Eid-el Maulud: PDP calls on FG to address economic challenges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the federal government to reassess its policies in light of the severe economic hardship many Nigerians are facing.

In a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba on Sunday, September 15, to commemorate Eid-el Maulud, the PDP congratulated the Muslim community on the celebration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed (SAW), while urging citizens to remain resilient in the face of rising insecurity and economic challenges.

The party also stressed the need for Nigerians to draw strength from their faith and each other in these difficult times.

“This is a moment for us as a nation to reinforce our hope in the Almighty Allah for guidance and direction,” the PDP stated.

The party further expressed concern over the increasing number of Nigerians who may be unable to celebrate the occasion with their families due to the biting effects of current government policies.

“The Eid-el Maulud is an opportunity for leaders at all levels to reflect on their responsibilities and submit to the Will of Almighty Allah, as exemplified in the life of the Holy Prophet,” the statement read while emphasizing that citizens deserve better and urged political leaders to make decisions that alleviate, rather than exacerbate, the economic burdens on Nigerians.

The PDP took issue with what it termed “anti-people policies” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, highlighting the rising cost of petroleum products, increased taxes, and tariffs as key contributors to the nation’s current plight.

“For the umpteenth time, we demand that the Federal Government review all life-discounting and suffocating policies that have put millions of Nigerians in misery,” the statement urged.

In addition, the party called for an end to excessive spending and corruption within government, advising that resources be redirected towards initiatives that have a direct impact on the well-being of Nigerians.

“The government must prioritize projects and programs that truly address the needs of the people,” the PDP added.

Despite its criticism, the party also expressed hope for the future, encouraging Nigerians to remain calm and united.

“We urge all citizens to use this occasion to show love to one another and continue to pray for divine intervention in our nation’s affairs,” the party added.

  • Why PDP members must unite to win Edo, Ondo elections, by Ajayi

Why PDP members must unite to win Edo, Ondo elections, by Ajayi

The governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has called for unity among all party stakeholders to secure victories in the upcoming governorship elections in Edo State this weekend and in Ondo State on November 16.

Ajayi highlighted that the large turnout and sense of unity at the PDP grand rally in Benin City reflect the party’s commitment to tackling the challenges ahead and restoring the country’s glory.

Speaking to PDP women leaders from across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, the former Ondo deputy governor emphasised the party’s track record as a capable manager of people, the economy, and the nation.

He said: “The mood in the country today is that the PDP is the only messiah the people can look up to.

“With the show of camaraderie displayed in Benin City, it is obvious that the party is ready to take up the challenge to rescue Nigeria from her current handlers. I can’t remember the last time the party supported a cause like this Edo election with its full strength as we have seen.”

He said the United Nations affirmation of gender equality would be adhered to from February 24 if he is sworn in as governor.

The women begged PDP leaders to provide enough security and other wherewithal that would further embolden them on the day of the election.

“We are ready this time around to work for the party, you have shown us with this meeting that we are recognised in the party and that when the PDP government comes on board, we will have our pride of place in government appointments, so we are ready to go out there and work for the party,” the Senatorial woman leader from Ondo North emphasis.”

  • Crush, bury PDP completely in Ekiti, Fayemi charges APC members

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Friday called on members of the Presidential Campaign Organisation, Ekiti State Chapter and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the dominance of the party ahead of 2022 gubernatorial election.

Dr. Fayemi said the next task is to ensure that the influence of the rival People Democratic Party (PDP) was reduced to the barest minimum.
The governor further disclosed  that unity of purpose and togetherness that earned the party victory during the just concluded general elections are sustained ahead of the 2022 governorship election in the state.

A successful outing for the APC in the 2022 governorship election in the state, according to Governor Fayemi would confirm the party’s dominance in Ekiti politics as well as ensure continuation of good governance that would put the state firmly on the path of  irreversible development.

He stated this in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, during a meeting to appreciate members of the Ekiti State Council of the PMB/PYO Presidential Campaign Organisation and leaders of the party, for the success of the Presidental, National and State Assemblies elections in the state.

Fayemi who lauded the members of the campaign organisation for their demonstrated dedication and commitment to the success of the party, said the credit for the peaceful conduct of the election and timely collation recorded in Ekiti State should go to them.

