  • Oyo PDP members join ACN

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo Federal Constituency have joined the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

The defectors were from the four local governments that make up the constituency – Afijio, Atiba, Oyo-East and Oyo-West.

They were led by the former Special Adviser to ex-Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Akinrogun Segun Taiwo.

The defectors were received into the ACN by Senator Ayo Adeseun (Oyo Central District) last Sunday at SNODAT Hotel in Sabo, Oyo Town.

Adeseun said the defectors made the right decision by joining ACN and assured them of a level playing ground.

He said the party remains committed to justice, fairness and good governance.

On the proposed alliance between former Governors Rashidi Ladoja and Alao-Akala, Adeseun urged the duo to shun acts inimical to sustainable democratic governance.

The senator was accompanied to the event by three former commissioners in the Alao-Akala administration.

They include former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General Aare Ladi Abdusalaam; former Commissioner for Finance Chief Bayo Bankole and former Commissioner for Environment and Poverty Alleviation Alhaji Jelili Agboola.

Taiwo, who is a veteran journalist, said: “We decided to quit the PDP because of the senseless crises, egoistic desires and undue favouritisms that remain predominant characteristics of the self-acclaimed largest party in Africa.”

Describing Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the successor of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he said: “Irrespective of whatever sentiments, Tinubu has become an institution and authority in Nigerian politics. His unrepentant and untiring efforts to ensure that the Yoruba are not relegated to the background in politics stand him out among the present crop of Nigerian leaders.

“Tinubu remains the only leader that is championing the emancipation of the masses, which the late Awolowo stood for.”

Taiwo hailed Southwest governors for their commitment to regional integration. He said Governor Abiola Ajimobi has transformed every part of the state.

Taiwo hailed the governor on the Ajumose free shuttle bus, the provision of tractors in each of the 33 local governments, road projects and the restoration of peace and security in the state.

  • PDP lifts Wamakko’s suspension

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party on Monday lifted the suspension order imposed on Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.

The PDP National Working Committee had on June 5 announced the suspension of Wamakko from the party for what members described as the governor’s repeated act of insubordination.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur announced the lifting of the suspension on Wamakko after a meeting of the NWC with some party governors in attendance.

Tukur also announced that the meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee would be convened on June 20.

He said the decision to hold the NEC meeting followed a return of normalcy to the party. The PDP held its last NEC meeting in July 2012.

Addressing reporters shortly after the meeting, Tukur expressed the optimism that the issues that gave rise to Wamakko’s suspension would not resurface again.

The chairman stated: “Now this issue would never come again. It is a great party, we believe in our nation. We need a party as a platform to stand on, but based on unity, discipline and commitment.

“We are also going to have NEC, also we have the support to rescind the suspension, which is a very important thing. We rescind the suspension of the governor of Sokoto State.

“With that, we are ready for further business because NEC is the requirement of our own party, always to get in touch with the people to tell them of our programme; like the state of the nation and also state of the party.”

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, on behalf of the Forum, thanked party’s the leadership for having a rethink on the governor’s suspension.

Akpabio, who attended the meeting stated: “We want to thank the national chairman and members of the working committee for granting us the privilege of this meeting today.

“We came as a select committee of the Peoples Democratic Party to discuss the state of affairs of our great party, particularly the relationship between the working committee and the PDP governors.”

Governor gives Jonathan peace term: Tukur must go

Despite peace moves, the storm in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems to be getting stronger.

But suspended Governor Aliyu Wamakko has an answer to the problem: President Goodluck Jonathan should direct the removal of National Chairman Bamanga Tukur for alleged incompetence.

Besides, he should sack Presidential Political Adviser Ahmed Gulak for “arrogance” and clear incompetence”.

Wamakko did not spare Ijaw leader Edwin Clark who he described as “a liability”. Ex-militant leader Mujadeen Asari Dokubo, he said, should be arrested.

The governor said he and like-minded governors as well as other democrats are not fighting the party but the recurring injustice.

“Our pride should be to defend the course of justice and fair play for the desired unity, strength and progress,” he said Wednesday night in Sokoto.

