‘PDP’s Ighodalo going nowhere, ignore Ologunagba’s boasts’

The Director of Media of the Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for the governorship election, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has declared that the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Asue Ighodalo, is going nowhere in the governorship race.

Afegbua, a former Edo Commissioner for Information, yesterday urged Nigerians and other lovers of democracy worldwide to ignore the ranting of PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, who boasted at a news conference in Abuja on Monday that the party would win the governorship election by a wide margin, with Ighodalo coasting to a sweeping victory, with no less than 65 per cent of the total votes expected at the poll.

He said: “Ologunagba is suffering from jetlag, having just returned from Canada, abandoning their campaign, because he knows Ighodalo goes nowhere. This governorship election is a foregone conclusion for APC.

“Ologunagba knows that APC is in poll position among all the major contenders.

“Ighodalo has been part of the Governor Godwin Obaseki’s sad story of under-development and crippling of Edo’s destiny.

“On September 21 this year, there will be a referendum against Obaseki of PDP, because Edo residents, in their millions, have resolved to punish the governor with their votes against his candidate. Let Ologunagba be daydreaming.

“A serious-minded party man cannot be talking of winning elections, when his party is factionalised in the state and at the national level, thereby struggling to put itself together, but Ologunagba is the one talking about winning the election. Isn’t that ridiculous? Talk is cheap for PDP, but APC has a date with destiny, come September 21, 2024.”

Uhunmwonde Local Government of Edo State yesterday stood still for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 21 election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, as the ward-to-ward campaign train of the party moved to the area.

The team was received by an enthusiastic crowd in a carnival-like manner at Ehor Primary Health Centre playground by people from Ehor ward 1, Uhi ward 2,  Igieduma ward 3 and Irhue ward 4.

A community leader in the area, Charles Egbe, addressing the jubilant crowd, said Uhunmwonde was already locked down for Asue-Ogie and PDP, and urged the people to come out en masse to support the ‘umbrella’, the symbol of the PDP.

A member of the factional Legacy Group of the PDP in the state, Dickson Imasogie, told the people that Ighodalo was a trusted candidate.

He said he was a member of the aggrieved Legacy PDP, but seeing Ighodalo and his capacity, he had to dump the Legacy Group to support PDP’s standard-bearer, knowing he would do better for the state and party, and the fact that he was the best among all governorship candidates.

He appealed to the residents to join hands with him to ensure victory for Ighodalo.

The Director-General of Edo PDP Campaign Council, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, said PDP was the only party that loved the residents,  urging the people to remain steadfast and vote PDP for good governance.

Ighodalo thanked people for finding time to grace the campaign in such an unprecedented manner.

The PDP governorship candidate promised to revamp and increase agricultural production capacity of the people in the local governments, establish a fruit factory and complete ongoing projects in the area.

He promised to provide solution to the problem of water supply in the area.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to prioritise security, education, health and economy, if elected.

He said this during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo Council, yesterday in Benin.