He said the unity of purpose demonstrated by both the council and the party leaders during the elections made the party record enviable result.

The Governor who also conveyed the appreciation of President Buhari to the members, later presented letters of appreciation to the council members.

He said: “When we inaugurated the Council, I was very clear the job the council would do in conjunction with the party leadership would produce a report that everyone would be proud of and that is exactly what the
council has done as the results have shown.

“I remember I was with Mr President a couple of days ago, to discuss some challenges facing our state, and as soon as he came into the meeting, the very first thing he said was Mr 100 percent.

“That credit really goes to the work that we all did and I think it leads to what happen when we have unity of purpose. We all started on this journey from different points, but ultimately, we came together, we decided
that we need to give the election all the attention it deserves and everybody pulled in their weight to ensure that we succeeded.

“However, the outcome of the election tell us some things, that we cannot be complacent about this issue, we still have to work to completely crush the PDP in all our local government areas and state to a point where they are a minute fold rather that a sizeable number that can threaten the consolidation of our gains in the course of next couples of election.

“The only way to guarantee this effort you have all put in this election is to ensure that the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti goes to APC.

That’s the message we have to take from this exercise, we would put in every effort to ensure that this happen.”

Fayemi explained that after the heat of election, there is now need to focus more on governance adding that he would soon appoint more people into positions for ease of governance as well as make them more useful for the
    services of the state.

“By now, we would have a respite to now focus on governance which is really the reason why our people have put us in charge of the state. Yes, we started that process and we have to invigorate it now, we have to energize by putting more people in positions so that they can be of service to our party and the state.

“As much as our resources can carry us, we must put our people first in the ‘Project Ekiti’ via empowerment programme or appointments. Not everybody can get appointments, but everybody can have access to feeling that they are also major contributors to the party’s success.”

Speaking earlier, the Director General of the Campaign Organization, Oluomo Segun Osikolu appreciated Governor Fayemi for giving them opportunity to
    serve in that capacity.

Osinkolu said party’s successful outing at the polls was as a result of the commitment and hardwork of members of the council as well as party leadership.

He, however, commended members of the council for their cooperation in the prosecuting the entrusted project without any flaws.
  • PDP women protest at Niger INEC collation centre

As the last result to be collated is being awaited from Kontagora local government area, women belonging to the People Democratic Party (PDP) stormed the INEC headquarters in Minna, Niger state where the collation of the results for the governorship election was taking place to protest over what they termed ‘a scam election.”

They called on the PDP chairman in Niger state, Tanko Beji not to sign the results sheet, declaring the result being collated does not reflect the election done.

The women were chanted ‘Ole’, ‘Thief’, and ‘declare the right result’ among others.

The spokesperson for the women, Honorable Talatu Sauka, said they were protesting because they do not agree with the result being collated saying the result being collated is a lie.

“We are here because we are not agreeing to the result. It is never possible for an election held in 25 Luca government areas and not even one was given to PDP.

“Nasko has made all the efforts and he has a lot of people that loves him.

“This result is rubbish and as far as we are concerned, we are protesting because it is never possible to have a competition in politics and in 25 local government areas and not even one for PDP.

“It is a lie and we are saying the election is a scam. We are here protesting and raising out voices as women that we do not agree with the declaration of results,” she stated.

When it was pointed out the party agents signed the result sheets at the various local government areas, Talatu alleged the “party agents that were brought”.

She also pointed out other party agents were driven away from the polling units.

  • We can’t return to Egypt again, Tinubu tells PDP

…. says Saraki sold APC mandate for pot of pottage

Former Lagos state governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that Nigerians must not allow the nation to return to part of destruction and retrogression which the People Democratic Party (PDP) led government subjected it to for 16 years but aim to move forward in building a nation that every citizen will be proud of.

Tinubu who spoke at a National, consultative forum organised by the National Committee of Buhari Support Groups in Abuja accused the Atiku Campaign Organisation and the People Democratic Party of trying to blackmail the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Police with the accusation of plots to rig the 2019 elections because “they knew that they will not win”.