This is the first time the governor has spoken about his suspension last week by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He said their collective belief was to ensure the rule of law and unity of Nigeria.

“We are law abiding democrats who respect the rule of law and rights of others in the course of ensuring the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians are met,” he said.

Wamakko was addressing his supporters shortly on arrival from a two-week trip to the Netherlands where he attended an economic summit with some of his counterparts.

He said that ‘’ as leaders, there is no retreat, no surrender on our pursuit towards stabilising the confidence of the citizenry for a prosperous nation.”

The governor is alleged to be among the eight “rebellious” party members, who are believed to be against the President’s ambition.

Wamakko reeled out his sacrifices for the party’s victory in various political circumstances, noting that between 2007 and now he had lifted the party to great level.

“I returned the caliphate into mainstream politics, brokered peace between former Governor Bukola Saraki and his late father, gave the party all elective seats at the 2011 general elections without conceding to the CPC tsunami,” the governor said.

Wamakko challenged those he described as political sycophants who sit back in Abuja to determine what happens in Sokoto, urging the President as party leader to detest their antics in the interest of progress.

“None of them has been able to return a single seat to the party since I joined PDP in 2007. Some of them were Ministers and ambassadors yet did not reciprocate their worth for the party up to date,” he said.

He said leaders and Nigerians must come together to save the nation’s nascent democracy.

Wamakko said: “I was unhappy with a development where Gowon and former President Shagari were given lesser prominence than Clark”. This, he cautioned, should not be allowed to happen again because “it is wrong and painful”.

“Asari-Dokubo should be arrested and prosecuted,’’ the governor said.

He described Tukur as “a political boot licker” who cannot bring fame to the party, stressing: “We don’t have confidence in him anymore. A chairman cannot be running the party as his private entity without due consideration for the party’s status.”

Reaffirming that he remains in the PDP, Wamakko maintained that Tukur, who, he said have lost the confidence of his people in Adamawa, should not be allowed to stagnate the party.

He faulted “attempts” to ease Speaker Aminu Tambuwal out of his seat, questioning why he should be tagged a political enemy.

The governor said: “Speaker Tambuwal has been used severally to achieve and sustain many positive steps for the party through vibrant means.

“Goodluck , Bankole and many others were beneficiaries of Tambawal’s efforts.

Tambuwal, who spoke of his resilience in the defence of Nigeria’s unity and for the good of democracy, said “purposeful political fraternity is key to peaceful and sustainable democracy.”

The Speaker, who described Wamakko’s suspension as “purported”, pointed out that it was an unconstitutional and self-serving decision taken through “undemocratic means”. Those who said you have been suspended are saying their minds but you remain our leader with determination.

“You have our total support and be on course for what is right and good,” he told Wamakko.

Tambuwal said: “We should be seen to imbibe and respect the rights and freedom to exercise our liberty of choice.

‘’ We have to uphold the political and democratic legacies of our forefathers in the Caliphate who displayed their God-given wisdom for an established system even before the coming of the colonialists.

‘’Sokoto has produced democrats of repute, respecters of the rule of law, detribalised leaders in the late Sir Ahmadu Bello and former President Shagari who have managed Nigeria transparently, with absolute fairness in the spirit and principles of rule of law; which guarantees freedom and liberty of choice.”

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi is currently on suspension and some members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including National Secretary Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

PDP: Sack Tukur for incompetence – Wamakko

… Says, ‘We’re not fighting the party, but injustice’

Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state Wednesday night urged President Goodluck Jonathan to order the removal of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party for incompetence.

The governor also came down hard on the former federal commissioner of information, Chief Edwin Clark, Ahmed Gulak, and the ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo.

He said Nigerian leaders and the citizens must come together to safe the nation’s democracy.

Wamakko explained that he and other like- minded governors as well other democrats are not fighting the party but the recurring injustices in order to have “a united Nigeria.”

The governor spoke in Sokoto while addressing his supporters shortly on arrival from a two- week trip to the Netherlands where he attended an economic summit with his counterparts from other states.

He said, ‘’ As leaders, there is no retreat no surrender on our pursuit towards stabilising the confidence of the citizenry for a prosperous nation. ’

” Our pride should be to defend the course of justice and fair play for the desired unity, strength and progress.”

