  • Ayade in comfortable lead in Cross River

Cross River State governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof Ben Ayade, was in a comfortable lead after the collation of results of 14 out of 18 local government areas of the state.

In the results submitted by the various returning officers at the state collation centre at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Calabar, Ayade scored 268, 891 while the All Progressives Congress came second with got 89, 976.
The APC in the state has the senator representing the Central Senatorial District, John Owan-Enoh and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Usani, laying claim to the governorship ticket of the party.

  • PDP kicks as INEC suspends Rivers elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked against the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspending the Governorship and Assembly elections in Rivers State.

Rather, the PDP has called on the electoral body to announce the results of the polls, which it said had already been won and lost.

The main opposition party described the suspension of the elections as manipulative schemes by the INEC and the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

A statement on Sunday by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, flayed the suspension order by INEC, saying the results of the elections had already been collated.

The statement said: “The PDP alerts that this is a premeditated plan by the APC-led Federal Government to use the instrument of INEC and security agencies to truncate the wishes of the Rivers people as already delivered at the polling units.

“Our party contends that elections have been concluded in Rivers state; results of the Governorship and House of Assembly polls have been declared at the various polling units, wards and local government collation centres and all returning officers and political parties in the ballot conclusively have the figures.

“It is therefore directly incumbent on INEC to declare the final results instead of deliberately creating openings for the subversion of the final process; a development, which exposes the Commission’s complicity with the Buhari Presidency and the APC to enmesh the election into unnecessary crisis.

“Our party cautions INEC to note that a lot of innocent Nigerians have already been killed by the APC in its desperation to forcefully take over Rivers state.

“The commission should therefore save the state from more bloodletting by immediately declaring the results.

“Furthermore, the PDP calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to reflect on the bloodlettings that have characterized this election, which many Nigerians believe, would have been averted if he had signed the Amendment to the Electoral Act.

“Mr. President should immediately call the security agencies (who have been annexed as departments of the APC) to end their siege to our electoral process. Any further delay is a recipe for escalation of crisis in our nation”.

  • PDP alleges fraud as El-Rufai leads in Kaduna

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna state has alleged fraud and irregularities as Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leads from the results released so far in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

Results from 11 local government areas so far collated at the INEC headquarters in Kaduna indicate El-Rufai has won in seven local government areas of Makarfi, Soba, Kudan, Ikara, Kauru, Kubau and Giwa.

Meanwhile, the opposition candidate, Hon. Isa Ashiru has won in four local government areas of, Kachia, Kaura, Jaba and Kajuru.

However, PDP said it would not accept the declaration due to what it referred to as doctored results and result- writing by government officials.

Chairman of the party, Hon. Felix Hassan Hyet, alleged the election in Kaduna state was marred by intimidation by security agencies, vote buying, ballot box snatching, ballot box stuffing and laying siege on Kagarko and Sanga local government area by security agencies to favour the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists in Kaduna on Sunday, Hyet said: “I want to commend the voters for conducting themselves in civil manner despite unnecessary interference by security agencies.

“There was public vote buying in Zaria local government by government officials, snatching of ballot boxes in Chikun local government area.

“The worst case was in Birnin Gwari where there was no voting. Ballot boxes were snatched and returned the next day stuffed with results.

“Kagarko and Sanga local government areas are currently under siege by security agencies in an effort to change the results in favour of the ruling party.

“Results were forcibly changed in Rigasa, Igabi local government area. The EO (Electoral Officers) were summoned to government house to present the results to the Governor for him to see and approve before authorising it. We have our results with our agents.

“Based on all these irregularities, we would not accept any doctored results announced by INEC because we have the original results from our agents on ground.

“INEC should be the umpire that everybody expects them to be. The will of the people have been pushed to the background by the activities of security agencies.

Commenting on the apathy witnessed, the former aviation minister said it was due to what happened during the presidential and National Assembly elections.

“There was deployment of military and security personnel in a civil situation to intimidate and harass the people.”

Meanwhile, collation of results has been adjourned to 8:00pm to allow the remaining 12 local governments areas arrive.

The results by local governments are as follow:

  • Adamawa: PDP leads after result from eight LGAs

Hon. Umaru Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a slight lead over his major challenger in the Adamawa State governorship election, incumbent Governor Umaru Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC), when result from the eight local government area to be announced on Sunday came to light.

Bindow had led the votes chart up to the 7th LGA, Song, but Fintiri lept over Bindow with the votes from Michika where he scored 24,504 votes against Bindow’s 13,224.

Overall, however, Fintiri had only a slight lead with a total of 152,897 votes from the eight LGAs announced thus far, while Bindow had 150,431 votes.

The eight LGAs from where the results had thus come by some minutes to 2pm when collation was paused for a lunch break Sunday, were Shelleng, Yola South, Gurei, and  Mubi North where Bindow had winning votes, as well as Mayo-Belwa, Yola North, Song and Michika where Fintiri has larger numbers of votes.

The results from the eight LGAs have largely conformed to type in terms of voting patterns for the big two political parties, except that the APC won Yola North in the presidential election of February 23 as against the reality with this governorship election.

The result thus far, with 13 more LGAs to go, also confirms predictions that the governorship election in Adamawa State would be a close race between the APC and the PDP.
