  • Secondus, Ekweremadu laud PDP primary

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu have congratulated the party for holding a credible primary. Secondus said the hitch free and transparent primary was a consequence of the party’s rebranding and repositioning project.

Secondus said the real winner is democracy and not any individual, adding that the PDP family in Ekiti would be healthier after the primary.

In a congratulatory message  to Governor Ayodele Fayose and other leaders and members of PDP in Ekiti State after the primary, the chairman charged them to note the pre- primary understanding that there will be no winner or loser.

In a statement by  Ike Abonyi, Secondus commended those who made the primary a success, particularly Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and his team. He also commended Prince Dayo Adeyeye for not only accepting the result, but commending the process as free, fair and credible.

Secondus assured members and supporters of the party that the era of impunity and imposition of candidates in the party is gone.

He charged members of the party desiring to fly the flag of the party at any level to return to the grassroots and market themselves because in a rebranded PDP, ticket is not given in party offices, but by the people on the field.

The PDP leader warned the APC  not to create any nuisance in their frustration ahead of the July election as available intelligence shows that the opposition is trying to disrupt the peaceful election.

Secondus urged PDP members to remain vigilant and not relent until the final success is achieved in July.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu also congratulated the Ekiti State chapter of the PDP, for the peaceful primary that produced  Prof. Kolapo Olusola, as the governorship candidate.

He empahsised that more important than the result was the process, noting that the PDP had, once more, showcased the growing internal democracy in the party.

  • Fayose accuses apc of plotting to disrupt pdp primary

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to disrupt the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary scheduled for tomorrow.

Fayose, in a statement he personally signed yesterday, alleged that the APC is planning to sponsor thugs to cause a mayhem during the exercise.

He accused the APC of turning the state into war zone by the way and manner the party conducted its primary on Saturday.

Fayose said: “The APC is plotting to sponsor thugs to disrupt the PDP primary election scheduled for Tuesday, May 8, 2018 so as to create the impression that violent is common to all political parties.

“I therefore, call on security agencies to act decisively to nip this sinister plan in the bud. The police should not shy away from its responsibilities. Ekiti was adjudged by the police as the most peaceful State in Nigeria, it must remain so.

“In the last three years, our State has been peaceful and never witnessed any sponsored political violence or killing until this APC’s desperation sets in.

“I also call on Nigerians, as well as the international community should focus their attention on Ekiti State from now on.  Ekiti people must be allowed to choose their next governor under a free and fair atmosphere.”

The APC Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe, described Fayose’s allegation as laughable, warning the governor against meddling in the party’s internal affairs.

  • Echocho alleges plot to disrupt PDP primary

Echocho alleges plot to disrupt PDP primary

The Jibrin Isah Campaign Organisation (JICO) yesterday alleged that sympathisers of Governor Idris Wada are behind a plot to disrupt the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary tomorrow.

Alhaji Jibril Isah Echocho is a major challenger for the PDP ticket which Wada is also seeking.

A statement by his campaign Director-General, Fenti Dada, drew “the attention of the public as well as security agencies to the plan by the governor’s supporters to disrupt the PDP gubernatorial primaries”.

The statement added: “We have it on good authority that the hunter, who has now become the hunted, has recruited young men, mainly youths, to disrupt the primary by causing bodily harm to delegates and supporters of Alhaji Jibrin Isah Echocho.

“The plot is despicable, desperate and a sign that he (the governor) does not have the interest of the state as well as the party, PDP at heart. Most worrisome is the promise of political appointments to the thugs at the end of the exercise.

“Governor Wada should know that, we are aware of his plan and wish to remind him that as the chief security officer of the state, his responsibility is to protect lives and properties and not the other way round.

“Governor Wada should also be reminded that the recently held gubernatorial primary of the APC was rancour-free, despite the fact that over 27 aspirants were involved.

“The good people of Kogi State deserve a better deal and as such, no amount of intimidation will deter the supporters and well wishers of Alhaji Isah from freely exercising their franchise.

“We wish to assure our numerous supporters that the relevant security organisations have been informed of the wicked plan o and that Governor Wada should be held responsible in the event of any unpleasant occurrence.”

But Wada’s Media Adviser, Jaboc Edi, described the allegation as diversionary..

He said: “This is devious, malicious and diversionary. Let them go to the field and stop crying foul where there’s none. The issues in this primary are very clear. Governor Wada is a stickler for due process. So, it is trite to make such ill-considered and baseless insinuations.

“We challenge them to summon courage and come to the field. But I assure that Wada will win.”

  • Fintiri wins Adamawa PDP governorship primary

Fintiri wins Adamawa PDP governorship primary

The Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, in the early hours of Sunday won the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to complete the tenure of impeached former Governor Murtala Nyako.

Fintiri was voted by 60 per cent of the more than 878 delegates at the poll conducted by a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole.

While a former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Modibbo, came second, a former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa was third.

A source said: “The poll was free and fair. The power of incumbency worked for Fintiri who had secured the loyalty and support of statutory delegates like local government chairmen, councillors, and other political appointees.

“Also before the poll, a former Political Adviser to the President, Ahmed Gulak, stepped down for Fintiri, making up to four aspirants conceding the slot to the Acting Governor.”

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the October 11 governorship election is expected to emerge on Sunday.
