show, Payporte Global System Limited.

Justice Ayokunle Faji fixed the date for hearing after granting a motion by the respondent seeking to regularise its processes.

At the hearing, Mr Yemi Fajuyitan appeared for the petitioner, while Mr Ovoke Borlokor appeared for the respondent.

Borlokor informed the court of his motion seeking an extension of time to file his reply to the petition.

This application for regularisation was not opposed by counsel to the petitioner, who also informed the court that he had filed his written replies as well as counter affidavits.

Justice Faji granted the application for the regularisation and fixed December 17 for hearing of the suit.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the petitioner had filed a debt recovery suit against Payporte before a Lagos High Court in 2015.

The court, in its judgment delivered on May 27, 2016, awarded N23.1 million against Payporte, in favour of the petitioner.

The petitioner recalled that on February 27, last year, the respondent made a part-payment of N5 million, leaving a balance of N17.1 million, which it failed to liquidate till date, despite several demand letters.

It filed a winding-up petition before the Federal High Court on December 29, last year, asking it to wind up the company.

Also, in its notice of preliminary objection on April 25, the respondent challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain or even hear the petition.

The counsel to the respondent, Mr Ogedi Ogu, averred that the petition for winding-up failed to comply with the provisions of sections 5 and 6 of the Companies Winding-Up Rules, 2001.

The lawyer argued that no summons was filed by the petitioner, issued or sealed in respect of the said petition, adding that the failure rendered the petition null and void.

He said the failure of the petitioner to file and serve the summons before the commencement of the winding-up suit robbed the court of the jurisdiction to hear the suit, as same cannot be competently activated in the petition as presently constituted.

Payporte contends that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the petitioner’s suit.

The company said it is defective, bad in law, null and void and constituted an abuse of court process.

It averred that the winding-up suit be dismissed with substantial costs awarded against the petitioner.

NFF signs partnership agreements with TGI Group, PayPorte

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has signed partnership agreements with two companies, Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group and PayPorte for the sponsorship of the Super Eagles.

The partnership which will last three years will make TGI Group’s products, such as Big Bull Rice, Chivita, Hollandia Yoghurt and Renew Starch, the official food of the Super Eagles.

The agreement with the PayPorte on the other hand will make the company the official online shop for sales of Eagles’ jerseys for the next three years.

Signing the agreement on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, the Executive Director of TGI Group, Onyekachi Onubogu, noted that football is a unifying factor in Nigeria.

Onubogu, who represented the TGI Group Managing Director, Rahul Savara, said: “We are enormously ecstatic to come on board as supporters of the Nigerian national football teams.

“The sponsorship is a further demonstration of the commitment of our business to the development of Nigeria in all facets.

“We strongly believe in our investments in the agricultural value chain and its impact on the socio-economic development of Nigeria.

“And this new partnership we are starting with the NFF will allow us to expand our footprints to the development of football in the country.

“We are resolutely committed to increasing our investments in the Nigerian economy, increasing employment and local content while supporting the communities we operate in.”

The Chief Executive Officer of PayPorte, Eyo Bassey, said his company decided to partner with NFF as its own Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.

Bassey, who signed the agreement on behalf of his company, said his company intended to create an authentic and internationally accepted platform, where Nigerians can access sports merchandise.

“This is a strategic partnership, as we are the preferred e-commerce company in this part of the world.

“We have come to associate with NFF to reach out to our customers. We want to assist NFF to promote grassroots football in Nigeria,” Bassey said.

The NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, signed the two agreements on behalf of NFF.

Pinnick said the private sector partnership with NFF was borne out of the transparent ways his board members had handled football affairs so far.

“The opportunity to have the support of TGI Group and the reward for the “Man of the Match” award will have a huge benefit for the team to achieve our goals.

“We also talk a lot about creating memories and no doubt working with TGI Group will create some fantastic memories,” Pinnick said.

    #BBNaija: Fans fault Kemen’s disqualification

Following the disqualification of Kemen (Ekemini Ekerete), one of the housemates from the ongoing Big Brother Naija (#BBNaija) reality TV series for sexual assault, fans and viewers of the show on Monday took to social media to share their views on the issue.

