    PDP’s advice infantile, says Aregbesola

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has described as infantile the Peoples Democratic Party’s advice to the government to sell a helicopter in its fleet to pay outstanding salaries.

Osun PDP through its Director of Media and Strategy, Diran Odeyemi,  in a statement yesterday advised the government to “sell an helicopter Governor Aregbesola said he procured for the state and stop frivolous trips to Cuba to have funds to offset the seven- month workers’ salaries arrears”.”

The party said: “What this administration told us was that the helicopter was for surveillance, but we have since discovered that the chopper is only serving the travelling needs of Mr. Aregbesola and his family.

“This remains one draining pipe that must be blocked.

“We also advise the governor and his aides to stop travelling in chartered aircraft.

“If President Muhammadu Buhari could  travel on commercial airlines, there is need for Governor Aregbesola to follow suit.”

But in a statement by his media aide, Semiu Okanlawon, the governor said the advice  clearly shows how the PDP has become degenerated in its thinking process for its leaders to come up with the selling of a “mere helicopter” in order to pay workers’ salaries.

He said: “The PDP’s advice ought to have been dismissed and never dignified with a response but for the unsuspecting  public who might be tempted to think there is any substance in the proposal.

“It is disheartening to see how PDP leaders think. They screamed ignorantly about two years ago that Osun State procured an N8 billion helicopter.

“We had asked them to find out the cost of a Boeing plane let alone a helicopter which was only leased and it was to beef up the Osun Swift Action Squad (SAS) for its aerial surveilance.

“This was clear to all in the state that the helicopter was procured as part of the Rauf Aregbesola administration’s comprehensive security measures to drive criminals far away from the state.

“So, for the PDP in its narrow  and pedestrian thinking to tell us to sell the helicopter is a sign of intellectual laziness.”

The governor said the allegations that the helicopter is  for his personal use lack any evidence.

“It is obvious the PDP, after it has reached its final bus stop , is merely looking for something to keep it relevant.

“ What could be relevant in a party that never had any touch with the people? What could be relevant in a party that cannot even organise itself to give credible and virile opposition?

“It is therefore certain that allegations such as Aregbesola financing Lagos, Ekiti, and Muhammadu Buhari’s elections are not only laughable; they demonstrate the fact that the PDP cannot even be rescued from its self-inflicted tragedy. It is a party eternally rejected,” Aregbesola said.

  • PDP knocks APC over Buhari’s regional tours

PDP knocks APC over Buhari’s regional tours

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of double standard and insincerity over the recent tours of Chad and Niger Republic by President Muhammadu Buhari for cooperation on the Boko Haram insurgency.

Faulting the tours, the party observed that the APC had criticised former President Goodluck Jonathan for similarly co-opting Chad and Niger in the military offensive against the sect.

A statement yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, faulted the commendation being showered on Buhari for seeking military assistance from Nigeria’s neighbours.

“In the days ahead, Nigerians should expect further unmasking of APC’s double standard and blackmail upon which they rode to power,” the statement said.

The PDP also condemned the APC for allegedly attacking well-meaning Nigerians for daring to offer constructive criticisms to President Buhari, following loss of tempo in the fight against insurgency since he took office.

The PDP lamented that since the APC took over power at the centre, there has been no clear sign of seriousness and direction, “but confusion, selfish infighting and hysteria for positions of power while the nation drifts”.

It noted that the situation was unhealthy for democracy and national development.

  • Kidnapped Abia PDP chieftain freed

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Mr. Israel Mark, who was kidnapped last week by unidentified gunmen has been released.

Mark was kidnapped last Monday near his residence on Ozumba Street, Aba, while returning from work.

A source who pleaded for anonymity said the PDP chieftain was dropped at an undisclosed location in Osisioma, some kilometers away from the commercial city.

In a related development, Police officers from Ndiegoro Division last week foiled the attempted kidnap of an Aba based lawyer, Emeka Uwakolam.

It was gathered that the abductors whisked the lawyer away in his Mercedes ML 320 but were double-crossed by a police patrol at the Ndiegoro jurisdiction.

Police spokesman Ezekiel Onyeke, confirming the incident said the police engaged the hoodlums in a cross fire and overpowered them. The hoodlums however pushed their victim out of the car and escaped.