The governor, who spoke publicly for the first time since his suspension by the party’s National Working Committee, said their collective believe was to ensure the rule of law and unity of Nigeria as a nation.

‘’ We are law abiding democrats who respect the rule of law and rights of others in the course of ensuring that the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians are me, “ he told the gathering.

On Tukur, Wamakko said the PDP national chairman cannot bring fame to the party.

“He (Tukur) is a political boot licker who cannot bring fame to the party. We don’t have confidence in him anymore. A chairman cannot be running the party as his private entity without due consideration for the party’s status,” he said.

While reaffirming that he remains in the PDP, Wamakko maintained that Tukur who have lost the confidence of his people in Adamawa should not be allowed to stagnate the party whose mission and visions were in the best interest of a vibrant and more objective politicking.

He described Clark as a colossal liability than asset to the government, saying ‘’ I was unhappy with a development where Gowon and former president Shehu Shagari were given lesser prominence to Clark. This action should not be allowed to happen again in this country because it is wrong and painful.”

He also called for the arrest and prosecution of Asari Dokubo.

PDP, Jonathan have failed Nigerians, says Tinubu

ACN leader lashes govt on economy, security

APC files registration request at INEC

President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration is confused about how to tackle Nigeria’s challenges, especially poverty and insecurity, a leader of the newly-formed All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said.

He said the Federal Government promised peace and security, but under its “unwatchful eye” insecurity has grown and Boko Haram “has turned large tracts of northern Nigeria into no man’s land”.

But, a bright future, he said, is on the horizon as the APC, which he called “the government in-waiting”, would rescue Nigeria from its confused state.

“As leaders of the new party and government in-waiting, we intend to pursue dynamic, time-tested and bold policies that will liberate our people by making sure our wealth works for us,” Tinubu said.

Nigerians, said Tinubu, have become increasingly divided as a people because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government continues to take faulty steps in addressing poverty and injustice.

“They have ignored the cause and gone after the symptoms,” the former Lagos State Governor told a packed audience inside the Grand Committee Ballroom, Westminster Hall, House of Parliament, London on Monday. He identified failed policies on power, employment, economy and security as evidence of bad leadership.

Tinubu, the keynote speaker at the British African Diaspora Conference, spoke on “Leadership, national development and the people”.

He urged the Federal Government to apply a consistent policy of targeted law enforcement operations along with an active programme of economic development, negotiations and potential amnesty for penitent Boko Haram members.

He said rather than take this step, the nation has been treated to series of government inaction and indiscriminate use of force, which culminated in the declaration of a state of emergency in three states.

“The Jonathan government set up a special Committee on Boko Haram and Security matters, but sadly before they could perform, he declared State of Emergency in three Northern states: Yobe, Borno and Adamawa.

“This is symptomatic of a confused leadership. If there is security in this jumbled policy, neither I nor the majority of Nigerians can find it!”

To the fomer Lagos governor, if Nigeria is to mature as a democracy, its electoral system must be improved. He decried the fact that those who control the system manipulate elections with such impunity that they now see misconduct without sanction as a normal way of life.

Said he: “Look at the recent controversy surrounding election of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) chairman… A group comprising all the nations’ governors could not even conduct a simple 35-person election without a disputed outcome.

“With this recent experience, I fear the length those in power would go and the means they would employ to manipulate results when the battleground is the entire nation and the stakes are the general elections in 2015.

“The NGF debacle symbolises a disdain for democracy and the popular will. If we are to save Nigeria, we must rescue the electoral process from its abusers,” Tinubu said.

In his view, a great philosophical gulf separates the government from the progressives. “This current Nigerian government is a retrogressive one. Much of what they claim as growth is but the harsh redistribution of wealth from the bottom to the top. The bottom gets squeezed while the top expands. They are serving us the salad of corruption.

“They consume our today and squander the nation’s tomorrow. For 14 years, the PDP-led government cannot turn anything around. A new leadership is required to put a stop to this.”

Tinubu criticised Nigeria’s economic policies, saying the economy is being reconstructed “as an oasis for a small few and a stark desert for the many” while the government pretends to endorse the same budget-cutting austerity policies as much of Europe.