Kemen, a fitness instructor was disqualified from the #BBNaija for sexually harassing another housemate, Tboss.

According to Ekan Damie, a viewer “for the first time, I actually decided to watch on YouTube to see what warranted eviction since I know immoral acts have always been condoned in the show before now.

“I totally see nothing wrong in what Kemen did based on the values of the show.

“If they allow opposite sex to creep into or share bed, I see no reason why touching is not possible besides the lady in question neither cautioned him or complained to big brother in any diary section.

“And for those questioning my morality, we are talking of an immoral show here not project fame or ultimate search,

“So all of you taking bout Kemen being immoral on big brother please, what else is he to be? a business analyst?

“Silence means consent if TBoss did not show her displeasure in words or in action, the eviction was a huge misconception as d guy did put it, “he said.

Another big brother fan, David Que said “It is now clear to me that this world has really become very decadent.

“How on planet earth can Payporte and BBA expect any individual to have high morals whilst under the influence of alcohol.

“Many have ended up raping woman because of alcohol, many get into fights, many express all the suppressed feelings that have been locked up inside, some sleep in gutters and bare floors.

“Some can’t even ask a woman out until they are intoxicated. Given the same opportunity most will choose differently if they weren’t intoxicated. BB naija is such a waste of valuable time.

Femi Adelaja said; “The organisers are a disgrace and are insincere maggots. How can they be talking about morals when they allow housemates sleep together, where is the morals there?

“Yes, Kemen was creepy, which I am totally against, but if Tboss had real issues with it, they would have just settled it amicably.

“Though I don’t like Kemen, but this was honestly unfair to him. I mean they are adults who can resolve this kind of thing amicably, “another fan said.

Kemen touched TBoss while she was sleeping, causing outrage from Big Brother Naija fans.

Displeased with Kemen’s action, “Biggie” owner of the #BBNaija house noted that the move was not mutual, adding that his action was an infringement of TBoss’ right.

Reacting to Kemen’s action, Payporte, an official sponsor of the reality show, released a statement on social media network, Instagram, condemning the act.

The statement reads: “an official statement from Payporte on the incident between Kemen and TBoss:

“Hello everyone, based on last night’s footage of Kemen making sexual moves on TBoss which sparked a large outrage, we will like to make our stance known on this matter.

“Payporte is strongly against sexual harassment and perversion and we strongly condemn Kemen’s actions.

“We believe individuals whether under influence of alcohol or being sober, should have hive morals.

“We will be taking a decisive action on this. We will be updating you shortly“. The statement added.

Mixed reactions have trailed the eviction of Kemen, who was sent away from the Big Brother Naija house, after he was caught on tape fondling Tboss without her consent.

The show which is hosted by former Big Brother contestant, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has seen five contestants (Soma, Miyonse, Cocoice, Ese and Jon) evicted from the house.

The show which will run for 11 weeks, is broadcasting live in 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on DStv on channel 198 and GOtv channel 29 24/7.

The would-be winner of the reality show will leave the house with N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento car.

  • BBNaija: Very generous Big Brother

    BBNaija: Very generous Big Brother

Arena, cleaned. Entire House, cleaned. And with nothing else on their minds except rest and food, the Housemates gathered around the dining table playing a game of cards while they waited for Uriel’s cooking.

Big Brother called Captain Efe into the Diary room and a new brief was issued.

34_paypote_gather_004_preBiggie’s unhappiness with the attitudes of the Housemates was very evident in the Brief. The Housemates have gotten very complacent in their everyday lives, and their unsanctioned alliances seemed to be their number one distraction from the main objective and the Task today was meant to help them refocus their eyes on the prize.

Biggie also warned that so many House rules had been broken, so the Housemates needed to pull their socks up and stop making demands like little children. Biggie also demanded they be more prudent and cautious in their daily use of water and food stuff as no wastage of food or anything else was allowed or permitted in the Big Brother House.

The icing on the cake was when Biggie informed the Housemates that they have not only lost their weekly wager, but they have also lost their weekly Payporte wardrobe shopping benefits too.