Onyeke said persons hit by stray bullet were recuperating in an undisclosed hospital in Aba, adding that Uwakolam’s car had been recovered from where it was abandoned at Abayi Community Hall.

He added that a Honda Element with blood stains was recovered.

  • ‘A lot of things went wrong in PDP’

‘A lot of things went wrong in PDP’

Dr. Samuel O. Ogbemudia is a member of PDP Board of Trustees and a former governor of old Midwestern and Bendel states. The retired Army General spoke with Osemwengie Ben Ogbemudia on a number of issues. Excerpts

The PDP lost the presidential election and shortly after that there are calls for the NWC and the BOT to be dissolved, what is your view on that?

First of all, we have to look at the set up of the party. Today, the PDP is headed by a Board of Trustee that advises the National Working Committee or executive at each turn, when asked to do so. So, if in the process they lost an election, it is quite straight forward for the people responsible to take responsibility for their action and therefore they should give way to a new executive that will rebuild the party but the PDP case is not like that. I understand that the candidate had set up a team to campaign for him and for the party so the fault is not that of the executive or the NWC but the person who took the decision. So my view is that the PDP should set up a committee to find out what went wrong and how to rebuild the party because they are still the strongest organised party in the country and they need to work hard in order to win the next election if they have the appetite to win.

But the way the party is today, do you think there is still hope for it to take over power in four years’ time as some of the leaders are saying?

First and foremost, you must look at the PDP; they mismanaged their victory and haven mismanaged the victory, the outcome is defeat; so if they want to win future elections against a determined party like the APC, they must work twice as hard as they have done in the past.

Some people are attributing the failure of the PDP to the hate campaigns it indulged in, do you agree?

Well, a lot of people will say a lot of things, but what individuals find on the ground may be different, there is no doubt at all that there was a campaign of hatred, campaign of dislike, religious campaigns but all that put together may not have affected the PDP’s chances if they had put their home right but they didn’t. Quite a substantial percentage that make up APC today were formally PDP and each time a person left, they said let him go, we can do without him; so now, they have found that they couldn’t do without them. So, it is part and parcel of a sensible re-organisation, rehabilitation for the party to sit down and find out what went wrong. Once they have done that, which is not a job of three hours of two days, they must sit down and talk to everybody that is worth talking to in order to ascertain and identify what went wrong; a lot of things went wrong.

What are some of these things that went wrong being a leader of the South-South that supported Jonathan?

It will be unfair on Jonathan if I say I am disappointed at his activities but what I want to say is this, PDP is made up of responsible people in the country but these responsible people are people who do not welcome any type of challenge, any type of argument and any type of interference; so once they took their decisions, they didn’t want anyone else to find out what led to that decision, so nobody should challenge them, so because of that, they held Jonathan hostage.

Some Nigerians believe that Jonathan lost because of the way he handled the issues of insecurity, the economy and corruption. How will you assess his activities in these areas?

Nigerian politics has not developed to the stage where they recognise economy, unemployment and others; we are at the strategy where we look at the individual, where he comes from, what he can do for us and then support or don’t support him; so I believe that a few intellectuals may have looked at the economy and said yes it is good, it is not to good; they might have complained of unemployment but they were like lone voices in the wilderness.

What is your advice to Buhari?

You will excuse me if I say anything in favour of Buhari. We want it written by historians many years to come that the coming of the General saved the nation from total collapse. To achieve that all hands must be on deck, the hands of the old generals, the retired ones and those who are in office. But having said that, I know Buhari when he was commissioned into the Nigerian Army in the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. I also know that he served under a number of senior officers and every year they wrote confidential reports in respect of each officer, including me. And including the officer who is writing because what you write about other people also indicate what you look like. So, every one of the superior officer concluded that Buhari is a competent hand. But that was many years ago. Can we say that the energy of 1966, 1963, is still very much present? It may not but what is absolutely available is the lessons learnt from those intervening years. I know that Buhari will not want to fail because the expectation is so high that he will not want people to say we are disappointed.

We need to have people who are best in organizing the economy of the country. But you must admit one thing, since APC has not run a federal government, this is their first time, therefore like all first timers, like all new brooms, they must sweep well. Otherwise the song four years hence will be different.