Read Also:2019 poll: Why Buhari must continue, by Tinubu

He also accused Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki of using the mandate of the APC to negotiate and give lifeline to the opposition, saying “he left the PDP, joined us, got elected, got our mandate, our majority and sold it for a pot of pottage. God is honest, Saraki is not”.

The former Lagos state governor also recalled how the rigging machineries of the PDP almost denied him his re-election in 2003 when INEC published what he described as fake results of the governorship election in Lagos state on its website, saying it took the then Resident Electoral Commissioner’s courage to insist that what was published was not the real results for his election to be validated.

He said: “Come February, we will re-elect Buhari. It is not easy to put together a National Committee, but we are in the same family. As free minded people, you are all free to be doing other things this morning, but you are here because you have the vision and the determination that Nigeria must continue the foundation and the progress of the future.

“Working together to re-elect Buhari is a task that must be achieved. Why are they complaining? Buhari is too busy to exchange words with them because he is building foundation of a prosperous Nigeria that will magnify the economy and provide employment for everyone regardless of the status in the society.

“A fervent man like him will not have time for the nonsense being thrown at him. I give you one message for them and there will be many such messages. Their candidate who is supposed to beat Buhari has been in our party and many other parties. He has more party members to build a house.

“All you have to do is to go out there and tell him that a house built on cards will be collapsed with a single stroke of broom. He said they are reformed, but reformed what? Reformed PDP. No. Tell them as you go out that we accept the admission of guilty that they were vagabond before and now being reformed.

“But they have not served enough probation. You can only be reformed if you are an ex-convict, a drug addict or a political prostitute. It is because Buhari has not temperament and no tolerance for corruption, he is vigorously ridding the nation of blemish and looting, a bad reputation.

“I can see them celebrating the visa. What a shame? Yet you want to lead this country with the most vibrant economy in Africa? Why should we allow them?

They ran this country from 1999 till 2015. They were planning for 60 years of doing nothing, lack of direction and concern for the citizens.

“Are we still in this nation where visionary leadership is required? If yes, then they are not competent and not qualified to be leading Nigeria again and say they want to come back to government. If they left our schools in such dilapidated condition, left out hospitals without Medicare, they don’t deserve to come back.

“They say we should not talk about their past anymore because they are ashamed of it, but we cannot go without talking about it because a nation has no history if there are no reference. If you give me an application for Employment which is the application of Atiku Abubakar, I must look at what you have done before, you experience.

“We have to look at Halliburton and why they left Nigeria. Go and ask those questions. They spent 16 billion dollars of NEPA money and what they give us is darkness and when they knew that we were kicking them out, they shared the company through irregularities called privatization which I called personalization of the wealth of Nigeria.

“We won’t allow that to happen again and I will recommend that we Campaign on that. We should find a way to technically dissolve those companies they shared among themselves. There is no way you can industrialize a nation without providing electricity.

“So many industries in Kaduna, Ikeja and other parts of the country. What were they doing for 16 years? That is why we believe that President Buhari is the best person to lead us and got him elected in 2015.

“They said he will die, but he did not die and is back hale and healthy and when they saw seriousness on his part, they now said he was cloned. That is because they know so much about forgery. I am glad he told them he is real. They exist to lie.

“Take their new found Jehovah Witness, former President Obasanjo. After they disgraced the office of the President, fighting in public and abusing each other, telling us how they stole money and dancing naked in the market square, Obasanjo said he has spoken to God never to allow Atiku to become President.

“Which God is he now talking to, to say Atiku should be President? I believe he is not telling the truth and not to the God we know. He is just talking to himself.

We have sacrificed too much under the PDP and we cannot go back.

“People must ask you why you belong to this support group. Tell them that you are members of a very committed rescue mission that started in 2015. I remember how things were. So, remind them of what happened because they can’t shut us up.

“They had the best opportunity for prosperity, but they are now complaining. They were there for 16 years and never added one barrel capacity to the refineries in Nigeria. They didn’t even pay counterpart funding for our rail, electricity and we cannot industrialist a nation without the power source.

“I stand before you as a very proud individual. When I introduced Independent power generation to fire the industries at Ikeja industrial estate, they killed it because there was bribe under the table.

“Imagine what Buhari is doing today in rail and in feeding our children which creates opportunity for the farmers, it creates small scale business for those cooking the food and a lot of people involved are doing better and we are battling poverty with the best weapon which is education.

