Why we’re against device, by PDP

THE presidential campaign organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again kicked against the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use Smart Card Reader for Saturday’s election.

At a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, the Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, alleged that INEC has colluded with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to compromise the Card Readers.

According to him, the contract for the production of Card Readers was awarded to companies owned by a friend and supporter of the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Fani-Kayode said: “Our concerns stem from the fact that the moving spirit and a major shareholder and board member of the company that supplied the card reader system and machines to INEC is not only a friend of, but also an ardent and keen supporter of General Muhammadu Buhari and the APC.

“That man’s name is Sani Musa and he is indeed the main force behind the company. The company’s name is Act Technologies Ltd and the chairman of the company is one Engineer S.K. Danladi.

“How and why INEC would give the contract to supply the Card Readers to a fanatical APC supporter and to a man whose other company was officially blacklisted by INEC a couple of years ago for sharp practices, needs to be explained.”

He said Sani Musa has expressed his undying support for the APC and General Buhari and his hatred as well as opposition to the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan on his Facebook wall.

He said the biggest and most brazen attempt to rig elections in the history of our country will take place on Saturday if the necessary measures are not taken to prevent it.

  • Again, PDP kicks against Card Readers

Again, PDP kicks against Card Readers

The presidential campaign organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again kicked against the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use of Smart Card Reader for Saturday’s election.

At a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, alleged that INEC has colluded with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to compromise the card readers.

According to him, the contract for the production of card readers was awarded to companies owned by a friend and supporter of the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Fani-Kayode said: “Our concerns stem from the fact that the moving spirit and a major shareholder and board member of the company that supplied the card reader system and machines to INEC is not only a friend of but also an ardent and keen supporter of General Mohammadu Buhari and the APC.

“That man’s name is Sani Musa and he is indeed the main force behind the company. The company’s name is Act Technologies Ltd. and the Chairman of the company is one Engineer SK Danladi.

“How and why INEC would give the contract to supply the card readers to a fanatical APC supporter and to a man whose other company was officially blacklisted by INEC a couple of years ago for sharp practices, needs to be explained.

“Sani Musa has expressed his undying support for the APC and General Buhari and his hatred and virulent opposition to the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan openly and publicly on his Facebook wall.

“Some of his comments on Facebook read as follows: I stand with him (Buhari) for whatever reason and I imagine the kind of people given spaces in our nation’s news tabloids.  Hoodlums are having field day in Nigeria since the inception of GEJ’s administration.  Mad men, hooligans and vultures have taken over decency of the society.  May Allah save us from the torments of this (sic) rascals and expose their intentions on our nation state be it the Boko Haram, killer militants or by extension those in authority with wicked intentions-Amen.

“Worst still, it is clear that certain aspects of and electronic components within the card reader system which will be used in Saturday’s election have not only been compromised but that the encryption codes and so-called ”master key” may have been made available to the opposition or their friends and agents. This will enable them to access the system, fabricate and generate fake votes and manipulate the voting patterns to their advantage.

“This constitutes a very serious breach of security and it is a criminal offence. It is also very dangerous. Worst still it can easily be carried out successfully because, if done quietly and properly and without any deep scrutiny, it is virtually fool-proof.

“All you need to make it work is to have certain relevant and key INEC officials that are in the know to work closely with the supplier of the card readers and an opposition party that is so hungry and desperate for power that they are ready to pay large sums of money to their friends and associates to help them get it by hook or by crook.

“We believe that all those components are now in place and that the biggest and most brazen attempt to rig elections in the history of our country will take place on Saturday if the necessary measures are not taken to prevent it.

“If the conspiracy is not exposed, if the Nigerian people do not rise up and demand answers, if the plan is not intercepted and aborted, if the Chairman of INEC does not answer the relevant questions and take the necessary steps and if the relevant individuals, including Sani Musa and his collaborators and co-conspirators in INEC and the opposition, are not called to order, arrested, interrogated and prosecuted their plan may well succeed.

“In view of this dastardly plan that is in the offing and this unwholesome conspiracy, we call on the party leadership and faithful to direct our supporters and polling agents to be very vigilant at every polling booth and to guard and protect their votes. After voting they should stay at the polling booths to ensure that their votes are counted and that they are not manipulated or changed.”

  • ‘No Rivers commissioner will abandon Amaechi’

‘No Rivers commissioner will abandon Amaechi’

Contrary to the claim by the Rivers State Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Felix Obuah, that only five commissioners will be left with Governor Rotimi Amaechi, after a mass defection soon, from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, the 32 members of the state executive council have insisted that they are intact, completely loyal and will not betray Amaechi.

