  • Buhari greets Anyaoku at 86

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who turns 86 on Jan. 18.
The president’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Thursday.
The message read, “Buhari joins family, friends and professional colleagues of the career diplomat in celebrating the many years of lofty achievements and contributions to the development of Nigeria, Africa and Commonwealth of nations.”
The president particularly lauded Anyaoku’s personal interventions in promoting good governance, democracy and peace in many nations of the world.

He also saluted the historical role Anyaoku played in the fight for the emancipation of South Africa from apartheid regime.
Buhari further cited Anyaoku’s exemplary role in the “political, diplomatic and developmental issues that had shaped the Africa continent,” including the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity, now called the African Union.
He described Anyaoku as a visionary elder statesman and applauded “his uncompromising position on the unity of Nigeria, which he has  relentlessly pursued, without compromise’’.
The president prayed that God should grant the octogenarian longer life, good health and more strength to continue to render selfless service to his fatherland.

  • PDP, Secondus knock Buhari

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its National Chairman, Prince UcheSecondus, yesterday condemned moves to prosecute the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen for alleged  failure to declare his assets .

The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan accused the Buhari Presidency of plotting to destabilise and annex the judiciary ahead of the coming elections.

He also alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a cabal at the Presidency were hounding Justice Onnoghen.

The plot, according to the PDP, was to get the CJN removed with a view to causing a constitutional crisis, instilling fear in judicial officers ,and paving  the way for foisting a pliable CJN that will do their bidding on electoral matters.

“This development is a clear recipe for anarchy and a huge crisis that is capable of fracturing our justice system and derail our democracy as it portends a prelude to a total clamp down on institutions of democracy and rule of law in our country,” Ologbondiyan said.

It urged all Nigerians, the United Nations and other international bodies to unite in the defence of our democracy, especially at this very critical time in our political development.

The opposition party asked President Buhari to allow Police Inspector General Ibahim Idris to go on retirement if the President was committed to cleaning up the system.

In a separate reaction, national chairman of the party, Secondus accused the APC of attempting to  destroy the  judiciary, barely 30 days to the general election, adding it’s a desperate move to manipulate and thwart the will of Nigerians.

Addressing party supporters at a rally in Jos, Plateau State, Secondus said the APC is afraid of an independent judiciary because of its agenda to rig the elections.

The party chair stated that Nigerians are ready and determined to stop the APC, adding that no amount of threats and harassment will deter the people from effecting what he called inevitable change.

Opposition parties plan one million-man march

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) said yesterday it was planning a one-million-man march to protest the planned trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Spokesperson for the CUPP , Imo Ugochinyere, said in a statement in Abuja that the  protest was aimed at  saving  the  judiciary and Nigeria’s democracy.

He said: “The Presidency had during the appointment of Justice Onnoghen shown its card that it was not comfortable with his appointment hence it was delayed until President Buhari was hurried out of the country due to perennial illness.

“Justice Onnoghen has since shown that he is fair, firm, and able to do justice and will not succumb to the pressures of a Presidency that is planning to rig an election as the only hope of winning reelection following their rejection by the Nigerian people.

“This dastardly move by the Presidency is the last desperate acts of an outgoing government to blackmail the CJN out of office and bring in a rogue judge to allow APC’s rigging.”

He enjoined Onnoghen not to resign for the sake of the nation’s democracy.

He said, “The trumped-up charges will fall like a pack of cards like those filed against the Senate President, Dr. BukolaSaraki and all the judges whose homes were invaded on October 7, 2016.

“These acts of desperation are an unequivocal declaration of war on the Nigerian democracy by the Buhari Presidency and the ruling APC.”

  • APC afraid of losing polls, says Tambuwal

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being afraid to lose the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking on Saturday at the launch of the PDP campaign at the Southern Senatorial District in Bodinga town, Tambuwal alleged APC was bent on collaborating with institutions to win the 2019 polls.

