    The Chief Executive Officer, Phase 3 Telecoms, Mr Stanley Jegede has won this year’s edition of the “Africa Telecom Entrepreneur of the Year” award n Ghana.

    The award was organised by a group, the Africa Information Technology and Telecom Awards (AITTA) in Accra, Ghana.

    In a statement, the firm said the honour is coming in the heels of the firm’s emergence as Best Fibre Optic Company of the year at the Nigeria Communications Week Beacon of ICT Awards in Lagos.

    Represented on the occasion by the firm’s General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Akeem Adeshina, the CEO said the award is a testimony to the outstanding commitment of the team of its young women and men that work diligently daily to deliver the Phase3 mandate to consistently provide excellent services to connect people and businesses for the socio-economic development of Africa.

    In a telephone interview, Jegede, who is currently on tour of project sites across the country, said: “The continuous painstaking effort and hard work put into expanding West Africa’s largest and indigenous telecom infrastructure network to enhance the sub-region’s options for route diversity, local/international redundancy and to remove heavy reliance on traditional connectivity;  is made all the more worthwhile by the AITTA acknowledgement and recognition. It could not have come at any better time than now. It is the entire Phase3 family.”

    He said the focus of the firm has always been to proffer solutions on connectivity and access that open limitless opportunities for African businesses to thrive and compete on the global stage. He added that as the demand for connectivity and network services continues to rise, Phase3 will not relent on its commitment to maintaining a secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure.

    Phase3 Telecom has said it will deepen investment on infrastructure to extend its reach, increase efficiency, scale up resilience and adaptability for efficient network services and offer solutions that will amplify the operations of its clients across the West African sub-region.

    The firm which is West Africa’s largest independent fibre optic infrastructure and telecommunications services provider continues to reinstate its dedication to maximising the sub-region’s growth potential within the sector.

    Being an indigenous firm, Phase 3 has been at the forefront of increasing backbone infrastructure that will boost digital market viability and minimise the challenges of accessibility and reliability across sectors and layered connectivity needs.

    Its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Stanley Jegede, said the firm will continue invest on robust network to enable the firm extend its reach as the IT world migrates to the new era of internet of things (IoT).

    Jegede added that the focus of Phase3 in the coming months; is not just to drive a network infrastructure that connects people but to be the frontrunner in scaling a network that helps grow economies and effectively support technological innovations that expand the world and make it better in all sectors.

    This is essential to accelerating the social development, growth in gross domestic product (GDP) and productivity the sub-region has been clamoring for.

    The firm which is set to mark its 12th year anniversary next month, said  because of its capacity to deliver homegrown solutions deliver significant long term value and as part of its wider West Africa roll out plan to deliver regional connectivity through a single network, it has commenced the deployment of a 228 km long aerial fiber optic infrastructure from Kano to Gazaoua in the Republic of Niger, a landlocked country that borders six other countries of Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Libya and Mali.

    The project is under the Niger-Nigeria fiber-optic cable project being facilitated by the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) through the extension of the Backbone Transmission Infrastructure Programme (BTRAIN) programme.

He stated that the company’s unique approach to amplifying regional connectivity puts the customer’s need first thus gaining a strong market niche with discerning corporate customers.

    The organisers believe that Phase3 has demonstrated time and again that it is committed to enhancing the availability of fast and reliable internet to the unserved and underserved parts of the West Africa Sub-region through investment in infrastructure and human capital. More so; the company’s recent opinion pieces in influential national dailies prove that its strategic insight and blueprint for Africa’s telecommunications industry is achievable, sustainable and key to eradicating the current digital divide.

     

  • Phase3 efforts in line with ITU’s, says Capital Finance Int

    The efforts of Phase 3 Telecoms, the largest independent aerial optic fibre infrastructure and telecoms services provider, are in line with the Connect Africa initiative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), United Kingdom (UK)-based resource group, Capital Finance International (CfI.co), has said.

    It said connecting the sub-region with efficient and reliable broadband will grow the economy of the sub-region.

    The group which conferred the award of Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Broadband Services in West Africa, 2014, on Phase 3 Telecoms, said the firm’s activities at simplifying connectivity of businesses in the sub-region is worthy of commendation.