“They are busy changing parties and that is why they are confused. Atiku is now PDP Aladdin. He is going to create 14 million jobs and I say how? They will turn Atlantic into fuel to crash the prices without the refineries working and the population is expanding and people must move around. He just talks of crashing the prices of fuel. They are lying again because a leopard cannot change its skin.

“They had 16 billion of unprecedented resources and yet, they didn’t bring power to Nigeria. They invested that money in their personal industries. They bought turbines from General Electric and did it add one pipe line to bring gas to the plant.

“They can say anything now about Buhari. I agree with Okonjo Iweala that it is difficult to fight corruption. The agents of destruction are there fighting us, but we will win with strong determination.

“Don’t let them sweep things under the carpet that when we came in as a government, before then they had too much resources in their hands, but Buhari funded states to pay salaries. In that period, 27 states were unable to pay salaries as at May 2015. The states and local economy would have collapsed long time ago.

“If PDP members truly love this country, those should humbly step aside and allow Buhari continue with the work of addressing the ills in our nation. However, since they seem to obstruct and remain focus as applicants, we say no job for them.

“No matter what they say, don’t listen to them, don’t kind them. What they want is to continue to distract with the talk of rigging because they know that they are losing. They want to blackmail INEC and the police. I remember my own election for my second term.

“On the website of INEC, they announced a funny result, but a woman of great character who was the State Resident Electoral Commissioner said no, the result she got from the field are the valid results and not the fake ones published and upheld our election. They know they cannot win.

“That is why all the noise from either Saraki, a man who used our mandate to negotiate and give lifeline to the opposition. Leadership is about character. How can he now ask us to vote for PDP. he left the PDP, joined us, got elected, got our mandate, our majority and sold it for a lot of portage. God is honest, Saraki is not.

“They talk about farmers and herders clashes. If they are honest, they should know that it also happened during their time, but they have no way of thinking; they have no capacity to convert tragedy into economic prosperity. We have the capacity in this country to do irrigation and utilize our water resources, to create pastures and ranches so that we can convert those miseries, that tragedy to opportunity for our people. Livestock is economy.

“It is not about intellectual talent alone. There are so many unrewarded talents across the world. It is about character, determination, the love of a country and our commitment to nation building. That is what PDP is opposed to and APC is determined to continue as a progressive entity and the man to lead the nation on that part is President Buhari. Tell Nigerians that after Moses crossed the Red Sea, he is not going to return to Egypt.”

According to him, “It’s not just to join the party but remain committed to its  course. You have come to join us to enjoy the dividends of democracy and that is what you will get.
“You are not going to be treated as a new comer or an outside, our party is not like the one (PDP) where monkey dey work bamboo they chop.
“Just as you have come to join us, we will also be committed to your course, and together, we will sail and produce sometime great.”
  • ‘Obi’s choice as VP a great honour to Ekwueme’

The People Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra chapter has described the choice of Chief Peter Obi as the running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as a great honour to one of its founding father, late Dr Alex Ekwueme.

Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, Chairman of PDP in Anambra said this while reacting to the announcement of Obi as Atiku’s running mate in an interview in Awka.

Nwobu said the nomination was a ’round peg in a round hole’ as Obi possessed all the requisite quality to occupy the position having been a successful governor and a seasoned technocrat.

He said the state chapter was happy that the PDP hearkened to its call that Anambra be given the slot as it had plethora of individuals who could partner with any president to chart a new course for Nigeria.

“It is a welcome development, the choice of Obi is that of a round peg in a round hole, a governor he set Anambra on a pedestal for economic growth and left huge dune of money for future generation.

“During the campaigns, we told the aspirants that they should consider Anambra strongly for the slot of Vice President as a sign of appreciation to Late Dr Ekwueme who for his great work as a founding father of PDP.

  • PDP: Electing Credible leaders, key to party’s future- Said

PDP: Electing Credible leaders, key to party’s future- Said

Delegates to the Dec. 9 national convention of the People Democratic Party (PDP) have been urged to use the opportunity to “vote for the party’s and nation’s future”.