According to him: “If former President Goodluck Jonathan could accept defeat in 2015, President Buhari should also emulate his predecessor.”

The governor, who also expressed concerns over what he described an emerging situation on federal government’s attempt to arraign the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen for false asset declaration.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said: ” I hope it is not true. If so, he should be given fair hearing without any political undertone.”

While urging residents of Sokoto state to vote for the PDP, Tambuwal acknowledged the show of love for him by supporters.

He reassured that if given a second term, he would reposition the education sector with priority to ensuring enrolment of the out- of- school children in school.

“All our children will be returned to school based on the UNICEF reports on OOSC with adequate support, facilities and quality teachers,” he stressed.

The governor also assured his re-election will fasttrack responsive support for farmers and boost fertilizers and input supplies better than the FG intervention scheme.

Former Minister for Water Resources, Barr. Mukhtari Shagari said Tambuwal remains the candidate to beat in Sokoto.

He described APC as a dangerous tablet that cannot cure ailment but one that causes liver and HIV ailments.

Former governor Attahiru Bafarawa said the essence of the party’s movement in support of Tambuwal was to salvage the state and its people from the reigns of failure and underdevelopment of the APC.

According to him: “PDP is set to actualise a rebirth of a new Sokoto state and Nigeria with full opportunities for all.

“My decision to join the campaign train is to ensure the reelection of Tambuwal and to develop education, youth and women empowerment and health, which we agreed to pursue through a result oriented blue print to move the state forward and encourage an all- inclusive government in the state.”

  • PDP denies defection of Atiku’s campaign DG to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO) has denied reports that a Director-General (DG) in the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign team for the North East, has decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A statement issued by PPCO Director Media and Publicity, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, on Saturday in Abuja, said the report was a lie and desperation to deceive Nigerians.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our campaign organisation does not have a DG in the North East as claimed in the malicious tweet.

“Our Campaign structure only has Zonal Coordinators and our Zonal Coordinator in the North East is Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state.’’

Ologbondiyan noted that Sen. Saidu Kumo, who was being celebrated in the APC as having dumped the Atiku campaign team to join President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid, had nothing to do with PPCO and was never assigned any role.

He urged Nigerians to disregard the claims.

“Finally, the PPCO assures all Nigerians, particularly our supporters in the North East that our presidential campaign structure is completely intact and rallying Nigerians in their national consensus to vote in Atiku Abubakar as the next President of Nigeria.’’

Ologbondiyan said that no amount of fabrications could change the reality. (NAN)

  • Ibeto leads former PDP gov aspirants back to APC

Former Ambassador to South Africa Musa Ibeto on Saturday led three other governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress.

Among the defectors are Alhaji Mohammed Baka, Alhaji Hannafi Sudan and Alhaji Dogo Koli, all aspirants in the PDP governorship primaries.

Ibeto had resigned his appointment as the Ambassador to South Africa and defected to the PDP to contest for the governorship candidature but lost to Honorable Umar Nasko.

Ibeto and the other defectors were received by the APC Deputy National Chairman, Niyi Adebayo, during the APC governorship flag off campaign at the trade fair complex in Minna.

Addressing the crowd, Ibeto who was also a former Deputy Governor of Niger state, said: “We have returned home.”

He promised to work for the success of the party in the forthcoming elections.

“We will work to ensure the overwhelming success of APC in February and March elections.

“Just as we did in the past, we will repeat the success. Niger state will be captured by APC,” he stressed.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo expressed optimism that APC would win big at the forthcoming poll.

He said work had been completed on the Baro Port project, which would soon be commissioned as part of effort to boost the economy of the state.

“I want to tell you that President Muhammadu Buhari is very committed to the well-being of Nigerians. The Lagos to Kano railway project is one of such commitments of this administration to ease movement of our people.

“The completion of Baro Port shows that this administration mean well,” he said.

Osinbajo described Bello as ”a young and hardworking man who deserves another four years to continue with the infrastructure development of the state.”

