Enugu traders seek Mbah’s intervention over alleged relocation order

Traders at the popular GSM Village Market, Enugu have called on Governor Peter Mbah to intervene and stop the alleged plot by some individuals using the name of the state government to forcefully relocate them into a private mall in the state capital.

The traders also rejected the motion reportedly passed by the Enugu State House of Assembly, which urged the state government to relocate them to the Trade Fair Shopping Complex, Gulf Estate GRA, Enugu.

The traders insisted that the new location is a private venture, which has nothing to do with the government.

Some of the traders, who spoke to newsmen in Enugu weekend expressed shock that the state house of assembly acceded to the deceit by some real estate individuals to pass a motion to relocate them to a private complex.

They said the owners of the complex packaged it as though the government was the one proposing the relocation in order to attract heavy patronage to their real estate business from the members of the public.

One of the traders at the GSM Village, Enugu, Martin Uchenna Agbo, said, “We recently got information that the House of assembly has passed a motion urging the state government to relocate us to a private property somewhere at Gulf Estate, GRA, Enugu.

“The assembly motion came to us as a surprise because they made it look as if the state governor is giving us a new allocation for us to relocate.

“We’re aware that if the state government wants to embark on such ventures, they will first earmark a place, and inform the concerned traders about it, and then throw the allocation open for all at a very affordable price. The government will equally give you a design of what to build so that there won’t be indiscriminate building. That’s the procedure we are aware of.

“But what we noticed is that some individuals want to establish a phone complex inside that place. But it is a private enterprise. It is not a state government project. The government has not allocated anywhere to us.

Mbah mourns Igbo music icon Ejeagha

Enugu Governor Peter Mbah has expressed deep grief over the death of music icon ‘Gentleman’ Mike Ejeagha, saying the legend had created a void that would be too difficult to fill.

Mbah described Ejeagha as an unassuming and easygoing personality, whose fanbase spread across international boundaries.

News of the passing on of the ‘Gwo gwo gwo ngwo’ crooner at age 95 filtered into public space Friday evening.

Reacting to the sad development, the governor, who had celebrated the folklorist during his lifetime by reconstructing the popular Obinagu Road and the adjoining Chief Mike Ejeagha Crescent leading directly to his residence in Abakpa Nike, Enugu, a long wish of the icon left unfulfilled by successive administrations in the state, and by renaming Obinagu Road as Chief Mike Ejeagha Road in his honour, assured that his government would further immortalise the legend in death.

Taking to his verified social media handles, @PNMbah, the Governor paid a tribute to the Enugu-born musician

“I’m profoundly saddened by the death of music icon, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha.

“Mike Ejeagha was a legend, a cultural ambassador and a revered son of Enugu State.

“He was one of the finest musicians of his generation with an easygoing personality and humility that belied his towering celebrity status.

“I will always cherish fond memories of the time spent in his company – the warmth and wisdom he radiated; the joy he found in the ordinary.

“This is a loss not only for his immediate family; it’s a big loss for Enugu State, the entire music community, and the country as well.

“Ejeagha’s immense talent and genius lay in how he took simple indigenous folktales and turned them into unforgettable songs that resonate across cultures.

“On behalf of the Enugu State government, I offer heartfelt condolences to the Ejeagha family, and assure them of our support.

“As a government, we would ensure that his memory is duly immortalized.

“Above all, I pray that his family experiences the comforting grace of God’s love, and the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Enugu APC faults Arthur Eze over claims on Tinubu’s endorsement of Mbah

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has described as misleading and completely baseless the recent statement by Anambra-born businessman Prince Arthur Eze that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office.

Eze, during the second anniversary of Governor Mbah in Enugu on May 29, said that President Tinubu was happy with the Governor’s performances in Enugu and endorsed him for a second term.

But, in a strong rebuttal at the weekend by the publicity secretary of the party in Enugu State, Mr Titus Ezeagu, the APC dismissed Eze’s claims as “personal opinion driven by self interest rather than political reality.

“Prince Arthur Eze is not a member of the APC. He is neither a spokesperson for President Tinubu nor has he ever played any official role in the President’s campaign or administration,” the statement reads.

The party reiterated that Arthur Eze has no mandate whatsoever to speak on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing that Arthur Eze is not a member of the APC.

“Let it be made clear: the president has not made any statement; public or private, endorsing any governor

in any state for a second term, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State,” it continued.

The APC further advised individuals like Arthur Eze to desist from making pronouncements that could undermine the democratic and electoral process in Enugu State and the country in general.

“We urge Prince Eze to concentrate on his business ventures and allow the democratic process to unfold in accordance with the constitution without resort to spreading cheap propaganda which will put Mr President in bad light nationally and internationally.

“His attempt to prop up Governor Mbah’s anti-people governance using the name of President Tinubu is not only false but a manifest move to once more undermine the democratic process in Enugu and Nigeria in general,” it said.

The party concluded by reaffirming its commitment to building a strong political alternative for the people of Enugu State, emphasizing that endorsement for any second term would come through the electoral process.

“We at APC Enugu State under the able leadership of the high performing Chief Uche Geoffrey Nwakaibie, the Hon Minister of Innovation Science and Technology and leader APC Enugu state shall continue to stand firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, and we remain focused in giving Enugu State voters a credible alternative to the current PDP-led mal-administration come 2027,” it concluded.

The third one will be on the ground by the end of this month. We are hoping to start the commercial operations before the second year anniversary of this administration.

“You have also seen buses for the mass transit programme across the state. Fifty of them are already parked at Okpara Square and an additional 50 will be joining that fleet in the next few weeks. The 100 of them will be going into commercial operations before the end of this month, which is the second year anniversary.

“Also, the bus terminals, two at Holy Ghost, one each at Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka, will also be commissioned and go into commercial operations before May 29.”

The commissioner said the Mbah administration was planning to bring into the state electric and CNG automotive manufacturing plant as well as launch in the next 150 days the Enugu Smart Transport Programme, with the injection of over 2,000 electric vehicles.

Dame Madueke said funds would be invested in the tourism industry in phases.

“For the first phase, we are having Awhum Waterfall and Nsude Pyramid, where we are going to have the first canopy walkway in the Southeast. It measures about 600 metres, which will actually be the longest in Nigeria.

“We also have Ngwo Pine Forest where we are having the first zipline in Nigeria. The zipline will measure about 300 metres. In the same Ngwo, we will have a big rotunda and a smaller rotunda.

“We have the Cross of Hope to be located at Okpatu. The Cross of Hope will be sitting 580 metres above sea level and the cross itself will measure about 50 metres, making it a total of about 630 metres above sea level. The cross will have about 15 floors with a lift.

“At Awhum Waterfalls, we are going to have another canopy walkway and a boardwalk to preserve the ecosystem.

“We equally have the Akwuke/Atakkwu Waterpark and Ovu Lake Golf and Resort at Akpawfu,” she said.