Are you worried over Buhari’s certificate allegation?

When I joined the Army, the Army took my certificate, two reasons why they did that: Some people got trained by the Army and when they come back, they can no longer go along with the salaries that the army was paying, they will disappear so because of that, the army will keep your certificate. When I was retiring, the army gave me back my certificate and that was what I was looking for to show you, (Searching his cupboard for the certificate). So, I was surprised when I heard them say Buhari has no certificate. But even if he has no certificate, there is examination in the army. The time we started the examination they called it Royal West African Frontier Force Entrance Examination and you are not allowed to take it unless you present your certificate or your school writes that you have taken the exams and they believe you will pass. And if the results come and you fail, they will send you out. However, they were some military people if in the process they send you to school they call it remedial courses, so if you did not have school certificate by the time you finished the three years course you are better than the school certificate holder. So, I believe Buhari’s case was a situation where people try to call a dog a bad name in order to hang it. But that notwithstanding, Buhari has been elected. What Nigerians want is development; what Nigerians want is good governance; what Nigerians want is a man who will give credit to their representation.

You have also been blamed that you left the management of the party in Edo state to Chief Anenih alone, how will you react to that?

Those who are saying that have my sympathy, sympathy arising from ignorance. In 1999, the PDP won the election to Edo State Government House; the leaders, we were three of us; Chief Anenih and Chief Igbinedion and I. Two of us, I and Igbinedion decided to stay at home and help the governor to ensure he succeeded. Chief Anenih, a very brilliant and unassuming politician, was sent to Abuja to represent the state. And he did. But as time went on things fell apart and the center could not hold and that was it. Anenih is not the course of our problem, anybody who says he can fight election in Edo State without Anenih may not be telling you the truth. Everyone has its own job, my job was to stay at home and support the governor which I did to the best of my ability. Anenih was to stay in Abuja to draw the attention of the federal government to the activities of the governor of the state so that they can help him and he excelled.

If both of you worked together, how come the party was factionalized then, you led a faction while Anenih led the other faction?

I don’t know that but what I know was that Prof. Osunbor lost the election in the court of law; he is a Professor of Law so he cannot complain that he did not get justice because he knew what to do. The factionalization of the party was based on a different criterion. The party at the headquarters in Abuja was expected to intervene before things went out of hand but for reasons known best to them, they decided to leave things as they are. But I now know that the reason was that they were not much interest in Edo State because when we lost the election, the National Chairman of the PDP then was asked how he felt, he said well they are not supposed to control every state in Nigeria, so losing Edo State is not a serious matter. Before the court judgment, I telephoned Osunbor from London. I said I heard that the federal government has traded in Edo and Ondo, can you go and see the President and from his table, phone me so that I can speak to him. He came back and he told me that the President asked him what will he benefit if he trades Edo out? So, he believed that the President was not doing what they accused him of. But later, what I told him came to pass. All these are now history and they are essential development in the scene of democracy. So, what we should be looking forward to is not the man feeding the horse, but the man sitting on top of it. So, we look at the future, where are we going to? If the PDP wants to pack up then they must tell us. People have asked me if I am still in PDP? I said yes and I will remain. Many months back, PDP people accused me of belonging to APC, and that in the day time at Abuja I was in PDP and in the night in Benin I was APC. Now, yesterday I heard that the APC people are saying Ogbemudia is a PDP man, leave him alone, at least I have been vindicated.

  • PDP: we have no candidate for Senate Presidency

PDP: we have no candidate for Senate Presidency

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the party has no candidate for the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President.

Rising from its weekly National Working Committee (NWC) at its national secretariat yesterday, the party denied alleged plots to take the post from the All Progressives Congress (APC) which has a majority of the members.

Addressing reporters shortly after the meeting the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh said, “We have decided to inform Nigerians that the PDP has no candidate for the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President”.

He said the senators are mature and experienced enough to conduct their affairs, adding that they are capable of taking decisions on their own without interference from the party.

“We have decided not to dabble into leadership selection process in the National Assembly because we have learnt our lessons from past experiences,” Metuh stated.

