A former member of the House of Representatives and founder of Aquila Group, Hon Shina Peller, has described Nigerians as resilient, focused, innovative, problem-solvers who adapt to situations easily, noting that Turkish people also share similar attributes.

Peller, who is the President of the GOTNI CEOs Leadership Council, stated this while delivering his speech as the host of the Turkiye-Nigeria Business and Investment Summit held recently in Lagos.

The summit, which was the second edition, witnessed the presence of investors from Turkey and Nigeria who have gathered to explore and deepen collaboration and partnership opportunities between both nations to drive economic growth and prosperity.

In October 2023, Peller, whilst delivering his keynote address at the first edition of the summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, described Nigeria as a gateway to Africa’s world of creativity and emphasized the need for Turkish entrepreneurs and investors to engage with the country’s growing market for remarkable Return on Investment (RoI).

Highlighting some of the benefits Turkish investors stand to gain from doing business with Nigeria, Honourable Peller noted that Nigeria, with over 250 diverse ethnic groups and local languages, represents the economic and cultural potential that exist across the African continent.

He stressed that Nigeria’s youthful population and growing middle class present a substantial consumer base for businesses to thrive. He added that the country boasts of abundant natural resources, from oil and gas to agriculture, offering immense investment potential. His romance with the Turkish investors at the first edition of the summit prompted the second edition held in Lagos.

At the Lagos summit, Peller expressed concerns that Nigeria is being perceived wrongly in a negative way by many who have little or even no knowledge about the country.

He stressed the need for all Nigerians to consider re-writing the country’s story in a positive way it should be. He added that every Nigerian must see the task as a priority and his/her civic responsibility.

Peller argued that in contrary to what is being perceived wrongly by some people from other parts of the world, Nigeria is a country of boundless potential and home to some of the world’s most creative minds, assuring the Turkish investors that they will never regret doing business with Nigeria.

Peller emphasised the significance of fostering strong bilateral relationships between countries. He highlighted the fact that collaboration and partnerships are key drivers of economic growth and prosperity.

The member of the event board for the forthcoming Global Entrepreneurship Festival holding in Akure November 2024, stressed the need for both Turkey and Nigeria to work together to explore new opportunities and maximize mutual benefits.

One of the key points raised by Honourable Shina Peller was the importance of leveraging opportunities for growth in key sectors such as technology, agriculture, and infrastructure. He emphasized the need for strategic investments and partnerships that would drive innovation and sustainable development for both countries.

Also speaking in his capacity as the Ayedero of Yorubaland, Peller spoke about the importance of encouraging cross-cultural exchange between Turkey and Nigeria. He emphasized the need for cultural understanding and appreciation, which are essential for building strong and lasting relationships.

He stressed that by fostering cultural exchange programs and initiatives, both countries can enhance mutual understanding and create a harmonious environment for collaboration.

“The dissemination of this video appears to be driven by motives that do not align with the truth. Chief Adelabu himself knows that the allegation is unfounded because I greeted him.

“Moreover, I wish to emphasise the significance of greetings in my faith as a Muslim. Greeting others is considered an act of charity in Islam, and I make it a priority to extend greetings to individuals at every opportunity. This act of goodwill reflects my values and principles in interactions with others. It is never in my character to snub people regardless of the situation or my relationship with the person.

I promptly congratulated him on his appointment to the esteemed position of Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, demonstrating our cordial association. Chief Adelabu is my brother and vice versa. People shouldn’t bring up enmity where there is none.

“Truly, our political landscape suffers from lack of good leadership, and there is no leadership where there’s no vision. Governor Makinde is a visionary leader, youth oriented, and result driven person whose actions are bound to impact positively on not only the present generation but also the coming generations. This is why I am proud to identify and associate with him as my leader irrespective of my political affiliation, particularly in the last general election.

“Indeed, Governor Makinde’s leadership attributes are exemplary and noteworthy. One of the things I cherish about him is his respect for the principles of equity, fairness, and justice as evident in the ways he administers the state.

“For example, the general belief has always been that Oke Ogun region is marginalized. However, since Governor Makinde came on board, he has rekindled the hope of the people of the region by paying attention to them.

“Oke Ogun people have been clamouring for a university for about 70 years; Governor Makinde saw to this by giving the region LAUTECH campus in Iseyin.

“Also, the governor provided the region with good, linkable roads to aid their major business which is agriculture. The People’s governor fixed Moniya-Iseyin road; saw to the completion of the dualisation of Saki road; reconstructed Oyo-Iseyin road which connects Oyo and Oke-Ogun Zone; opened up Ogbomoso to Oke-Ogun to  through the construction of Ogbomoso-Iseyin road and other developmental projects.

“Mentioned above are just a few of the numerous dividends of democracy that the people are experiencing, not only in Oke Ogun, but Oyo State at large; the transformational activities of Governor Makinde cut across every nook and cranny of the state.

“Also, the Ido-Eruwa Road reconstruction project executed by Governor Makinde is applaudable as it links the Ibadan and Ibarapa Zones of Oyo State. Also, the rehabilitation of Eruwa-Lanlate-Maya Road located in Ibarapa East LGA is worth noting.

“The Governor created safe, adequate and efficient transport system that can sustain the social and economic development of the state, and many other numerous laudable projects that I cannot even remember.

“Dear visionary leader, as you turn 56 today, the people of Oke Ogun and Oyo state at large celebrate you, and we pray that God strengthens you in all ways as you continue to pilot the affairs of our dear state. May you witness many more years on earth in God’s name. Amen.

“In the same vein, I’m using this avenue to wish all, particularly, Christians, a blissful Christmas celebration. We shall witness many more of it in God’s name. Amen.”