    In the citation read during the award, the CFI.co Judging Panel said: “Phase3 Telecom’s efforts represent a highly significant contribution to the Connect Africa initiatives of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The company is helping to create the appropriate infrastructure to improve and develop broadband services along the necessary; bringing broadband services to remote areas of the country. Phase3 has displayed an incredible level of dedication to the task in hand, superb innovation from talented and well-motivated team and an eagerness to deliver to all West Africans the tools they need for further and sustainable economic progress.”

    Its Chief Executive Officer – Stanley Jegede who spoke to reporters in Abuja on the awards, said: “We are incredibly honoured by the outpouring of recognition and support from the region and international community for our modest efforts to ensure the sustainable development of Africa through the provision of the most reliable IP and telecommunications services.

    According to him, the honour is a call to do more to ensure that connectivity is achieved not only in Nigeria but across the West African sub-region.

    He said expressed appreciation to the group for the recognition, arguing that it is coinciding with auspicious anniversary of the firm’s 11th year of diligent services to the sub-region.

    “Certainly, there can be no doubting the importance of efficient, speedy delivery of trustworthy and affordable broadband services to the support and push for the development of Africa. Phase3 is irrevocably committed to making this happen. We have just concluded our network upgrade to offer seamless communications solutions that allow our all over West Africa to interconnect with their operations in multiple locations over a dedicated link,” he said.

  • ‘Phase3 MPLS will boost data sharing’

    WEST Africa’s largest independent fibre optic infrastructure provider, Phase3, has said the addition of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) to its  network will enable its numerous clients share large amounts of data from various locations.

    It also said the expansion could deliver speeds of 100 megabits per second (mbps) and above and supplements the firm’s infrastructure and network solutions.

    MPLS is a technology for transporting information data/voice/video between two or more locations. It enables customers with offices in various locations to lease virtual private networks (VPNs) that are effected on routers which sit on the networks of communications providers.

    Its Chief Executive Officer, Stanley Jegede, said: “The addition of the MPLS solution further supplements our rapidly evolving network and will further facilitate the provision of affordable and reliable broadband connectivity and telecoms services for our increasing client base in the health, education, oil and gas, financial and public sectors across the continent.

    “The possibilities and benefits of businesses being connected to a viable network that enable quick and secure data sharing across diverse or remote locations is exponential.  We’re delivering advanced services that allow our clients to do more, faster and more efficiently, creating a new wave of innovation.     While digitising information in electronic databases for easy sharing within or across networks is not a recent phenomenon, its application in West Africa has been limited. But Phase3 has established a strong presence across West Africa.

    This will broaden access to the firm’s MPLS network, linking offices and data centres in the subregion, and to other parts of the world.

    Phase3 urges gender equality for ICT development

    Phase3 Telecom has said giving equal opportunities to both male and female children in the information technology (IT) and information communications technology (ICT) sector will accelerate economic prosperity for the country.

    It added that developing technology skills for women and harnessing the skills are critical factors to achieving rapid national development.

    Its Chief Executive Officer, Stamley Jegede, who justified the firm’s support for this year’s edition of the International Girls in ICT Day Celebration, in Lagos, explained that the era in which professions in the IT/ICT sector were largely dominated by the male gender is coming to an end.

    He added that it is exciting the progress female gender in the world is making in tapping into the huge potentials and possibilities of the IT professional fields based on the realisation that very few jobs exist for men that are not also open to woman.

    Jegede expressed optimism that Nigeria and indeed, the West African sub-region will reap bountifully if more institutions and agencies advocate ICT skills for women.

    He said West African women are under-represented across boards in ICT – from education and training programmes right through to high level careers in the sector whether in academia or industry.

    He said: “We know that one of the key elements of addressing poverty is the empowerment of women and there is no better way of doing that today than giving women ICT empowerment. There are many women with amazing talent and this has to be brought to aid our social and economic development.”

    He added that building a crop of young female Nigerians to actively participate and compete in the evolving as well as innovative technological space globally is the basis for Phase3 Telecom’s commitment to always support the International Girls in ICT day celebration.

    The International Girls in ICT Day is an initiative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU)-member state designed to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and women to consider careers in the growing field of ICTs.