Chairman of the party in Kebbi State, Mallam Haruna Said, made the call on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi when he received Chief Raymond Dokpesi, an aspirant for national chairmanship of the party, who was on a campaign tour to the state.

He said that electing credible leaders at the convention was key to the future of the party.

“We have a responsibility that rests squarely on our shoulders, to say that we can’t be carried away by monetary inducement.

“We should not be quickly carried away to believe that someone is coming to impose consensus candidate on us.

“We here will do justice to the future of PDP. We must have serious thought over the future of the PDP and Nigeria,” he said.

The chairman assured that the calibre of people that Kebbi had produced as delegates to the convention would not in any way be influenced in taking decision that would determine the future of PDP and country.

He described Dokpesi as active politician, who had carved a niche for himself in politics and had impacted greatly in changing the course of political history in Nigeria.

He assured Dokpesi of the support of members of the party in the state, saying “you have taken significant percentage of what it required to get support.”

Earlier, Dokpesi had told the party chairman and members that PDP would regain power in 2019 through its connection with citizens and electorate at the grassroots.

He said that power “comes from God which He gives through the people and He has decided that PDP must come to power in 2019’’.

He said that if members of the party agreed to work together, they would win back power in states, including Kebbi and the North-Central.

“Just like in Kebbi State, the battle to rescue power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not going to be easy.

“It is not going to be easy because as at today, they have the Police, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all organs required to rig elections.

“In our opposition, we are going to win elections, not by the power of INEC, power of police or all the instruments they have in their hands.

“We shall win the power because we shall relate to the ordinary citizens on the streets,” Dokpesi said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dokpesi also visited Sokoto and Kastina to solicit vote of delegates to the convention.

“Oseloka is my brother and I want him to win. If he wins, he must make Ogbaru a better place,” he said.

  • Maina: Buhari must act fast to save integrity, says Ijaw chief

Maina: Buhari must act fast to save integrity, says Ijaw chief

An Ijaw Chief and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Wilfred Ogbotobo, Friday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be swift and decisive in dealing with the controversies surrounding the botched reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina.

Ogbotobo said the President should unravel the circumstances that facilitated the entry of Maina into Nigeria, his subsequent reinstatement and promotion in the federal civil service, to avert a monumental damage to his name, integrity and administration.

The Ijaw chief, who is a staunch loyalist of Buhari, insisted that the way and manner the President would handle the issue would determine the fate of his teeming followers and supporters.

“The circumstances of the Maina issue are totally embarrassing, unacceptable and shameful; to say the least, considering that this is someone that was condemned and dismissed by corruption itself, during its reign in the People Democratic Party (PDP) years.

“If such an abominable rejection could be admissible in this administration then what we are saying in effect is, under an APC administration condemned beings from the pit of hell can freely sneak into paradise which is corruption at its worst,” he said.

Ogbotobo, the Convener of the South-South Legacy Forum (SSLF), said the issue was an acid test to the strength of the President’s commitment to the anti-corruption war which is the signature agenda of his administration.

He said: “The president should be constant with the fact that it took him four consecutive attempts to secure this special grace and, by this unique preparatory experience, we believe that he has a divine mission to set a new template for a stronger, more united and prosperous Nigeria.

“This clearly imposes a great responsibility on Mr President to pursue his agenda, especially the anti-corruption war, with utmost diligence and commitment, moreso, as this is the first national attempt at confronting corruption in the country.

“President Buhari should therefore take necessary steps to unmask all the dealings and actions involving the Maina-gate in the light of the gravity of the matter and its damage potentials with implications for the survival of this administration”.

The chief noted that all the persons directly or remotely connected with the Maina’s filth should be shown the way out of the current administration without fear or favour.

“It is high time the president rejigged his cabinet and breathed life back into the government, as the anti-corruption war itself has lost considerable steam and focus, lately.

“President Buhari should always bear in mind that his stellar integrity and outstanding reputation draw strength from the love and trust of the Nigerian masses that are ready to walk the difficult path under his leadership, to attain Nigeria’s greatness and prosperity.

“The president must therefore put in place the necessary precautionary mechanisms to prevent any ring of darkness from crystalizing to create a gulf between his integrity and the confidence of the masses. This would be disastrous,” he said.