The Rivers Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, who is still the Deputy Chairman of the state executive council, stayed away from Wednesday’s second emergency “exco” meeting, which took place at the council chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt and presided over by Amaechi, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and the Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organisation.

The Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, who briefed reporters at the end of the “exco” meeting, stated that in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ikuru remains the state’s deputy governor.

Obuah, in Port Harcourt on Monday, at a reception for Ikuru, which was also attended by the Rivers governorship candidate of the PDP, Chief Nyesom Wike, and other leaders of the party, declared that most of Amaechi’s commissioners would soon move to the opposition party, an indication, according to him, that the government had failed.

The Rivers PDP chairman said at Monday’s reception for Ikuru: “Amaechi has only five commissioners. More than two-thirds of the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have joined the PDP. They are already talking with me. Today (on Monday), we are celebrating one of our own (Ikuru) and his teeming supporters, who have seen reasons in what we are fighting for.”

Semenitari, however, admonished the peace-loving people of Rivers state to ignore that lies and senseless propaganda of Obuah and other PDP leaders, while urging them to continue to support the Amaechi’s administration and massively vote for only the candidates of the APC on March 28 and April 11.

The Rivers information commissioner said: “The executive council meeting was chaired by His Excellency, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Issues of concern to Rivers State were discussed. As at wednesday, no formal resignation letter from His Excellency, the Deputy Governor (Ikuru) has been presented to the exco. The Chairman of exco (Amaechi), however, briefed the exco that he had read in the media and received reports of the defection of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor.

“Exco also received information from members of the exco from the local government area (Andoni) of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, that indeed the Deputy Governor had been received by the PDP. That means indeed His Excellency, the Deputy Governor had defected to the PDP.

“His Excellency, the Governor had told exco that this (Ikuru’s defection) does not in any way affect the status of the Deputy Governor  of Rivers State. Members of exco wish to reiterate the fact that as members of exco, we remain loyal and committed to the Governor of Rivers State and to the people of Rivers State. All members of exco, who belong to the APC, as at Wednesday, remain members of the APC. None of us has resigned our positions with the APC. None of us intends to resign our positions with the APC.

“Exco, however, took a decision to request that the security agencies ensure security during the elections of March 28 and April 11. Exco has received disturbing reports of violence in various LGAs and the Government of Rivers State wishes to request that the security agencies guarantee the safety of lives and property of citizens. Exco, however, encourages Rivers people to come out in their number and perform their civic responsibilities to the country and to themselves.”

Semenitari also disclosed that Amaechi had directed the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, George Feyii, to ensure that no stone was left unturned to guarantee the security of lives and property of the people of Rivers state.

Semenitari stressed that Amaechi also assured that the lives and property of Rivers people would be safe before, during and after the general elections.

  • Jonathan, PDP shortchanged Ndigbo – Buhari Campaign Organization

Jonathan, PDP shortchanged Ndigbo – Buhari Campaign Organization

The campaign team of Gen Mohammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC) says the reason why Ndigbo will not vote for President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday because he shortchanged the people.

Speaking with reporters Wednesday in Awka, Anambra state coordinator Gen Buhari’s Presidential Committee Council (PCC), Chima Okafor, a lawyer, said the injustice against Ndigbo had become unbearable.

Besides, the lopsided midterm report of the Present administration of Jonathan on expenditure showed that the South East got only 74 billion naira representing a paltry 5.2 percent.

While North Central got 497 billion naira (35%), Northwest 296 billion naira (21%), South West 216 billion naira (15.1%), South South 212 billion naira (15%) and North East 116 billion naira (8.2%).

Okafor said that Ndigbo should forget sentiment on Saturday in making sure that Jonathan and his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were voted out, adding that politics was based on facts and figures.

Furthermore, he sounded it clear that South South People were not our brothers or sisters as being speculated, adding that they were only our neighbors who failed to vote for any Igbo person during the past elections in the country.

“This injustice against Ndigbo should be revisited in this election and it has to stop which has become so glaring and we believe the people in the South East will not want the thing to continue.

“When you talk of abandoned property in this country, is it not in the South South of then old Rivers State? Our people will not allow themselves to be deceived further.

“This election is a referendum on Jonathan’s administration, where he has not done justice to infrastructure, the economy in the South East.