“We are not Europe; we are a Third World economy. That these policies have failed in European nations with higher standards of living than Nigeria gives our leaders no concern.”

Tinubu said the people live in dire straits, yet the government would rather waste the money than spend it on public benefit because they do not believe the people deserve it.

He said the progressives would bring pragmatic solution to the country’s woes because in their approach to the political economy, they do not rely on textbook answers as they do not “live in textbooks.

He said: “We live in the real world and thus seek answers from real world experiences. Here is a real world fact: No large nation has ever attained sustained growth without government running budget deficits to build the required infrastructure and without other government policies promoting development of the key industries that would become the spine of national development.

“Here is another such fact: No populous nation ever attains prosperity solely by extracting its raw material to exchange them for the finished goods of other large nations. We must industrialise and diversify our economy

“It is for this reason – to save the nation from the stranglehold of permanent poverty and poor governance – that the members of the progressive opposition political parties have decided to put aside personal ambition (including my own ambition) to form a new party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). We do this because Nigeria has entered a critical state of economic depression.”

According to Tinubu, because of the unfair nature of the electoral processes and the gross imbalance of its political economy, the people have been props in a drama for which they should have been the main characters. “We must change this,” he said.

He said the progressives must move Nigeria away from a place where the whims and narrow wishes of self-centered reactionary elite dictate the fate of over 150 million people.

“On our side, we will take our chances with a free and fair election, for we shall offer the people an innovative programme consisting of a national industrial policy that includes radical infrastructural development and employment targets,” he said.

The former Lagos governor spoke of “the Glorious Nigerian Revolution”, which he said has nothing to do with force of arms.

His words: “The Revolution of which I speak has two major parts. First, is the peaceful conversion of our quasi-democracy into a full-fledged one. Second, is the implementation of policies turning the political economy away from its retrogressive, elitist bearings.

“We seek policies pointing in a progressive direction affording the average person a chance at a dignified life. This will be through the provision of gainful employment, quality education and essential social services for those who need the helping hand of government to survive.

“I see no shame in believing progressive government can improve the political economy and the lives of the people.”

Groups and personalities at the event included representatives of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Business Council for Africa , the British African Business Alliance, Ministers from Nigeria High Commission UK7; an association of Nigerians in top British government employment – British Nigerians in Government (BIG) and Chairman, the African Professionals in the Diaspora (TAPID), Tope Olodo.

PDP crisis: Obio/Akpor Council case suffers a setback

The suit by the Caretaker Committee (CTC) chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area(LGA), of Rivers state, Chikordi Dike, over the blockade of the council premises yesterday suffered a setback.

The matter fixed for motion on notice could not go on following the withdrawal of Justice Nganjiwa from the case.

The judge disqualified himself after being accused of ‘already forming a decision’ against them by the defendants.

The CTC chair had sued the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Commissioner of Police (CP) and others over the blockade at the council premises.

The Judge expressed his decision to return the case file to the administrative judge for re-assignment.

In an application for a re-assignment by the defence Lawyer Donald C. DENwigwe, (SAN) supported by a motion, the defence accused the judge of being bias in his earlier ruling on the joiner motion by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the case.

DENwigwe said the defendants had declared the Judge Functtuf Officio and as a result he was no longer relevant in their case.

DENwigwe said “we earlier wrote a letter to the Judge asking him to disqualify himself from the case.

“The reason being that he has already drawn a conclusion against us (the defence), when he threw out the motion filed by the People Democratic Party (PDP), to join in the case he used our grounds of defence against us.

“Having already drawn conclusion against our defence, there is nothing again left for him to hear about us, hence he has become functuf officio, and can no longer hear our matter unbiased.

Asked if they would recall the already dismissed case (PDP joiner motion), before the new Judge he said no.”

At the sitting yesterday, the Judge after taking appearances from the parties wrote and declared “this matter was slated for hearing today (yesterday), but I’m aware that the defendants have filed petitions asking that the matter be re-assigned to another court; in view of this, there is no need for me to continue with the matter.