He appealed to the people of the state to support the re-election bid of the governor as well as other candidates of APC.

Niger state Governor Abubakar Bello promised to continue works he started in the state.

  • Centre berates Atiku over attempt to taint COAS, Buratai’s integrity

… demands apology or to face legal action
The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET), has berated the Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for attempting to taint the person and office of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai.
Atiku had listed Buratai among 30 persons he claimed were corrupt and working for President Muhammadu Buhari.
Reacting, the centre said it was wrong for Atiku to drag the army chief into partisan politics.
Osaloni Gbemisola osadua Esq, Executive Director, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, warned the PDP presidential flagbearer against peddling falsehood  that could cause injury to the integrity of others,
He said, “The pressure he is under, from political barometric as of today, is beyond the realization that he is set to lose the presidential election when it holds in a few days from now, the pressure is coming from the appreciation that the result of the polls will permanently and conclusively retire him from politics.
“Rather than heralding a befitting end to an illustrious political career, this damning retirement would demystify Atiku Abubakar’s in the annals of Nigeria’s political history.
The PDP presidential candidate, in fairness to him having not been ever arraigned talk less of being convicted, goes around with the burden of corruption, heavy enough for himself to have acknowledged that allegations of corruption is the heaviest burden he has to carry in his failed quest to rule Nigeria.
“Even though he has now embarked on a revisionism, Atiku Abubakar’s former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, when he has prime contact with the PDP current candidate described him as the most corrupt Nigerian there was. We sympathize with him that he has to go around with this kind of tarnish.
“But it beats the imagination that this same Atiku Abubakar, irrespective of how desperate he has become in his bid to fend off an enforced retirement, is now wildly accusing other upstanding Nigerians of corruption. Our initial thought was that overzealous aides went beyond their briefs to make such accusations on behalf of Atiku Abubakar but we have since learnt that he is in on the game after waiting a considerable time without him walking back the release of the list by one Phrank Shaibu, who is said to be his Special Assistant on Public Communications.
“With the names that made Atiku’s list of corrupt persons connected to President Muhammadu Buhari, even the electorates that will cast the losing votes for him should at this point begin to question the extent to which their choice candidate has succumbed to psychosis.  The list confirmed that Atiku Abubakar’s desperation no longer has much to do about winning but is now the manifestation of a man that has become embittered by the prospect of losing to the extent that he maniacally wants to drag down everyone with him.
“First, the list went on to name the likes of Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Ayodele Oke, the suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). This goes to show that Atiku is obsessed with finding allegations of corruption against President Buhari to the point where the PDP candidate continues to accuse him of being connected to the people he has sacked.
We also saw Bola Tinubu, former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the APC; Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari and other past and serving appointees making the list even when they have never been convicted by any court, save the circus of public opinion convened by Atikulooters.
“Most infuriating for Nigerians is Atiku Abubakar’s indiscretion in including names of patriots like Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, which is wrong on many levels.
“We consider it most unpatriotic to insult a man that is leading Nigerian troops against terrorist in this manner without substantiating the allegations of corruption against him. It is on record that the Code of Conduct Bureau has cleared him long ago and he has not been convicted by any law court. We have followed Buratai antecedents and know him as an honest and transparent man, who has conducted himself appropriately in office.
“It is ridiculous how the same candidate that was harping on the need for the military to be apolitical to now be the one trying to drag the Army into politics.
“The inclusion of a serving military chief in his phantom list is consistent with the errands that Atiku’s minions and urchins have been running on his behalf for several months now. These errands, as have been reported, are meant to undermine the military and provoke a leadership change so that pro-coup-plot officers that are sympathetic to reversing Atiku’s unfolding political twilight will come into office.
This is a brazen threat against our democracy and must not be received halfheartedly. Nigerians must rise up across party line to demand that Atiku contain whatever emotional fall out arising from his imminent loss to himself and not drag the country down with him.
“CESJET warns that attempts by desperate politicians to drag the Army as an institution into politics should be totally discarded as by well-meaning Nigerians will resist such plot using all permissible means.
“There is no law that precludes people from becoming insane by reason of emotional stress brought on by the glaring confirmation of loss at the polls. What the Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) and indeed the entire Nigerians will not condone is when the insanity involves the patient going berserk and indiscriminately throwing muds at honorable citizens, whose weakest moments trump Atiku at his most pious.
“Atiku’s political fortunes are already sinking. It would hurt his credibility if angry Nigerians are further mobilized to increase the margin by which he will be defeated. This will be the case in the event that he continues to drag the wrong persons into his private war with his emotional trauma.
“In addition to demanding that the PDP presidential candidate ceases and desists from peddling rumours that cause injury to the integrity of others, CESJET hereby demand an apology from Atiku Abubakar and his hirelings.
“Considering the impact of Atiku’s indiscretion on the man leading the counter-Insurgency operations in Nigeria, we shall be left with no option in this case than to institute a legal action against him in court if the position of the Chief of Army Staff is not immediately withdrawn from his fake list and apology tendered to General Buratai within two weeks from today.”
  • Group exposes how Obasanjo, PDP, others manipulated INEC to pre-write result