He said the meeting of PDP senators and senators-elect held with the leadership of the party in Port Harcourt on Monday did not discuss the election of Senate President and the deputy.

According to him, what is paramount in the agenda of the PDP is how to organise itself and strategise for the role of credible opposition and offering alternative policy suggestions.

Also yesterday, Senator-elect Peter Nwaoboshi urged the  APC to stop accusing the PDP of plotting to take over the Senate Presidency in the next National Assembly. He expressed support for the Senator Bukola Saraki.

He said: “We must quit playing with mundane things. At this point in our national history and in our bid to further entrench the ethos of democracy as concerns the principle of Separation of Power.  We all agreed that competent and capable hands must be elected or put in position of authority.

“In that respect, Senator Saraki is the most qualified to occupy the seat of the Senate President. He is a detribalized Nigerian. He was once a chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and in that position, he was able to hold the various governors from different political parties together.

“He is not somebody that anybody can just pick up and dictate to. This means he will not allow any external force to dictate to us in the Senate. He has done it before, even in Kwara State.

“If you remember, there was a time the younger sister wanted to run for the governorship seat but Saraki put his feet down and said, ‘no. For the sake of justice and equity, I will not be in support of that”, said Nwaoboshi.

  • Expelled Bayelsa PDP members sue party

Expelled Bayelsa PDP members sue party

State High Court sitting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, yesterday granted an ex parte order for a substituted service on members of the state’s Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The committee expelled key members of the party for alleged anti-party activities.

Ruling on the motion, the Chief Judge (CJ), Justice Kate Abiri, said the defendants in the originating suits could be served by pasting the court processes on the fence of the state’s PDP secretariat on Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Road in Yenagoa.

The case was instituted by PDP’s suspended State Chairman Sam Inokoba and a chieftain, Osom Blankson.

It is challenging the legality and constitution of the committee to expel members for alleged anti-party activities.

The defendants are: Governor Seriake Dickson; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Kemasuode Wodu; PDP’s State Secretary, Mr. Godpower Keku and members of the committee, headed by Mr. Cleopas Moses.

The lead lawyer to the applicants, Dr. Sylvanus Abila, told Justice Abiri that the court bailiff  served the first two defendants, adding that  the third to 10th defendants had been evading service.

Justice Abiri granted the order for a substituted service.

She adjourned the matter till today to take a motion on the amended application for an interim injunction stopping the party from taking further action against the applicants.

One of the plaintiffs’ lawyers, Mr. Jackson Suokiri, expressed happiness over the approval of a substituted service on the defendants.

  • ‘Lawan ’ll build consensus between APC and PDP senators’

‘Lawan ’ll build consensus between APC and PDP senators’

The Senate Unity Forum, led by Senator Barnabas Gemade, has reiterated its support for the ambition of the Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Ahmad Lawan and Minority Leader George Akume for the Senate President and Deputy Senate President. Gemade spoke with Assistant Editor Onyedi Ojiabor and Sanni Onogu on the position of the forum.

What essentially is the Senate Unity Forum?

The Senate Unity Forum is made up of many senators from all the geo-political zones of the Federation, united in one common course – to actualize the Senate Presidency of Senator Ahmad Lawan from Yobe State and Deputy Senate Presidency of Senator Dr. Goerge Akume from Benue State. The Senate Unity Forum has decided that these two gentlemen, being the most ranking Senators and by the grace of God, also, the most qualified in the fold of the All Progressives Congress returning to Senate in the Eighth Senate that they are the best people to lead us as leaders and as presiding officers when we are inaugurated.

    What informed this decision?

We took this decision, very conscious of the fact that the standard of the Nigerian Senate has been improving gradually since 1999 and its stability has also improved dramatically and we would want to maintain that stability as well as continue to improve on the standard and the quality of Nigerian Senate.

On Monday, May 25, Senator Bukola Saraki displayed a list of 34 Senators-elect that has endorsed his candidacy. When will the Unity Forum publish its list?