“I therefore withdraw from further hearing of the case. I will return the case file to the Administrative Judge for re-assignment.”

The House of Assembly on April 22 suspended Chairman of the council Timothy Nsirim, his deputy and 17 councillors on alleged financial recklessness.

They were replaced the following day by a Seven-man CTC led by Dike. The development created tension in the area, resulting in the takeover of the premises by the Police, on May 3.

The CTC group approached the court for intervention, asking that the Police be ordered out of the premises to allow them and workers of the council access to their offices, to enable them pay workers’ salaries for the April and May.

Dike told the court that the Police presence at the council gate was illegal and should be ordered out.

The Court urged the applicant to put the AGF and the Police on notice. At the next sitting the defendants appeared in court defending their actions as right, insisting that they were securing government property.

Represented by DENwigwe, AGF, Police challenged the jurisdiction of a Federal High court in a state matter.

The ousted chairman Nsirim filed an application for joiner, saying that his was relevant to the suit, being the rightful elected chairman of the council. His application was dismissed by the court.

The court later ordered the police to vacate their barricade at the premises to allow movement of genuine persons including workers and CTC members access to carry out their legitimate functions at the premises.

Shortly after police pulled out their men from the premises, tension returned leading to the burning of the council generation house, by suspected youths loyal to Nsirim. The Police repossessed the premises and have been there as at press time.

Cases related on the Obio/Akpor issues are scattered in both the Federal and State High courts.

The matter to be re-assigned was however not adjourned to any date.

  • Sponsors of terror are mostly PDP members, alleges ACN

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has rejected any attempt by the presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to portray the opposition party or its leadership as terrorism sponsors.

It alleged that sponsors of terror in Nigeria are either within the PDP, or somehow associated with it.

In a statement in Abuja yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the presidency and the PDP should tell Nigerians the names of those mentioned as sponsors of Boko Haram in a well-researched article in the journal of the New York-based World Policy Institute, headlined: ‘Anatomy of African Terrorism: Boko Haram, Nigeria’s homegrown terror network.’

ACN said a perusal of the article shows a former Nigerian Ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe and a serving governor and members of the PDP as alleged terror sponsors.

“Contrary to the blatant falsehood peddled by the presidency and the PDP, not one member of the ACN was mentioned in that document, which is available to those interested in seeking the truth than calling the dog a bad name just to hang it.

“We abhor terrorism in all ramifications, and have never and will never support terrorism under any guise. But our stand on Boko Haram is also well known to fair-minded people whose thinking has not been clouded by

political considerations: Terror has festered in our country largely because of widespread poverty/economic deprivation, massive unemployment, injustice and alienation of a large section of the society, all products of years of bad governance.

“For example, Nigeria is home to the largest number of out-of-school children in the world, according to UNESCO. What this means is that we are creating a large pool of possible recruits for terror.

“While these problems date back to a long time, the rapacious PDP, which has ruled at the centre since our country’s return to democratic rule in 1999, and the painfully incompetent government of President Goodluck Jonathan have not made things better. It is therefore clear that as these evil twins PDP/Presidency) point one accusing finger at the ACN, four others are pointing at them,” ACN said.

The party expressed satisfaction at the speed with which the presidency and the PDP, in separate statements, repudiated the part of the Boko Haram/Ansaru proscription order that is deemed to be at variance with the constitution.

The assurances given by the two are what the ACN had demanded in its earlier statement that called attention to the fact that the vague and open-ended order could stifle the freedom of the press and tamper with the fundamental human rights of the ordinary Nigerian.

“After much rambling, the presidency’s statement on the issue said: ‘For the avoidance of doubt, the order is not meant to stop journalists from carrying out their duties or function of news gathering or reporting as they differ from terrorist activities. Rather, the order is out to criminalise acts of incitement by anyone, group of persons or institutions to commit terrorist acts through dissemination of terrorist information’.

“When it is stripped of its now boring clichés, the statement from the PDP said: ‘For the avoidance of doubt, no section of the order stifled the press; violated or seeks to violate any provision of the constitution. Instead, the order reinforced the provisions of the constitution guaranteeing the security and welfare of all Nigerians’.