Fresh facts have emerged over what led to the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, earlier slated for Saturday, February 16, 2019.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission had shifted the poll, based on logistics.
However, indications have emerged that leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had earlier manipulated the electoral umpire, who had written a result in favour of the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and some top shots of the PDP were fingered in the foiled move.
The National Front of Nigeria [NFN], which made this shocking revelation at a world press conference on Monday, claimed that the compromise of INEC was so bad that results have been written in favour of the PDP before the Election Day while sensitive election materials were delivered to PDP chieftains in several areas hence the failure of the materials to be delivered to the right destinations and officials at a few hours to the elections
According to the group led by Alhaji Abubakar B Tsav CP rtd, former Public Complaints Commissioner of the Federation, INEC decided to shift the polls after its plan with the PDP failed to materialize Friday night.
The group, therefore, called on the federal government and the relevant authorities not to relent as the manipulators were hell bent of achieving their aim at the rescheduled polls.
It also asked the Commission to identify, sack and hand over its compromised staff to the police for prosecution before proceeding with the election
Full text of his speech below.
In recent hours, events that were previously taken in isolation of each other have now been confirmed to not only be interconnected but they are also pieces in one big puzzle, a grand plan to force regime change on Nigeria while masking the crime as part of the democratic process, viz the general election that has now been postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Because most Nigerians had innocently taken events in isolation, the natural reaction has been one of condemnation of INEC, with several persons and groups accusing the electoral body of working for whatever political party they suspect. We shall come to heaping our criticism on INEC but not before we attempt to alert Nigerians to the real dangers facing them as a people.
Whatever shortcoming has been observed with INEC, its state of readiness, its troubled election logistics and battle with credibility crisis amongst others are nothing but symptoms. It is like an individual having a high fever, pale skin tone, vomiting and a host of other manifestations; the manifestations themselves are not the ailment they are merely symptoms of a deeper infection or life threatening organ damage that the body is dealing with. All efforts can be put into managing or treating the symptoms but they will amount to nought if the root causes of the problems are not addressed. Painfully, INEC is today a microcosm of Nigeria, a country grappling with contrived problems that are nowhere in the region of natural.
It is on record that the period preceding elections, prior to the postponement, witnessed unprecedented spike in the number of Boko Haram attacks that the Nigerian Army repeatedly repelled, often inflicting heavy casualty on the insurgents. In the security circle, intelligence report confirmed that these attacks were intended to produce a situation when it would become glaring that it was impossible to conduct elections.
The objective was such that in the absence of elections there would be widespread uprisings and protests that would have eventually produced an interim government. The repeated defeat of the terrorists made the opposition, in this case the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to be faced with the prospect of going into an election it is guaranteed to lose to the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, who is seeking re-election on the platform of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that prior to this, a former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, cobbled together several alliances and coalitions that failed woefully like every other thing he has ever laid hands on. Even though Chief Obasanjo had in the past invoked God’s wrath on himself if he ever returns to the PDP (he tore his membership card to seal the curse) he has since fully returned to the PDP and is now its most popular gladiator, save the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Obasanjo had made it appear as if certain clerics captured in photo op with him and Atiku were instrumental to brokering peace between him and his former deputy but events have proven otherwise. What they did in Otta on the day they purportedly made peace was to further perfect their scheme against democracy in Nigeria. As we speak, the denomination lead by one of the clerics at that meeting continues to abuse and desecrate the name of God by converting sermons into political campaigns.
In the aftermath of that meeting, Chief Obasanjo initiated contact with his neocon masters. The objective of that contact was to handpick the enforcers that were sent to Nigeria as election observers. Tragically, this is the one area where INEC got it wrong. They accredited these international enforcers without adequate background checks. What has now happened is that a lot of them from western country are in reality in the country to manipulate the presidential election in favour of Atiku Abubakar and the PDP.