“President Goodluck Jonathan must take responsibility for the infrastructural decay in the south East, we have not got any single new project in the area but only rehabilitation and we have continued to play the fool after given him the highest number of votes in 2011.

“There is massive deindustrialization in the South East which has led to many people losing their lives, then tell me why the people should vote Jonathan again in 2015” Okafor questioned?

He said that Ndigbo had invested so much in PDP without gaining anything, adding that the people should now invest in the APC for real positive change on Saturday’s election.

Also, facts don’t lie, as published by the Amalgamated Youth Organization of Jonthan, Sambo North West zone support group recently, showed that the present administration had done more projects elsewhere without doing any single one in the South East.

According to Okafor, all the federal roads in the South East were death traps, with over 1,000 Igbo sons and daughters being killed along Enugu-Port Harcourt and Onitsha –Enugu express ways through Motor accidents.

Before now, the president announced in 2012 that he would go in exile if the 2nd Niger Bridge was not completed in 2015, a pronouncement he made at a town hall meeting in Onitsha, Anambra state, yet, and nothing had been done at the site.

The Igbo leaders were insulted by the president again Tuesday morning, when he shared them a paltry 200,000 naira each at Owerri, which was coordinated by his foot soldiers, after sharing out thousands of dollars to traditional rulers in other zones recently.

  • Violence: Ahmed petitions presidency, IG, NSA, DSS

Violence: Ahmed petitions presidency, IG, NSA, DSS

The Kwara state government has petitioned the presidency, Inspector General of Police (IGP) altering them on the new spate of violence orchestrated by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Also petitioned are National Security Adviser (NSA) and Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS).

Suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs last Saturday allegedly attacked some All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Osi and Obbo-Aiyegunle, Ekiti local government area of the state.

The state Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed told reporters in Olooru, Moro local government area of the state during the campaign tour of the council.

Governor Ahmed said that “the petition to the security agents is to forestall this kind of violence and allow for free and fair electoral processes.”

He said: “The violence in the two communities in Ekiti local government allegedly perpetrated by PDP thugs is an unfortunate situation and we have written our petition to the President, Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba and other stakeholders on security including the National Security Adviser (NSA) and DSS alerting them on the new spate of violence that has been started by the PDP the moment it started its campaigns in the state.

“Don’t forget that we had done our campaign in about 14 local government areas hitch-free without any violence. Violence started when PDP commenced its campaigns with sporadic shootings and attacks.”

Speaking on the incident, former governor of the state, Senator Bukola Saraki urged security agents to call the governorship candidate of the PDP, Senator Simeon Ajibola to order.

His words: “As you know out of the 16 local government areas in the state, it has always been that same local government we experienced violence during campaigns. When the APC took its governorship campaign tour there, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s convoy was attacked by suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs.

“Last week again, when the PDP governorship candidate took his campaign there, some of the PDP thugs again unleashed mayhem in the two communities vandalizing people’s property.

“The PDP governorship candidate must be held responsible. It is not by coincidence. Why is it that every time the PDP candidate is going around there will be violence?
On the deployment of soldiers across the 16 local government areas of the state, Governor Ahmed said “it is part of the responsibility of ensuring that we have a hitch-free election

“By and large, we have been carrying on advocacy to our people telling them to go about their work diligently without any breakdown of law and order; that the security agents they are seeing should not be source of intimidation for them.”

  • 15,000 visually-impaired Voters get free eye treatment

Determined to ensure mass participation in the forthcoming elections, women leaders and stakeholders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State have launched a free eye screening and treatment of eligible voters.

The free health scheme which targeted the visually-impaired eligible voters across the three Senatorial Districts of Ikot Ekpene, Eket and Uyo had 15,000 beneficiaries at the designated centres including Abak, Eket and Uruan.

Organised under the aegis of ‘Friends of Martha Organisation’ (FMO), a frontline socio-political group rooting for the continuity of governance under the ruling PDP, the women said the programme became necessary to avoid the disenfranchisement of voters during the elections.

The President of the group, Mrs. Ime Ephraim Inyang, who underscored the importance of returning President Goodluck Jonathan; the election of Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State; Chief Godswill Akpabio for the Senate as well as all PDP candidates, urged the electorates to shun the sentiments and vote for the PDP.

She explained that the free eye testing and treatment of the less privileged was borne out of “the need to help the visually-impaired voters to be able to identify the PDP Umbrella symbol on the ballot papers and vote correctly for their candidates.”