We are not publishing the entire list of all the Senators that have signed in on this project because we know that a lot is still being done and in some cases, so much speculations are being made and indeed, a lot of claims are being made and it is not proper to join anyone in making claims that are not well thought out and well proven. For this reason, even though today, we have about 40 APC Senators-elect that have keyed in on this project, we do wish to launch such a list when thy have all returned to Abuja. We have a large number of PDP and other party Senators-elect that also keyed in on this project. We will like to unveil that list when most of our members that have traveled and those that are already in their own states for the purpose of inauguration of new governments return to Abuja. We do not want to announce to you that we have 40 and then, 22 or 23 appear at the press conference which may have happened  in the past. The day we will give you the list, all those concerned will be sitting with us and you will match the name with their faces.

What will senator Lawan do differently as Senate President?

The Senate everywhere in the world is known to be the stabilizing chamber in every democracy. Thank God I have been in the Senate in the last eight years after my eight-year sojourn in the House of Representatives. I believe that this time, the Eighth Senate should be a Senate where independence of the Legislature will be a key thing and cooperative governance and partnership with the executive arm of government would be enhanced.  We have had about eight years of stability in the Senate and that is a thing that I would build on…On the independence of Legislature, until we are able to be independent of the Executive, we cannot properly position ourselves to undertake our responsibilities and discharge our mandate. There is need for us to always build consensus in the Eighth Senate and you will agree with me that the Eighth Senate is unlike any other Senate in the history of Nigeria. That is because you  have 59 APC Senators and 49 PDP Senators in opposition. The gap is narrow and that calls for consensus building and cooperation in and among Senators for anything meaningful to be achieved by the Senate. So, I intend to always build consensus between the two sides. I always believe that the we must cooperate with the executive arm of government. Until there is cooperation between us based on mutual respect and understanding, we may not achieve much. I recall in my first time in the House of Representatives,  there was too much power tussle in the Legislature, particularly between the House then and the executive arm of government and nothing was achieved. We do not want to see a repeat of that. Yet, the National Assembly must not be a rubber stamp. I also believe the cost of government is high and the level of corruption, intolerable. We will join President Muhammadu Buhari to fight corruption and all corrupt tendencies through legislation to ensure that whatever resources we are able to get is judiciously utilized rather than ending in private pockets.

Before you unveil Senators backing this project, can we see proof of that support?

As for proof of support, I want to put it this way, our candidate for Senate Presidency is the only one that two zones went out, publicly held meetings and endorsed. Ahmad Lawan was endorsed by the South West and North West caucus of the APC. The South West has 13 senator and the North West has 20 members under APC. Nobody, out of those zones, came out to deny that there were caucus meeting and Lawan was endorsed and this is to tell you that no matter what percentage that disagrees or are not on board, must be a very small, insignificant number. Now, to the other two zones that have many senators of the APC, which is the North East and the North Central. This is the territory where the contestants are from, and, therefore, obviously, there will be a divided number of vote in these two zones.

Do you have the temperament required to handle this position?

I believe I possess the temperament that is required to run the Senate from June 9 by the grace of God. While I have never been a Presiding Officer, I believe that I have learnt a lot from the presiding officers  in the House of Representatives where I had experience working with three Speakers and I have also watched and very closely related with the current presiding officers in  the Senate for the last eight years. So, I believe I have garnered enough experience to deal with issues. As for tensions, I am not praying for tension but I believe that at some times in the Legislature, tempers may rise high. We will always try to control the situation. In fact, we will try to be as proactive as possible by ensuring that issues that could cause tension to be high are not allowed to escalate. I think with that kind of preventive approach, we could reduce the tendencies that could create tension.

Has the Unity Forum reached out to the 49 Senators of the PDP?

We have been reaching out to them. Perhaps when we present ourselves after the inauguration, maybe early June, you will see who our supporters in the PDP are but I want to assure you that majority of the PDP Senators-elect are on this ticket. That is to say they have a preference for us. We have already shown the world who we are, that is, the Senate President-designate and the Deputy Senate President-deputy designate. Others who are running  are not able to do so and I believe this an opportunity for Senators and Senators-elect to make up their minds who their presiding officers will be.

Why is there controversy in number? You claim 40 APC Senators-elect are on your side yet, Senator Saraki, too, claims to have 34 members on his side?