The compromised and pre-determined position of these so called observers has been confirmed by several actions they have taken. Instead of working as independent countries, they coordinate to issue statements that are solely intended to erode the public perception INEC, criminalize the federal government and to canonize Atiku Abubakar as a president in waiting even when elections have not held. They have also taken on a belligerent attitude, in which they dictate what they want to happen and expect INEC to frog-march to their tune. All these abhorrent behaviours on the part of the foreign intruders were encouraged by Atiku and his party who wrote several letters upon which they are basing the legitimacy of their interference. Of course they continue to cite the invitation that INEC, because of the naivety of its Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, extended to them to monitor the elections.
This naivety of Professor Yakubu has hurt the country in no small measure. Right under his nose staff of the Commission were compromised by the opposition to the extent that even the final list of candidates were presented for his signature only after Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Chief Obasanjo and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike have approved it. The compromise of INEC was so bad that results have been written in favour of the PDP before the Election Day while sensitive election materials were delivered to PDP chieftains in several areas hence the failure of the materials to be delivered to the right destinations and officials at a few hours to the elections. The logistics failure that prompted the postponement was therefore contrived by these people and not a natural occurrence.
The evil that was planned against Nigeria by Chief Obasanjo and his protégés – Atku, Wike and others is beyond imagination. It was as if he has sensed that Nigerians will vote in a way that will disgrace him with his failed alliances and lying letter so he decided the only way to save face is to manipulate the elections by compromising the umpire. A last minute realization of the crimes that have been committed in INEC is what jolted its Chairman out of his lethargy to postpone the polls in the hope that remedial actions can still be taken to reverse the damage that the PDP, Obasanjo and Atiku have done to its credibility.
Before now, there have been several calls on these men to desist from their acts that are capable of plunging the country into crisis but it is now apparent that they are not amenable to reason. Instead of retracing their steps they have approached their western allies to mount undue pressure on INEC while unfairly accusing the government of the country. They are activating their international enforcers to declare the elections as fraudulent while ignoring the capacity of this irresponsible move to cause widespread unrest. The media is also replete with fake news they are pushing to the effect that the elections would be rigged by the ruling party while in reality they, the PDP, are the ones that are desperate to win in the Obasanjo do or die style.
We call on Nigerians to shift from their indifference to become more assertive in declaring the kind of country they want, a country that faces its challenges headlong under a patriotic leaders or a colony governed by the appointee(s) of western countries. This is why citizens must rise up to the challenge of subduing unpatriotic, corrupt and selfish past political office holders if they must save Nigeria from collapse.  If the progress being made under President Buhari must be reversed for any reason then it must be a decision that Nigerians make with their votes that must be cast without manipulation. Citizens should exercise their right to insist that the progress and national development under a patriotic nationalist like President Buhari is a must.
Our demand to Professor Yakubu and INEC as an institution is simple. The Commission must identify, sack and hand over its compromised staff to the police for prosecution before proceeding with the election. A failure to do this would imply that INEC has no intention of doing the right thing which would greatly undermine its credibility like the western coalition and the opposition has been trying to do. Where INEC fails to yield those indicted for prosecution, we encourage the police to arrest them before the election.
We remind the foreign observers that have been going beyond the terms of their accreditation to retrace their steps. A failure to retrace their steps will guarantee some sort of retribution in the short term and they can be guaranteed that a blend of the internet and the social media will make it possible for aggrieved parties to meddle in their own internal affairs in damaging ways. It is expected that they will not have cause to lament should matters come to that.
We warn that the postponement of the election has not discouraged these mischief makers. They will exploit their other fall back options as they continue to try to hijack power without winning election, which would cause crisis in the country. Nigerians and the Federal Government must therefore not let down their guards as the danger has not passed but has only retreated to mutate into something more evil than its previous option.
  • Atiku’s campaign office in Ebonyi attacked