Tagged: “Operation see clear to vote right”, the scheme also provided avenues for the women coordinator, Mrs. Inyang, to indulged the beneficiaries to come out massively to vote this weekend for President Jonathan and other PDP candidates to the National Assembly.

“As one of the dependable States in the PDP family, if we fail to vote for Mr. President and other PDP candidates, we stand to lose so many good things from the centre.

“Don’t forget the Maritime University, the Ibaka Deep Seaport and other projects that Mr. President promised for this State during his last campaign visit. These projects when implemented will surely change the socio-economic face of our dear State,” she noted.

Urging the people to be armed with their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), Mrs. Inyang enjoined the people to secure the cards from those who may want to buy them, adding that “your card is your only power to make decisions at the elections.”

“I am fulfilled today, because I regard the eyes as essential organ of the body and a window to life. The organ is very critical to the existence of man, so I am happy because we have been able to add value to life by this intervention and ensure the less privileged ones also take part in the decision making process of Nigeria at the polls,” she stressed.

  • Osinbajo: deliverance for Nigeria on Saturday

Osinbajo: deliverance for Nigeria on Saturday

The vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said Nigerians will be delivered from the grip of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday.

Osinbajo said the electorate must vote out President Goodluck Jonathan to regain their political and economic deliverance.  He was dismayed that the ruling party ran the country aground.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with APC leaders and members in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Osinbajo urged Nigerians to ignore the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, that voters should go home after casting their ballots.

The former Lagos State attorney general said Jonathan had failed Nigerians and did not deserve re-election.

According to him, a vote for the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, is a vote for deliverance from poverty, unemployment and corruption inflicted on them by the PDP administration.

He promised that a Buhari administration’s major focus would be job creation and fighting corruption, which has given Nigeria a global notoriety.

Osinbajo said: “President Jonathan is tired of governance because he is overwhelmed. His government has no focus. As of today, Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

“That is why they are afraid of a Buhari’s presidency because they are afraid of being jailed.

“They know there won’t be room for corrupt practices. We are promising you that wonders shall happen again in this country, if Buhari wins this election.

“President Jonathan has failed Nigerians in all aspects and deserves to be rejected by Nigerians. If you look at our programme, all we emphasise is how to provide jobs for our unemployed youths.

“Whether Jonathan likes it or not, the dream of Nigeria becoming a liberated nation shall come to pass on Saturday.”

APC’s Deputy National Chairman (South) Chief Segun Oni urged Nigerians to sack the PDP government because of its failure to stop corruption, which has impoverished citizens.

Another four years of           PDP, Oni said, would be an extension of corruption and bad governance.

Oni said: “Nigeria is the only country where over 400, 000 barrels of crude oil are being stolen daily. Nigeria is the only country where people are being kidnapped without resistance.

“Nigeria is the only country where a President said stealing is no corruption. All these would have to stop for the coming generations to be proud of us as leaders.

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi urged the Ekiti populace to use the election to be part of history as one of those who fought for Nigeria’s rebirth.

Fayemi added that those who are afraid of being jailed should not be allowed to perpetuate themselves in office and continue to loot the country.

At the event were former Governor Niyi Adebayo, former Governor of old Ondo State Bamidele Olumilua, former Deputy Governor Prof Modupe Adelabu, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, Opeyemi Bamidele, among others.

  • Police confirm death of two in APC, PDP fracas in Rivers

Two persons have died during a clash between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)  and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), in Okwuzi and Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area(ONELGA), the police said yesterday.

Police spokesman Ahmad Mohammad, in a statement in Port Harcourt, the state capital yesterday, said the fracas broke out between the two parties on  Monday, adding that the deaths occurred during a reprisal attack.

The PPRO said: “ONELGA is not boiling at the moment (yesterday afternoon), because the report I have right now is that the situation is calm; and by the record at my disposal, only two persons lost their lives, and there is no truth in the rumour that one of the victims is a younger brother to one commissioner in the state.

“The problem between two major political parties started since yesterday (Monday); it was a reprisal attack this morning (yesterday morning), which led to the death of two persons. The problem was political.

“Though there was an attempt to vandalise the secretariats of parties, but the swift intervention of the police saved the situation.”

Omoku is the home town of the state Chairman of the PDP, Felix Obuah.

The police also paraded 92 suspected cultists and four armed robbers with assorted weapons and N1.6 million cash.

Mohammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), assured the people of the state of their safety and urged them to come out and cast their votes for the candidates of their choice.