Let me make it very clear to you that it is the very foundation of the clumsy way of showing you a list with signatures that we do not want to do so because a list with signatures does not prove anything. First of all, you must get the person physically to tell you that ‘yes, my name on that list is by my authorization, the signature on that list was signed by me.’ We want to show you a list when all the people concerned are sitting with us. So, if you are making reference to the fact that one group shows the list and the other does not and therefore, one of them is lying, we will not be the one who will tell you here who is lying. I think it should be your business to find out who is lying and at the appropriate time, I think you will do Nigeria a very good service when you finally have found out who lied to say so publicly in your newspaper. As far as we know, we stand by our figure of 40 and the day we unveil that list we will have the people seated and that day you will photograph them and not just see the list.

  • We have no candidate for Senate Presidency – PDP

We have no candidate for Senate Presidency – PDP

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said the party has no candidate for the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President.

Rising from its weekly National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at its national secretariat, the party denied alleged plots to take the position from the All Progressives Congress (APC) which has a majority of the members.

Addressing reporters shortly after the meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said, “We have decided to inform Nigerians that the PDP has no candidate for the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President.”

The party expressed fears that the APC might influence decisions in ongoing election cases at the various tribunals.

  • •PDP cries foul

The Akwa Ibom State All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the movement of the Elections Petitions Tribunal from Uyo, the state capital, to Abuja.

The tribunal was set up to look into petitions from aggrieved contestants in the March 28 National Assembly and April 11 governorship and Houses of Assembly elections.

It was learnt that as from today, the tribunal would be conducting its business in Abuja, for security reasons.

APC’s state Chairman, Dr. Amadu Attai, backed the relocation.

The chairman noted that the atmosphere in the state was not conducive for legislative business.

He said the party was satisfied with the decision, adding that APC hoped to get unbiased judgment at the tribunal.

Attai said: “When we went to the tribunal in Akwa Ibom, we were often harassed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Even, the tribunal members did not live where they were supposed to live. Some of them lived in the accommodation provided by government officials. But now, we are confident that we would get a good judgment.”

On the burden of sponsoring witnesses to Abuja, since APC is the petitioner in the cases before the tribunal, Dr. Attai said such would pose no serious problem.

The chairman said sponsoring its witnesses was akin to the way the party financed its campaigns during the elections.

But the state’s PDP Chairman Paul Ekpo said it appeared only the tribunals in PDP-controlled states were being ordered back to Abuja.

The chairman argued that the movement had caused confusion in the party’s activities.

He said: “The PDP did not set up the tribunal. The Judiciary set up the tribunal. But what we are shocked and surprised about is that the tribunal, which has been doing its work without any disturbance from the party or anybody here, is suddenly being ordered to move Abuja.

“Again, you note that prior to this, APC was telling everybody that when Muhammadu Buhari is sworn in as President, the tribunal would be asked to move to Abuja. When they move to Abuja, the election will be annulled. But is Buhari not the President of the country?

“PDP ruled this country before. There are states that were in opposition. Even Lagos, which they are using to mount an attack on us, was an opposition state. The PDP never destabilised the functionality of such states. I keep saying that Buhari is a statesman and the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man. If the Judiciary begins to show bias for one party, I wonder what kind of democracy we are going to practise here.

“So, we condemn that and we pray that the President or the Chief Justice of the Federation, or whoever set up the tribunal, should allow it to stay at its original place so that the people, especially witnesses, would not have to travel to Abuja to make presentations. The tribunal should be allowed to do its work.

“Why do you move the tribunal to Abuja? There is also a similar scenario in Abia State. So, why all the PDP states? If you want to move all the tribunals to Abuja, then do so; don’t select the tribunals.”

  • Marwa quits PDP

    Marwa quits PDP

Former Lagos State Military Governor Mohammed Buba Marwa has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A statement yesterday in Abuja by his media aide, Bello Zubairu, said “the former military governor decided to quit the PDP on personal grounds.”

Before the emergence of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Marwa was the governorship candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Adamawa State. After the merger of the party with others to form the APC, thousands of his supporters were technically denied the opportunity to register in the new party.

Although the statement is silent on whether Gen. Marwa will return to the APC, it, however, said “the retired General will make public his next line of action in the coming days.”

“He appeal to his supporters and well-wishers, who have been calling him for direction from across the country, to await his next move,” the statement added.