The campaign office belonging to one of the support groups to Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital was attacked by unknown hoodlums on Friday with its billboards destroyed.

The campaign office which is located along the Mile 50 axis of the old Enugu Road belongs to Friends of Atiku, a support group in the state powered by A House of Representatives member, Linus Okorie.

One of the double-faced billboards mounted near its fence was torn to shreds.

This came barely 24 hours after the leadership of the group informed that over 100 women in its fold have left Ebonyi to Abuja to attend a conference being organised by Atiku’s wives for women across the 36 states of the federation.

Reacting to the ugly incident, the state Coordinator of the group, Chief Linus Okorie, at a press briefing, condemned the attack describing it as a ‘wicked act.’

He disclosed that he was alerted about the incident on phone at about 5:30am.

Okorie, who is currently representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, spoke through the organisation’s coordinator in Onicha Local Government Area, Nnamdi Onu.

Onu said, “As early as 5:30am we began to get calls from people that our office has been attacked by some hoodlums.

“We rushed here and discovered that some of our billboards have been badly damaged.

“We have made a formal report to the security agencies. Yesterday, we noticed some unusual movements around here. We condemn this act in its entirety.

“It is despicable for anybody to think that destroying billboards is a way of enhancing his or her political popularity.

“We appeal to all Ebonyians and Nigerians to be steadfast in their support to our presidential candidate”, he added.

  • FG challenges PDP to prove allegation of campaigning with state funds

The Federal Government on Friday challenged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prove its allegation that the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led government was using state resources for electioneering campaign.

Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed in a statement in Ilorin said that the allegation was made by a media aide to the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

According to Mohammed, Abubakar’s media aide’s allegation was provoked by the ministry’s widely circulated testimony series showcasing the achievements of President Buhari’s administration.

He dismissed the allegation as “acute paranoia’’, stressing that those who made the comment should prove it.

“It is up to those who made the accusation on the use of state resources for electioneering campaign to prove it, in line with the maxim that he who alleges must prove,’’ the minister said.

He said that the Buhari administration’s massive achievements had rattled the PDP and its candidate, and their actions amounted to an acknowledgement of the administration’s impressive accomplishments.

“In publicising the activities and achievements of the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture is only carrying out its statutory role.

“Long before the elections, the ministry has used various platforms, including town hall meetings, to showcase the activities and achievements of the administration.

“We understand that the PDP and the Atiku Campaign Organisation have been rattled by these successes as well as the effectiveness of the campaign to showcase them.

“We are sorry we can’t help them,’’ the minister said.

He expressed surprise that the PDP that had said earlier that the Buhari administration had not achieved anything had now changed its tune.

Mohammed said the PDP had turned around to admit that the media was awash with video testimonies from Nigerians on the Buhari administration’s achievements.