“This clarification is exactly what we demanded in our statement, and we can now happily say our work is done. As usual, we choose to ignore the use of uncouth language, needless vituperation and accusations that are not empirically-grounded – which are now the hallmarks of a sinking presidency/ruling party,” ACN said.

  • Another claimant to Rivers PDP chair emerges

Another claimant to Rivers PDP chair emerges

There is a twist to the River State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis following the emergence of another claimant to the chairmanship seat.

An Abuja Court order ousted Chairman of the party Chief Godspower Ake, following which the party’s national leadership swore in Chief Felix Obuah. Ake has rejected the judgment and he is in court pressing for the seat.

But yesterday, Prince Merinoe Okiriaja claimed he should be the real chairman of the party.

Okiriaja is challenging Obuah’s chairmanship. Yesterday, he prayed the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to declare him the state party chairman in a case which he said he instituted before the April 15 verdict of the Abuja High Court, which removed the Ake-led executive.

Justice Suleiman Aliyu ruled that counsel to Obuah, Mr Emma Ukala, whom the plaintiff wanted to include in the case had just received the motion for joiner in the court room on behalf of his client and needed time to go through it for appropriate response. Ukala was represented by Mr Dike Udenna

Justice Aliyu adjourned hearing till July 1.

Speaking after the court session, Okiriaja explained that he is the rightful chairman of the party adding that neither Obuah nor Ake obtained the nomination form from the party.

He hailed the Abuja High Court ruling which removed the Ake-led team and prayed that such justice be demonstrated in his own case.

Okiriaja said the claim allegedly made by Ake that he purchased his nomination form on March 13, 2012 while the state congress took place on March 17, 2012 is a violation of a section of the party’s constitution which stipulates that anybody vying for any position should have concluded all documentations at least two weeks to the time.

He also boasted that he has the magic wand to unite the party members because according to him, he has the soul of the party in his hands.

Okirija said being the youngest founding member of the party, he would hold the party together because he has acquired a lot of experience while working with the late Senator Francis Ellah, the late Chief A.K.Dikibo and Mr. Dele Cole. He said he was the pioneer administrative secretary of the party in the Southsouth zone.

Presidency, PDP flay ACN’s stance on proscription of Boko Haram

Opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) came under fire yesterday from the Presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its criticism of the proscription of Boko Haram and Ansaru by the government.

The ACN on Sunday said although desirable, the proscription of the bodies violated the Constitution.

AC N spokesman Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the Proscription order is capable of stfling the press in addition to tampering with the fundamental rights of Nigerians.

But The Presidency in a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said the position of the ACN lacks sound judgement.

The statement said: “What its present action suggests is that were the ACN in power it would have done nothing to stop the needless destruction of lives and property by the terrorist group proscribed by the Federal Government.

“Are we to believe then that the ACN is unhappy with the present peace and calm enjoyed by residents of the states under emergency rule? Are we to conclude that Alhaji Lai Mohammed and his party are uncomfortable with the fact that following the intervention of our military, that children have returned to school and that markets have reopened for business?

“This latest uproar by the ACN about the order affecting or circumscribing press freedom is a blatant lie. It is not supported by reason, logic or law.

“By stating that, “the offensive section of the Order is Section 5 (1), which prescribes a term of imprisonment of not less than 20 years ‘’for any person who knowingly, in any manner, directly or indirectly, solicits or renders support for the commission of an act of terrorism or to a terrorist group’’, is the ACN suggesting that terror should continue unabated and unchecked?

“Is the party suggesting that government folds its arms and let its citizens be murdered in cold blood and properties destroyed at will?

PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh described the ACN’s accusation as “despicable and a clear indication of how far the opposition party can go to distort facts to support violence and cause disaffection among Nigerians”

He said: “This deliberate distortion of facts clearly betrays ACN’s support for such groups as well as the heinous attempt to whittle efforts by the Federal Government and well-meaning Nigerians to end insurgency in the country.

“For the avoidance of doubt, no section of the Order stifled the press; violated or seeks to violate any provision of the constitution. Instead the Order reinforced the provisions of the constitution guaranteeing the security and welfare of all Nigerians.