  • Rivers APC, PDP clash over alleged plot to steal card readers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State yesterday traded words over an alleged plot to break into the warehouse of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and steal card readers.

Rivers APC chair Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya alleged that the First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has perfected arrangements with the state’s leaders of the PDP to break into INEC’s warehouse and steal the card readers for general elections.

Ikanya, yesterday in Port Harcourt, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, stated that the arrangements were recently perfected.

But, the Rivers PDP Publicity Secretary, Samuel Nwanosike,  described the claim as a lie and frivolous, warning the APC leaders against dragging the First Family, especially the First Lady, into Rivers politics.

The President’s wife, an indigene of Okrika, the headquarters of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers state, had earlier stated that her husband would win majority of votes cast on March 28, but Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organisation, declared that the First Lady was daydreaming.

Nwanosike said: “APC leaders and members in Rivers State are so desperate to win at all costs. The allegation by Ikanya shows that the APC members have actually made up their minds to steal the card readers from INEC’s warehouse.

“PDP members do not have such plan, because we have campaigned round the 23 LGAs of Rivers State and the people are ready to massively vote for all the candidates of the PDP. The First Lady cannot be involved in such criminal act. Rivers APC members just want to drag the First Family into Rivers politics, with their ridiculous and frivolous allegation. APC and Amaechi have failed.”

Ikanya said: “We wish to alert the security agencies and the general public of the diabolical plan by the leadership of Rivers PDP to break into INEC warehouse in Port Harcourt to steal the smart card reading machines. According to our informant in PDP’s campaign organisation, who was privy to the sinister plot, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Rivers INEC, who has been compromised, assured the Rivers PDP chieftains that the gate of INEC would be thrown open around 2 a.m. on March 26, for what has been tagged ‘Operation Bat.’

Ikanya said: “If this fails, then option two will be used, which is to frustrate INEC officials from using the smart card readers in Rivers State or totally stop the conduct of the elections in the state, to save the party (PDP) and President Goodluck Jonathan from imminent defeat awaiting them during the 2015 polls in the state.”

  • Why I refused to join Mimiko’s camp-Adefarati’s son

Why I refused to join Mimiko’s camp-Adefarati’s son

Former Governor of Ondo State, late Chief Adebayo Adefarati’s son, Gboyega Tuesday explained why he refused to join Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s cabinet despite several invitations from him.

Gboyega said he refused to join Mimiko’s camp due to the fact that he knew him as a man who will never stand by his words since the days of his father’s administration.

He spoke with reporters shortly after organising a rally for All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo at Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South West local government area of the State.

The rally later became a mega rally as Osinbajo, who is in the state for a tour of some communities such as Oke-Agbe, Arigidi, Oka, Isua, Owo, Ore; Okitipupa also visited the residence of Adefarati in Akungba in company of leaders of the party.

In his convoy were, Dr. Paul Akintelure, Bola Ilori, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, Hon. Victor Olabintan, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) among others.

Osinbajo, who only spoke shortly in Isua-Akoko said “let us protect our votes, we should stand by our votes. We must ensure they count the votes in our presence before leaving the polling units.

Osinbajo’s convoy was received with jubilation and praises as market women, artisans and students warmly show their support for the APC with shout of “change” from them.

However, Adefarati’s son said the people eyes are now clear and no amount of sweet words or dollars being shared by Mimiko would garner votes for President Goodluck Jonathan.

He boasted that Akoko has been the bed rock of Progressives in the state, adding that it would be a landslide victory for Buhari in the state, particularly from Akoko.

The APC chieftain noted that despite his father is no more, Akungba-Akoko has always stood by him by voting for progressives.

“We have never lost Akungba-Akojo to Mimiko, even during the time of ACN, when the party was not strong in 2011, ACN still won the wards in Akungba. Despite our party lost the governorship election in 2012, we gave our party 1,800 votes to LP 400 in Akungba.

“So, our people are yarning for change, forget about the endorsement, it is just a name or associations that are endorsing not members. Associations can’t vote but members will votes. We have been meeting the people who are the members of these association and they are reactions were that they want change.

“Mimiko cannot deceive them anymore, they were deceived in 2007 when Mimiko claimed to be part of progressives in South West, in 2011 he deceived the masses with cosmetic projects, in 2012, he lied to them but this time around, our people cannot be deceived again. I knew him since the days of my father’s administration. When he invited me, pleading that I should join him, I said to my people Mimiko is not a man that can stand by his words.

Gboyega urged the electorate to collect dollars being shared by President but vote according to their conscience.