  • PDP plots to cause friction in Southwest

Slyvester Ayodele writes on the plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to cause friction and disunity among Southwest All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders during the general elections.

When some politicians who are renowned for looting Nigeria and causing her to bleed flew to Dubai in October, last year, we all thought they went there to strategise on how the infrastructural projects and social programmes of the Nigerian government can be improved.

We were expecting them to come back to Nigeria to show us plans, even if insincere, of how the current infrastructural projects in the country can be expanded, but they came back with nothing less than one of the things they are known for: mudslinging.

One person they have tried so much to taint is Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. They have tried everything; from accusing him of embezzling public funds; to attempting to break the cordial relationship between him and APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A reliable source close to the PDP hierarchy mentioned the plan to destabilise the Southwest by planting mistrust between VP Osinbajo and Asiwaju Tinubu.

We do not take Nigeria for granted and so we want to state the facts about their accusations.

The first thing is that the House of Representatives never accused the vice president of corruption or embezzlement of funds. The only accusation is that the funds he approved for the emergency situation in the northeast were not budgeted.

The truth however is that the funds in question, meant to pay for food supply to internally displaced persons, was an emergency and was approved in two tranches.

The first was five billion naira which was drawn via the National Food Security Programme, for which request was raised by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria as the facilitator of the programme, in a letter dated May 25, 2017.

This was at a time when the displaced persons and their host communities faced severe food shortages throughout the North East, as a result of successive poor harvests and abandoned farmlands.

It was at a time the World Food Programme (WFP) had issued a warning that it would be reducing its vital support to about 1.8 million IDPs by more than 80%.

There was an immediate need to distribute grains to IDPs, and the only way to obtain the 30,000 Metric Tonnes required was to resort to the National Food Security Progamme (NFSP) earlier established by the Federal Government as a means of shoring up its strategic grain reserves.

The second tranch was 800 million naira approved for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for bagging, transportation, tracking, security, and contingency costs to handle the grains for the IDPs.

On account of the emergency nature of the procurement, these presidential approvals were well within the clear constitutional authority of the then Acting President Osinbajo.

Now to the plot to create mistrust between Osinbajo and Tinubu and their supporters: the Vice President is not unmindful of his roots and will never bite the finger that fed him, or as the Yorubas say ‘A kii ge ika ti o ma a n funni onje’.

It was Asiwaju Tinubu who put Osinbajo’s name forward as the Vice President when then presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari asked him to nominate people for his running mate slot. Tinubu was asked to nominate three people, but chose just Asiwaju one person – Yemi Osinbajo. For someone who has raised leaders in Lagos and other state in this country, and who could easily count 50 people worthy of the VP slot to pick just one shows the level of trust reposed on

Osinbajo. That trust is not one the VP has ever broken or will ever break.

During his time as a commissioner in Lagos, Osinbajo was exceptionally known for integrity and loyalty, in and out of the office.Osinbajo’s loyalty is so legendary that he had to seek the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s permission and blessing before accepting the Vice Presidential candidate slot of the All Progressives Congress.

Nigerians can count on that loyalty from someone who took an oath of office to defend their rights. He has been loyal in his discharge of his duties in Abuja.

Those behind the plot to stain Osinbajo’s stellar life and record are PDP stalwarts in the southwest with friends in the All Progressives Congress who can’t stand Tinubu.

Yes, we have intelligence that some high-ranking people in the APC are collaborating with ‘looting-minded’people in the opposition to cause a rift between Osinbajo and Tinubu.

Their next plan is to cause another rift between Osinbajo and President Muhammadu Buhari.

They believe that once the cordial relationship between Osinbajo and Tinubu is destroyed, the Tinubu house will collapse.

The PDP sympathizers in the southwest mentioned in the plan are the minister of power, works and housing Babatunde

Fashola and Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi, who fancy their chances in the 2023 elections should Tinubu part ways with Osinbajo and refuse to support him.

The plan is to demonise Osinbajo and project him as overly ambitious.
